The Best Italian Restaurants and Food Carts in Portland | Eater Portland

"Gino’s is some Old Portland realness. This Sellwood restaurant, almost always packed with locals, delivers heaping piles of pasta and other red sauce standards to tables in its dining room and wood-lined bar. Grandma Jean’s, the restaurant’s version of a Sunday gravy, is absolutely teeming with pork ribs, stewed beef, and pepperoni, tossed with penne. Zesty puttanesca and penne alla vodka bring a spicy zing to the selection. And outside the world of pasta, seafood-packed cioppino is a favorite among the restaurant’s decades-loyal regulars." - Eater Staff

Where to Eat and Drink in Sellwood-Moreland | Eater Portland

"A longstanding member of Sellwood’s dining scene, Gino’s is home to classic Italian American dining. The homey bistro serves pasta dishes, bone-in pork chops, and bowls of mussels to the tables, booths, and oak bar that fill the space. While its cuisine is time-tested and pleasing, its wine menu may be the star, as Gino’s quietly has one of the most robust lists of Italian wines in the city." - Alex Frane

Where to Find the Best Burrata Dishes in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Another Sellwood institution, this old school Italian restaurant serves its burrata on a rustic, antipasti-style plate, with a pile of cured meat, zucchini pickles, and baguette for smearing. It makes a great appetizer before a hearty bowl of cioppino or the famous Grandma Jean’s pasta — the restaurant’s take on a Sunday sauce." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Best chowder and oysters I had on the Oregon coast. I ate so much seafood on my trip but the clam chowder and oysters I had at Gino’s were the best I had. The chowder had so many clams and they were really big, it was also more creamy than a lot of the other chowder I tried during my trip. The fries were also soooo good, really unique and tasty without being too greasy or fried. I really didn’t like the coleslaw which had a molasses taste, I usually a creamy or vinegar based slaw. Beers were also great and the atmosphere was fun. Go for the oysters and chowder!

Google
Busy and packed in this restaurant. It has a big dining capacity with both indoor & outdoor options. On a Tuesday night, we still got on the wait list for 15 mins. But it was worth it as the food was delicious. The restaurant used to be an old travern in town and could use a remodel. But business is too good to be shut down.

I really loved Gino's. It reminded me of the places I used to go to in Little Italy in Chicago. The service was great. They were always around, but not in your face. The interior felt very comforting, like your friend's grandma's house! The mussels were good, as was the Ceasar salad, but the meatballs were amazing. I felt like I was a kid again. The pesto ravioli was not bad. Grandma Jeans pasta dish again reminded me of a friend's house on Sunday or some small Italian place with a pot just cooking away all day. Pure comfort food. The Tiramisu was great, but the Panna Cotta was one of the best desserts I've had this year. Might be one of the best dishes I've had this year... Tiramisu is one of my favorite desserts, but their Panna Cotta almost made me forget it existed! And the Tiramisu is really good! Oh and the house wine options were delicious!

Google
Seriously amazing service and the food quality and portion size was spot on Italiano. We had the Italian sandwich for lunch and it was so big and packed full of flavor. Layers of protein with sauces and the bread is to die for. Phoebe helped us and did a great job. She is very personable and a great server! Food was brought out quickly and looked like it was magazine ready.

Google
Gosh, what an incredible treat to have discovered this place! Driven past a million times but never stopped. The food was out of this world, super affordable, and huge portions. We were sat at 8:30 and it seemed our servers were more focused on side work than serving our table. Took like 20 minutes after we were served our food for our server to come back and check on us. We would have ordered more, but it took so long we decided to just get a box and leave. But still a 4/5

Great garlicky Caesar salad!!!!!!!!!! served up by a great server in an interesting local venue. This is the 1st time back at Ginos in at least 20 years ( lunch now available 7 days /week.--coming from Vancouver, lunch is my best option here👍👍👍 ) . My memories of the Caesar salad at Ginos was that the Caesar was one of the best ever. ...........I was not disappointed!!!!! Gino's Caesar salad is definitely one of the best ever. Fresh crisp salad mixed with a great generous GARLICKY Caesar dressing , excellent croutons and a generous sprinkling cheese all well mixed and served pleasingly cold. The Italian sandwich was just OK with a too - bready roll and a funky tasting mayo spread that definitely downgraded this sandwich . Service was engaging , efficient and friendly. The vibe at Ginos is interesting in a good way . Sitting outside along the wall was comfortably shady on this hottest day of the year so far. The real treat would be to sit inside , to be able peruse and gawk the interesting wall decorations and furnishings throughout Gino's interior seating area.. Prices reasonable. Streetside parking readily available. Handicap doable and recommended. Final take----- Recommended for the rocking Caesar salad and the excellent service.

Google
Amazing food, busy Friday night, and we couldn't have been happier. 8pm reservations were seated right on time. Everything we ordered was amazing, but the pork ragu was the clear winner. I can't recommend this more highly. I'd say I'll be back, but there are too many good places to try here in town... Actually. I suppose if someone was visiting and demanded a sure thing for Italian then I probably would.

Google
Great food and exceptional service with a fun italian american atmosphere. You are getting your money's worth here so how about you take your family out to a great time at Gino's. By the way, if someone close to you cuts you out of their lives because of any political or social reason, then they aren't worth your time. Don't waste your energy with people who'll throw you away over politics because that shit is ever- changing. Don't stand for anyone's shallow, self-rightous bullshit and take care of those who'll love you no matter what. Love them and have some Cannolis while you're at it.

Yelp
The vibes are IMMACULATE. What looks like a worn, pewter door at the corner of the block opens up into a rustic and quirky interior with quaint, tiled floors and captivating murals. If I came with no one else I would've been satisfied eating my meal and drinking in the sights of the restaurant. The food was fantastic. The "Cioppino" in particular was a warm, hearty noodle soup with plenty of seafood. Loved the inclusion of salmon in the mix. It was so savory that we used our bread to soak up every last drop. Would've licked the bowl clean if there had been anything left! Thankfully there were plenty of veggie options too. The veggie lasagna tasted incredibly fresh and zesty. We were fighting over the last few bites at our table. Given how busy it is on a weekday, how familiar the servers are with the customers, and how much the place bubbles with positive energy, it's clear that Gino's has been and will continue to be a hub for the Sellwood community for many years. Though it can feel a bit cramped when it's really busy, what kind of family affair isn't? Idk if everyone in Portland knows about it or not, but if not, it's one of our city's finest hidden gems.

Yelp
Simply phenomenal. We just moved back to the Hillsboro area after 17 years, and we have been looking for some great Italian food. After a couple of disappointing efforts in the area, I remembered Gino's from many years ago. It was my wife's BD and I wanted to be sure to treat her to a great meal. And that it was. Theresa had a Negroni to start off and I had the Maple Old Fashioned. They were so good. Then we had the baguette with many olives in an olive oil. Again, so good. She had the Mixed Greens Salad, and I had the classic Caesar Salad. Both were perfectly dressed. Theresa had the Puttanesca and I had Grandma Jean's. Incredible. We had leftovers after the meal, as the portions are generous. And of course, the wine list is huge. We had a great Borolo that accompanied all of the food perfectly. The setting was so special. I had logged it was Theresa's BD when I made the reservation, but nothing was done, which was the best for her. The server Josh was fine. He is low-key, but timing with the entire team was right on. Thank You Gino's for being as good as it was over 20 years ago.

Yelp
Oh man. I really hate writing this review but tonight was just so awful. I'm sad. We love Gino's, it's special place to take friends and family visiting from out of town or just our family when celebrating a birthday or special occasion. It's the first place we tried when we moved to sellwood 3 years ago, we had a preemie in the house so ordered a lot of takeout and Gino's on Christmas Eve (takeout) was a great tradition. Tonight we celebrated my daughter's friend visiting from Phoenix, we hadn't seen her in several years and Gino's being our go to I made a reservation for 6. We arrived and were seated at table, everything was as usual. Server arrived in a decent amount of time, nothing unusual then it went downhill fast. We ordered the mussels and the burrata as appetizer, every time we go this is what we get for apps. We dish up our mussels, I'm eating away and I scoop out a clam and with it was a massive clump of green/black sandy mud, I immediately spit it out and let me tell you it was awful. I look around and find another large clump of the green/black grit. I have never ever had anything like that happen ever ever ever when eating mussels. We flag our waiter down and he then proceeds to chastise me by saying "well it comes from the water, sometimes you get rocks. Why did you eat it?" Basically, I was the idiot who ate it. Silly me. I had to ask for a new napkin because mine was filled with green and black nasty that I spit out into it. We sit with our appetizer plates and platters for the whole time, me looking at the mussels who now have ruined my appetite. Oh and after my issue no one wanted to touch the mussels. Our food arrives and never was our other plates removed until I asked. Main course arrives and they were ok, some overly salty and the ravioli was very strong and overly herbaceous, just overpowering pesto. Seemed like they were very short staffed, hubby wanted pork chop and we were told would be an hour. The topper really was our waiter, I know he was trying and he had a bad foot but my god try a little bit to make your customers feel welcome or just something, anything. Green mud in a mussel is not ok and laughing it off made me feel dumb. In the end we spent $360 and just felt sad. I know things and circumstances happen but there is still a level of service that just wasn't there, I felt like the folks working cared about as much as a fast food worker and that's a dis at the fast food workers really. Gino's was truly a special place for us and I'm just so disappointed.

Yelp
Excellent service! Neat place with an incredible wine list! Had the steelhead and it was perfect, garlic mashed with it, the veggies meh I don't like hard carrots in my mix but whatever. Enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and was not rushed at all. Super appreciate the sever & the cozy corner we sat in! We did walk a few blocks parking challenge so be ready!

Yelp
This a longtime favorite of ours. We have been here many times. I really love the way it feels in there. This place has a cute, historic, and quirky feel to it with cool looking chakis around, low soft lighting and comfy booths. The food is delicious, and portions are gernerous. They make perfect cocktails and desserts. The service is always excellent. They have great clams, incredible ceasar salad, flavorful pastas and main dishes. We never want for a thing when we dine here since the service is always impeccable. Street parking is easy to find.

Yelp
Going to Gino's is a wonderful experience. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. I've tried several of their entrees and continue to be amazed by the quality of the ingrediants. I highly recommend checking this place out if you enjoy Italian food.

Yelp
Absolutely massive portions and great quality! Thankfully came here with an appetite because they bring it hard on portion size. Clams an an appetizer came quick and so many on the plate. The bread was fresh and the buttery garlic sauce it came to dip in was so good. We worked to get as much out of it, even after the clams were gone using the bread to dip in. We couldn't pass up trying the spaghetti & meatballs here. The meal size definitely worked for two people and thankfully that's how many we had in the party. Meatballs were the size of softballs and nicely flavored and savory. The sauce and noodles were also rich. Reccommend reservation on busy nights but absolutely the finest and best Italian spot in SE.

Erin D.

Yelp
This place made for an amazing date night! Great ambiance and the food was AMAZING! This place fills up early and fast. If you don't have a reservation, I recommend getting there early, putting your name in, and going across the street to the Portland Bottle Shop and having a glass of wine while you wait for your table.

Yelp
Was so looking forward to dinner at Gino's but unfortunately, our experience was pretty poor all-around. Our server was very impersonal, rushed and messed up our order. I know this happens but when our food was served one of our four guests received the wrong dish. Server admitted that she pushed the wrong button. Nearly 20 minutes later with the rest of us nearly finished, the correct dish was delivered. Again, this happens but no offer fix the situation (glass of wine, dessert...nothing). My steak ordered at medium was cooked well done and my wife who order pasta and marinara was still charged full price for spaghetti and meatballs (no exceptions). Positive note the desserts (tiramisu & olive oil cake) were good.

Yelp
For Apps: We started with the caesar salad (really yummy, you can tell it's homemade, get this!), then the steamed clams which came with rustic bread on the side for dipping. The clam sauce was tasty, had a TON of fresh garlic which I'm not complaining about (love garlic), but a little too salty for my liking. Typically when I get steam clams I drink all the juices/soup leftover but this one was too salty for me to do that. Other than that, really generous portions of clams, so still would recommend. For cocktails: husband ordered an old fashioned (but they put it in a glass with regular ice chunks you'd get in iced water, so it quickly watered down the drink......). I got a gin cocktail on their specials menu, it was really good! For main: we got the Paccheri (lots of fennel sausage, large pieces of pasta noodles, unique!) which we pretty good but reminded me of eating a sausage pizza, and also ordered a mushroom pasta with penne instead of spaghetti noodles (personal preference) which was absolutely delicious, would recommend!!! Both pastas came with their rustic bread which was nice! Overall, really pleasant experience, staff was attentive and friendly, the decor was cute and traditional Italian, you could tell this place has been here for a long time and folks love coming back here based on how full it was on a Monday night! Very unassuming from the outside, but definitely worth a try if you're craving pasta in the Sellwood area. 8/10 overall!

Yelp
Food was great! I ordered the mixed greens salad and puttanesca with sausage. Loved it!!! Definitely going to be one of my go-to spots

Yelp
I've come here twice now and it is just a gem! Located in Sellwood, parking can be a bit hard to find. And, if you're coming on a weekend evening it may be hard to grab a spot as I noticed the restaurant gets busy on both weekday and weekend nights! Service here is always very friendly, polite, and quick. The inside of the restaurant is lively, with a darker/more bar-like vibe on one side, and a brighter/livelier dining area on the other. The decor has a lot of antique pieces, a beautiful mural on the wall, and reminds you of a big family restaurant. The first time I went here, I got their vongole, which was recommended by a friend (and seems to be one of their more famous dishes). The portion came out to be huge, with a generous GENEROUS portion of clams. The broth was heavenly and the garlic bread was absolutely to-die-for (and goes well with the broth). The vongole was so delicious, I had to come back with my boyfriend. The second time I came with my boyfriend, we got the shrimp, the vongole, and the bolognese with paccheri noodles. The shrimp was delicious and also came with a lot of shrimp. The vongole was once again amazing. And, the bolognese was phenomenal. I've never had paccheri noodles before, and loved trying it. Their seasoning and bolognese was delicious, and I could've had it forever (if I didn't get so full from their big portions). Overall, I loved this spot and would definitely come back to try more of their menu items.

Yelp
Came to Gino's with a group of friends and had a wonderful time. Very unassuming from the outside - we almost thought it wasn't there when we arrived! The interior was lovely and romantically dark, and the women's bathroom was fun with an explosion of bright flowered wallpaper! I'd already decided on the Paccheri when our lovely host recommended it and omg - it was a showstopper. It was the favorite of everyone at the table (we all exchanged bites because we be family like that), and I would go there again and again to order that. The other dishes my friends ordered were good, but not something I'd come back for. The cappuccino and tiramisu* were very good. Had a great time! Hope to be back! *I like tiramisu that doesn't taste a lot like coffee - and I know that's weird. If most people love a tiramisu, I won't like it. I want it to just taste like sweet cream and chocolate with a tiny touch of coffee. That's what this was.

Yelp
We loved the food, service and atmosphere at Gino's. We had a 7:30 reservation on a Monday night and it was full when we got there. We ordered the beet salad to start. It was excellent and very large. Two of us shared it but was enough for four. My wife ordered the spaghetti with clams. It was a huge portion with lots of clams in the shell. She says it was excellent and took leftovers home. I ordered cioppino . This was also excellent and a very large portion. I ate all the seafood and dipped the bread in the delicious broth. I couldn't eat all the pasta. We finished with a very nice cannoli, which thankfully wasn't huge! The service was attentive if not particularly chatty, which was fine for our party. All in all, we had a wonderful meal.
google avatar

Phillip N.

Yelp
Great service but food was a hit or miss for us. Shrimp app was good and as expected Meatball app was the best part of the meal and tasty but nothing amazing Sausage and polenta was kind of bland. If it had the sauce that was with the meatball, it would be much better but the sauce on this was on the flavorless side for the three of us Grandma Jeans pasta was the worse. There was something that made it bitter and kind of had an aftertaste. I want to say rosemary but I'm not sure. But we all hated it and just the most of it away after 5 bites Cioppino was okay. Like it was a seafood stew but not the ones I enjoyed in SF. This tasted heavier and saltier and I'm used to it being lighter, more acidic and fresher tasting Filet mignon was fine Portions were really good but we did throw most of the main meal away
google avatar

Yelp
Gino's has a great vibe. This restaurant becomes my favorite Italian pasta. Everything was delicious, especially the mushroom pasta. My husband love the spaghetti with meatballs. My friends love the vongole;the clam broth was so good and the puttanesca was flavorful. Our waitress was so nice. Gino's has a great vibe.

Charlotte S.

Yelp
Oh. My. God. This place is insane. Small menu but everything was devineeee. We came for lunch and split the clams and bolognese.
google avatar

Shane W.

Yelp
We were pretty disappointed with our visit to Gino's. The penne alla vodka was neither flavorful nor saucy enough, and the pasta was overcooked and The grandma jeans had a lot of inedible meat and overall was too salty. We also found the Caesar salad to be watery.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but it unfortunately didn't hit expectations. This was my first time visiting and I brought my daughter to celebrate her 18th birthday. The reviews of this place and the menu looked good, so we figured it would be a special treat. Right off the bat, the place is deceptive from the outside. The building looks old and run down, and there is no obvious sign letting you know you're at the right place. It's got a dingy old door that looks like some weird side door that you go in. As soon as you enter, there is a huge bar and then a lot of tables they've really squeezed in. They seated us at a booth right next to the swinging kitchen door, which is also weird bc it isn't located in the back or where it's not in the way of customers / walking employees. The restaurants was playing music and generally had a lot of noise. After my daughter and I were seated, she started showing me a digital birthday card her grandma sent her. As we were watching it, a server came up and asked that we put our "media away" as it could bother other patrons. While I understand that people often have their phones out and looking at Tik Tok or similar, it was rude of the server to just assume and also even ask us to put it away. The restaurant was not quiet by any means, nor is it fancy where you wouldn't dare pull your phone out. I told the server we were watching a birthday card and he did apologize, but it definitely turned us off right from the get go. He said this BEFORE he even greeted us. It was bizarre. I want to note, in their menu, they specify that they add 4% onto your bill if you pay with card. Why. Why is a 4% non-cash adjustment added. The prices of the dishes are already astronomical and they expect people will pay cash?? Nobody has cash on them anymore. I thought this was crazy in and of itself. I ordered the shrimp starter and my daughter got the mussels. They came out relatively fast and came with a side of crusty bread. The shrimp was just okay, nothing special. My daughter did love the mussels...they were HUGE. For our entrees, I ordered the vongole, and my daughter the spaghetti and meatballs. Neither of these dishes were spectacular. The vongole was basically like spaghetti in soup and void of much flavor. The spaghetti was basically 5 giant meatballs with some spaghetti noodles added in there. The noodles in both of the dishes did not taste homemade...they tasted like regular packaged noodles. Overall, the food was lacking. We didn't finish our meals, minus the bread which was good. The food is also overpriced. $22 for some spaghetti noodles, watery broth, and clams! Nope nope. The server did feel bad about the cell phone thing and comped us our drinks, so that was appreciated. Shrimp starter 5/10 Mussels starter 10/10 Spaghetti w/ meatballs 5/10 Vongole 3/10

Yelp
Ginos is solid. Classic Italian American spot that has consistently good food and drinks. Don't expect a fine dining experience (that's not what it touts itself to be) but do expect an Italian restaurant that covers the basics well, has a great dark interior with comfy outdoor spots too. The service and prices are great.

Jim P.

Yelp
Recently ate at Geno's in a large group. The waiter brought unordered food to the table then charged for the food, and got the checks wrong. The owner became involved, admitted there were mistakes and that the checks were wrong, but refused to make corrections. Absolutely no interest in problem resolution. The waiter was inattentive and, although Geno's requested that we not stay more than 2 hours, at the 2 hour and 15 minute mark, we had to track him down to get the checks and then spent another 15 trying to get them corrected. The food was good, but the noise level was very high. We will not be returning.

Yelp
Food, Service and Ambiance is romantic and flavorful all around. Ate lunch here on a recommendation 8 months ago and couldn't stop talking about it. Wish I lived closer, we would be in once a week! The Ravioli and Grandma Jeans pasta are to die for!

Yelp
Gino and I went back many years ago since I had a business across from Gino and also lived in the sweet neighborhood of Sellwood. Gino is a place where everybody know your names (like Cheer if you're a regular). The foods has been consistently very good. They are very generous with their portion. All the servers are very friendly. The owner is super friendly. I do not need to brag about Gino. You need to come for yourself to experience the personal level of the service. These photos were the good old days. We dined and wine with our silent partner that never fail to show up. A perfect dated that eats whatever we ordered;). They're no longer with us. There were drink in Gino menu named after these two cats.

Yelp
Restaurant was really cute, service was great. Drinks were delicious, burrata appetizer was phenomenal, came with mortadella and the best home made pickles. Ordered the ravioli which was absolute fire. Got a recommendation to order the grandma jeans pasta and the meat was very tender but the sauce was so salty and almost inedible. I had to run to the bar next door after to explode, would not recommend that dish. Otherwise solid place.

Angela S.

Yelp
First time we went pasta everything was excellent- next time I had ordered the chicken dish, heavy salt on greens and chicken could barely eat it. God it's going to cause a heart attack on someone with that much salt.

Yelp
The food is awesome. Large portions, very fresh with everything homemade. They have an extensive wine list and a full bar. The wait staff is very attentive and don't waste time in getting you your drinks or food. This is Portland at it's best. Go and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Located in a cute corner spot in sellwood! The street next to this restaurant is permanently closed so this allows for outdoor dining on warm nights. The inside is like all true Italian restaurants, dark (why are they all so dark??) but it is charming. The staff are quick, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. This is a family friendly restaurant but also a great spot for a date night. The food is great, their salads and mixed drinks are amazing! The parking can be tricky but there's plenty of street parking on the surrounding blocks.

Joe G.

Yelp
I love old school Italian, and Gino's absolutely fills that description. Great food and atmosphere in an historic building. Ample sized entrees, and reasonably priced cocktails round out a great experience. Professional and attentive service make Gino's hard to resist. We love the Vongole and Paccheri from the pasta dishes.
google avatar

Keely N.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Portland, Oregon. The vegan puttanesca is delicious and very flavorful with lots of olives. Though it is a little pricey, the plates are fairly large. The flavor is also always consistent and never disappoints. Also I really appreciate the staff because they are always happy about changing my order or cooking me up a new plate if they mess it up.
google avatar

Dawn F.

Yelp
Solid lunch spot in Sellwood. It was fairly busy, and only one front staff person, so maybe plan on a more leisurely lunch. The shrimp scampi was tasty, a little under seasoned, but the garlic bread that came with it was awesome. The tiramisu was pretty good, and the cannoli was ok. The shells were crunchy, but the filling wasn't as thick as I like it. Lots of chocolate tho. All in all, I would come back here again.

Quinn F.

Yelp
I love Gino's! They have amazing service and incredible Italian food!! Also, their ambiance is great!

Yelp
Gino's is my go to for special occasions with my family. Wonderful Italian food with generous portions. The tiramisu is to die for. Love this place!

Yelp
Fantastic Authentic Italian dishes, huge portions. Service is always excellent and friendly.

Yelp
Highly recommended Italian American style restaurant nestled in Sellwood. Prepare for a cozy atmosphere while you smell the garlic as soon as you walk-in. Staff is always very friendly and professional. The portions are pretty big, and the menu staples tend to stick around. The cesar salad, mussels, and Grandma Jean's pasta are items we tend to order frequently. I love that their dishes also come with a side of bread. You really do feel like your having dinner at a friends house when you eat here. There is indoor and outdoor seating, I prefer sitting inside because you can't beat the ambiance. Pro Tip: Make reservations, this place gets VERY busy, especially on the weekends.

Yelp
Great spot to pop into for a quick beverage (even better if you have time to eat!). The bartender at the time (Micah) made delicious drinks.

Yelp
Had a delightful dinner here tonight. Spaghetti and meatballs were just right! And the service was excellent. I'm always on the lookout for great Italian restaurants and Gino's is now one of my favorites. Can't wait to go back and try more of their menu, especially their cocktails and desserts!

Yelp
Some of the best I've had! This place is legitimate, the portions are huge! I had the Grandma Jeans and abudanza! The sauce was like a Sunday Sauce. Service was good in spite of how busy the restaurant was last night. Outside of the business was so unassuming so don't let it fool you if this is your first time.

Gregg G.

Yelp
First off, the staff were fantastic. The young lady and the young man helping us when we checked in we're so friendly and nice and even though we thought we had a reservation, but it turned out it didn't go through. They accommodated us anyway, and made sure we had drinks while we were waiting. The food was great. This was our first time there as we had received a gift certificate from a friend. We were very very delighted with the food. The shrimp as a starter were fantastic and the chicken piccata was huge and. We shared it and that was plenty for both of us. We highly recommend Gino's in Sellwood. The parking can be a little difficult, but it was well worth it.

Yelp
So we had dinner here tonight for the first time. Our server must have been very busy or she forgot about us. We ordered and got our food and was quite surprised by the huge portions. Not that it's a bad thing but our server neglected to tell us about the size before ordering . The service is also very, very slow. But food was good.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots! Great food and generous portions. Love the caprese salad.

Yelp
We usually go here once or twice a year as a treat as we live outside of Portland. We have always loved the food and laid back feel of the place. Service was excellent and it has the same cozy feel but our food simply wasn't as good as usual. It might have been an off night but the mushroom pasta and the butternut ravioli both were in a pool of buttery oil and so salty it made us feel kind of flushed and hurt my stomach later that evening. I had to throw out the leftovers. Disappointed as I have been going here since the late 1990's.

Yelp
It's been a long time since we had a date night. I don't know how it got on the wife's radar but it did. We had the senior hour reservations so we could see a movie after. We started with the cheese plate. Three hunks of cheese which had names...who knows what they were from. Delicious onion jam. Six tiny pieces of baguette and plain hazelnuts. I shake my head. Tastes good but I expected more. Got the Caesar salad. Wow. Strong flavors. Garlic blowout. Way too strong. I hear it used to be a freshly prepared two person course but it is no longer. I got the grandma jeans. Luscious and rich as advertised. Slightly too salty. I raised an eyebrow at the addition of the pepperoni. It did add flavor but not worth the added salt. The portion was yuge! It made three meals worth. The wife got the parpadelle. It was very tasty. Nice amount of mushrooms and a ridiculous portion for how rich it was. Again about three meals worth. The garlic bread was good. Very tasty but the bottom half was mess with your dental work tough. Service was a little aloof but I'll keep giving the COVID grace. I'd come back to try some other things. Note. It is in the tavern building. It is not obvious from the street.

Yelp
Wish I could rate lower than a star. Wait time was horrendous and the server tried gilt tripping me in to buying a bottle of wine when I didn't like it in the first place. At the end I didn't finish my food because it was awful still payed still tipped in cash I tip 15$ but come to review my banking transaction I was charged an extra 20$ on the receipt. Usually I just sign and put the total but now I've lost all my trust in this establishment and will be putting a big 0.00 as tip on the receipt if I ever go again probably not though unbelievable

Yelp
Great neighborhood gem of a restaurant. We were staying at a nearby Airbnb and came upon this place half a block away. Food was reasonably priced for serving size and quality. My wife got the chicken and I got the cioppino. I would recommend either. Chicken dinner was $22, cioppino $29. Service was friendly and efficient and ambience is casual. We had the olive oil cake for dessert with two Americanos. 4% charge if you pay by card but we paid by cash. Glad we found the place.

Yelp
I have been dying to get back to this place since the first time I went there over 2 years ago finally I got my sister-in-law to go with me, once again I was able to have the most delectable mind-altering Caesar salad in southeast Portland it is truly fabulous with just the right amount of ingredients that make up a caesar salad and I do know a thing or two about a caesar salad. I followed that up with their clams in a Buttery wine sauce that was so satisfying ,buttery garlic toast on the sides all the way around the plate. my meal was prepared and served to perfection It was like entering a new realm of dining on Italian cuisine my only critique would be is to put the name of your establishment on the outside of your building so that people can find it easier other than that wonderful.

Yelp
Everything from the smells to the taste of all that we ordered for my birthday dinner was absolutely amazing. Even leftovers were incredible. We live in Salem and will definitely be willing to make the drive back for a fav date night in the future!

Yelp
I'm trying to make it a thing to visit all the restaurants in Sellwood and this time was Italian. We got there right before the dinner rush and had the option to sit inside or outside. We opted for the latter cause you know, covid and everything. They had a good dozen tables outside, some near portable heaters. We started with the beet salad which was sooooo good (and I assume could be veganized sans the cheese). I got a glass of rosé because I'm not a fan of Italian reds (heresy, I'm sure) and my husband got a beer. For entrees, spaghetti and meatballs and penne allá vodka. The entrees were served with a chunk of toasted and buttered bread. Portions were super generous and we had leftovers to take home. I wish I had room for dessert because I really wanted some tiramisu. Next time! Service was great and relaxed, felt no rush, everything was timed perfectly. Food was delicious and I look forward to coming back and trying something else. Pretty reasonable for a good Italian meal -- a big salad, two drinks, two entrees, and tip came to $78.

Yelp
Grandma Jean's--almost as much meat (including a couple ribs) as pasta, and such a tasty, slow-cooked seeming sauce. Such a good-sized portion I could barely finish. So when you consider quality and quantity it's a very good deal. Reasonable prices all around the menu here, as is the craft and flavor. Others had ravioli and clams, both plentiful and delicious. Our server had a great personality and skill-set--best server I've had in a long time! We did have to step up to get a water refill. And the place was a bit noisy. The bar in the front half is gorgeous, and the place overall exudes old portland and a sense of homey grace
