Gino's Restaurant

Authentic Italian American restaurant with a homey yet upscale vibe. The server was impeccable. I had the lunch special veal. The spaghetti that accompanied the veal was the star though. I could drink that red sauce. The veal was prepared perfectly, but it lacked flavor. My daughter's lasagna was delectable as well as the house bread and vinegarette for the salad. I'd definitely return for a date night.

This place was awesome. The waiter was so professional and helpful. His recommendation for the lamb chops was spot on. Some of the best I've ever had. The wine he recommended paired beautifully. The bowtie pasta side dish was great too! Such an elegant atmosphere.

The food was amazing!! I haven't been to Gino's since my brother was in culinary school in the 2000s. It was like going back home it's an old restaurant with amazing simple food. I had the tortellini, and it has alfredo sauce on it . It's the best sauce . My mom had cannelloni one with red sauce and one with white. She said it was amazing. Service was great and we got dessert togo . I had the pistachio cake it was a first and omg it was good. Mamma Gino's recipes are classic and traditional I highly recommend. I know she is missed definitely make reservations and go!!

First time going yesterday for Valentine’s Day . Got the big meat ball with red sauce app and bread (forgot the name ) very delicious, sauce was a little sweet but still great. The mushroom ravioli , delisciousss sauce and ravioli as well. Caprese salads were bright and fresh . My husbands entree the veal Parmesan , with a fried cutlet , red sauce and Parmesan on top also came with a side of spaghetti for 26$. His Portion was reasonable. My entree was the seafood stuffed shells ( also Forgot the name ) it has two 2in x 4in logs stuffed pasta shell. Pasta shell were a bit too al dente. There was a white sauce and some odd red sauce on top. The whole dish was void of flavor and seemed extremely lackluster for$28. The cocktails were absolutely the best part of the meal . Italian 75 and the margarita are two I would go back for . Server was Jagger , a little stingy with the cheese but wonderful server . Very polite and intuitive and professional. Atmosphere was beautiful with love piano playing in the background . Did our whole meal seem worth $200 we spent , not really .

It's was really good for a packed Thursday night in fact ,we couldn't even find a place to park and had to park across the street which many others did after we parked there. Olivia our waitress was really good, very nice, great attitude , but also very busy. When the place is packed like it was that night it's hard to wait on everyone at the same time so the wait was a little longer than we would have hoped for but still reasonable . Maybe a few more waiters or waitresses would have helped the situation. Gino was there and the band was really good. Very old musicians who had been there for 40 years Gino told me but they were solid and played very low which is hard to do and still sound good. The food was excellent and more than enough to fill us easily. I read many of the reviews before we went (group off 7) there and just don't get the 1 star reviews , as that is not how this place is in fact would say it's bashing more than anything. As for what size group would be favorable I'd say 2 to 4 as a large section requires more time and in a packed place like this can be a time consuming event so if there is an improvement Gino could make that would be it. That being said Olivia was great and would go back again in a heartbeat.

This place feels like one of those plazas in Italy with their interiors. We started with the Lawrence bread. My date got the veal Parmesan with a side of spaghetti and I got the veal Tomahawk special, which was an absolutely splendid chunk of meat. At the end, I was picking it up and eating the meat off the bone like a true caveman. The bowtie pasta came on the side and was also fantastic. I forgot what the dessert was called, but it was also super good.

While visiting Baton Rouge we decided on Italian. Picked this place. Service was Great and read Great reviews but unfortunately it didn't live up to the 5 star people we're giving it. Didn't have the taste we we're expecting. Still was worth going but wouldn't go back. There we're a lot of items on the menu they we're out of, so that sucked.

Lunched here with a group of twelve people and our group had reservations. I got the spegetti with meatballs and the taste was lacking to say the least; no flavor! Once the group was finished, it took more than an hour to receive the checks (checks were separate). There was only one moderate sized group remaining in the restaurant. The atmosphere was dark and the table groupings a little close for comfort. The prices were a little high for a lunch munch.

Once a month, I meet with a group of sweet ladies for lunch and we like to try a different restaurant each time. For April, we chose Gino's. The waiter who served us wasn't particularly personable, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt--maybe he was just having a rough day. He took our drink orders and asked if we would like some "Laurence bread." We had not heard of it, and it wasn't clear whether it was complimentary or not. He recommended we get three orders (two pieces per order) to cover our group of six. At that point, we realized it wasn't complimentary--but that was okay. Most of us ordered from the daily lunch specials. I chose the veal, which came with a salad. The salad was good. One friend, however, said her salad had entirely too much dressing on it, and was not enjoyable. When my entrée arrived, I was disappointed to find a lone, dry fried veal cutlet with no sauce and a side of spaghetti with just a dab of sauce for color. The lunch was $18.95. I requested extra sauce for the veal and my bread roll--he brought some--cost $1.50. Oddly, Parmesan cheese wasn't offered, which is standard at most Italian places. One friend asked the man refilling our drinks, but he never returned. She eventually asked the waiter, who did bring some. Honestly, I'm surprised we didn't find a charge on our bill for that too. As we boxed up our leftovers (though I'm not even sure why), one friend who had the chicken shish kebab--and had only eaten about half--was asked why she wasn't taking hers home. She replied, "It came to the table dry--I can't imagine it reheated." When the checks arrived, one friend was mistakenly charged for a salad that should have been included with her meal, but she caught it, and they corrected it. Another friend, who hadn't ordered from the lunch menu, was charged $25 for her meal plus an additional fee for her salad, which wasn't included. And each of us was charged $3.25 for a single roll. I understand that prices are up and dining out is a luxury, but this felt a bit steep for a meal that was, at best, mediocre. Side note: Two ladies ordered meals to take home for their husbands, and I gave my leftovers to mine. All three were unimpressed.

Expensive for what it is, but it's good Italian food in the Baton Rouge area. I got the Italian Sausage meal (sauce and sausage not pictured) with a Caprese Salad to go, and it was $40, which I thought was very expensive for the portion size. The noddles, sausage and sauce were amazing. It comes with two sausage links and tons of sauce. Even though I had it to-go, I feel like I still got the delicious quality of food. I wish there was more for the price.. I feel like it was only a cup of noodles, but oh well. The Caprese Salad was average but only two pieces. I did like the thickness of the cheese though. I ordered and within 25 minutes it was ready to go. You have to walk to the bar to pick up to-go orders, and this gives you a chance to see the restaurant. I liked this because most restaurants have you pick up to-go orders at the front, so you aren't able to see the resturant. It's an old Italian vibe with fireplaces and a dark lighting inside. Very authentic Italian, just wish portion sizes were bigger because I was still hungry after.

Some of the best food that I have had at a restaurant, (anywhere). I have visited hundreds of eateries across America and Europe, so that is a significant statement. Gino's has a wonderful website so I didn't see a reason to add pictures. Do yourself a favor and visit the website then make a reservation and experience this amazing Italian restaurant.

Im reviewing this again because i cannot say enough good things about their food or service. Authentic italian food with the best service. Its almost impossible to enjoy Italian food elsewhere when the bar is set so high. We had the Crawfish appetizer which was heavenly. Definatley make a special trip during crawfish season for this. Steaks were divine, lamb chops were perfectly cooked. Even a simple menu item like chicken parmigiana is cooked to perfection. Fortunately we sat at Michael's table again and he is a wonderful attendant to a perfect meal!

Moody ambience! Great atmosphere. For a party of 6, our food came out pretty quickly. Our waiter was very informative about every dish on the menu. We had the Laurence bread, calamari, and arancine to start which were great! I had the veal piccata which was delicious. Most of the meals came with a side of pasta. Someone else ordered the seafood lasagna lent special which was also very good!! Will definitely come back.

Good food, great service, and kind of a hidden gem. Do think the food was a bit overpriced, but would definitely recommend to others.

We had the chicken parm, chicken marsala, and clams with linguine. All were delicious and the service was excellent. Nice ambiance. Prices are fair for such a beautiful restaurant. Highly recommend.

Great place to gather. Arancini was spot on. All the dishes were perfect and the servers treat you like family.

Amazing food. I had an appetizer, bread, steak and dessert and didn't feel stuffed or bloated. Great service. A little dark but cozy inside.

Second time here. First was approx 20 yrs ago for lunch. This tine for dinner. Calamari, seafood lasagna, almond creme tiramisu and the Moscato was absolutely amazing. As usual when we were seated, we were asked if we would like some Italian bread and of course we replied with a yes. Then (as usual) we asked for some Italian dipping oil. The waiter had no clue what we were asking for !!!!!! Yes, no clue..... Meal and wine were fabulous. Service not so great.

Service is bad from the bald headed server and the chicken parmigiana was so blend that I didn't finish it.

Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. Super upbeat atmosphere with authentic Italian food that is a local go to for a very long time. You'll be very happy when you leave here. If you want real Italian food and great atmosphere. Authentic Baton Rouge - this is it.

Tuesday dinner, 6/22/21 first time visit. Easy 5 review. Atmosphere, service and food were equally amazing. I was here with a friend (who is local) for dinner around 7:30pm. Everything was fantastic, the food was incredible. For me I am pretty traditional when visiting an Italian restaurant for the first time, chicken parmigiana. It was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The recommended wine, Plumjack Cabernet was great too! Kudos to you & your staff!

My favorite place in the entire city. Great food. I really mean great, the red sauce is killer! Best service in the city hands down. Little lady at the host stand always so polite and helpful. Very nice people here. I love to come here for lunch but the Night ambiance here is unmatched for the Baton Rouge area. I Love this place and when I move away I will miss it. Worth coming back here for.

This place is it! The food and service were both out the park! I wish I had taken more pictures, but the appetizer and entree of breaded veal with eggplant covered in monzarella was delicious. To top it off we had the lemoncello cake...amazing!

Best Italian food. I've been going there since I was a baby. Now I get to take my baby. He loves it as much as I do. Cricket is always our server. He's the best. You will not be disappointed in anything you order.

Owned by the same family for years! It was one of Nick Saban's favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge for a reason! The food is phenomenal along with the service

Quaint ambience, old Italian feel so you know the food is good. Owners are hard workers.

This place is a well-kept secret in Baton Rouge. I'm very picky about Italian food, and I absolutely love Gino's. Three things you do need to know: 1) best to call for a reservation (especially for a weekend or a larger group), 2) the prices are on the higher side, and 3) be sure to order the house specialty bread (it's not included, but worth the price). Note that for groups of 6+ a 20% gratuity will be added to your bill. This is a great place for date night! I've been here a couple of times, and the wait staff are always very friendly. They are also super knowledgeable about their menu, including their rather extensive wine menu. The cannelloni (both seafood and meat options) are delicious and probably the best pasta dish on the menu. I've tried to order the tortellini carbona a few times, but somehow they are always out (womp womp - bad luck, perhaps). If you get dessert - the tartufo cake is absolutely delicious. It's sharable, but you might not want to share...

Not very friendly. We were from out of town. Their website is not say anything about calling for reservations or even making reservations of any kind. When we showed up, they were not very hospitable Not the way, I would expect you to treat out of towners.

Went back on a Thursday. There was a live "jazz" band. The genre wasn't quite jazz but they were great! Had a really good time listening to them and watching others dance. Food was just okay this time around. The Laurence Bead is still amazing! But the Mushroom Ravioli and Mama's Special Salad were bland.

I went back to Gino's after years away and was disappointed. They could not find my reservation, which was twice confirmed by phone. Service was prompt and responsive. My grilled fish was overcooked and mushy--probably from being frozen--and sat in a pool of oil. The appetizer salad was small and mostly white lettuce parts. Others in our party were okay with their selections, including a beautiful beef filet. I was not so lucky.

Great atmosphere wait staff was the best. I got the lasagna and it was fabulous. I found it a great place to have meetings.

Terrible food a sad state of affairs if people who come here believe it's 4 stars....true Italian chefs would be in disbelief of the crap served.. chicken parmigiana is a mystery...meatballs are horrible...DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE... save your $$ lastly I think the crawfish took everyone's taste buds

So I'll admit to skepticism when a colleague said he was taking us to great Italian when I was in Baton Rouge on business. I mean the two are not synonymous. However, this place delivered. I eat mostly vegan and they made me a pasta with olive oil, garlic, basil and mushrooms and broccoli that was scrumptious. Not too much salt, a little excessive on the oil but admittedly it did provide great flavor. The amount was more than fair for the price. The wine was a Russian River Valley Pinot noir and so perfect with the meal. Rich but not heavy and with great flavors that enhances the food rather than competes with it. Colleagues had the grilled fish of the night and and the cannelloni and let's just say that the sounds being made were probably not business friendly lol. The only issue was the service. It was very slow but the gentleman was very nice - took quite a while to get the order taken. The food came pretty quickly just the wait to order was a bit excessive to me. Otherwise outstanding and I would absolutely recommend.

It's been a while since I have been here. It was still very good, prices not bad and service was very quick. Very busy too. Nice atmosphere but extremely loud. Our water server was one of the nicest people there. However our server was not and did not help us feel welcome. Overall we enjoyed our experience.

As someone who heavily enjoys a nice, high-quality experience, I tend to have high expectations that fall short. But I can honestly say my expectations were exceeded at Gino's. I visited Gino's last August & initially when we walked in we did not know it was reservation only (honest mistake). The hosts/hostess were not the kindest & for a second we were ready to turn around and leave. They told us we need a reservation because it's reservation only so we asked when is there availability. They said they had room and sat us...the building was nearly empty. I just felt their tone was unnecessary & it was a turn off as a first time visit. What really turned this review around was Terry, our server. Terry has the be one of the best server I've ever had, hands down. He was so friendly & had amazing energy. He helped us navigate the menu, shared his recommendations, and made sure we enjoyed Gino's to the fullest extent! I recommend everyone to give this Italian restaurant a try! The food is delicious. It's the perfect location for a formal or casual dinner spot. The atmosphere is low-lit & intimate. It is my go to spot when I want to treat myself. Oh--and when you make reservations, ask for Terry! He really is the reason my experience was worth this 5 star review.

It's been 2 years since I've been here the food was through the roof! The service was very nice too,it was quite quick. The ambiance was nice too...perfectly festive! I will return to Gino's soon...hungry for more! - Grayson PS I had Spaghetti and Meatballs!

I love eating here. I do t make it often but always go on my birthday. Our waiter was wonderful. I had the redfish special it was very good and flavored well. My husband had the veal picatia . He did not care for the capers so he just took them off. It was tender and delicious. We had the mushroom ravioli for the appetizer they were unique to me but tasted great. Their bread is also amazing. My husband and I had the side salad Gino's had thousand island which is my husbands favorite but most restaurants don't have it. He said that was the best salad he had had for a long time and the dressing was perfect made. I also had the espresso martini and the Gino special cocktail these were both good and the special tasted like a dessert... I love there terimusu but I had to take it to go because I was stuffed... but when I did eat the dessert it was wonderful

The Lawrence bread was delicious, you have to try it. I had the veal Parmesan and it was very good. The service was good too. You have to try the lemon jello cake for dessert, it's the best! We will be back.

Enjoy going here, people are friendly, and the food is great. The Lawrence Bread is a must. Will continue to visit this restaurant.

This place is tucked away but easy to get too. This was my first time eating here and it was ok, I've had better Italian at other places, but for Baton Rouge I would say it's a good place to go. Went with a group of 4 couples and we had a great time. The wine menu is great! I ordered the cannelloni and it was definitely delicious but not like knock your socks off omg I need it again delicious. The apps for the table were the same, can't complain about the flavor but they were not anything special. The only complaint I have is how difficult it was for our server to separate our checks. Dress- jeans, slacks, dresses Vibe- dark, intimate Good for- date night or small groups

I don't want to give my secret away but after being out of the area since COVID I came back to BR and Gino's is still the best Italian in town!! Great food. Great wine list. Locals only. I will keep bringing friends and family here.

Yummy Italian food!!! Found this spot on Yelp in a desperate last minute dinner location search. We came here on a Friday night, so it was pretty busy and we had to wait for a bit before we got seated. The food was delicious and there's tons of options to satisfy all of your food cravings! I got the veal parmesan, which is my go-to at Italian restaurants, and this was one of the best veal parmesans I've had. The service was great and the only thing I didn't like very much was how loud the restaurant was. I definitely think I'll be back here!

Gino's is one of my all time favorite classic Italian restaurants in the Baton Rouge area. Their arancini and Laurence bread is always a must to start any meal! It is always a good idea to call ahead and make reservations.

So sad..I had heard a lot about Gino's but was underwhelmed at minimum. My chicken was so dry I could not eat it. A trained waiter would notice and question why..offer something else..but none of that happened. Chicken isn't that complicated! Coffee was cold. I could go on. So sad.

A long standing favorite for old school atmosphere, wonderful service from gentleman that have been there for 20/30 years and the BEST sauce ever !!! I don't stray from my usuals to much . This time it was the Laurence bread beef arancini and Lasagna ! So stinkin good I almost picked up the plate and just slurped up the sauce !!!! Perfect sized portions !! Delicious yummy selection of red wines and ended with the almond cream tiramisu; you better get it !! Was so happy to enjoy this meal on my one day trip home to Baton Rouge !! Thank you Gino's for never changing ! I'm so thankful .

An absolutely laughable portion for a to-go order of Spaghetti and Meatballs that cost $18...... very disappointed. Spend your money elsewhere.

Over the past few years Gino's has become one of my favorite restaurants in town, but tonight we had an experience that disappointed me. It's my wife's absolute favorite, so I decided to take her out for a date night. I decided to order the Filet alla Laurence, which was listed at "market price." I figured it would be somewhere between $30-40, which I was fine with. It was cooked well, but was underseasoned and didn't have much flavor. Everything else - the Laurence bread, Mama's salad w/ crabmeat, arancine - were all great. Our server was overwhelmed and was trying to bartend and wait tables all at once, and was gone for long periods at a time. Anyway, it was pretty lackluster and when the bill came, I was shocked to see that the filet was priced at $58.95 - totally not worth it. IDK, it just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm sure we'll be back, but I certainly won't trust their "market prices" from now on.

I've heard great things about this place so I was expecting great things. Now you have to remember this restaurant has been open since the 1960's and well to be honest it shows . They truly need to update this establishment. The food I ordered the lasagna lunch special and it came with a Italian salad. My daughter ordered the same thing and my mother ordered off the dinner menu . My mom has to order a side salad since even with the higher prices at night her entree didn't come with a salad . They bring out some bread but it's nothing special to be truthful. Maybe I'm just spoiled to Carrabba's bread and dip or Ruffino's I don't know but I prefer the bread sticks at Olive Garden more. They brought out our Italian salads which were pretty good I did like my moms salad better. Once my lasagna came out my daughter noticed they make theirs with sweet peas ‍. Which we both ate it but I've definitely had better lasagna . Don't get me wrong it's okay it's just not great. All in all there are way too many Italian places in Baton Rouge to pay the price for Gino's. Now if they would update the restaurant I may give it a second try. The portions are just to small for the price in my opinion. The service was pretty good I did have to have the waiter change my bill because he charged me for a soft drink when a drank water though . I can see back in the day this was probably a very nice date night restaurant sadly it needs updating badly. For example the restroom door is so tiny I'm sure many people have to turn sideways just to get in. Now my mom absolutely loves this place so you may as well maybe I'm just a little spoiled to the more fancier restaurants instead of classics idk honestly !

The food is only good if you hate seasoning. Tremendously bland. Best thing on the menu is the Laurence bread, but that's a small loaf of bread, nothing to write home about. Ambience is only good if you have nostalgia for the early 70s. Restaurant seems like it hasn't been updated since then. Lights are kept dim so it's harder to see the table scraps they scrape on the floor. Giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because the wait staff was nice. Easily one of the most overrated restaurants in BR, reeks of an overrated yet well established restaurant that will shut down in a few years because they "couldn't find workers".

I don't understand the 4 star reviews. We ordered the Italian sausage platter and the chicken parmigiana. The chicken and the sausage were good, but $25 per dish seams a little high. For that price, you would think that the pasta would be homemade instead of from a box, or they would have included a small salad. We won't be in a hurry to return.

Gino's is always exceptional. They were fully booked on a Tuesday evening; however, we were able to grab a seat at the bar. We were greeted quickly by the bar tenders, asked for our drinks. We had a cosmo, dirty martini and a glass of Pinot noir (J. Lohr). All the drinks were spectacular! We had the appetizer of calamari - was hoping they had the seafood arancini but they only had their beef version available - highly recommend the seafood when in season! We then had the chicken parm, lasagne, grilled soft shell crabs and the Laurence salad (substituted the olive mix dressing for ranch; the palm of hearts are why we went with this salad!). They were packed by the time 6:30 rolled around, definitely recommend making reservations even in the weekday!

Came here on a Friday night, super packed however we made reservations for a birthday dinner and was able to be seated fairly quick! I must say the ambiance makes you feel like you're in an authentic Italian home/restaurant setting. The best part??? Live piano music and we were able to request a few songs! Our server was amazing and very informative. The food was on point however I must say the portions are a bit small for the price. Nonetheless, everything was rich in flavor & delicacy. You MUST GET the Lawrence bread... holy moly... just do it. My family members enjoyed the shrimp champagne, fish of the day & spaghetti as well!!
