"The menu emphasises the season and textures of the ingredients. In spring, razor clams and wild vegetables are made into ohitashi to represent the breath of life. Chargrilled items are the speciality, with unagi from Lake Biwa and ayu from the Tenryugawa River in summer and matsutake wrapped in straw in the autumn. Winter dishes include buri shabu-shabu and crab with rice cooked in an earthenware pot. Each dish showcases the flavours of the ingredients without affectation." - Michelin Inspector

Top Chefs Take Flight

"This is the sister restaurant of Ginza Kojyu and the style of the dishes is similar. In charge of the kitchen is an head chef who trained at this restaurant and at a ryotei in Kyoto. In the spring, the razor clam and wild vegetables is a standard dish; in summer, there is chargrilled ayu and wild caught unagi. At the end come dishes such as takikomi-gohan with hamo and Awajishima onions. The dishes are orthodox yet original." - Michelin Guide Digital-Singapore

Our lunch at Ginza Okuda blew my socks off. It was fantastic. Down an innocuous staircase in an outside vestibule of a Ginza high rise, Ginza Okuda comes across as a hidden den. Past a zen water feature, a customer slides open a shoji screen and is greeted at the front desk. A captain escorts you to this tiny but elegant room with a counter having about eight seats. To our amazement and joy, we were the only patrons. After conferring with Okuda’s sommelier, a beautiful white wine and a multi-layered sake were poured. Then, the show began. Course after course of the most delicious food came from some hidden place in this basement lair. Every dish was memorable, and I sighed like a Tom Cat at a kitty harem. The seafood tasted fresh and was prepared with a light touch, bringing the flavors of each fish to the forefront. Perhaps the highlight was the Puffer Fish, the chef advising us he was licensed by the government to serve this poisonous fish. I am still alive, and his preparation was delicious. Gaza Okura might be our favorite meal so far on this trip. I would award more than one star to this chef and restaurant. This multi-course lunch with wine and sake came to $178.00, a bargain for the great food and divine experience. Lunch at Ginza Okuda is not to be missed.

Phenomenal preparation, service, and quality of dishes. Eveything was excellent. The wine and sake pairing was also delightful (you can also ask for a smaller portion for pairing), serving sake and wine from diverse regions.

My parents and I had an pleasant lunch here! Sometimes Kaiseki meals can have a few too many courses making me uncomfortably full. I kind of like it that the lunch set is not too large but every dish was very high quality
