Where To Eat In Bridgeport

"Gio’s is an Italian restaurant inside a small market—there are checkered tables in the middle of the room surrounded by groceries. So you can pop in and grab a meatball sub from the back counter or take a seat and order a more substantial meal. Stick to the Italian classics, like their really good baked cavatelli and softball-sized arancini. It’s solid food at reasonable prices, and very convenient for when you need both some large bowls of pasta and to pick up some deli meat." - adrian kane, john ringor, nick allen

"Gio’s Cafe is a small Italian grocery store and deli in Bridgeport. The attached restaurant serves Italian dishes like spaghetti and chicken parmigiana, but we prefer the market where you can shop for ingredients to make your own. Come here for things like fresh sausage and pasta, housemade giardiniera, and all sorts of Italian specialty products." - courtney sprewer

Went kinda late with my boyfriend, the service was super super good they really go above and beyond I had the skirt steak risotto and it was sooooooooo good the cook was as great and the meat was soo soft. I’m not a expert on risotto but it was delicious and the consistency was great too! Overall everything was great and will definitely be back!

Google
I must admit Gio’s is the biggest mistake I have ever made !!!!! I have a condo in the city that is right next to this beautiful cafe & deli for several years, every summer I would jog by it and comment how quaint and lovely the place seemed and make a promise that I will find a free day off of work to stop by and give them a try. Well that free day was last Friday, I called in an order for pick up and as soon as I made it home and had the first bite is was nothing but pure love , bliss and enjoyment. I am an avid food lover, I only go on vacations and trips simply for the thought of the food experience I’ll get to try at new places. Gio’s is that place my taste buds have been looking for. I have been here everyday since last Friday ordering a new dish. I am in absolute love with this cafe and deli and will be using them for special lunch dates , favorite go to spot and a gift shop🎁 as well. All of my family loves to cook and it’s amazing that Gio’s sells some of their specialty products in the restaurant so you can take a piece of them home with you even after you leave and their giardiniera is a perfect addition to a gift basket not to mention their fresh loaves of bread they sell daily. I cannot say enough good things about Gio’s you just have to come on in and see it for yourself. This is truly my favorite hidden gem 💎 in the city as they give you the maximum bang for each and every dollar spent. The portion size makes you feel happy you came and delighted to go right back. Their ingredients are so fresh and rich once you go you’ll be coming back in repeat 🔁 just like me !!! They are so professional and happy to help they can even take special requests on your order to make sure you love every bite. Ex: I don’t like onions 🧅 but they had a dish that comes with them, I asked if they could not use onions 🧅 but use mushrooms 🍄‍🟫 instead and they made the change effortlessly and deliciously. The attention to detail here is just impeccable. Thank you Gio’s and your amazing team staff, you help add that special charm and character that makes Chicago the most beautiful and intricate cities in the world 🌎 keep up the good work. As I will be there shortly to pick up my order of the day 😄😁😃 !!!!

Google
The chicken parm sandwich is kinda something to die for. So flavorful 🤤 the breaded steak sandwich was great too!

Google
The staff was attentive, but it took a long time to get my sandwich even though the place was nearly empty. The bread was great, as was the olive oil with fresh basil in it (maybe the best I’ve ever had!), but I tried the breaded eggplant sandwich and it was underwhelming. It was thin enough maybe it could also have a veal steak thrown in. Now that would be an instant Chicago classic! Regardless, I’d go again but would order something else.

Google
The food here is delicious. The service is outstanding. This is one of those funky restaurants that was put inside what used to be at corner store. If that's the kind of thing you like, then this has five stars for atmosphere. Either way, it's great food at a great price. You will not be disappointed.

Google
This small 50-seat Italian restaurant/deli reflects the character of the Bridgeport neighborhood it is in on the south side of chicago. It is fun, the food is good and you can bring your own alcoholic beverages. The portions are huge and shareable. I ordered from the Thursday "specials" menu & had the delicious meat lasagna. Also, try the rigatoni with vodka sauce. I did not care for the fettuccine sauce, which was somewhat bland.

Google
Delicious food, everyone was so nice. My water was never less than halfway full, because the staff was so fast before the dinner rush. The shrimp broccoli fedicini alfredo was around $26 the chicken siciliana was around $22. The pastas were so large, definitely recommended splitting it or half to take home. The atmosphere was so cozy everyone coming or going was saying bye to a table or two, it was so cute. We almost kept walking before we came in because the only outdoor sign was a little covered by the trees. At the end we also got a beautiful pistachio canoli $6, chocolate tartufo gelato $5, and a frozen crema e pistachio $5 to-go. The entire order plus tip was around $100 which was more than google had mentioned. We definitely have plans to go back since the food and shop at front was so awesome.

Yelp
The arancini is gigantic and so good. We have ordered their salads, which are fresh. We have had pastas in the marinara and vodka sauces. My son likes the Italian beef. The bread is fresh. Calamari is not chewy and fried perfectly. Service is super friendly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
An amazing find! Decently authentic, quick and efficient service, cool vibes. There were 6 of us and they were not only able to accommodate a bigger table, but timing of appetizers and entrees was perfect. Lots on the menu to choose from. Tiramisu was the standout!

Yelp
Gio's is absolutely fantastic. It's a family owned spot with fast friendly service - Italian deli by day and a BYOB cafe by night. There's really something for everyone here. We've been 3 times and already rank this high on our list of Chicago favorites. Here are some highlights.. the breaded steak and cold Italian sandwiches are absolutely perfect, love the vodka sauce rigatoni, meatballs are great, also really like the sausage and peppers. If you're looking for a casual midweek spot to grab a great meal anytime of day, this is it!

Yelp
I got delivery so no internal pictures here but the food is awesome! Very authentic taste, I would definitely recommend. It was a big serving of pasta and it came steaming hot. The little limoncello flute was pretty cute

Bernadette E.

Yelp
The stuffed artichoke was not stuffed but sat in a soupy mixture of water and bread crumbs. The leaves were void of any artichoke meat. The owner said the reason was that artichokes were out of season. Then don't serve them when out of season. I was looking forward to eating the heart after the rest being disappointing. But there was a worm in the heart. The server said that was a good thing because it meant that the artichoke was organic. The owner said and did nothing. Second visit, I know, shame on me. There were hairs in the salad and bread bowl. Owner said and did nothing again. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Unfortunately, this was a 3 star meal for us. Granted we didn't dine in, and did take out , but our meal was meh at best. We ordered a couple of meatball sandwiches and a side of fries last night and they didn't even get the basics right. The meatballs were just thrown on to the bread with some sauce. There was no cheese and it wasn't baked. In addition it lacked seasoning, and we had to add salt. The fries were thick but probably should have been fried a bit longer to cook them more. We had got a meatball sub a couple of weeks ago from another popular spot that does fried steak sandwiches not too far from here and they totally hit the spot.

Yelp
Loved atmosphere, food. Great BYOB. Waitstaff was awesome. Friendly and made great suggestions.. love birthday celebration!!

Yelp
I've only ever gotten this place for delivery, but it's been consistently good. The rigatoni with vodka is my go-to order. The sauce is very flavorful, and not spicy or peppery which is great. It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to pasta, but this is 100% the best rigatoni alla vodka i've ever had. The calamari is perfectly cooked and smells like it'll be too fishy (but it's not). Delicious dipping sauce too. The chicken parmesan was an 8/10 rating according to my dad. The chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked. The pasta and sauce was basic but it's hard to mess up something like that. I would highly recommend ordering this place and I'm sure it's even better in person!

Yelp
While visiting friends in Chicago they brought us to this cute Italian cafe for dinner. This is a cute checkered tablecloth eatery that provides food and non alcoholic beverages.. you take your own cocktails if desired. People had bottles of wine at most tables.. why not.. nothing goes better than wine with Italian food. They served us warm yummy bread to start. Then we opted for the calamari.. it was very good. They serve it with cocktail sauce, so I asked for marinara sauce.. the New England way. It was cooked perfectly and delicious. I ordered the cheese ravioli.. I loved it and the sauce it came with. Hubble ordered spaghetti with meat sauce (their take on bolognese sauce. He really enjoyed his dish. Miss Rita had the tortiglioni Cabo area which is her go to dish when she eats there and Brian had the seafood pasta .. and he ate the whole dish. Portions are big so bring your appitite. We will be back for sure on our 2025 trip.

Yelp
This place was once a little corner grocery, then a grocery and deli, and eventually an inconspicuous gem of an Italian eatery. The deli counter is still working, but the aisles have been replaced by tables. This is a friendly little neighborhood cafe, where the owner greets you at the door, and perhaps a well kept secret. There are lots of great options on the menu, and daily specials. So many interesting options to choose from. The service was extremely helpful and attentive, and the food was top notch! The portions were large, and the flavor outstanding. I tried one of about 10 daily specials, the Stuffed shells with ground sausage. I don't know what blend of cheeses they used to stuff the shells, but the the flavor was bold and delicious, and the plentiful sausage was immersed in their amazing vodka cream tomato sauce. The home-made tiramisu was also delicious, and the lady fingers were notably intact and not mushy. I was very impressed with this place. It was my first time. But my friend is a regular, and she said they met this high standards consistently. And then a good as everything was, the check was also a delight. The prices were remarkably low for this quality. The toughest part of this experience could be finding street parking in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Located in the Bridgeport neighborhood, Gio's serve cold cuts made from fresh ingredients daily. The Panini Italiano sandwich is a perfect snack for any time of the day. Stuffed with capicolio, Genoa salami, and mortadella, but I substitute that out for turkey.

Dee S.

Yelp
The staff all were sitting down and eating. The waitress came over gave us water and menus and sat down to eat. She got up, chatted on the phone and walked past 2 times as we sat menus at the end of the table waiting to have our order taken. We waited 5 more minutes until more people came in and finally just got up and left never acknowledging us or even looking up.

Yelp
Yum. That's all I can really can say. Special veal Milanese with risotto is fantastic and the cannoli to finish too. I took home some stuffed shells from their deli and they were phenomenal. It's probably for the best this is such a long drive for me...

Yelp
Great Italian subs and meatball sandwiches! Noticed an Italian sandwich available on focaccia for next time! Fresh ingredients and nice people. Also, a little sit down restaurant in addition to deli carry out. Was able to walk over from my girlfriends! The pastas and desserts look really good. I heard this is a local favorite. Reminds me of the Taylor St or Grand Ave delis! Enjoy

Yelp
Wonderful local authentic food and excellent service. Unique atmosphere. Didn't realize it was BYOB. Will be back w a bottle of wine!

Yelp
This south side gem hits all the marks. Beautiful lunch spot. Breaded steak sandwich. Poof, just magical. Do it. My lunch partner had his favorite sandwich, chicken vesuvio. He raves about it.,Spumoni in the freezer to take home for later. All kinds of Italian market goods to buy. Amazing. I love the home made giardinera. Get some!

Thea M.

Yelp
The service is wonderful. Staff is very personable. The serving sizes are large. The food is pretty average.

Brandon S.

Yelp
Food is good for the most part but I will not go back again. I purchased pasta and added shrimp which they charged me $10 for literally 4 pieces of shrimp that was added. I called them back and they told me so sorry we only give four shrimp. Literally ended up paying $40 for some noodles with 4 pieces of shrimp.

Yelp
It was yummy in my tummy Service was nice I liked the coke and joe petals peach it was really yummy

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in the city. Sorta off the beaten path, but if you're looking for great Italian Food consider it. The owner was super friendly and very charismatic, but the quick lunch they prepared was fantastic. We had heard from others that the Breaded Steak Sandwich was the best.., so I had to try it. The Breaded Steak Sandwich was off the charts good, the flavor of the sauce the crispy texture of the steak while still retaining it's tenderness, it was just a great sandwich. In my rankings the best Steak Sandwich in the city and surrounding suburbs. I will be coming for dinner as well because it has a cool little atmosphere plus a BYOB policy. Enjoy a GREAT ITALIAN dinner while enjoying your favorite bottle of wine as well, or your favorite beer. I look forward to having dinner here as well. 9.1 out of 10 for their breaded steak sandwich! ~Apologies for no pic, it smelled so good, I ate it before snapping a quick pic. Reason for me to come back!

Yelp
Visiting from San Francisco with my 11 y/o son. Stopped here on Monday - our first day here - for cold cuts, cheese, and bread to snack on. Nacho hooked us up with some great staples for the fridge at the house. Came back for Thursday night dinner. Calamari, House Salad, meatballs, mostaccioli w/sautéed broccoli (I'm a big meat eater but haven't had a vegetable since we arrived), and took our tiramisu to go. Great food, all of it. There is also a waitress here who might be the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life. Great food, great casual vibe, great neighborhood spot!

Yelp
Can't complain if I wanted to. On the corner or 27th & Lowe in clout heavy Bridgeport, the political 'Holy Land', sits Gio's Italian deli and restaurant. We figured it was apropos to eat in the Chicago 'Holy Land' on this Good Friday. Gio's is a corner one room deal grocery store / deli / restaurant. The grocery items section of this little spot is built around the dining tables with a deli at the back of the room. Grocery items for purchase can be viewed while you mentally shop while eating dinner. A smart marketing move because the delicious food almost ensures you will leave with a few specialty grocery items. Large portions and you get what you pay for. The fellas here used to be involved in Bella Notte of Grand Ave. so they know what they're doing. Bridgeport is a funny neighborhood, with a 'social club' on every other corner, that can be put off by visitors and people they don't know. People still peek through their curtain onto the street when a car parks in front of their bungalow. But these folks at Gio's are very welcoming as soon as you walk in the door. The guy at the door even said it was okay to park in a no parking zone. I mean hey, it's Bridgeport, right? The guy controlling the door was posted to watch the flow of people in and out and keep covid safe and comfortable for all. We started with a traditional salad I eat at home all the time, made of chilled broccoli, fresh garlic, olive oil and fresh lemon. Simple yet substantial. The meatball sandwich was loaded with good sized meatballs and an obviously homemade marinara. A mostaccioli pasta with broccoli, garlic and olive oil with a few minced anchovies throw in was a pretty large portion of homemade delight. Because it was Good Friday we split a pepper 'n' egg sandwich to make up for eating meatballs. Hey what can I say we're at best, heathens and like the church, can easily 'look the other way' when convenient. What can ya say I was raised Roman Catholic. Sinner or not it's a solid pace in the Bridgeport, political 'Holy Land' to have a good meal. I'll be back.

Yelp
Obsessed might be the understatement of the century!! Everything about this place is 5 stars- from the food, to the service and the ambiance, and it being BYOB. When you first walk in, you feel like you are gonna be eating dinner in a store- but that just adds to the experience. Our waitress was phenomenal and answered all menu questions my mom asks (and it's a lot). For appetizers we tried the fried calamari (comes with a side of cocktail sauce)- which was delicious- nicely fried and not too much breading- just perfect. For dinner I ordered the rigatoni with vodka sauce and first thing I have to say is "holy portion size." My plate was filled to the brim with pasta. The noodles were perfectly cooked to al dente and the sauce was so creamy and flavorful. Hands down, the best vodka sauce I've ever had. We had homemade tiramisu and homemade cannoli for dessert and they were also delicious. This place checked every box! Safe to say, they have earned a customer for life!

Yelp
A small, cozy, friendly eatery! I have transplanted to Chicago from California recently, and always passed by this place since I live close by - but never went in or ordered. Lo and behold, they do accept online delivery/ pickup! I have only tried their soup and meatball side. The soup was pasta fagioli and it was one of the best tasting one I have ever had. The meatballs are in a portion of 2 large size with a bath of marinara sauce. Cannot wait to try their other menu items! Luckily I can just walk here with no hassle :)!!

Sherry W.

Yelp
Love this place but lately they put way too many green onions on everything ! Please note on the menu if green onions are added. I don't like them! I ordered Capellini alle Scoglie & spent a half hour picking out tons of onions. No onions!!!! Please cut the green onions!!!!
google avatar

Lauren K.

Yelp
THE BEST Rigatoni Vodka I've ever had in my life. This place is a hole in the wall with BYOB but it's such a hidden gem that I would tell everyone to go to for these reasons: 1. Food is AMAZING. Everyone at my table was thrilled! 2. Large menu to choose from 3. All staff were very attentive and quick 4. I never felt rushed to leave- I was able to sit back and enjoy desserts with friends. 5. Genuinely authentic Italian food. It feels like you're eating in a family member's kitchen 6. The waitress opened our bottle of wine (which we brought) and poured it for us. Drop all other plans and go to Gio's!!
google avatar

Yelp
A true hidden gem of Chicago. This little Italian restaurant/deli is tucked away on a sleepy side street in Bridgeport. Very unassuming location. You can see the top of a huge, old church looming over the place off in the distance. It kind of has a Boston feel to it. Very old school. It takes you back to how Chicago may have looked/felt in the 1940's or 50's. The food is fantastic. Everything I've tried has been great. The Italian subs are great if you are going for lunch. The antipasto salad is very good and very filling. The broccoli salad appetizer is loaded with garlic, which makes it incredible. They even marinate their olive oil which adds a little extra something to that bread and oil appetizer. You just don't see places like this anymore. I feel like Tony Soprano would love this place.

Yelp
When you look from the outside, it doesn't look like much. And honestly, the exterior could make you pass this up quickly. But don't! Gio's is really THAT good. It's what these reviews say and more. Delicious, priced well, fresh, Italian food that would otherwise be missed if you just looked at it from the outside!
google avatar

Heather P.

Yelp
Went at an odd time (a VERY late lunch) and we were the only people there. Everyone was really kind and service didn't suffer at all. As other reviewers have said, it's very unassuming. It's just good food! Would definitely come back at a "real" meal time. Most important, they have a house made giardiniera made with olive oil which is super hard to find! Got a couple bottles to bring home.
google avatar

Yelp
First and foremost, you should know you're going to be eating fantastic food in the middle of a corner deli. That's right. There will be neither mood lighting, modern decor nor art collections hanging from the walls. Amidst freezer cases and shelves filled with Barilla pasta, you'll wine (it's BYOB) and dine. Still with me? Good. Let's talk food. Last night, the hubs, daughter and I sampled four dishes. We started with the fried mozzarella served with marinara sauce. I enjoyed the triangular, finger friendly shape of these and the taste was superior to most fried mozzarella appetizers. However, at almost $9 for four, it's a little pricey. Next, for our entrees, we shared the tortiglioni carbonara. Yes, you need to order this dish. Served piping hot, the explosive flavor transported me back to sidewalk cafes in Florence. It's a perfect pasta dish. We also tried the capellini alle scoglie, a pasta dish with plenty of clams, mussels and two shrimp. This one was very good, but not as good as the tortiglioni. Finally, we knew we had to finish the meal off with the tiramisu. Ooo...it was tasty. It wasn't necessarily the prettiest version I've seen; but it was eye pleasing enough and the taste delivered. A couple of non-food related notes: - We came at around 6:30 on a Saturday night and only had to wait twenty minutes or so for a table for three - Service was friendly and fast - Street parking was easy I'm so glad to have found Gio's on Yelp. We'll bring some friends and be back soon.

Yelp
Good sandwiches and a very good arancini (but be sure to request the sauce on the side if you take it to go or the arancini can get soggy).
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
We catered chicken vesuvio for about 20 people and I was shocked to see al the peas poured on top, as if they opened two cans of peas. The chicken was dry with very little sauce and no taste. Low quality chicken. Will not be catering from Gio's again.

Yelp
The food is mostly good service average the prices are way overpriced for this small neighborhood deli. Your eating in a small neighborhood joint and then BAM you get the bill and say I'm not downtown am I
google avatar

Yelp
Their food is always delicious with large portions!! I always get the carbonara. You always get fresh bread and butter. The place is hidden, but a gem. It has charm and has been there since 1980s I believe!!!

Yelp
This place is GOLD! My party of 3 decided to check out this neighborhood hotspot. So glad we did! We stopped in around 7pm on a Tuesday. They were packed! We were kindly greeted and seated. Complimentary bread was promptly set down with olive oil and parm cheese on the table (bread was great-perfect crust). This business is BYOB so we popped open a bottle of wine and checked out the menu. We started with the fried cheese-good but nothing outstanding-basically a cheesestick. We ordered our main entrees next to share that consisted of chicken parm, rigatoni vodka and my favorite the tortiglioni carbonara. The tortiglioni carbonara was so creamy and delicious...rich but not too rich. The pasta itself was cooked to perfection on all dishes. Rigatoni vodka was good but a bit bland. One member of the group said the chicken parm was her favorite while it was my least favorite. We finished by sharing a cannoli and house make tiramisu along with coffee and cappuccino. The coffee is a must here...especially the cappuccino! Desert was good...no complaints. The service was pretty good. They were busy so we didn't see our waitress much but I guess if we needed something we should have yelled to someone. Overall we had the fried cheese, a bowl of soup, 3 pasta dishes, a side order of grilled shrimp, 1 cannoli and 1 tiramisu and the total was $92 including tax. We all left full and had two small togo boxes left. This place is wonderful...we will be back FOR SURE!

Yelp
Very helpful, but a little pricey. My daughter lives nearby, and I was craving an afternoon snack while I was visiting. A stroll over to Gio's, and $10 later, and I had a half pound of a couple of different cheeses, and a big bottle of Pelegrino water, which we shared after I got back to her apartment. The staff was very helpful, the restaurant was immaculately clean, and other than the price, an altogether pleasant experience.

Yelp
Have frequented this place this place ~30 but only dined in once. Never have I once been disappointed. From the soups and salads, to the spaghetti and chicken parm, everything is phenomenal! My personal favorites are: 1. Spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs 2. Pasta carbonara 3. Anything with Bolognese sauce ...obviously I'm a pasta guy, but I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu! It feels like you are in someone's kitchen and they are making you a homemade dinner. Do yourself a favor and get to it!
google avatar

Yelp
Great BYOB Italian place that doesn't charge a corkage fee. The restaurant is a little confusing since it's a deli, but easy to get a table. My best friend and I went on Friday. This is her go-to Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. The baked homemade cavatelli is the best thing on the menu! Homemade cheese raviolis are also great and they are BIG. Large portions. You'll get hot bread for the table with olive oil. Good place to try with friends or the family.

Nicholas B.

Yelp
Great tender calamari. A lot for two people though. Big portions here. The capellini with clams, mussels & shrimp was good. White sauce on it was more flavorful than most other places but still not heavy. Vodka sauce was the best I've ever had. I can't imagine coming back here and not ordering it despite wanting to try their other dishes.

Yelp
Tried this Italian eatery based on check please recommendation. Greeted with a luke warm reception. The waitress was no smiles, barely answered our questions. I asked if the eggplant parm sandwich came with anything like a side of pasta and she said No followed by asking me if I wanted cheese and peppers--I said yes. She asked me if I wanted sweet or hot peppers and I responded hot. We asked for a 1/2 portion of spaghetti for our 2yo. Once we received the bill, I was shocked that a small "1/2" portion of spaghetti was $9 (not listed in the menu) and that I was charged for cheese and peppers on the sandwich. When I questioned her, she said everything is extra BUT no where on the menu is this stated nor did she explain this. The cashier took off the charge for cheese but stated he could not remove the peppers. Honestly, I didn't ask them to remove any charges, just explained the waitress should have explained what was extra. Overall--mediocre place, prices are expensive and service is poor.

Yelp
By far one of the best restaurants in the city! This cozy little cafe is tucked away in the Bridgeport neighborhood so it can be hard to find but worth the trip! Their chicken parm is easily the best dish on their menu but there's so many good options it's hard to pick recommendations. This is a BYOB restaurant so I suggest bringing a bottle of wine or 2 and enjoying great Italian cuisine on the Southside!

Yelp
I don't understand all the rave reviews about this place. We decided to check it out because this place got such great reviews, and we were in the neighborhood. Mannaggia, I left my bottle of wine at home as I didn't plan on coming here. Anyway, I tried the arrancini as an appetizer and the clams over linguini in white wine sauce as an entree for lunch. The arrancini was ok, but I prefer other places that specialize in arrancini in my neighborhood. The pasta was kind of bland and overcooked. They gave a large portion that I couldn't finish and it wasn't tasty enough to finish. The groceries they have on the shelf is kind of interesting, but it's not really something that I would consider unique. You can go to Caputo's and buy a lot of this stuff at about 25-40% less than what they are charging here. Just saying. I visit Italy at least 1 a year, and to me, the food is made to the American palate. It is another restaurant in Chicago that all' Americano. Che schifo.

Yelp
Went to Gio's twice in a week's time. That's how great it is! Believe the hype - it is an authentic Italian restaurant with a deli and Italian grocery store. The food is the real deal - delicious, fresh, authentic and gigantic portions. It is a no frills restaurant that doesn't look like much - but give it a chance to blow you away. The first time we ordered an appetizer of sauteed escarole and white beans and the mushroom risotto, both the dishes were specials for that day. The food was too much for 2 of us, we had leftover risotto enough for dinner the next day. The escarole and beans was stellar - it sounds like a simple dish but it was sooo good. The risotto was delicious as well. The second time we ordered the goat cheese bruschetta and got two sides - sauteed broccoli and the polenta with marinara - YUM !! The polenta was soo good and the broccoli was finger licking good. We just grabbed a box of their spumoni from their grocery selection and took it to go. It was fantastic! Come here to be surprised by how good their food is and take a few Italian groceries home.

Yelp
Travelled to Chicago for quick up and back for one day, wanted to try authentic Italian in their Little Italy before we left and a local recommended this to us. Soooo glad!!! We would've never known this was a restaurant nor the INCREDIBLE food!!! Backstory - my moms side is from Sicily, I've grown up with authentic handmade Italian food and this felt like taking me back to corner of Italy just in a corner of Chicago neighborhood. I stocked up on imported sauces, pastas & oils - LOVE this place! If I didn't live 13 hours away, this would be my husbands and my date place every time. For our strict budget too, this was a HUGE win!!! Large portions and price is right. Mouth waters from moment you step inside, homemade bread delivered with refreshments full whole time. Staff are helpful, sweet, food bar none, worth it. Atmosphere is casual, in a deli & mini store like setting but super cute and known locals we saw know to BYOW. Can't wait to come back! had a love affair last night, and it was at Gio's.

Yelp
The food is delicious!! Everything is fresh tasting and made to order. My friends and I each ordered a dish to share. It was all sooo good. The tiramisu was to die for but not very tasty as a leftover. Alcohol was too strong for me. If you like arancini rice balls, they do not disappoint!! For the price and the size it is well worth it. A stand alone meal. It's a must try!! I will be back.

Yelp
Love this place. Neighborhood corner joint with a bit of deli and a few tables. I always get the sausage and peppers but my husband gets other stuff and loves. I'd rather not more people know about this place but like them so much had to write a review.

Yelp
Trying our best to shop small and local even in other neighborhoods. So, when I had to be in Bridgeport and saw this little place that reminded me of the fantastic deli and grocery store on my childhood corner, I stopped. The frozen sauce was delicious and the meatballs were very good. We enjoyed the tiramisu and will definitely go back.
