The Best Pizzas in Austin

"Believe it or not, there is some truly great pizza to be had inside this Valero station. The location is not fancy, but the menu is robust and includes appetizers, salads, pastas, Stromboli, and desserts in addition to the personal-sized thick crust pies. Gluten-free crusts are available, too. Get it for takeout or delivery online." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
Tasty pizza place in South Austin, that's attached to a gas station, that a friend introduced me to. Nice, dog-friendly seating in a covered patio. The pizza was flavorful and they gave my dog, Bogart, some grilled chicken, which he gobbled up happily. 😋 🍕

Google
The pasta is spectacular and the pizza is delicious. I highly recommend this place to eat. It has a quiet atmosphere and excellent service.

Lisa Gordon

Google
My pizza was really good. Asked for extra cheese but didn’t really get much cheese at all. Over all pretty good

Harper

Google
So delicious and so fast!! I’m happy with coming here on a quick break. I got to try the soup of the day and it was amazing! Bruschetta and meatballs were delicious.

Shawn Andrew

Google
Some of my favorite pizza since they opened. Wood fired. Owner is awesome chef. Pastas and salads are fresh and delicious.

Karen Arana

Google
The tacos in the morning and fresh and good. They have a big selection. My only complaint is I wish they would use regular containers for salsa. They put the salsa in teeny tiny ziplock usually used for other things let’s just say… and makes it hard to not make a mess. The smell also seeps through the bag

Chris Saunders

Google
Do not let the location fool you, Giovanni’s has the best pizza in the South Lamar area. The crust is light, fluffy and crisp with a hint of sourdough. Their main style is thin but not like flat bread. The ingredients are always fresh, production is fast and the staff is very nice. This is the go to pizza for all the neighbors in this area.

Google
Pizza was good, not great. Certainly not with $15. I’d choose dominoes next time.

Yelp
Love it. Feel like the last 12 years. I've been coming here. I will argue with you all day long about this pizza. Maybe I just love getting pizza out of gas station but listen this is some of the best pizza in the city. This is more of an old-school type of ordering system. Reminds me of Home. Call and place your order and go pick up. The gas station has a ton of great beer. So do yourself a favor and get a couple of six packs while you're in the store. They do have an area where you can sit and eat, but this is mostly a pick up joint. Really though, out of all the spots in the city I come back to this one time and time again. Fair pricing and the food is exceptional.

Noe H.

Yelp
Amazing place! The pasta is a real delight I totally recommend you eat here and don't say the pizza is incredibly delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
It's not bad for corner store pizza. However, I literally had better frozen pizza the day before.. They have an old school pizza oven, and make and toss their own pizza dough. Thats where it all ends. We ordered by the slice, and the dough was tough and not crispy as others have reviewed. Also, my wife ordered a salad. The veggies weren't fresh and crisp as they should be. They are old and rubbery, especially the cucumbers and tomatoes. This place is overhyped.
google avatar

Kyle D.

Yelp
Well damn that was a great pizza! Don't be fooled as it's inside a gas station! I've smelled it for many years visiting the gas station and finally brought one home tonight. Delicious!!
google avatar

Clint L.

Yelp
Always the best, you wouldn't believe it as a gas station pizza place, but like everyone else says this pizza is the best for the money around.
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
This is a solid pizza! It's better than most local pizza places and def better than the chain pizzas. The pizza dough was thin and crispy. We placed an order online. There's a separate counter inside the gas station for orders and pick up. We grabbed some beverages inside the gas station and enjoyed our pizza on the outdoor side patio. Note: It's located about 2 miles from Zilker park, so I can certainly see picking this up along with some drinks for a quick picnic at the park.

Yelp
Outstanding little kitchen in a Chevron Gas station! You can't go wrong with their pasta dishes !!
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
Pizza place in a gas station, with some pretty decent seating outside on a deck! Interesting setup that i think works well. The pizza and pasta were both relatively inexpensive, and the portions were generous. I don't remember exactly which pasta i got, but i remember liking it more than the pizza. Though, the pizza wasn't disappointing in the least! Great place to have in the neighborhood for some affordable Italian food!

Yelp
The only reason why I cannot give Giovanni's (and many other pizza joints) is that it is difficult to compete in quality against pizza places in our old city that regularly feature among the top pizza shops in the USA. Then again, this is central TX, home of smoked brisket, CFS, breakfast tacos, and kolaches. Not pizza. Giovanni's is probably, outside of mass market delivery pizza and Costco pizza, the best value pizza we've found in Austin. It is a well executed thin crust pizza at an OK price point. I've tried other places in Austin that arguably make better pizza, but my credit card feels like it's about to cry after eating at said places for maybe slightly better pizza.

Angel C.

Yelp
I stopped in for a couple of tacos. The tacos reminded me of what I would get at mom's house or from my grandma's. They didn't hole back on ingredients. The salsa is addictive. I guess that why they use little plastic bags. Definitely be back.

Ayanna T.

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem. The pizza is wonderful and is pretty consistent. Their pastas are pretty good too.

Timothy S.

Yelp
Website said store was open, so I placed an order online. I had a hard time finding the place because it's in a gas station. What!?There wasn't anyone working behind the counter, and a lady behind the gas station counter said she didn't know why or when they would return. Never going to waste my time at this crappy place.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped by Giovanni's before a girls' pizza night. I read the reviews and had to check this place out myself. It's a pizza shop inside a gas station. I ordered online. We got a large (15") pizza, half Meat Lovers and half Supreme, along with the mozzarella bread. The order was ready in 20 minutes. To pick up the pizza, you go inside the gas station. The staff was friendly and efficient (and my goodness, they were busy). The pizza is phenomenal. They do not go stingy on the topping. I enjoyed the mozzarella bread, as well, but the pizza really was the star of the show. I would definitely return to try out their Hawaiian and Margherita pizza, and their pasta actually looked very good, as well.

Yelp
Dang, Giovanni's is a sneaky one! It's a five-star pizza (and salad) joint hidden away in a gas station. They're always friendly, fast, and consistent with delicious slices every time! The spicy caesar salad has a nice kick to it while maintaining the anchovy-base that we know and love. It's in my top-5 pizza places in Austin!
google avatar

Leticia E.

Yelp
Great pizza. Nice crunchy crust. If you get the Greek pizza, order it without the olive oil. It's too greasy otherwise.
google avatar

Hudson B.

Yelp
Pizza stand in a gas station but they do it right. Pizza is made to order. They do an amazing job for being in such a small space too!
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
I needed to order last minutes pizzas for my entire department. This was a last minute order and I called at 8:30am. I ended up ordering 22 pizzas and 8 salads Not only was the order 100% correct, the pizza's were delicious and ready right on time. I will definitely order again. Don't let the fact that this place is attached to a gas station fool you. Worth your time to stop buy and grab a bite. Sit at the nice tables outside or to go.
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
Giovanni s thin and crispy crust pizza, even an extra large slice. Salads and soups available. 20 minutes and pick up at outside window.
google avatar

Ann R.

Yelp
Gas station pizzas! Crust is a bit floppy but flavorful. Just limit your toppings and you'll be fine

Matthew S.

Yelp
Good food but all my orders done in the afternoon take way too long today I arrive 20 minutes after my food should of been ready and it wasn't even started yet. Nothing else in the oven so she wasn't too busy.
google avatar

Kip S.

Yelp
I'm updating my review to reflect the fact that this is fresh, made to order pizza that comes out of a gas station. It's not Home Slice, but it's damn good. Definitely worth a try.
google avatar

Shradha A.

Yelp
What an unexpected concept - pizzeria inside a convenience store inside a gas station. The gluten free pizza was good and the owner/chef was there himself pouring himself into his passion.

Gilbert R.

Yelp
Been a customer for years. Don't be fooled by appearances, one of the best pizzerias in Austin. Julio, Javier and the rest of the crew are the best! Their food is delicious!

Lauren C.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem! Great service and great pizza! It's in a gas station which is why I didn't try it sooner! There's seating outside which is nice if you don't want to take it away.

Yelp
Good pizza. Crust was crisp, but a little too tough. Sauce and cheese very good. Convenient location near our friends house, so an easy spot to pick up and head home. Saturday night service was slow for pick up. They said 30 minutes, but 40+ later had to wait for pick up. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
This is one of those places yelp reviewers got really, really wrong. There is no way this place deserves 4 1/2 stars. The pizza is as flat and as hard as cardboard, dripping with grease and made with very cheap ingredients. The crust is too hard to chew. I ordered pickup through yelp and was given a pickup time in 20 minutes. I arrived ten minutes after that time, and there was a woman sitting there counting money with another woman. I said "how's it going?" And she said nothing and continued counting money for minutes. Didn't even look at me. Eventually a friendlier young guy came and asked my name. 10 minutes later, he returned with my pizza. He said that'll be 13 dollars, I told him I paid online, he said ok. Anyway, do not trust these reviews. Even if someone says "I'm from New York so I know good pizza!" Is total BS. I've been to NYC and that is insulting to compare this place to there. At 13 bucks for a large, it was a ripoff. Two people can easily eat one as it's so thin and has a small circumference. The quality is on par with a 5 dollar pizza from 7-11. Save your money and drive south to Pinthouse pizza for the real deal. Or just get a frozen pizza, anything would be an improvement over this.

Yelp
Yelp led me to Giovanni's and wow! So good! I got the White Pizza and let me just say that this is what you want to order. My mouth is watering as I type this in remembrance... I can't wait to bring my husband here. He's still in denial that gas station pizza could be this good and I can't wait to prove him wrong ;)

Samantha T.

Yelp
The pizza is great but the mozzarella bread was lackluster. I'd absolutely get pizza there again!
google avatar

Mullet R.

Yelp
Nice people, but how in the world anyone thinks this place is worth more than 2 or 3 stars is beyond me. Honestly Digiorno is better and about 75% cheaper. Is it better than 7-11s pizza? Sure. Is it worth the money? Definitely not.

Yelp
Never thought I'd say this, but Garage Station Pizza tastes pretty damn good! I was quite impressed with everything @ Giovanni's. It was the perfect storm of quality food in an efficient and timely manner, well priced, and accommodating customer service. I've been wanting to try these guys out for a year now so I made the slight detour after a quickie @ the Barton Creek Mall and I was there in no-time. I could not find the place, driving back and forth, then I read the Yelp Tips - - "inside Valero". Ahh, my bad. I look over the menu and everyone's recommendation was the White Pie w/ Sausage & Spinach. Wow, sounds nice, so I ask the guy for his feedback and he agrees. I like variety and didn't want to overload on the alfredo sauce, so I asked if he could do half-n-half w/ their veggie version (aka "4 Seasons") - - no problem! The jumped right on it and my pizza was out of the oven in about 15 minutes. It looked great, and he even asked me how crispy would I prefer the crust. He also wasn't done with it just yet, they took the pizza to the stove where there was a saucepan containing hot alfredo sauce whipped up just for me. It smelled so good as he drizzled the hot alfredo over half of the pie. That's a first for me - - I've seen alfredo used as a base as it goes on first but he said "no, this way is better". I was just glad they didn't have a huge tub of old alfredo sauce w/ a big ladle like those cafeterias and school luncheons do. I forgot to ask to add garlic - - no problem, he added it on for me and even asked if I wanted my hot pizza topped off w/ fresh parmesan cheese instead of the grated - - hell yeah! More cheese please! What excellent customer service! I couldn't resist and wait until I got home so I planted my ass on one of their picnic tables outside and gave it a shot - - oh my, it was superb! Tasted exceptionally well, piping hot, the alfredo was so creamy good and I loved the sausage. The 4 Seasons was also great, my veggies were piled up high as they don't skimp on the good stuff here. The crust is thin and on the crispy side, it was just an overall great tasting pizza. Kudos for for being on this side of town but keeping their prices reasonable and comparable to the product they offer. I scanned through their flatscreen display to see pics of the pastas - - wow, they all looked so damn appetizing! He said they were very popular and gave me a couple of recommendations, it's $8 for a good sized serving w/ garlic bread which sounds perfect to me. I will definitely have to make my way back to Giovannis - - everything tasted so great and the customer service rocked!

Sandra R.

Yelp
This place is solid pizza and pasta!! Margarita is the best!! Chicken fettuccine Alfredo is amazing!! I have been here many many times in last few years - never disappoints!!
google avatar

Nicholas L.

Yelp
So good! Ordered pickup, too only 20 minutes. Pizza was fresh out the oven. I ordered the Calabrese and the flavors worked well together. Crust has a nice crunch as well. Perfect combination in the Valero gas station which also has unique selection. I will only order my pizza from here now supporting a hard working business owner who is friendly towards customers and has passion for his product.
google avatar

Allison K.

Yelp
Y'all are S L E E P I N G on this spot if you haven't gotten pizza here. Margherita pizza is garlicy delicious and super flavorful! The gas station market that it's inside of has a great wine selection so it makes nights in yummy and really convenient!
google avatar

Yelp
We happened upon this place years ago and every few months we just have to have our Giovanni's Pizza fix. Don't let it deceive you - it is located in a Valero. It's actually a plus because the Valero itself is a pretty nice one. If you forget to call ahead and have to wait for them to finish your food, they've got a pretty nice (and huge) selection of wines, beers, etc to peruse and maybe have with your meal. Linguine Alfredo w/ Chicken - what got me stuck on this dish was the garlic alfredo sauce. I really like garlic and it was so garlicky some may say it was too much but it was perfect to my taste. Over the last few times I've ordered it, it doesn't seem as garlicky - but still good. The chicken, depending on the day, may be a little on the dry side. Also, I do add a little salt to the dish when I get home. But, all this said, I still think it is worth having every once and a while. Pizza - we usually order it pepperoni or meat lovers style. I'm actually impressed by their in house pizza. I don't feel the bread is too thick or greasy. The meat lover's comes w/ a good amount of meat on top as well. It's not gourmet pizza but it's pretty good for a stand in a gas station, I'd rather order from here than those fast food pizza chains.

Yelp
Their pasta dishes are AWESOME! Huge, delicious, hot portions. I eat their meatballs like once a week. Can't beat the prices either.

Yelp
OCCASION: Dinner (Large Pie of Cheese Pizza) Food: 4/5 Drink: NA Environment: 2/5 Service: 5/5 Price: 5/5 Overall: 4/5 PROS: - good thin crust NY style pizza - Really good deal - If you miss that Eastcoast unhealthiness, you gotta try. - I really liked how they made pizza bit salty CONS: - wait could get long. Try avoid rush hours - Weird location. Its within a gas station convenience store so people might get confused at first. - there are few tables outside but the place doesn't offer comfortable environment to enjoy their amazing pizza. - My friend thought pizza was too salty. CONCLUSION: - I would recommend this place for a pick up. - Quality to price ratio is really amazing.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
I don't eat dairy. I decided to eat pizza. This place was the bomb!!! Granted, I haven't had pizza in soo many years..... but this tasted amazing. Like orgasm after every bite. How do I live without pizza in my life? The margarita was simple yet flavorful and definitely satisfied the craving. The ceaser salad was not as good as I would have hoped. Very light dressing that you could hardly taste it and it was orange? Best part - it's in a gas station and easily accessible.

Daniel T.

Yelp
There's a lot of delicious pizza places in Austin, but this is my favorite. Their pizza ALWAYS hits the spot. The best part? You pick up your pies from a little window on the side of a gas station. It's especially a plus right now with this whole pandemic ish; you don't have to stand inside next to "people." You STAY winning. Jalapeños, Pepperoñi, sausage, garlic, and red oñioñs for the win! Haha, made myself laugh.
google avatar

Brad C.

Yelp
Between this and Toss I don't know who I'd pick. I met this guy when he had one of the first food trucks in ATX and would talk to him routinely about leasing space as they rebuilt and rehabbed that Valero. Worked out well, you think. Secret is that oven. And of course fresh ingredients. Now they have bfast tacos in morning and Sammy's for lunch. Staple is still the pizza though. I'm hungry thinking about it :) Favorite? He makes everything to order so can't go wrong although I really like pep, black olive and shrooms. Parking is easy as this is a gas station with a parking lot. He even has a sitting area for outdoor eating if you can last that long... So grab some bevy's and anything else you need from the mart inside. I like skittles for desert
google avatar

Sanoj N.

Yelp
Let me down with their generic toppings that tasted like it came frozen. Crust had the consistency of cardboard. I remember them being better and hope this time was a fluke or they start trying again.

Meredith W.

Yelp
I love love love giovannis. We have been coming here for years and will continue to support!! The pizza is delicious and my favorite pasta is the penne arabiata with chicken and veggies
google avatar

Bill K.

Yelp
I have been told by countless people that this place was the "best pizza ever". Seriously? I ordered a 10 inch veggie online. I was sitting in the parking lot, so I cruised the beer choices while I waited. The app told me when it would be ready. I did walk by and check to see if it was ready. It was sitting in the pizza stand, getting cold. The guy put it in the box and handed it to me. I get to my car and can not wait to try it. I open the box and take a slice. First of all, the veggies were cut so thin that they were almost wilted because they cook the pizza at such high temperature. They are skimpy on veggies and cheese. The dough is too "thick". The pizza was just "ok". I have had way better. This place is NOT the best pizza, nor is it "runner up". I will give it honorable mention because they tried. I was very disappointed and expected great quality and I got over cooked, thick crust, skimpy veggies that were wilted and lack luster flavor.
google avatar

Lianne S.

Yelp
Bitch, I'm from New York! These other NYers in my complex whispered in my ear about this place and it holds up. Plus, the guys who work here are the tops. They're always so nice. I never thought I could get a nice-a pizza pie from the back of a gas station bodega, but Texas will always shock you in good and bad ways! Give these guys your business!

Yelp
Stop driving by looking for the food trailer - it's inside the Valero! So many times I drove by the sign that said Giovanni's pizza and I would always look really hard for the food trailer by the Valero. It wasn't until recently when I read they were inside the Valero. I decided to check this pizza stand out on my lunch break. I really had no idea all that was going on at this Valero. Giovanni's was actually really busy too. People were consistently coming in to pick up their pizzas. I decided to order my usual pizza - pepperoni and pineapple. I was told it would take about 15 minutes to make. So I wandered the store and discovered the awesomeness of everything going on here. My pizza was ready and I took it over to the side of the building and sat on the covered deck. The pizza looked great! As I ate it I admired the crust. It was on the thin side, but not too thin. It was cooked well and all the way through. The sauce was on the lighter side for my liking, but still it was delicious! I loved the toppings were fresh and tasty too! With this place so close to my daily routine I will be back to try it again. I am absolutely a new fan of Giovanni's!
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
I work a couple doors down from this Valero. The first time I tried this pizza, it tasted familiar but was lacking sauce. To me anyway. The next few times I had it I asked for extra sauce. Since then this has become our go-to pizza for the family. We used to be Home Slice regulars (which is still awesome) but you can't beat the taste, price, and convenience combo. I get my pizza here, my bagels from Wholy Bagel, my chinese from Din Ho, and unfortunately, steam the White Castle's myself from the supermarket freezer. There used to be a Carvel in the Schlotzky's down the street, but it was changed to something else. You get the idea. - ex Long Islander

Yelp
Great, reasonably priced pizzas inside a Chevron gas station/convenience store. Owner is always there. Convenience store has good selection of wine n beer to go with the pizza. Small outdoor patio if u want to eat there
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
NOTE: Yes, this is a counter inside a convenience store. I've never seen the owner not looking like the happiest pizza-maker in the whole world. I've never had a pizza here that I wouldn't recommend highly to my best friend. They still offer pizza by the slice. Large slices. I believe $2 for cheese. There is never a long wait. There is now Wi-fi for the few minutes you may have to stand around, if you didn't call ahead. There is an above-average beer and wine collection you can browse in the convenience store if you want to kill time a bit that way. But the reason for the updated review: There is now a gluten-free crust option, so now my wife can enjoy Giovanni's. My last visit, I even ordered it without her just so I could make sure it was good enough. He partially bakes the GF crust alone so it can have more structural integrity. Then, he adds the topping(s) and bakes it the rest of the way. Giovanni's GF pizza will have a crispier crust, but is proof that a pizza's crust is often just the vessel that a great sauce and good toppings shine through. 4.8 stars

Yelp
I was absolutely ravenous when I stopped by here today. No breakfast. longish meeting. Now it was around 12:15 PM. I even briefly considered ordering an entire pie and chowing down on it myself. I know when I finally do that, judging from the spectacular menu choices and the fast and friendly service today, Giovanni's will earn the 5th star. I settled on 2 slices. And they were massive! They nearly filled up an entire pizza box, so it was pretty much like killing a whole pizza anyway! My toppings of choice were pepperoni and jalapeno. Delicious, thin, crunchy yet foldable. I had more jalapenos on those slices than I have had on whole pizzas from the big 3 chains before! The slices were ready in mere minutes. I barely had a chance to look at the very well-stocked beer case. Many different selections here that go way beyond a typical Valero. The wine in front of Giovanni's area looked great too. Perhaps he (and I am not sure if the owner's name is actually Giovanni!) has personally selected these bottles to go with his pizzas? Also of note - plenty of HFCS free Mexican Coke and Dublin Dr Pepper! I was able to pay for my pizza and DP at the Valero cash register using a debit card. Probably cash is best though. I devoured those two pieces of pizza in the car and didn't even care I had some hot grease fall on my pants. I was THAT famished. And now it's almost 6:30 and I am using all my superpowers not to trek all the way over there again today!

Yelp
I kissed a pie and I liked it, the taste of her garlic chapstick. I kissed a pie just to try it, I hope my boyfriend don't mind it. It felt so wrong, it felt so right, don't mean I'm in love tonight. I kissed a pie and I liked it, I liked it. Went here today to check out what the yelpers were talking about. This is some stellar pizza! You go up to the Valero and ask Giovanni for the ingredients you want. I picked onion and mushrooms and I got a side salad to boot. $6.25 for a large slice that is garlicky, warm, made to order and thin crust. I added a little italian seasoning, hot pepper and parm provided by Giovanni. It is the kind of pizza that you fold in half to eat. Nice and crispy where it is supposed to be and a little greasy and soft in the middle. I even had to eat the end crust. YUMMY! Note: You can get any size fountain drink for .99 cents from Valero and they have a little iddy biddy area to sit on stools and eat. Giovanni said they are working on getting a patio outside.
