An International District mainstay for New York–style slices and whole pies since the late ’80s, Giovanni’s carries deep neighborhood roots. Local news chronicled its heartfelt reopening, underscoring its place in the community.

Great service very nice folks. Had there cheese slice and and slice with sausage. Cheese slice is a 7.9 very good great crispy slice. With sausage a solid 8.3. The sausage has a strong flavor mixing very well with the sauce and cheese. The slice is hot n crispy which I love. Definitely will be back it’s very good pizza. Yes I’m judgy cause I’m from Chicago. Lol.

I’ve been coming here for years! Giovanni’s always hits the spot for some great pizza. Friendly staff, the restaurant definitely teleports you and doesn’t feel like you’re in Albuquerque. Highly recommend to come and check out Giovanni’s.

I don't know how I missed this place for so long because it's definitely by far the best pizza I've ever had anywhere in New Mexico and possibly anywhere outside of the New York City / New Jersey area. True, it's in a terrible neighborhood, but when we went on a Sunday night there were no fewer than FOUR police cars parked right outside and a whole bunch of them eating dinner in the restaurant. It was just my son and I and we had no difficulty polishing off an 18" large pie with pepperoni, mushrooms, and black olives. Perfection on a plate; the mushrooms were unusually flavorful and the pepperoni delightfully crispy on the edges. The crust was delicious and there was just the right amount of oil. Even the crushed ice in the coke was noteworthy. My only very slight complaint is that the Coke had a faint hint of Dr Pepper, which is definitely not a good thing. There was a fair amount of take out going on which is always a good sign. Decor is fascinating. Six stars warranted.

I used to live with my Grandma up on Kathryn & Kentucky when I was a kid and I never knew about this place. I had been wanting to try it and went over there and the food was awesome and the atmosphere was heartwarming and peaceful. I will definitely go back again. Also I dont remember the kids name but he went out of his way to tell my wife and I a story about a picture of his family in the restaurant. He was very polite. You don't see much of this anymore.

I heard about New York style pizza place and I wanted to try it. Place is clean and old fashioned and walls are full of photo frames. We tried 3 different slices to get a better idea. Slices were just fine, crust was crispy and not too salty not too fatty. To be honest I can’t call it “Real” New York style pizza in Albuquerque, you should try Rumors to see the difference. In general I liked this place and give them 4 ⭐️.

Google
From small to large orders, this is the place to go for pizza in ABQ! We got pizza for 58 people. Ordered a couple days ahead. It was ready right on time, cooked to perfection, and carried out to the car with a smile. One big 18” pizza with toppings feeds 6 people if you’re wondering. Probably 5 people if it’s just cheese.

Google
So, place is awesome, has a great pizza place feel and vibe and swag all over the walls. Cooks washed hands before handling the food and the manager was very friendly.....and that's about as good as it got. The pizza wasn't flavorful, it was good but not what was said about it by all the reviews and the cheese bread was also delicious but the marinara sauce tasted like strait tomato paste, no salt,.no seasoning....nada and that's what ruined it for us. Maybe next time

Samim Shirzada

Google
It's similar to Dion's pizza. But Dion is green chili, kind better. When I got my green chili, it seemed like I got cheese pizza, and instead of green chili pizza.

Yelp
I would say this is the best NY style pizza I have had in New Mexico. Hands down, the dough has been adapted perfectly to the low humidity and high altitude of Albuquerque and the resulting pies are spot on. Prompt attentive service from staff coveting both back and front of house combined with a retro fifties diner feel set the stage for an afternoon of NY style pizza dining excellence.

Yelp
I rarely eat pizza and I'd never consider putting pineapple on a slice either, however, one day, I was curious and put the question out on Facebook. Where can I go to get pineapple on a pizza slice? A FB friend recommended this joint. Us New Yorkers refer to these places as joints. I pulled up to an empty parking lot and empty joint. Hmmm. Does anyone come here? I took a chance. After I ordered my slice with pineapple and the highly recommended Canadian bacon on it, the place started to fill up. I mean from the parking lot to the counter, folks of all ages & cultures were lined up to place their orders. Def reminded me of NYC where all kinds of folks lived and ate together. On the walls were framed pictures and memorabilia of MY old New York: the Statue of Liberty, the NY subway system and a few Broadway show programs. Did I like my pineapple slice? Yes I did. Did I feel guilty about offending my Italian family of Sicilians and Calabrese back in Little Italy in lower Manhattan? Not at all. But I was warned! I still love my cheese and/or pepperoni and will go back to order that.

Yelp
straight up amazing pizza. i've had pizza all over the US, including nyc and chicago, and this has gotta be in my top 5. abundant toppings, crisp delicious crust, and top notch flavor. the green chile was amazing on top. service and ambiance were awesome too. i loved all the stuff on the walls and spent the whole time looking around at it all. if i were local, i'd be here every weekend. another nice touch that i love in a pizza place, was the self serve parm, red pepper flakes, and oregano. highly highly recommend.

Yelp
Got an 18" pizza with $3 each extra toppings of mushrooms, onions and bell peppers so $9 worth of extras, and this is all we get??. My family owns a food truck and have done wood fired pizza for years now and this is not the type of customer service thats expected and we'd never give or even worth $9. If anyone wants lots of toppings do not go here.

Marie M.

Yelp
We are originally from New York but have lived in the west/southwest most of our adult lives. This is the best pizza we have found west of the Hudson. The person who said the slices sag probably hasn't been to New York. That's how it should be. Crisp and gooey at the same time.

Hope V.

Yelp
$3 Per Toppings!! NOT worth it!! Mini Bell Pepper, Onions & a few mushrooms. I'd suggest you only get 1 topping pizza here for the price. If you love delicious good priced pizza, I'd suggest to go to Rio Rancho to Aldo's New York Style Pizzeria.

Yelp
This was our first time having pizza from here. We got the Supreme pizza. It had a good crust and plenty of toppings. It took about 20 minutes on a Thursday evening, so not bad as far as wait time. Yummy overall!

Yelp
I have never heard of this place, 1st time to ABQ & I'm looking for a good pie & I read the reviews & a gentleman said it's close to PEPES of New Haven New Haven , Yale New Haven Hospital. Is where I come from & if he's comparing it the Pepe's it's got to be worth the try! & I will be back to let you know
google avatar

Damarion R.

Yelp
This is terrible the crust is like a burnt cracker and the pizza is the most expensive I've seen here almost 20 dollars for a small 1 topping pizza and there small A 12in PIZZA that's suuuuperrr then Mario's a lot better tho the prices are on the higher end there the pizza justifies it only reason I'm not leaving a 1 star review is because the staff was nice

Tom W.

Yelp
Talk about great pizza, this place gives Pepe's and Sally's of New Haven a run at best pizza

Charles H.

Yelp
The flavor is excellent, but the slices lack the crisp, sturdy structure of an authentic New York slice -- they tend to sag under their own weight. That said, for New Mexico, this is one of the best slices in the state. I love this place!!

Yelp
We had just come off of a hike up in the mountains and had been caught in a storm so we're soaked to the bone. We were late getting to the restaurant so we weee concerned they would shut down the oven before we got there but they are true old school and never missed a beat. Took our order for two 12" pizzas and never checked up even though it was almost closing. Definitely old school local place. Decor is retro with old flyers from past ballon events and movie posters. Near place. Joe had the meat lovers and I had a Hawaiian. Absolutely delicious. We ate them all. Yes unfortunately even me. Awesome and highly recommend.

Yelp
Pizza is very good! There's a reason they're in the top 50 pizza places in the USA. Only negative is location. It's the only reason for not giving 5 stars. Definitely get their pizza, calzones and other awesome food but stay vigilant because the zombies are very nearby.

Yelp
My boyfriend's from Albuquerque and was craving Giovanni's when we came to visit his family. We picked up two pizzas and took them to a local brewery for lunch. It's NY style, which isn't usually my favorite pizza because I prefer a thicker crust, but I must admit that this pizza was great! Service was quick for pick up and the restaurant, while a hole in the wall of strip mall, has a certain quaint charm to it.

Yelp
Shortly after I moved here, and the pandemic lockdown hit, I wanted to get some treats for the nurses at a hospital where one of my dear friends works (I'm a RN too). I was looking for a place and found Giovanni's so I gave it a try. I've been in NY and had pizza and this was definitely NY pizza! I was even able to fold it like it's supposed to be. The staff, owner included, were very nice and knew what they were doing. I enjoyed hearing the owner's story of how he came here and started it. It's a small place and nice and quiet. It was nice not to be in a sea of humanity! I decided while waiting to have a slice and it was huge! It wasn't all doughy like some, and the toppings were just right and cooked well. It's on my top 5 list for pizza! Pizza is my all time favorite food, so I am pretty picky, and Giovanni's made the cut (pun intended!).

Yelp
Pulled into town for a concert, the city is trash but Jesus Christ this place is a diamond in a really rough rough area. Best pizza and it was definitely worth the 8 hour drive.
google avatar

Yelp
Talk about stepping back in time - this reminds me of some of the places I've been to in the NE. Small family owned places serving up Italian food. The walls are covered with NY style memorabilia and old playbills. Got here just before the lunch rush, placed our order: a slice of Canadian Bacon/pineapple (how boring - but I couldn't come up with anything better) and the chicken wrap and the wait begins. Our food arrives the slice is decidedly NY Style. Thin & foldable. Covered in ground Canadian bacon and a decent amount of pineapple. The slice came with a minimal amount of sauce and cheese. The chicken wrap was another story, it was about 6" bigger than the counter person demonstrated. So the slice gets eaten and the wrap will probably make 2 more meals. It looks like a calzone, loaded with cubed chicken & cheese - easy on the sauce. The slice & wrap were delicious. Making this a place deserving of another trip.

Yelp
My husband has been raving about Giovanni's for a while now, today I finally got to try it. I got me a supreme pizza w a large salad and he got a cheese pizza. Holy smokes! This is the best pizza I've had in decades. I cannot have pizza from any other place ever again. We drove half an hour to get there and it was well worth it. Their pizza is perfection. I have no words. The salad is your regular pizzeria salad, but the lettuce isn't wilted or pink, it's green and crisp. Fresh tomatoes, olives, and peppers. You can tell this place cares for the quality of their ingredients all around. The supreme pizza is perfectly balanced with all the toppings, the crust, the sauce. I give this place 10 stars and will absolutely be going back for more. Most importantly, the place is clean. We took our order to go but I would definitely eat there next time.

Yelp
My family discovered this spot YEARS ago when traveling through Albuquerque on our way to California to see family and since that time (cr. 2010?) we have tried to order from here whenever we pass through town. This evening was no different and the pizza was fantastic. If you're traveling with your family and want an easy and delicious option for dinner and everyone is hangry, this is a great option. We always order and then pick up and take the pizza back to wherever we're staying and Giovanni's always satisfies.

Yelp
Reminds me of the NY style pizza places I used to go to as a kid. A winning model that feels right out of the 80s. Pizza is pretty dang good. I know taste in pizza is highly subjective to individual taste. But they have good pies and their pizza by the slice is excellent.
google avatar

Raevin R.

Yelp
I always drove by this place and finally decided to give it a try! The atmosphere was so cozy on a rainy day! I just didn't try their pizza - which I think would be the highlight of something that I feel like would make this post better - but I tried the wings and spaghetti. They were both good and comforting but not like omg good, like this is something I would make for myself at home good. Not fancy, not exciting but comforting. I definitely want to go back for their wings and maybe one day I'll try the pizza :)
google avatar

Phillip V.

Yelp
I'm glad there to participate in a piece of childhood memory for a great Pizza place. I have had NY style and Italian while stationed with the 173D. This is the best ever. Iman gave me my slice while sitting in my truck waiting for the rest. Great conversation. Will always come back.
google avatar

Dahveed P.

Yelp
the dough here is magic and they don't get skimpy with the toppings like most pizza places i've gone to lately. i'm not an east coaster but tiny birds tell me if i were this is where i would get my pizza from and i all ready am so i guess it all works out. order garlic and green chile as a topping i dare yaz. it's friggin delicious.
google avatar

P T.

Yelp
What a great pizza place. Had the New Mexican, and cannot wait to try the others. Loved the green chile and the service was amazing.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
I've been in ABQ for over 4 years and didn't realize this was so close to Kirtland. The food is excellent with a great menu. Everything you'd expect from a NY pizza place. Service is great and very quick during lunch. I like the NY vibe as well, you will not be disappointed!!
google avatar

Jerry S.

Yelp
Really good. The New Mexico pizza is my preference (chicken, ricotta cheese and green chile').
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
This was a solid spot for dinner with friends in Albuquerque. My boyfriend & I shared a 12 inch pizza and ordered it with 1/2 Canadian bacon & pineapple (my side!) and 1/2 pepperoni & onion. I thought the overall taste was slightly above average and really enjoyed the thin crust. One of our friends wasn't a fan of the cheese, which I thought was about average. My boyfriend really liked the Canadian bacon that was chopped into small pieces. The only thing missing from the pizza for me was a distinct tomato flavor - the sauce just kind of blended in. Overall, I thought this restaurant was a good choice to satisfy our pizza craving!

Catherine D.

Yelp
Food is great atmosphere is awesome loveeeeeeee their pizza this is my go to place the the most scrumptious pizza hot wings are to die for
google avatar

Charlene G.

Yelp
The food here is excellent and consistent. Always fresh and delicious. My son loves the baked ziti and cheesy bread and I love the mushroom/pepperoni pizza. I've been going for 35 years and proud to say that Rosario left a legacy that has continued through his wife and dedicated staff. It's nice to see the same employees through the years. They are treated well and are one big family. If you haven't gone there, you are missing out!
google avatar

Anye S.

Yelp
It looks like the owner passed away :(. We were coming for our yearly visit and there is just a bunch of flowers and RIP signs. How very sad! I just looked up the news and he was murdered during a robbery :(. My heart goes out to his family and the community.

Yelp
I'm a total fan of NY style pizza, so when I relocated to Albuquerque it was only a matter of time before I NEEDED to check out  Giovanni's Pizzeria.  Apparently it's appeared on national "Top 100" pizza lists multiple times. The venue is small, so more often than not you're going to have to wait for a table; the tables have red-checkered table cloths, much like you might find in NY's Little Italy.  The neighborhood Giovanni's is in isn't particularly upscale, but that only adds to the Big Apple back alley vibe :-) Enough about the venue, let's talk about the pizza!  The crust stands up to the toppings and sauce really well, so that individual slices will easily pass the "folding test".  The crust is also unquestionably NY style; it's thin and shaped exactly the way NY pizza is supposed to be shaped.    The sauce is zesty without being too spicy, and the toppings are fresh, tasty, and generously allocated. Bottom line: They really do NY-style pizza right here; if you close your eyes and take a bite you'll be transported to a very happy place while your mouth experiences a symphony of flavors that's usually reserved for locales East of the Hudson River :-)

Yelp
The pizza was fantastic- definitely on of the better pizza places in ABQ. Very direct communication, and feels more like NYC than other places, so be prepared to know what you want ahead of time- whomever took my order seemed pretty impatient with me, but since I hadn't been there, I didn't know the sizes or types of pizza yet. I liked the inside of the place as well, so would be worth dining in to see what the experience is like. I would go here again because of the high level food despite the initial awkwardness!

Bill G.

Yelp
I ordered a 15" sausage and mushroom pie for pick up. They said it would be 45 mins. I was like damn they must be busy. The place was pretty busy when I showed up to pick it up. Several large parties and a bunch of people at the counter waiting for pick up orders. It took a while. Anyhow, I finally got my order. The pizza was well cooked and had a lot of toppings. The sauce was better than most. It seemed like the cheese was a mix that may have include cheddar; which is unusual for me. All in all it was a good pie. The crust was just ok. It was supple enough to handle "the fold" but just barely. The crust wasn't chewy or crispy , but somewhere in the middle closer to crispy. I would order from them again but will continue my search for good pizza in ABQ.
google avatar

Brooke M.

Yelp
Decent pizza. We should've tried something different lol. Lasagne was good, needed a little seasoning. Breadsticks, weren't that good. They had no taste and were flat. It was fast service and friendly. Would give another try if back in ABQ.

Ana B.

Yelp
Ordered extra cheese and ended up with less than a regular portion--what a joke. The sauce was completely bland, lacking any flavor. The quality and service here have really gone downhill. This used to be my go-to spot, but after this disappointing experience, I won't be coming back. Sad to see such a great place decline so much!
google avatar

Jim K.

Yelp
This is by far the best pizza in Albuquerque! I recommend the supreme with Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Bell Peppers, Olives, Green Chile, Sausage & Onion. It's always fast and it never disappoints!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Plainly put, Giovanni's Pizza is supreme! Try it out you won't regret it! Hot quick and tasty! A+++++++++
google avatar

Donn D.

Yelp
It looked awesome and smelled great! Unfortunately it wasn't nearly as good as it looked. It just lacked a super zippy something. It wasn't bad mind you. Certainly it was better than any of the chains, but from the way it looked and smelled I had high hopes that just weren't quite met.
google avatar

Frank D.

Yelp
Best NY style pizza I've found in NM. Family owned, been here for decades. Great pies and friendly staff. Highly recommended
google avatar

Penelope A.

Yelp
Great pizza once again!! I find this place as one of the hidden treasures in Albuquerque I have enjoyed the supreme and pep with green chili. The minute you walk out of there with that hot pizza you know you are smiling from ear to ear! I will say that we have enjoyed the box of deliciousness for more than 7 years and we will keep coming back!
google avatar

Sam G.

Yelp
Searching for a Friday night takeout, we fell upon this little gem. We ordered a white pie and pesto pie. The rich and flavorful white pie, melts in your mouth and the pizza crust itself is light but still good! The pesto pie had such an immense flavor (make sure you have extra napkins) along with the finely cut mushrooms, wonderfully seasoned ground beef and some extra cheese made for a delicious Friday night choice! We decided this is definitely going to be our go-to pizza spot!
google avatar

Zahariel L.

Yelp
Great pizza every time! Friendly service. Clean location. Busy spot. On a slower day, I could imagine writing here. Did not test for WiFi, might need to use the phone hot spot.
google avatar

Rosalie G.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much on the outside, Little whole in the wall pizza place has some of the best pizza . Nice crunchy crust and the sauce is so good!. The staff is very freindly. Place has such a welcoming vibe.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
Unfortunately not a big hit for my family we're from out of town so we were looking forward to this pizza with its great reviews small location mom and pop feel i had high hopes customer service wasn't very friendly we ordered a large pizza which is definitely enough for four people cheese bread with green chili on top and hot wings which they only have one flavor buffalo crust for both pie and cheese bread are thin cheese bread was very flavorful and was probably the best thing we had the pizza was OK sauce was thin green chili was a nice touch but did upset a couple of stomachs wings needed to be cooked a little longer skin was still soft don't think we will return next time we're in town
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
Pizza order was filled correctly. The pizza was ready on time and absolutely delicious! I love their New York style pizza! Staff was friendly and the place tidy.
google avatar

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
Please stop by please order food from here. I have been going here for more than 30 years I love this place it's a hole in the wall, but don't let that fool you I ordered either the pizza or a calzone. I usually go to this place where I can just sit down and get something really good to eat.
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
After reading all the rave reviews about Giovanni's this born in Brooklyn, raised in NY guy had to give this place a try. I moved to NM in 1976 and have yet to find a pizza worthy of calling itself "NY Style." Some have tried, but none ever really got it right. For my first ever order here I stuck with a large traditional pepperoni and a large garden salad. I figured I'd test the claims straight up. The pie was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sauce to cheese ratio. And I could easily fold the slices without cracking the dough. The large salad was a healthy size that can easily feed 4-6 people as a side to a pizza or other dish and was laced with black olives, small tomato pieces and topped with shredded mozzarella cheese . Now I live almost 18 miles from Giovanni's but have no problem making that trek for this pizza. The only thing missing from their menu is some Gabagool! Fuggetaboutit!
google avatar

Corey Y.

Yelp
It has been over a year since I've eaten at a restaurant. I was pregnant and then quarantine and here I am! This is the first place I ate inside and it was amazing, not because I was so excited but because this place is legit. It's not the most glamorous setting but that's what gives it such charm and old school feel. When you go in you can see all the celebs that have been there, I'm not even going to say who so you can go check it out. There is also a Grammy winning sound studio in the same center that has hosted celebs like Mariah Carey and Snoop. (You would just never know, but it's a few doors down) Rumor has it that the original Giovanni retired awhile ago and his son took over for him. I've been going here for years and I never knew there was a change. Ok, I'm done nerding out over the brief history I know, I just feel like my food tastes richer with rich history. THE FOOD!! It's kind of a bucket list, but you need to order a large pizza! It's probably going to be the most epic pizza you will ever take home for pizza night. It is also the most amazing pizza you'll take home. I've never measured the box but it's huge! If you're a true New Mexican you'll get some green Chile on top and just know it's fresh chopped green Chile from NM! One more epic item on the menu is their calzones! I would say it's a pizza rolled up into a football! The eggplant parmigiana is delicious as well! Give everything a try! And then have another for me! Saluti! CoCo
