Pioneer Square’s Korean Steakhouse, Girin, Is Closing - Eater Seattle

"High-end Korean steakhouse and makgeolli maker Girin announced it has served its last dinner as of May 18. The respected restaurant will serve food and drinks in the bar area only until Saturday, June 1. After that, the Girin will close for good to make way for a new Japanese sushi restaurant and grill, which is projected to open in mid-June. The closure of Girin is a definitive loss for the Seattle restaurant scene. In 2016, the restaurant was a James Beard Award semifinalist in the Best New Restaurant category. Girin was one of the country’s only producers of makgeolli, the cloudy Korean rice beer. It’s long held its own among the area’s best Korean restaurants, noted for its modern twists on classic dishes like the kalguksu with squid ink noodles and japchae with Dungeness crab. The restaurant also made a slew of excellent kimchi iterations. Girin’s striking design, with high ceilings and polished wood, was another noteworthy aspect. It’s unclear whether the new sushi restaurant will keep the current interior." - Megan Hill

Girin Review - Sodo - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Girin is a pretty good choice if you’re trying to impress a date with a dinner-and-a-Mariners-game One-Two Punch. We’ve had better Korean BBQ elsewhere (like at Trove), but we still really like the food here. Plus, the space has a fancy-ish feel, with moody lighting and a literal tree planted in the lobby. All that said, it’s still casual enough that you can wear your jersey." - Aimee Rizzo

Came here for Friday night dinner date, it was a great experience! We got the chef tasting menu, and everything was fantastic! They accommodated my GF needs & did the tasting perfectly. The drink was great, steak was so delicious... You gotta try the Korean way of enjoying it! ;) The dessert... Omg, it's some custard with orange & nuts.... Totally unicorn magic! Will for sure come here again!

Tried out some of the lunch options - the food is well presented, the teobokki is unusual but very good, the bibimbap, chapjae with dungeness crab, and the side dishes are allright - it's a bit on the sour side rather than spicy - I would prefer the traditional way. The atmosphere and inside decor is amazing. I think it'll make a great place to have a group meal.

Really happy to see some decent Korean options here! Definitely has a twist on some staple dishes. The lunch “box” is a great choice! But I must say, the rice was really subpar. Overall I enjoyed it and the atmosphere is really nice! There is a fair amount of room for improvement, but I will come back again and give it another shot.

Yummy Korean fusion restaurant in Pioneer Square My favorite was the gochujang chicken wings and the ssam wraps were white yummy. I’d also recommend the ddeokbokki as well. It’s a great spot to grab a dinner before going to CenturyLink for an event or game. I’d come back again to try other items on the menu

Great meal! We got 3 smaller dishes and a main course of steak and it was plenty shared between 3 adults. Even the kiddos loved the flavors! A bit pricer than normal for me, but worth the money for the portion and taste. The service was great, would definitely return.

Great atmosphere and fusion Korean. The ssam wraps are highly non-traditional but tasty all the same.

Happy hour after 9 PM is awesome! Must try wings and baby back ribs. Pacific oysters are good also, but oysters can be pricey. These were larger than happy hour oysters in other places, and fresh.
