"In his book Sweet Invention, historian Michael Krondl calls Nakur the prince among Bengal’s moira, or traditional confectioners. The 177-year-old shop, located in a quiet north Kolkata neighborhood, is revered in the city for its sandesh, a genre of Bengali artisanal sweetmeat made with fresh chhana. The shop has innovated and expanded its repertoire of sandesh to include a mind-boggling variety of flavors, including mango, dark chocolate, mulberry, black currant, butterscotch, and so many more." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

During my Durga Puja visit to Kolkata, I had the chance to stop by Girish Chandra Dey & Nakur Chandra Nandy, and it was an unforgettable experience! The shop has been around since 1844 and is known for its traditional Bengali sweets, especially sandesh. The place was packed with people, and you could feel the festive energy. I tried their famous sandesh and rasgullas—both were incredibly fresh and delicious. The shop itself has an old-world charm with its wooden counters and vintage feel. If you're in Kolkata, especially during Durga Puja, this is a must-visit to experience the true taste of Bengali sweets

One of the oldest sweet shop in kolkata... It's a nostalgic place, where you can get unique and delicious sweets. In my opinion it's overpriced and taste wise you can get like that in many local shop, nothing special about taste.

I just loved the place , their Sandesh is the main highlight. I visited from Assam just to admire Kolkata’s authentic Sandesh and trust me I didn’t get disappointment. I tried every Sandesh flavour and their names are so sweet Parijaat, Mousumi, Jolbhora, Butterscotch sandesh, Monohari. Must visit place to try authentic kolkata sweets.

One of the best places to try authentic hand blended Kolkata Sandesh....Starting it's journey in the mid 19th century the shop remains the same with no further renovation as such. Starting from jolbhora to coffee sandesh, this shop is a paradise for sweet lovers ❤️

Tastes good but too expensive. For trying new types of sweets, I must recommend them.

They should put rate boards in each sweet , otherwise one has to ask repeatedly for the price... The service men should wear gloves and there should be seperate person for monetary transactions. It is not good practice to touch notes n coin or swipe machine while serving food

Mind well, this is not a sweet shop. It's a legacy. You don't come here to eat sweets, but to admire the passion of 180 years. The sweets speaks for itself. Unchanged by passing times, one particular item has attracted patrons everytime. Sandesh. Nolen gur Sandesh is excellent followed by Jal Bhara. Go for it. It's located in a para, (bengali for locality). They make everything in-house.

This shop is legendary. Try and be patient when you go there. They will get to you. They are very honest about the shelf life of their products and give true recommendations about what you can/not carry home with you. The price seemed reasonable to me considering the quality and taste, might be higher than other more generic places. Other than their famous sandesh,do try their sarer singada, you won't get something like this anywhere else.
