How to Spend a Big Fat Gay Pride Weekend in New York City | Bon Appétit

"I don’t actually remember much about my first experience at Gitano—the original location in Tulum, about four years ago—but knowing me, that means it was a damn good night. So when I found out that the bar and restaurant would be coming to New York, I was eager to see how it would translate. Founder and co-owner James Gardner did not disappoint: The downtown space took over a 24,000-square-foot lot and transformed it into a tropical oasis in the middle of Manhattan. I’m headed back for more mezcal and watermelon and tomato salad doused with sweet-and-spicy chile sauce (pictured)." - ByAndy Baraghani

I have visited Gitano in Tulum at the Jungle and their last pop up the Island and I’m so excited for the new Gitano NYC location. I can’t wait!

Anniversary Dinner at Gitano NYC – 5 star worthy Vibes & Atmosphere: For our third wedding anniversary, we celebrated at Gitano NYC, and we were lucky enough to be the first guests on opening night! The place has a Tulum-inspired aesthetic, with lush greenery, soft lighting, and a stylish but laid-back vibe that made the night feel special. The music their isn’t bad too, I actually went to look up one of the songs lol Food & Drinks: The Carne Asada chimichurri with chipotle potatoes was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, but the Lobster Tostada—definitely a must-try. Drinks were strong and well-balanced, and they had some great non-alcoholic options too. If I had to nitpick, the guacamole could have used just a touch more salt and lime, but everything else was spot on. Also I love spicy food and the chef was kind enough to make this delicious sauce. Service & Experience: The service was next-level—our waitress, Tylah, and the manager, Raul ( sorry if I misspelled your guys name!) went above and beyond to make the night special, even surprising us with a free dessert for our anniversary/grand opening. Their hospitality made the whole experience even better. Looking Ahead: The restaurant is mainly indoors and super comfortable, but staff mentioned that during the summer, parts of it open up for a more outdoor feel. Plus, they’re working on a rooftop club, which we’re already excited to check out next time. Definitely can’t wait to go back!
