Essential Guide to Visiting Tulum, Mexico

"A jungle-immersed restaurant and hotel space that transforms into a nightlife destination with DJ sets and live music—particularly the Saturday 'Ceremonia' parties—offering pulsing lights, strong sound systems, and a memorable party atmosphere set back from the sand." - Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila is a bilingual travel writer, editor, and content marketer. The 12 Best Restaurants In Tulum

"Gitano has two locations in Tulum, one in NYC, and another in Dubai—a fact you’ll probably hear at least once from the table next to you. If you’re looking for a sceney dinner in the jungle, this is it: there are disco balls, a live DJ, and plenty of groups working hard to keep the party going from Gitano’s beach club across the street. Sit down, order a mezcal cocktail and a bunch of the small plates, and get a little weird with them." - barbara gutierrez, rianne shlebak

The 23 Essential Tulum Restaurants

"The vibe is the allure at this swank jungle getaway with an old-world feel that merges 17th century Mexican architecture, candlelit dinners, and overgrown palm trees and vines. The food is a blend of Mediterranean mezze, Mexican American tacos, and appetizers like quesadillas cut into acute triangles like the ones at American chain restaurants. Order a smoky, citrusy Gitano Swizzle or any of the delicious tropical mezcal cocktails, and snack away in this irresistibly hip setting." - Bill Esparza

Gitano Review - Miami Beach - Miami - The Infatuation

"This restaurant inside Mid-Beach’s Casa Faena is originally from Tulum - and it feels like the kind of place your least favorite friend would end up on vacation. Vague tropical house music plays just a little too loud over the speakers and your server might ask if you’ve had time to “discover” the menu yet. The food is luckily more tolerable than the atmosphere. The green tomatillo bowl with kale and kiwi is refreshing, the truffle tlayuda is basically just a cheesy tortilla pizza (which isn’t a bad thing), and the smoked shrimp tacos definitely aren’t worth $26, but they get the job done." - Ryan Pfeffer

I hesitated about booking this restaurant as I just assumed all the positive reviews would be paid. I was wrong and I’m so glad I did - all of the staff are extremely friendly and attentive. There was great music - disco remixes of classics from all eras, and live dancers. The food was unreal - we had birria beef tacos, tuna tostada, tabbouleh and the thalyuda - cannot fault any of them. The drinks are exceptional - we paid for the ‘open bar’ and the waiters constantly check whether you need another drink. All of them are delicious. Most of all: big shout out to José and Moises - Mexico is full of brilliant hospitality staff who go above and beyond, but these two made our night. They had perfect recommendations and were nothing but fun vibes. Muchas gracias a ambas - ¡volveremos!

This is a great saturday night - we booked online for dinner + 2hrs open bar, which is excellent value for Tulum. Jose, our waiter, was super attentive without being overbearing, and helped us make the most of the open bar! There's a great selection of signature cocktails that don't taste pre-mixed or overly juicy/sweet - just well made, good quality! The food surpassed expectations for this part of Mexico, really recommend coming here for dinner + drinks on a Saturday night

We had a good dinner at Gitano. The atmosphere was fine with vibrant music played throughout perfectly in line with the beautiful setup. Our waitress Sofia was really attentive and professional, knowing the menu inside out she could answer all our questions and make recommendations. The food was tasty. We had good options for both me (vegetarian) and my husband (non vegetarian). The cocktails were all really on the upper price level but good. Although a good dinner with a couple of dishes that had some truffles (and only a starter and a main dish each - no dessert) and despite the fact that we had three cocktails each and a glass of wine, we were a bit shocked with the final bill for two persons of over USD $500 including tip. We live in Switzerland where everything is really expensive and yet we have rarely reached such high bills for a dinner for two. So we were really surprised with the high price especially in Mexico… It left us with a bit of a bitter sweet after taste.

It was a rainstorm and we ended up in Gitano. The atmosphere was great with a great music. Our server Edmar was super nice and accommodating. I asked for some adjustments and it was no problem for Edmar. The food was very tasty! Thank you for good time!

Gitano is a total Tulum experience—equal parts upscale jungle restaurant and sultry late-night party. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere pulls you in: lush greenery, moody lighting, and candlelit tables create the perfect backdrop for a memorable night. We kicked things off with the Fish Croquets—crispy, golden bites with a rich, savory filling and a tangy dipping sauce that tied it all together. The Tuna Tostada was fresh and light, layered with cucumber, herbs, and sesame for the perfect balance of texture and flavor. And the Truffle Tlayuda? A total knockout. Smoky, cheesy, earthy, and indulgent with every bite—definitely a must-order. As the evening went on, the vibe completely shifted. Sparklers came out, the DJ turned it up, and suddenly the place was buzzing with dancing and live performers weaving through the crowd. It’s dinner that effortlessly transitions into a party—and it works. 🔔 Heads up: Gitano enforces a 2-hour time limit on tables. After that, you can move to the open bar areas or purchase bottle service to stay at your table. ✨ Pro tip: Book around 8 PM for a relaxing dinner before the jungle disco kicks off around 10 PM. If you’re in Tulum, Gitano is a must. Come hungry, stay late, and soak it all in

Food was average, overpriced and cold. They brought appetizers and main courses all together. The service was terrible, we’ve waited more than 45mins for desert, and they ended up bringing it only because we said we were leaving. The waiters were never available, it was super hard to get them. In the end THEY DIDN’T RETURN MY BOOKING DEPOSIT, I’ve contacted them to get it back and they always fooled me around with vague answers, until they stopped answering. I ended up getting my money back almost 3 months later through a complaint with my bank!
