Honestly worth going for the customer service alone but the quality was great too. The lobster tails and oysters made the best valentines date meal!

Google
Lauren - that crab soup was incredible, thank you! Giuseppe's is the best place to get fresh fish for any reason, but definitely for sushi. Can't recommend enough.

Giuseppe's fresh market is a hidden gem and the ultimate stop for seafood mavens and newcomers alike! The weekly specials keep a rotation of affordable options available - I'm talking $1 lobster tails, $10 full steamed lobster, and sea bass at 40% the Italian market prices. The oysters were diverse and sublime, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I'll definitely be coming back and recommending this to all my seafood loving friends!

Called 3 pm Saturday They close at 4:30 pm The gentleman reluctantly answered the phone. I want to place an order for pick up. He says they stop taking orders at 4 pm,and hangs up. Mind you it is 3 pm. Anyway, I have had terrific experiences there in the past,so I drive there to place my order. The woman was very nice, took my phone to place my order. So,out of shrimp, green lobster, over cooked crab cakes. They are out of their signature tomato sauce for the black squid ravioli, and she is nice enough to give me tuna balls in their sauce. They had chicken cutlets and macaroni with shrimp salad. Also qt of very salty manhattan clam chowder. We could not eat it. Again she was very nice, but not satisfied. She said ,it was the end of the day and this was what was left. Not acceptable. Didn’t care for retail sales. Also bought some chocolate pixels. From the rude phone call to the inedible food, I won’t be back.

Google
They have the most seafood available in Philadelphia. I love their snapper soup. Staff is knowledgeable and courteous. It's the retail store for Samuel's and Sons, a huge supplier of seafood to restaurants and stores

Google
Ahi tuna cheese steak is better than genos. If you want to trick your kids into eating fish this is how you do it. Awesome seafood, also great veg prices (onions, potatoes, squash) often cheaper than acme

This place is amazing. Their prices are unmatched and the employees are incredibly friendly and helpful, especially John. There's no better place to buy fish in Philly.

Yelp
I placed a review on this establishment this past Saturday, pertaining to an incident that happened to my cousin buying two bushels of crabs, one had more than 2 dozen of dead female crabs. I must commend the manager that waited on my cousins when they bought the dead crabs back, he treated them with respect and dignity, plus replaced those dead crabs plus. That is customer service at its finest.

Yelp
Fresh or frozen, it's all here! The freshest cuts of restaurant quality fish all cut and trimmed right there on the premises. Lot of prepackaged options, including Fruits De Mer brand seafood and homemade fishcakes and crabcakes just like you enjoyed from the old Ippolito's shop in South Philly.

Yelp
This is definitely a hidden gem for getting fresh seafood in Philly. I came here to order a large portion of raw fish (tuna + salmon) for a sashimi night with my friends. The people at the counter were extremely helpful and provided me with quite a few pounds of both. They brought a box for me to transport back and the process was very smooth. The fish ended up being great quality and overall a very pleasant experience for someone who's never cut their own sushi from a chunk of meat before! The only downside is that I asked for some seaweed for hand rolls and was given a non-transparent plastic box for them. I paid, brought the box home, and opened it up - turns out it was seaweed salad, and not nori sheets. I should've specified, but I thought "seaweed for hand rolls" would've been enough.

Yelp
Fresh assorted fish hand-cut to order. Amazing prepared food selections. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
This fish market is amazing! The quality of the fish and prices are a steal especially for their sushi quality fish. They offer a wide selection including tuna, salmon, lobster, caviar, crab, squid, octopus, condiments, rice, seaweed salad, panko crumbs, and many many more. The full menu with prices can be accessed on their website. The staff are also extremely kind and helpful, and the icey cold of the fish market gives the store a chill yet fun ambiance. The only downside of this location is that it is extremely far south near the distribution centers due to their connection with the major seafood distributor, Samuel and Sons. This makes it harder for customers without cars to conveniently visit.

Yelp
Omg this fish market is amazing. I am so excited for my Poke bowl tonight!! The quality looks great

Yelp
What a great place to pick up your fish and seafood favorites! Giuseppe's is located right next to the Phillies ballpark and in the Food & Fish Distribution Center Zone. It also has a connection to the legendary Ippolito's who were longtime fish and seafood purveyors in South Philly. (Yes many of Aunt Connie's dishes and sauces can now be found here.) A recent shopping expedition resulted in my buying some totally delicious fried bacalao fritters, a tasty lobster tail, three meaty salmon burgers, and a pound of frozen crawfish meat which I will use in soup or added to pasta/rice dishes. All this should last me for a little while. And the quality is excellent which is why I guess this place is so popular. I'd prob still go to Giuseppe's even if it wasn't that friendly ... but it is totally friendly. Everyone who works here is most helpful and nice. And they have free parking. Of course I'll be back ... you might want to check it out as well for your next seafood and fish dinner..

Yelp
Where the heck am I going to get fresh seafood and meat during this pandemic? Just a simple girl trying not to get torn apart at the grocery stores because people are obsessed with toilet paper or stocking up for the apocalypse *shrugs*. To answer my question, one of the few blessings that came out from this pandemic is finding myself absolutely falling in love with my local businesses and learning about their mission/story. Good bye to WholeFood and hello to Samuel seafood! I'm obsessed with the galore of seafood and farm good options for meat. I'm grateful for their leadership and partnership with sustainable sourcing and sustainability partnerships with various organizations that I researched. Ok ok aside from ethics, we all obviously care about the taste and price (more) right? And yes, SS got that covered too, you can feel good AND eat seafood that tastes like its fresh from the sea! There's also a handful of items I can never get in commerical groceries (like sashimi grade items, say what!? Thought they only exist in high end restaurant!) or without it being overpriced where you think "dang it, I can't afford that". Well good news, not at SS! Yes certain items can be pricey but never unreasonable or unfair. I find SS the best so far at providing quality, fresh, diverse, economical, and sustainable products that has kept my heart (and belly) full and filled with joy despite the pandemic circumstances. I've been buying them and delivering them for my parents, extended families, and friends who are immunocompromised but has not stopped their praises and now keeps asking for more. Not sure if the workers know my face by now, since I visit every two hours to do a pick up (half joking, but seriously...) And speaking of workers, I've never met calmer (very chill vibe) & friendlier fishmongers before that are so knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced (they gutted and cleaned the whole fish so well, cause I would've destroyed the poor thing if left on my own). Shout out to Joe, Brian, and ... Adam? I am so bad with names (I tried!). Grateful for a wonderful crew!

Yelp
Had a really great experience at Giuseppe's! Didn't know this place existed until a few weeks ago and was really excited to check it out. Came in early on a weekday morning and was pleasantly surprised with how much seafood was available to the public at a distributor I thought was only exclusive to restaurants. After a few minutes, I started chatting with Brittany who was extremely helpful - she gave me a bunch of information about the market, fresh items they had available that morning, and even showed me the other side of the market where you can purchase fresh seafood in bulk. I ended up buying some oysters, oyster chowder, and fried shrimp. Prices were extremely reasonable, and quality was fantastic. Honestly, the chowder was some of the best I've had! I'm from Long Island and my dad is a fisherman, so I was lucky to grow up eating seafood regularly. Since living in landlocked Philadelphia, I haven't been able to eat as much seafood as I would like, so finding a place that has a variety of fresh seafood at a reasonable price is super exciting.

Yelp
Awesome spot for fresh seafood!! We ordered scallops, tuna, salmon, sea bass, uni, and wagyu and everything is delicious. Will be back for sure.

Mari M.

Yelp
We walked in to find good quality raw fish for our sushi lunch at home when a staff member, Anne, noticed that we looked a little confused and provided us with friendly guidance. Everyone here is kind and helpful! A great experience for our first visit!

Peter B.

Yelp
Not a great deal. For Example, as a Seven Fish Member, today got a Leg of Lamb for Easter ($100) and a dozen oysters ($18). Those aren't exactly wholesale prices, in fact, that's really high for retail.

Yelp
This place sucks! I've been buying my seafood wholesale for years. Usually, I go to E. Frank Hopkins nearby because prices are better and service is much quicker. Today, I went here because it's open later and I wanted shrimp. I was the only customer there and still waited 20 minutes for them to tell me they didn't have what I wanted. If this were an isolated incident, I wouldn't complain. But every time I've been to this new location (as opposed to the old location), I end up standing around waiting. They act as though they're doing you a favor to wait on you. Hopkins gives much better service. All I asked for was two boxes of white domestic shrimp- something that's usually easy to get. For a seafood wholesale place, this shouldn't have been a tall order. The slow, inattentive service just reinforced my perception of past experiences with this place. I'll never come back here.

Rosina R.

Yelp
Giuseppe's Market is a real treasure here in South Philadelphia. The staff is always so warm and helpful, the quality of the product is unsurpassed, and their prepared items never disappoint. From the cole slaw, potato salad, seafood salad, salmon salad, tuna meatballs, fish and crab cakes . . . everything is always perfectly and beautifully prepared and delicious beyond words. Highly highly recommend.

Vicki K.

Yelp
One dozen DEAD crabs were included in a bushel that we purchased for party You can not tell me this was not intentional. Maybe two or three - understandable. But ONE DOZEN dead. Totally unacceptable. Enough said.

Yelp
It is totally worth the trip! A wholesale operation that sells to the public with an excellent variety of the finest fresh fish Philly has to offer. The employees could not have been nicer, or more helpful either. I enjoyed speaking to and getting tips from the test kitchen chefs. I highly recommend this place for exceptional seafood.

Yelp
Good place to pick up seafood. Always fresh. Picked up a bushel of crabs they were the best i ever had. I recommend this place for seafood.

Yelp
This place was a real find. For years I've been trying to get my hands on Hamachi, but none of the fish markets seem to carry it and won't even special order it for me. I've gone on-line trying to search sushi supply and whatnot, but I could never find anything like that in Philadelphia. Finally, I spot the Samuels & Son truck making a delivery at the local sushi joint, and I looked them up. Turns out they are open to the public! Went there last Saturday and was able to purchase a 4 1/2 lb. side of Hamachi flown in straight from Japan. I made my own hamachi sashimi and steamed rice, broiled hamachi collar and belly cut, and still had plenty of choice hamachi left to prepare a really nice hamachi ceviche. While I was down at the warehouse I asked around and they can pretty much get you whatever you can think of. You just may have to buy in larger quantities than you're used to. The smallest oyster quantities seems to be 50 counts, but at least you're getting a wholesale price, and as opposed to the local fish markets that simply label their oysters "fresh live oysters", these guys list the names of the oysters and their provenance. As I mentioned above, they seem to carry everything. I noticed they even have a selection of shucked sea urchin. This stuff is fresh. After all, this is the place that sells to some of your local fishmongers and restaurants. Kinda of reminds me of going down to the Fulton Fish Market as a kid with my Dad.

Yelp
My son told me that this place was wonderful. I was skeptical to say the least. Went in, was a typical wholesale fishmarket. We wanted Oysters, and they said what kind. I said something from Massachusetts or Rhode Island. They came back with a list of about 8 types from MA & RI. Great Whites were available, (our favourite), and we got 50 (minimum order). They were delicious, but maybe not as good as we got in RI the day before. It took a little while to get our order. The person who took our order was friendly, as was were the people where we paid. (ps the other fish they had on ice looked delicious)

Yelp
We joined the 7 Fishes Club ("Black Membership"), which is expensive, but which gets us close-to wholesale prices and daily specials. The last couple of times we went, they had soft shell crabs; we got the large ones for the same price as a restaurant would pay for them. In about 6 months of buying our fish and seafood there (and we eat a lot of that!), we have only been unhappy twice (once when the cut was sloppily done, and once when we just didn't like what we tried) -- and when we next went there and reported to them that we were unhappy, they more than compensated us for it. Not only fresh seafood, but we get our canned tuna, olive oil (incredible truffled olive oil!), kewpie mayonnaise, canned crabmeat, etc, from them at excellent prices. And whenever they have Jadori eggs on sale, we jump at the opportunity to buy the best free-range, organic, orange-yolk (so orange it's nearly red) eggs we've ever had, at the same or lower price as we pay for free-range eggs anywhere else. But to get these "bargains" you must pay for the membership. I would say that we've broken even on the cost somewhere around month 5.

Yelp
Buy a 5-pound chunk of Yellowfin and the whole 5-7 pound yellowtail fresh Hamachi and take it home for a great sushi night just have to find some good avocados and make some good rice smallest grain I can find always fresh I'd give him a 5 if they were here in Jersey just open up a small Sushi Wholesale Distributor it'll happen you are such and I'll give him five stars

Justin M.

Yelp
Great prices and service for the public. Wish I had more time to go weekly. It does take a few min to get your order filled and paid for because they really are set up for wholesale but it is worth wait if you can.

B R.

Yelp
You won't find fresher seafood anywhere else in the city. Tons of variety also. Best seafood place I've found in Philly.

Peter L.

Yelp
Am I really the first reviewer for Samuels? If you're willing to deal with the inconvenience of having to drive to the stadium complex, enter a cold room with ice littering the floor, and order your seafood from a guy in a white coat with no price list in sight and no seafood that you can check out before you buy it... this is the place for you! Because if you're willing to deal with the nuisance factor, you'll get the freshest and best quality seafood you can buy. It's coming into the port of Philadelphia and then going into Samuels and Son warehouse. The prices are great and I've never been less than ecstatically happy with the quality of the seafood here as compared to what you can get at Whole Foods or my local fish monger. Granted, I only shop here when I'm going to entertain or make a special meal, but I never regret making the trip and standing in the cold waiting for the fish to magically appear from the back room.
