An Eater Editor’s Favorite Pupusas Around D.C. | Eater DC

"A tiny, colorful Columbia Heights pupuseria whose pupusas arrive blazing hot and striking a near-perfect balance: well-seasoned filling that runs the length of the dough, a noticeable but not dominant masa flavor, compact discs with smoky char spots, and plenty of cheese that oozes without greasiness. The salsa is solid and reliable, while the curtido is a standout—piquant, thinly sliced, and boldly flavorful." - Missy Frederick

Disappointing experience. Yuca wasn't very flavorful. Staff wasn't very friendly. Got charged for my meal and drink, but also something else, no idea what. Forced tip maybe? Smell of the restaurant was not good.

I love this place so much! Been going here with my college friends for almost 10 years. Everyone is so friendly, the vibe is very chill, and the pupusas hit the spot every time! My go to order is 2 revueltos, 1 frijol y queso and a tamarind jarrito.

Ordered two Salvadoran pupusas - one with loroco a flower / vegetable), bean, and cheese and the other one with pork. Dish came with pickled cabbage and a zesty dipping sauce - really freshly-made food and great value. Service is friendly.

Okay, let me tell you about Gloria's Restaurant! I had the Chicken Quesadilla and Horchata, and seriously, it was amazing. Like, every bite was just right. I know it's a little pricier, but trust me, you won't regret it. The service was super fast, and everyone was so nice. If you want a delicious Hispanic meal in DC, go to Gloria's!

Small portions for price, service was bad, asked for kids menu quesadilla and when it was time to pay they charged for the adult quesadilla $15 instead of $4.50 for a basic quesadilla with no sides. They wouldn't change the price even though it was their mistake. Ended up spending $60 for small amount of food. Will never go back.

The order was not what we requested and the waitress couldn’t understand my request to get it right. There was a definite language barrier. I ordered my taco with no vegetables because I cannot eat onions and you can see in the picture what I received. The restaurant was very nice, a fun atmosphere.

I love Gloria’s. I randomly remembered it tonight and wanted to send a message to the owners: One night I had woken up at 8pm, after months of depression sleeping through daylight in my room. I was incredibly depressed and in a very low point mentally- so I decided to take a walk in the neighborhood and stumbled across Gloria’s shop just GLOWING in the dark lol I walk in and I felt like crying. The TV was on in Spanish, a bunch of workers laughing and eating together at a table. Gloria was doing something in the corner at her spot. The inside of the shop is all painted with flowers and colors. No it’s not fancy or “professional interior design” and the tables have red and white checker tablecloths but I would never change it. It just reminded me of my home and family in Albania (europe). The family vibe of it all and THEN I ATE THE PUPUSAS and they’re SO good. It was the only thing that made me feel good that week - and I barely had 20 dollars to my name as a college student so you know you can get an affordable meal here at Gloria’s. In DC that really means something because everything feels so “cookie-cutter” and expensive. Community is a rare thing to find now. I took all my friends here and they all swear by it. I’m just saying food really heals the soul - and the inside of Gloria’s really does feel like home.
