One day when spending way too much time watching delicious food reels on my phone, I stumbled onto one showing a giant plate of amazing looking gnocchi and a big burrata ball on top. My interest was peaked but of course it was in New York. Well then it got in my algorithm and I discovered that Gnoccheria pretty much exclusively offers many types of pasta sauces poured over regular, stuffed, or fried gnocchi. My husband and I decided whenever we get to New York next, we are going. Fast forward to now and we and friends we were visiting finally got to enjoy this treasure of a restaurant in the East Village.
Reservations can be easily made online. It's a smaller place, but we were lucky enough to snag one of the outdoor tables as it was a nice night. They also still have some of those constructed outdoor seating areas in the street leftover from Covid. We started with a bottle of white wine and a salad. We knew right away we wanted to order the 4 Gnocchi and Burrata to share. The price of $50 was very reasonable for New York and for sharing. You got gnocchi with 4 different sauce- Sorrentina (tomato sauce) Pesto Genovese (basil pesto), Quattro Formaggi (four cheese), and Burro e Salvia (butter and Sage) topped with fresh Burrata. Additionally, we ordered an additional Gnocchi with a sauce made from Artichokes to have a vegan option for the table.
What a beautiful and colorful presentation when it hit the table (and pretty quickly). Each of the four sections was overflowing with perfectly fluffy gnocchi and plentiful sauce. It was SO GOOD! Gnoccheria sticks to what they know best and delivered. It is honestly hard to say which sauce I liked the best as all were good, but I guess the Quattro Formaggi wins for me. I love cheese and the flavor was just very satisfying. But it was nice to have a variety to enjoy. Our table did feel that the size of burrata was a bit small to enjoy with that much gnocchi and would have liked some bread to soak up the sauce. So in an attempt to just order bread and another burrata ball my friend said "can we get another burrata?" To our much surprise of what the waiter thought we wanted and brought us another whole 4 Gnocchi and Burrata entree! We had a brief moment of panic and deciding if should send it back, but then all decided let's be real we all kind of wanted more as it was so good and would enjoy later leftovers. Call us what you want, but we ended up eating that whole second entree and NO REGRETS!
If you love gnocchi, you need to try this place. It was a fantastic meal that I am glad my phone helped me learn about.
