A scrappy, community-run short course saved by locals and beloved for its laid-back vibe, ocean breezes, and inclusive events like the Ashworth Brothers 2Man. A fixture in golf media and local culture.

A really laid back and fun course. It’s quite challenging with lots of hills and valleys. Some holes have almost not fairway and the longer holes have hazards forcing you to play short. The carts, fairways, and greens are all in great shape. The overall vibe is very laid back and working class. The clubhouse was nice and very friendly. The only issue I had was someone didn’t clean up after their dog on one of the fringes of the green. This feels like a pillar of the community. Somewhere for people to get outside and have some fun together.

Richard Chacon

Google
One star less just because it only had one par 5 and the rest were mostly 3’s. Up, down, ravine, short, narrow, all of the above short game necessary and good greens. Undulation on a major scale. Also very narrow. A few holes were really on top of each other. Not sure about the ocean views but the weather was fantastic.

Google
I took the opportunity to play disc golf here as I've seen it on the pro tour and it's an iconic course. Also a bit notorious because it requires a very strong arm. It was a nice course and enjoyable but I won't return. There's not much thought given to disc golf in the day to day operation, most notably the signs are old and unreadable, and it's hard to find tee pads (you're lucky if it's not almost completely worn out). Regular golfers are nice and generally understanding but it's going to be a very very long round unless you jump around or get a string of nice groups that wave you through.

Google
The vibe is amazing, the range is great, the greens are solid and the course is interesting. We went off at 8am and were done at noon with a beverage stop at the turn. Will play again next time I’m in town.

Google
This quirky, hilly, tough, fun course is well worth playing for anyone who loves golf. It annoyed me, thrilled me, ate me up, and rewarded me. Throw in the best hot dogs at the turn in San Diego, and a friendly staff, and you get great value for fun golf. Yes, it's weird. That's part of the fun. Just come play it. And bring extra balls.

Google
Man, what a refreshing golf experience. I booked earlier in the week and got the first tee time 5:50am. Figured I’d be paired with 3 others but ended up being just me (which honestly I prefer unless it’s people I know). The course played great, greens were pristine, holes were challenging and creative. Pace was great because there was nobody but the grounds keeping staff in front of me. Goat Hill has great vibes, very trendy and seems like a cool place to have a beer after a twilight round….which will be in my near future I’m sure. Would highly recommend this short, challenging course!

Google
First public golf course in Oceanside. Definitely feels like old California nostalgia. Indie, hipster vibe. Now owned by Link Soul. Very pet friendly. The most unusual aspect is that there is Frisbee golf going on the course simultaneously. The course plays VERY tight. Leave your slice at home. Tons of elevation changes. Walking it is not for the faint of heart.

Google
Great place to practice putting, and some chipping, with a nice view. I have played the course years ago, but I just come by mostly for a peaceful bit of practice. Have a picnic! See some local wildlife. There is a nice driving range too⛳🏌️‍♂️
google avatar

Edward B.

Yelp
Awesome looking course and amazing views. Prices are pretty good during twilight. Driving range with the putt and chip area is nice. Definitely get a cart. These hills can be brutal when walking it, it definitely lives to its name. Definitely give it a try as the holes are complex and challenging. I'll definitely be back to play here

Yelp
So much fun golfing at Goat Hill Park today. Several holes under construction, but had okay workarounds. Staff was nice and friendly and the course was clean and well maintained. Best part though.... DOG FRIENDLY!!!
google avatar

Jemiah J.

Yelp
The golf course is beautiful and offers a relaxed vibe. It also provides a challenging yet incredibly fun experience. I enjoyed the range too and the staff were friendly and helpful. They also serve delicious hot dogs with potato buns and a variety of sauces and toppings. Book a tee time here!
google avatar

Rexford H.

Yelp
Awesome to have a dog friendly golf course! The course itself wasn't great but not bad for a short par 3/4 executive course. If you have a doggo and want to play some golf with them, this is a great place!

Yelp
What a cool little gem in the heart of Oceanside! I have been coming to this course for quite some time and have always appreciated it. Good for beginners and advanced players alike. The course has gone through some recent upgrades, and is still in the process of revamping a couple of the holes still. Its no Torrey Pines, but it is all I need to really have a good time! Side note, I did lose a couple of Pro V1s here... Just in case you stumble upon any.

Yelp
Love all the improvements and new carts. Great challenging golf course for all levels!

Yelp
Challenging but fun layout, the conditions are great for the winter. Very nice driving range.

Yelp
I had an 11:20 tee time with my two brothers. Was hoping for a nice round of golf but that all ended when these 6 kids got put behind us. They asked to play through us and we politely said no and out of frustration, they were hitting into us purposely. On the third hole, one of them hit a drive that missed my head by inches. We quickly headed back to the clubhouse to report them. The people at the front desk were very nice and let us start again on the back nine with some free golf balls. Nice staff but keep kids like that off the golf course.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. A fun, challenging course made for everyone. Very casual, bring your dog or kid for a quick round.

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Played the golf course yesterday. Worst track of golf I have ever been on. Horrible layout, short holes, and poorly maintained.

david s.

Yelp
Excellent putting green. Beautiful golf course. Lots of friendly faces enjoying the course and the weather!

Marko L.

Yelp
Just wanted to let everyone know the 18th hole is open again. We had damage on one of our cars again this morning. Went to ask about who is going to pay for it and they said they will look for the golfer who's responsible. The golf course just ignores it again this has to stop it's going to hurt or kill someone. Stop being cheap put up a net. I know they are trying but it's not working. It is the first day and we already have a problem. Here's a picture of the damage.
google avatar

Yelp
Really cool golf course that is deceptively difficult with a quirky layout. I was somewhat concerned that this place was overhyped, but it was really great and worth the green fee. The practice area feels like a backyard hangout with modern technology and golf course was really well-maintained with excellent greens.
google avatar

Johnny E.

Yelp
What a great golf experience. Friendly staff and a much better maintained golf course than I thought it was going to be. The care. They get it. Just a great feel and taste in the air when you are at Goat Hill. The hot dogs were fantastic in a special roll instead of a hot dog roll. It was only $8 and included chips. It was worth more and would have paid more. What a refreshing day at Goat Hill.

Brian Q.

Yelp
The golf course has improved. Immensely The people are very friendly, and the atmosphere is very chill. I would recommend this golf club to anyone. Brian from Oceanside

Yelp
I love this course. It's Public, World Class and Working Class. It's a really hard course in a lot of ways, due to the terrain. But, it's chill AF. Meaning you can roll out in your cart with your own little portable speaker and play music, and no one's going to say anything. It's fun to play here, it's technically challenging, and your fellow golfers are usually chill. I see a review about the drone of the 5 Freeway...um there's a Freeway Hole, #7 if I recall, and I love that kind of "work with what you got" You can see the ocean from the driving range, is that annoying? No. It's not. There's a women's league Wednesdays that I can never make it to due to my work schedule. They love community and give back! Bill Murray wore a "Save Goat Hill" shirt on SNL! Mark Wahlberg played there! We play there as often as we can, it's my preferred course in North County. The Wishbone Brawl is always a good time (C Hoffman, X Schauffele SD Natives) - there's literally everything to love and nothing to hate about Goat Hill. Except losing balls. They have assorted beers (from CL to Craft) and "chick drinks" (Truly) cans...need more chick drinks (champagne for Sunday golf). But it's fine. Love the GOAT. The Goat is the GOAT.

Yelp
Brutal course lay out, but so much fun! Staff and facilities have an impeccable vibe, and is a great place for me to spend an afternoon missing greens and getting absolutely shafted for it.

Yelp
Fun course , great staff played here hand full times and always fun ! Very well taken care of as well Ocean breezes !

Yelp
In town for a few days, and found this place. Surprisingly challenging course, very friendly people, really enjoyed it.

Yelp
Cool place. Course is fun but a lot of construction. They started serving food this week. Dogs are $8. Crazy talk.

Yelp
The pictures on here don't do this place justice!! All in all this is a beautiful course that is fun to play. Lots of elevation change and sometimes a bit difficult, but also mostly forgiving and playable if you shank a shot. I've never had a bad time here. I've had days where I didn't play well, but never have had a bad time on the course. The staff is all super chill and cool. Very friendly and have always been welcoming even when I show up late in the day and try to squeeze in a last minute round. They've been super helpful and willing to work with me. They've done a lot to this place in the last year (or more) with renovations and upgrades which means there's always been some sort of construction happening somewhere on the property. Doesn't really bother me, but I can see where that may effect some others view and perception of the place. Are there better and nicer looking courses in the area? Sure, but you're going to pay double or more to play them. All-in-all, this place is great for the price. Not the best or nicest course in town, but dollar for dollar, it's hard to find a better course for the price anywhere in San Diego County.
google avatar

Jamie M.

Yelp
I've been back multiple times since and it's a fantastic course. Read my prior review for more details, but the facilities and customer service have been great every time. Most importantly, as a sub par golfer who doesn't play as much as he should, this place is VERY welcoming to "blue collar" and irregular players. It just has a very welcoming vibe, from the staff to the other players. I've usually needed to play at sub par exec. courses to get a casual feel, but there you get a sub bar playing experience. Here you get the best of both worlds--great course with a more relaxed vibe. Also, they've got great merch and great beer selection too!
google avatar

Yelp
You get what you pay for, or less. GHP might have a bit of interesting history, but current ownership does not take care of it very well. It is the proverbial "goat track". Fairways are a little green, the rough is usually dirt or mud or wood chips. Greens are actually decent so I'll give it a second star. What makes the place interesting, and what makes it a shame that they don't do a better job maintaining it, is that the hilly geography is really fun and challenging. So think of this place as a poor man's "Crossings at Carlsbad" where Crossings is a rich modern nation and this place is a nation of shanty towns with malaria and no plumbing. Pace of play was abysmal. Signage was lacking and the layout confusing. First and last time I'll play here.
google avatar

Andy H.

Yelp
The best short course in all of SD county - likely as well as OC and LA. They have 4 tees to accommodate for different skill levels. The green complexes are some of the toughest in all of San Diego so even though it's under 6000 yds and a par 65, this is a great test of golf - mostly a "2nd shot" type course. You really need to know where to hit the ball of the tee - hint - it's not always at the pin. Course conditions aren't the greatest all around but again, it's a short course - the conditions are great where it counts, and that's the greens and around them. The vibe here is super laid back as well so you don't have any pretense you find at a lot of private courses.

Yelp
Before I leave this Yelp I want to mention I've been playing golf for over 50 years I'm currently a 7.5 handicap so knowa bit about golf courses. First time playing this Golf Course and my last. First it's an executive course. So the rate should be a bit cheaper than a actual full course. However my big complaint is the greens were recently punched as Sandy as a beach and still had to pay $57. I can play any one of the normal courses I generally play where the greens have been punched for at least 12 to $15 cheaper. Also when I mention this to the guy working in the Pro Shop about the rate he mentioned he wasn't in the mood to take this crap. The course would be okay for 40 $45 Max but not a dime more.

Yelp
Sorry, I don't what the attraction of this place is. I've never played here and decided to walk 9 holes at sundown. I'm not a golf snob and I played well, so I'm not being judgmental because of how I played. I just feel like it's kinda of a joke the way the holes wrap around and the way the greens are sloped. Why does anyone play here ? Well if the locals love it, that's good for them.

Cole W.

Yelp
Great course, great staff, very well run and maintained golf course, play here at least once a week.

Yelp
Goat Hill Park Golf Course is everything and anything that you want it to be. Whether you are after a low key, inexpensive place to cure your golf jones on a whim or you're intrigued by the plentiful fun, social and friendly member competitions, Goat Hill Park can provide. I am proud to be a member where the slogan is, "Working Class - World Class." The Playground at the Goat for "kids" is a really cool three hole facility set off to the side and operates on donations. It's the perfect place to grow the sport by introducing your kinder in a lighthearted, pressure-free environment. Cut off and re-grip those old clubs and get your kids started! The Juniors Program headed by PGA Pro, Dave Emerick, is second to none. Get your youngster involved with Dave now if playing in high school might be on the radar. I always roll away from GHP smiling!

Yelp
First of all, this is a fun little course with surprisingly nice rolling greens. While it still looks to be a work in progress, there is potential. Goat Hill reminds me of some of the small courses back home in New England with it's quirky layout and postage stamp greens. The drone of the 5 Freeway is a constant but not really annoying. The grounds crew that I encountered along the way looked to be working hard but were very friendly. This however is where the review turns south a bit. I was the first one off this morning and was surprised by how miserably I was greeted. I didn't get his name, but this grumpy, beanie wearing curmudgeon greeted me with a "So what are we doing here?" For reference, the proper greeting is "good morning", "hello" or "how can I help you?" Pick one! If you don't like greeting people at 7am, then stay in bed! Seriously... I may come back as I like the story of the course and what a select few are doing to revive it, but will have to think twice before doing so thanks to the initial contact with staff. One more thing, I was going to pick up a couple of Goat Hill items by Linksoul because I like the brand, but poor customer service in the pro shop killed that!
google avatar

Marie B.

Yelp
The course is poorly laid out. Worst golf course I've ever played for disc golf. It costs an arm and leg and they don't keep up with it. Most of the signs are illegible and the both times we went the staff were cunts. I don't have a more polite word, just plain rude. The people playing were also pretty crappy and that's not like oside. Wouldn't recommend wasting a day here. Go to brengle if you want to play dg.
google avatar

Lance M.

Yelp
Made a reservation and was quoted $80 upon arriving I was told there was a mistake with the system and ended up paying $190. Upon checking my email I indeed had a reservation for $80. When I called them to make things right they pretty much told me tough luck. Pretty bummed being an Oceanside resident and enjoying this course multiple times before. Won't ever spend my money here anymore and I suggest you don't either.
google avatar

Kyle W.

Yelp
Place is junk paid $58 for 18 and 2 beers made it through 7 and left. Between the disk golfers and the 5 freeway that you can hear on every hole. Go to Oceanside golf course.
google avatar

Leo B.

Yelp
Free family rental of adult & kids clubs to putt and experience the Playground course. What a great 3 holes and contoured green to get the family into golf during a nearby vacation in Carlsbad. Pro shop staff and merchandise were great with plenty of LinkSoul gear. Music, lessons, driving range and a Top 10 ocean-view public course built for the community... World class; Working class! Great job!!

Sierra W.

Yelp
Best golf park. The driving range is great. The employees are super chill. You can have your dog hang out with you. They have a good choice of alcohol. It's a nice spot.
google avatar

Dan W.

Yelp
50 bucks to play goat hill now?!.. it's a fun course but it not a $50 dollar course I guess the working class they mention in their mission statement all live in Jon Ashworths Niegborhood ..js
google avatar

Gary H.

Yelp
As far as disc golf, the course is an afterthought and hard to follow. Several times it criss crosses ball golf holes. Maybe if I was playing with locals I would have liked it more. Lots of hills and a couple of scenic shots. Might be a better ball golf course rather than disc golf.
google avatar

Erin R.

Yelp
Came to play 18 on a Thursday. $27 to ride 18 is a great deal! That said, the hole layout is confusing for first timers and could use better signage. The cart path is in pretty bad shape and there are a number of holes where the fairway is more sandy dirt than grass. It was still a fun course, definitely challenging with the landscape being so hilly. I loved the tiki bar vibe they are building up at the club house. I'd definitely come back!
google avatar

Janice P.

Yelp
Was very amused figuring out what kind of course we were dealing with. 4 ladies (beginners/advanced beginners). Super fun course and just a bit challenging to the brain as well as skill! Layout very different than Orange County golf we were accustomed to. Staff extremely pleasant & accommodating. It was important to them that we had a nice time... And we did!! Golf cart recommended!
google avatar

Neil R.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and great course. Shorter does not mean easier. If you up for a little bit of a workout skip the cart and hoof it.

Leigh B.

Yelp
We had a tee time at 12:50 pm for 4 and when we arrived we were told we were late. We were told our tee time was at 12:00 pm. I had a receipt saying 12:50 pm. The gal at the counter made it seem she was doing a favor getting us on the course when we were actually were early. Not acceptable service. Let's be more professional. Course had an amazing view of ocean that's all I can say.
google avatar

Anthony S.

Yelp
The Goat is possibly the best short course I've EVER played and for sure is the best in SD! I understand that some people might dislike this course as it can be very challenging if conditions don't cooperate that day. But there are some all time great holes on this course. Gotta hit fairways and greens here. The greens are typically some of the best kept Ive seen in SD for public courses. If you hit a good put it's gonna roll true. I simply love this course....even when I hate it!
google avatar

Darrell M.

Yelp
Place is terrible. Any course that would book you a tee time behind a group of six let alone even allow a group of six to book a tee time at 4:00 in the summer is a dog shit golf course. After waiting for 40 minutes to play 2 holes I went back in and asked if I could get my money back they were not able to because it wasn't "raining". If you are going to have the rainout rule than operate in accordance with a golf course that can uphold a rule like that. Don't book a group of six and screw the people behind you. And when they want their money back tell them they can come back any other Sunday. Place sucks
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I was skeptical about playing a par 65 course. This track was not long, but incredibly challenging by way of the greens. I'd challenge any skilled golfer to come into this place and conquer these greens. The fairways are very much so spot play (think links) but very green. The best part about this course was that misses are costly, so you've got to dial in your low irons. Overall, this place has brilliant environment of golfittude, and is a fun place to play.
google avatar

Nick M.

Yelp
This place was very laid back and friendly. The course was great. It's called Goat HILL for a reason I guess because it has a ton of hills, but we didn't mind that since we had a cart!
google avatar

Fernando B.

Yelp
This course is challenging and the greens are in great shape, really smooth. It's great to sharpen your short game and costly if your long game is inaccurate. Make sure you get a cart unless you wanna hike up and down hills, and when I say hike, I'm talking about steep slopes, get the cart. The staff was very friendly which was a nice surprise. The more I golf the more I find out that staff can be hot of miss depending on whether they know you or not. Luckily not a problem here, told them I was new and they told me they'd like to see me stop by again, and offered lots of help. This course is unlike any I've played in the area, a tad bit unorthodox but again, really cool. Also I'm sure they may lose a star because the shoe course isn't rough and fairway, but I think it's still great because it makes you know your clubs and it's really economical if you care about that sort of thing. If you're on the fence or haven't been, stock up on some cheap balls and give it a go.

Yelp
It is hip, it is casual, it is the furthest thing from pompous country club golf you could imagine. Thus, their scorecard reads "World Class * Working Class and The People's Park of Oceanside". There is an online video with a narrator going through each hole and providing suggestions. I highly recommend you do so before... ...entering "THE GOAT CHAMBER". There are many challenges at this course and it begins with the windy ocean breeze and is compounded by the hilly up and down layout, the tabletop undulating compact greens with collapsing front edges. This is primarily target golf and if you miss your spots you are likely to be in some trouble and more than likely serious trouble. We have played the course twice and on VISIT ONE I made the mistake of drinking a large iced coffee on the drive to the course. I chose to play the BLACK tees. This is not a course where anxiety will be permitted and tight hands lead to "duck hooks" and "Slice City USA". The course was "Sold the F out" (a.k.a. very crowded) on this visit with disc golfers and golfers all over the place. There was even a photographer. I found that the coffee bit me because some holes will have the next tee box behind the green that you are driving into or very close to it. I am not a hacker but I will slice or duck hook on occasion when tight or not focused and this made me hesitate on club selection because I didn't want to speed dial my insurance agent to see how good my homeowner's policy was in case of an errant ball. It gave new meaning to "risk vs. reward". But there is plenty of the other "risk vs. reward" here as well. Use the club you need to use and you may go deep and possibly injure someone. Use a lesser club and you're short at best case scenario but with some holes you don't make the green and your ball goes bouncing away off hillsides, cart paths, dirt paths etc.. Fortunately, on VISIT TWO the disc golfers were literally gone. Not a sight of a single one. I don't know if they limit the days for that or how it works, but we never saw one which allowed me to pretty much always choose the club I needed. Since the wind was high today I immediately decided to play the WHITE tees. I ended up with 4 par's and a birdie and enjoyed myself more so it was the right call. The FAIRWAYS are mostly in good or better shape but they are currently laying sod on some holes and you will see "ground under repair" signage on occasion. The course improved from our visit from the week prior so clearly the signs aren't "fake news" (so-to-speak). Some SAND TRAPS look a little worn so hopefully that is on their list. As were a couple TEE BOXES. The GREENS are mostly in really nice shape except a couple that were being aerated and had a lot of sand on them. The greens can be really tough since many are small with undulations and drop-off edges are very common where you could land in serious trouble. The course is near the freeway for a part of it so you'll get some noise there. The golf CARTS are newer but with no GPS. You can easily see why the pro's played a tourney here (see online video) because from the black tees you will face tests...especially when windy. The cart paths are dirt or blacktop. There are some dirt areas which may be part of the park or work-in-progress...I'm not sure. The challenging par 3's is where I made my money today. At every hole I had my analysis cap on and chose my club and spot carefully. I hit the mark on many par 3's which really put me in a good spot for birdie attempts or fairly easy pars. There are tons of rabbits, squirrels and young squirrels which adds to the visual charm. The clubhouse is modern beach house with music playing on the exterior. The course is mostly green and in good shape overall. So, leave the coffee for another day and enter "THE GOAT CHAMBER" ...the land of risk vs. reward and where smart golf will mostly reign supreme.

Frank M.

Yelp
No ranger and poorly managed. Group of 8 was playing together backing up the entire course. Asked for a refund after 9 holes. They offered for me to play the back 9 again. By then I had been there 3 hours for 9 holes and I just left. I cannot believe they did not manage how many golfers were out there. Never again.
google avatar

Stu S.

Yelp
I'm enjoying a post-round craft IPA now. It was a pleasant day despite the challenges of the course. Many tee shots are unforgiving on accuracy, definitely some target golf here. Opportunities for poor lies are plentiful. The staff are super friendly and the vibe is California cool. Funk and reggae fill the airwaves at the clubhouse. I dig the Goat and hope to return!

Yelp
Went there today for the first time to play disc golf. It was great & alot different than the places I'm used to. We got behind some slow "ball golfers" but they let us play through so we ended up cruisin' right along. Sure are some long ass holes 800+ ft. Can't wait to go back. btw GET A CART!! long and hilly.
