The Best Gluten-Free Pizza Restaurants in San Francisco | Eater SF

"At all three of Goat Hill’s SF locations (300 Connecticut Street in Potrero Hill, 171 Stillman Street in SoMa, and 170 West Portal Avenue), those who eschew gluten can order any of their classic pies with a thin, gluten-free crust. Hungry diners might want to grab two, though, as the GF option (an additional $5) is only available for medium-size pizzas." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Yummy Pizza that’s relatively affordable. Bruschetta was super yummy, I loved the Pesto addition! The pesto pasta was yummy, lacking a bit of flavor though, and a little oily. That’s my only complaint!

James Brown

Google
Ordered and picked up from the West Portal location. They don't currently offer inside seating (no outside), so ordered to go. Service was good and food was promptly cooked. The food was good but it is NOT INEXPENSIVE. I'd consider going back because the food is good (especially the sour dough crust), but I think there are other places that are better, especially given the prices.

Amy Higgins

Google
Great pizza! This location is definitely more of a take out spot with only a few tables to eat at inside.

Marianna Fila

Google
The best pizza in San Francisco. Sourdough crust is perfectly cooked. Although Medium size pizza easily can feed 3 people, it’s so tasty I don’t want to share at all.

Jonathon Paul

Google
Excellent sourdough pizza; Goat Hill is a longtime neighborhood staple. Crust is tangy, rich with flavor and just crispy enough. Sauce is also very good; best to order light but that depends on preference. Plain cheese & mushroom pie was delicious as are all their meat toppings. A regular hangout for almost 20 yrs now; excellent service too; love this place!

Google
Nice service. Good pizza. Kind of expensive. Since when did individual pies cost $20? Only in San Francisco?

B

Google
Very mid overall experience. The pizza is okay, not very good. Cheap-ish at least

Google
Delicious slices. Loved the sourdough crust! Would come back again.

Yelp
I ordered the vegetarian slice, and while I appreciated the combo of garlic, onion, spinach, and feta, I found myself wishing there was just more of everything--especially the cheese. The crust was extra crunchy, to the point where it actually scraped the roof of my mouth a bit. It's a really small spot with only about three tables inside, so it might be better for takeout. The staff seemed like good, down-to-earth kids. I have a feeling there are probably better-tasting slices on the menu than the one I got this time around.

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood in search of something satisfying. I stumbled upon Goat Hill and it immediately brought back memories of the Potrero Hill location and had to try it. It was a decent pizza. I was hoping that it would be as I remembered, but sadly, it wasn't and the pizza was just okay. The best part of the pizza is the sourdough crust. We ordered the saltimbocca and a combo and asked them to make it a half and half. The combo was solid, but I wasn't a big fan of the saltimbocca. The one thing I noticed was the pizza made me very thirsty after I got home. Too much salt or use of flavor enhancers for me. As much as I enjoyed the sourdough crust, that alone is not enough for a return visit.
google avatar

Elaine Y.

Yelp
Came to Goat Hill Pizza and enjoyed it. I thought their combinations were pretty unique, specifically for the Saltimbocca with its lemon and sage paired toppings. I would say this pizza place leans traditional. It's a thicker pan crust with corn meal baked in and there's nothing particularly fancy about the food. It's solidly 3 stars in my opinion for a budget friendly pizza option. I will say that you should probably stick to just the pies though. The baked ziti was overcooked so the noodles were on the mushy side and the garlic bread had no garlic flavor. The Greek salad used iceberg which adds nothing, but I will commend them for adding a good variety of Greek-like toppings (feta, olives, chickpeas, etc) and keeping the dressing on the side.

Yelp
Wow, this pizza sucks. Got their slice with veggies and meat and the crust is super hard and it's lukewarm and the staff is constantly on their phone. This place is empty and now I know why. Flavorless pizza.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying, I'm very particular about pizza! Since it's high in carbs, I'm very selective about the kinda pizza I'll indulge in. I've never had a sourdough crust before and lemons on pizza?? Order me a pie ASAP! The thinness of the crust is incredible, so you're not just wasting calories on bread. The ratio of actual toppings on the pizza is nothing like I've ever seen -- I mean $30 for 8 slices medium pizza is steep but you get a really quality pizza! Service is all impeccably friendly and professional. Pizza was ready in the 20 minutes as promised. I wish I captured the cheese pull on the Saltimbocca -- just simply exceptional. I didn't think lemons on pizza would work and yet I was so intrigued that I had to try it! I don't even like lemon chicken and this was so good. You can really taste the freshness and quality. If you don't wanna pay for metered parking, you can circle around to the residential area to park. Goat Hill Pizza has an old time pizza parlor vibe. It's small and cozy, got 4 small tables and seats maybe 10. Lots of people love the pizza here so much that they'll just come and order a single slice to dine in. Do yourself a favor and join the neighbors

Yelp
Every year in August I get a birthday greeting with a coupon from @goathillpizza and I never not use that coupon. I can't remember the value but it's something like half off. Can't beat that, right? This year opted for a half and half Maggie Mae (marinara, mozzarella, and fresh basil) and the special combo (salami, pepperoni, Italian sausage, meatball, bell peppers, scallions, garlic, and NO olives- bc we are an olive hating family). XL size and it came out to about $30!!! Score. The West Portal location is where we like to go, never been to Potrero Hill location. A few tables and seats inside. Plenty of street parking if you can find it.

Yelp
Didn't feel like cooking so I ordered for delivery. This was my first time trying sourdough pizza. The crust is amazing! Very light and airy but crisp. I wish they added a bit more pizza sauce all over though. I do appreciate the generous amount of toppings. The buffalo wings were standard flavor wise but they were very plump in size. I would order from here again.

Maria ..

Yelp
Nicest server ever! Super honest, helpful and it was my first time picking up pizza so very impressed. I so appreciate them I had to write this review to thank them. And the pizza is great too:)
google avatar

Yelp
It's simply the best pizza in Potrero! Food was served nicely from the staff!! Love the little gallery features children's drawings! So cute! I'll definitely go back and try some new ones!!

Yelp
Sourdough pizza... sighhhh so incredibly delicious! This spot has been my go-to recommendation for ages, and after a friend recently tried it, I couldn't resist craving it all over again. It's been a while since my last visit, but it's so good that I ended up ordering it three times in the past two weeks..no regrets! Service is straightforward and reliable, with pick-up orders always ready on time. Their ranch is amazing, totally gives me Wingstop vibes and pairs perfectly with the pizza. The ambiance is super simple and cozy, with just a few small tables, so it's not ideal for large groups, but perfect for a quick, casual bite.

Yelp
Customer service is always TOP TIER!! Friendly employees who aim to please. Delivery is on time (the one time it was late they made it right.) Pies are made with fresh ingredients. In house sausage and a combination for any palate.
google avatar

Aden G.

Yelp
The Mediterranean pizza was light in texture and substantial as a meal. The dough is not super chewy but light and crunchy. This is a pizza that you don't regret eating afterwards. The place was small but was easy to grab a table. Service is fast.

Yelp
Amazing! I've been going here since I was a very young boy. Pizza: 9.5/10 I love the sourdough crust. Price: 5/10 A little bit expensive for a pizza place, but in my opinion it's worth it! Service: Always quick to get your needs 10/10 Ambiance: It's great! I loved the remodeling they did 12/10 Overall, it's a great place to bring kids and enjoy pizza!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
It's kinda a famed pizza place in the city. I popped in for a slice at lunch. It was just ok. I was sad.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Ordered a pepperoni pizza and some wings on Sunday. The pizza was great as usual. The sourdough crust is unique and delicious. Love the crisp on the pie. Also best Ranch dressing in SF!
google avatar

Ry T.

Yelp
We decided to get a pizza today. I had some points to redeem and my birthday treat which made the XL special combo $15 which included the soon to be eliminated junk fee of health mandate and tax. The pizza was ordered by phone but by the time we got it home, parts were soggy not the delish crispy crust I've had here before. Staff was very nice. Can not wait to order again.

Jose T.

Yelp
The pizza was hella expensive and bland. I forced myself to finish it because of what I paid for it not because I actually liked it.

Jamaica G.

Yelp
Greatly appreciate that they offer vegan pizza. While Daiya cheese is not my go to (miyokos or violife would be better!) an option is still much better than just a no cheese pizza. The staff are super friendly and attentive. The crust is thin but stiff. Overall I would eat here again absolutely
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
This was my first time trying sourdough crust and it's delicious, thin, and chewy! They always have my order ready pretty quick & I like that parking around the corner or a block away makes it super easy for pickup orders. There's space to eat inside too if it's chilly or you can't wait for a slice!
google avatar

Rick T.

Yelp
First time having Goat Hill Pizza and I must say I was happy I tried it! The pizza was on the thinner side which is how I like it and had a sourdough crust which was great! Would definitely get it again!

Suzanna B.

Yelp
Sauce flavor is lost - crust idea was ok but mostly burnt. I ordered a small cheese pizza to check out the basics and ordered a meat lovers for a friend. Sauce flavor was lost so the cheese pizza was burnt cheese bread with caraway. Oh well. I chose to try it so moving on.
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
Ordered a large vegetarian combo pizza for a small meeting. Easy ordering online and pick up was easy because we found a parking space but could be bad at West Portal. We only had to wait 5 minutes after arriving. Ordered a large Vegetarian Combo that had 10 small cut pieces and the cost was $30+. Pizza smelled really good! Pizza was good, a bit small for a large. We ordered thin crust.

Audrey K.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite pizza place in SF. We always order the whole pizza and it's just simply amazing. Perfect balance of flavors and very fresh ingredients. I can't believe how fancy their cheese tastes at this price point. The dough alone is so worth it. I never finish the pizza edges except when I'm eating here. Highly recommend the special combo. Thank you so much and please don't ever leave this neighborhood.
google avatar

Kris M.

Yelp
We decided to try this place out for pizza Friday's. Ordered small two pizzas and a side of wings. I regretted it. It was expensive. The only saving grace on the pizza was the crust, the rest was too salty and not tasty at all. The wings were greasy and bland. Would not go back considering the better options in the area with better quality and price.

Yelp
We've been ordering from West Portal Goat Hill for years, but something amazing has happened to it post-pandemic. It's the same sourdough crust and huge pizza slices for walk-in (and they'll sell whole pies to go if you want), but it's the friendly service and this nice, scrubbed "eat-in-if-you-want" feeling. We bought several slices on a prime-time Friday and *gasp*, there were many delish choices! And THANK you employees for really being sweet and nice and friendly. Attention Meat-eaters, I HIGHLY Recommend this Porky Pie - Ham/bacon, roasted garlic, red onion, garlic, and some magic. Seriously, I usually don't eat "ham", but this was the bomb. Topped off by great counter service at take-out. Thanks, Goat Hill, for being a dependable West Portal favorite after all these years.
google avatar

Theresa S.

Yelp
The quality of the pizza itself was delicious! The sourdough taste and texture of the bread was an added bonus to their options of traditional and seasonal pizzas. I had the previlege of trying both today and they were SPECTACULAR! One pizza was made of chicken, bacon, garlic sauce, and fresh sage and lemon slices; and who could go wrong with pepperoni pizza? I was blown away at the creativity of the first pizza. I just would have never though to put fresh lemon slices and fresh sage onto my pizza, but oh boy, the saying, "Never judge a book by its' cover" never was so true! I would love to come back again if I am in the area. Pleased and satisfied.

Yelp
Good pizza! Small place and perfect for a quick slice. I was super hungry and just needed something to hold me off until dinner time and goat hill pizza saved the afternoon. I really enjoyed the bbq chicken pizza. Adding dried red peppers gave it a nice kick. My partner got the veggie pizza and it was cheesy and soft. The best part was the crust! I'm not a crust person, but I think their crust was made with sourdough bread. So good! It was just crunchy enough and just chewy enough. The next time I'm in this part of town, I'll be ordering more than just a slice! Yum!

Les L.

Yelp
Best sourdough crust pizza in town. Try their lemon cream ravioli! Yum! Reliably great food from kind people.

Yelp
I came to Goat Hill Pizza in a Friday late afternoon. I had a birthday coupon to use for $19.75 off whatever I ordered which to me is a pretty great deal. Upon entering the shop, the door was boarded up, so I assumed maybe there was a prior break in. The vibe and atmosphere of the shop was kind of dull. There was no music playing and no livelihood even in the workers. I ended up ordering a small Hawaiian pizza (yes, pineapple does belong on pizza) and paid about $1.25ish after taxes and my coupon. The small pizza is basically a personal pizza and is a relatively good size. I would recommend Goat Hill Pizza if you ordered a pizza fresh vs a slice pizza that's already made. The slice pizzas didn't have any heating lamps over them which I thought was odd, however; they did have a toaster over that I believe would be used to warm up the slices.

Omar N.

Yelp
The food was pretty low tier, even red pepper couldn't save the pizza, the end of the crust was good, sorry. I wouldn't come back, hopefully you improve on this for any future customer walking in, thought you should know.

Sharon H.

Yelp
My favorite pizza in the city. A large Hilda's Favorite hits the spot every time. The West Portal location has a few tables but if the weather is nice just take it and find a breezy spot to sit. Service is fast because we always order online ahead of time and it's never cold when we get there at the estimated ready time.
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
One of my favorite pizza spots in SF! They use sourdough for their dough base & its so good! I love sourdough so this was a perfect combo. Ordered a large special combination & it was enough for 4 people (with leftovers). Would get again!

Yelp
Although it doesn't seem to happen nearly as often as it used, there was a long stretch there where Goat Hill Pizza used to come up at nearly every turn. Whether it be while randomly poking around on Yelp, at the recommendation of fellow Yelpers, or just during random conversations with friends, it almost felt like the world was trying to get me to finally check this place out for myself. Not that I really needed much coercing; getting me to try a potentially delicious pizza place is akin to asking, "hey, would you like to go on a date with a model?". Uhh...yes. Yes, I would. Now, while there's a wealth of pizza joints sprinkled all around this side of The City (West Portal, Portola, Parkside, Sunset), I have to admit that none of them are all that amazing. Plenty of convenient, neighborhood spots, but nothing that would really rank among the best that SF has to offer. Given that, as well as the looks of the menu, it's no wonder that Goat Hill ranks so highly among my friends who live out this way. From their classic combinations to their more unique varieties, there are a ton of different options to choose from. All of which, might I add, sounded delicious. -- LARGE HALF & HALF PIZZA...$29.75 ---- SPECIAL COMBINATION - Salami, Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Ground Beef, Mushrooms, Green Bell Peppers, Green Onions, Black Olives, and Garlic ---- PORKEY PIE - Bacon, Roasted Garlic, Red Onion, and Garlic Cream Sauce (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/goat-hill-pizza-san-francisco-6?select=COGLGLwGWugnfGkAii8s5g) Both of these were really good, but, of the two, I liked the Porkey Pie just a bit better. I loved the mix of toppings on the Special Combination, especially how it had four different meats!), but I really liked how unique the Porkey Pie was and how well everything complemented each other. -- X-LARGE HALF & HALF PIZZA....$34.45 ---- MEAT LOVERS - Mozzarella, Salami, Sausage and Pepperoni ---- PORKEY PIE - Bacon, Roasted Garlic, Red Onion, and Garlic Cream Sauce (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/goat-hill-pizza-san-francisco-6?select=g775Z5QTrslN9IQD1W8jRA) Did I mention that I liked the Porky Pie? It's impressive how flavorful it is considering how few ingredients it has (it's so garlicky and the sauce is great!). As for the Meat Lovers, it's fairly standard, but the quality of the meats were great. In particular, the sausage they use is delicious! -- X-LARGE HALF & HALF PIZZA...$41.08 ---- SPECIAL COMBINATION - Salami, Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Ground Beef, Mushrooms, Green Bell Peppers, Green Onions, Black Olives, and Garlic ---- CUSTOM PIZZA with Ham, Mushroom, Sausage, and Garlic Cream Sauce (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/goat-hill-pizza-san-francisco-6?select=3HK0Bi3a1PamPui-2AgxnQ) This may not have been the most exciting pairing (though the Special Combo was just as good), but I was curious about their DIY option. And I have to say, I was impressed! Sure, it tasted good, but the best part was how they don't skimp - it came loaded with toppings! In addition to their use of quality ingredients (and how generous they are with them), the other signature aspect of Goat Hill's pizzas is their sourdough crust. It's certainly not that traditional, but it works really well (and is very San Francisco). Not only does it add that familiar yeasty flavor to every bite, but the texture and consistency is perfect - not super dense/thick, yet not so thin as to fall apart from the oil and sauces. Also, along with the great pizzas, I thought it was worth mentioning that the staff here is terrific; attentive and very friendly (I've done takeout, as well as dined in). Since my last visit here came before the shelter in place orders were set into place (we're saving lives, people!), I can't say what the experience is like at this point. However, the next time I decide to venture out for something different than my cooking at home, or to satisfy that pizza craving, it's a pretty safe bet that I'll be coming here. After all, I've got to do my part to make sure my new go-to pizza place on this side of the city survives this pandemic!

Yelp
Update! Can I give this place ZERO stars? So after the atrocious experience I had on New Year's Eve, I emailed "customer service" and asked them to contact me. Going on a week, and not a call, not an e-mail not any form of reach out. I guess Goat Hill not only is OK producing terrible pizza but they are OK with having terrible customer service. Boy do I wish I had seen Goat Hill's 3.3 overall review before I ordered. Those one star reviews were on point and I could have saved 40 bucks! Bad pizza, horrid customer service. Please eat anywhere else. And Goat Hill? Would love to hear from you. Happy to post an update when I do . ..

Yelp
If you look at their menu, as I did, you'll a large cheese pizza is $18.95. So I ordered one with 2 toppings. When I went to pick it up with a $5 dinner salad it was $50. When I asked how that could possibly be she said the cheese pizza is actually $29 & each topping $4.50. Ridiculous! It's bait & switch. I'll never go there again.
google avatar

Därch M.

Yelp
The medium pizza was tiny, greasy, barely hot and $36! The ambience was nonexistent and the two employees were actively eating when I walked in. I would give them half a star if possible.
google avatar

Teddy S.

Yelp
The fact that I had to leave my girlfriend's 30th birthday party for a half hour because you wouldn't drive 10 minutes for a delivery, 3.1 miles, is ridiculous. I had to do an unexpected pickup. I'd appreciate you guys making this right.
google avatar

Yelp
Great pizza and fast service - our pizza was ready before I could turn around. I can't wait to eat here again. Thanks!

Yelp
My son likes this pizza. It's the only reason I would ever support this business. Personally I'm a bit picky and don't care for 1970's style american cheese glop pizza. Often by asking restaurant to simply back off on the cheese and toppings pizzas become more to what I'm used to or what I believe pizza should be. Neapolitan style. Today I walked in with my son. It was lunch time and the restaurant was empty. The young man working the front was glued to his phone and ordering seems like I was interrupting his personal time. I asked if they could make half the pizza differently. He said sure. I ordered half cheese and pepperoni. On the other half I asked for very light cheese, very light pepperoni and double mushrooms. For a small pizza this came out to $29. When the pizza came out what I got was a small regular cheese and pepperoni pizza with a to go cup full of raw mushrooms. I'm thinking to myself how hard could it have been to walk into the back and tell the pizza makers exactly what I had asked for was. Instead he tried to enter the instructions on the computer. The place was empty when I ordered and empty when my pizza came out. How hard can this really be if someone gives a care. I hope someday my son will outgrow his childhood liking of bad food so I will never have to step into this grease pit again. Despite their history and potential nostalgia the day goat hill closes their doors will be a good day for San Francisco. While little original joe's a block away has made mistakes on my pizza they have always made it right be offering to make it again or give a refund. Little Original Joes makes a pretty mean zaa. Probably why goat hill is now perpetually empty. I have spent many years working in restaurant primarily cooking. The single one variable that always distinguishes great restaurant from the rest is if the staff and owners eat the food they serve. I bet it's been a long time since the owners of goat hill ate one of their own pizzas. Owners who serve what they eat and eat what they serve tend to care and make food that is enjoyable and appropriate. I feel a little bad slamming this place but the service and food has simply lost their ability to be a local asset. Time to hand over the baton to someone who cares and knows how. Goodby goat hill pizza. I have thought about this for a while. At first I thought 2 stars was fair but unfortunately this is not the first time goathill has let me down. Go elsewhere.

Terryl N.

Yelp
Delicious, flavorful. We got the Maggie Mae has a sourdough crust. Definitely one of the best pizzas I've ever had!
google avatar

Carla O.

Yelp
Pizza is overpriced and not at all tasty. We paid more than $50 for an xl pizza. The only good thing about the pizza is the crust. Everything else is bland - including the sauce. What happened to this place??? The two other restaurants in West Portal that serve pizza are WAY better and cheaper.
google avatar

Troy M.

Yelp
The artichoke and tomato pizza was excellent they're red pepper is quite spicy when you use the whole packet on one slice
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Omg!!! I bought lasagna to go after a 10 min ride I noticed the paper bag was all greasy and leaking on the bottom, which left a huge grease stain on the back seat of my car!!!! Then I got home and walked up the stairs, then the whole bag broke and the lasagna fell all over the stairs!! You guys need better packaging!! No dinner for me just a huge clean up! I don't even know how I'll clean the grease out of my car seat

Yelp
These days, a simple reminder of normalcy--no matter how small--is a welcome reprieve from the pandemic... especially if it's restaurant-related. (2019 me would never say this, but I actually miss being in a crowded restaurant.) Goat Hill Pizza is trucking along and helping us feel like it's 2019 B.C. (Before Covid, that is). Despite being a small business, despite operating at a level far below 2019 profits, they're still offering a free medium pizza for your pandemic birthday to keep everyone's spirits up. You can't go wrong with a delicious cheese pizza. And you can't go wrong with a beloved neighborhood spot that's committed to that mantra we've been hearing for nearly a year now: we're all in this together.
google avatar

Josie C.

Yelp
Sourdough pizza for the win! 10/10 *chef's kiss* I've been a member of the birthday club for quite some time now and no complaints. If you are visiting the city it's a must. If you buy a whole pie they can make it vegan. Veggie friends are covered here too.

Yelp
Goat Hill was our go to pizza place for 3 years but now we're done. The price and service quality has deteriorated too much 1. $40 for a large 3 topping pizza! We can order fancy pizza from Fiorella or Delfina for this price. 2. House salad was $8, now $15. It's canned beans, canned olives, canned artichokes, etc. Nothing fresh. Not worth this new price. 3. They aren't on any delivery services and are often late. No tracking means you spend time on the phone checking up on your order. For my family, 1 large and 1 salad comes to $70 after delivery fee, tax, and tip. That's insane. No more.
google avatar

Teresa C.

Yelp
Always good service and friendly attitude :) Love these guys! How much? we'll I took a lyft round trip to pick up my pizza cause it's cheaper than delivery ha ha Yes I'm kinda crazy that way. Today I got a salad yes, no pizza and oh my God it is humongous and so so good!!! You need to get one, it will not disappoint if you're trying to diet like I am... I know sad sad times :(

Yelp
It was a cold late afternoon and I wanted a slice to warm up. I didn't realize that it was sourdough until I bit into the pizza. It was a nice surprise. I would definitely come back here again for another quick slice. It looks like they have a special slice every day. The special during my visit was a Hawaiian jalapeno. I recommend just eating your slice here since they have free cups of water and napkins, plus ample seating. +1 for cool merch +2 for sourdough pizza +1 for quick in and out
google avatar

Nathan R.

Yelp
I find their pizza to be tasty. My problem is with their delivery service. They use a company that defaults to take out. So pizza delivery does not work and we got no food. Too late to get anything. They did not offer to reimburse us.
