Where To Do Fall Stuff Within 90 Minutes Of Chicago

"Barrington, IL - 50 minutes from The Loop We’re big fans of the apple cider donuts at Goebert’s in Barrington. And while they’re delicious enough to drive an hour for, that’s not the only reason to spend your Saturday here. This place also has a corn maze, pig races (they compete to win a donut) and a haunted house that’s supposedly designed for children, but we’re not taking any chances. Oh, and the bakery also has pumpkin cookies and all sorts of pies. Check out their site for a full list of activities." - adrian kane

The Best Farms, Orchards, and Pumpkin Patches With Fall Foods Near Chicago

"Pumpkin picking is just the beginning of the spooky season attractions at Goebbert’s, which has a duo of locations in South Barrington and Pingree Grove. Through Tuesday, October 31, those who make the trip will be rewarded with pig races, camel rides, a giraffe barn, and even a giant mechanized “dinosaur” that devours whole pumpkins. The farm’s dining options at the Red Barn Cafe & Bakery are just as extensive with standouts like apple cider slushies and chili cheese dogs to pumpkin squares and Aunt Patty’s pecan pie." - Naomi Waxman

Goebbert’s fall festival has been a family tradition for years. We go every year in October to enjoy the simple, fun charm of the festival. They have a fairly expansive petting zoo, with a giraffe no less. There’s also pig races, corn pits, haunted house, hay bale rides and tons of photo ops for the kids. Great place to let the little ones run around and burn off some steam with its massive grounds. There also a pretty amazing gift shop with great souvenirs, farm-grown foods, clothing and holiday gifts. It gets a little pricier every year, but for us it’s absolutely worth it given the fun day we have. The food is above average for a fall festival, and the apple ciders are second to none. Highly recommend for a super chill, fun easy time with the family. Expect to spend 2-3 hours to fully enjoy.

I have been purchasing flowers from this location for the last couple of years and have gotten so many complements. This year I purchased flowers spent almost $300 and a few of the flowers are dying already. I called to complain to see if I can bring them and get different ones and was told that there is no guarantee that I will be able to exchange them or get my money back. First she asked me if I watered them.. Then she put me on hold and told me that I might have over watered them. I mean I could've went to Home Depot which would have let me exchange with no issues. What kind of customer service is this? So disappointed. You LOST a customer. It's been only 3 days by the way.

Google
Thank you Goebbert's Garden Center - The new flowers in my garden smell amazing & bring joy to me every day. Plus, my neighbors have given countless compliments on my absolutely gorgeous roses and their stunning blooms. Everyone wants to know my secret. But I tell them, it's no secret, they're from Goebbert's! In my experience, your veggie plants, herbs, and flowers are simply THE BEST. If anyone is looking for beautiful flowers that flourish or healthy veggies like peppers or tomatoes that bring deliciousness all summer long, Goebbert's is unquestionably the place to go!!

Google
Such a fun spot to visit in the fall! I was surprised by just how big it was and how many activities they had. They have everything you could want for fall fun: fresh apples, pumpkins, apple cider donut, corn maze, and a hayride. They also have a lot of different animals from all around the world that you can feed and pet. Plenty of cute photo ops too! My only complaint is the price. It’s $25/person at the gate and $23.50/person if you pay online (+3% credit card fee). All of the food, drinks, and some of the activities (camel ride, pony ride, and feeding the animals) cost extra. While there was a lot to do, between food, pumpkins, and fall treats, we ended up spending close to $150 between two people after spending about an hour there. The admission price is definitely more worth it if you’re taking kids with you since most of the activities are kid-focused, but I could see the cost adding up quickly.

Google
Great for kids; wish there was more beer selection. The food was not bad. Our child loved it. Definitely worth the value and would recommend for any family with a 2-8 year old. Single folks probably would enjoy different fall festivals that aren't as geared towards kiddos.

Google
No matter how the weather is outside at Goebbert’s Farm you can still have a great time. The giraffe is amazing, it’s a unique opportunity to get the chance to feel and pet the animals. The food was good ( the only thing I didn’t like is that the lady from the bakery was not wearing gloves when touching the food 🤷🏻‍♀️) I added a video with the lady from bakery so the management can see it and take actions. Other than that everyone was super nice and helpful. This place is great for kids and adults. I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the rainy day. Definitely will be back on the next event they have.

Google
It could be a beautiful place. However, they have all these animals in TERRIBLE conditions. They have all these exotic animals under a tarp in a parking lot with little to no padding. It was hot in there & temperatures have not dropped. They had a pig momma with her piglets in an area with no mud which they very much need to cool off. They have 10-15 kangaroos in one small cramped place as well as baby cows and other big animals in small cramped areas. The animals look distressed & specially when you have kids throwing carrots at them & taunting them. There is no crowd control for the animals to get a break from all the people attending. The ponies where also sad to look at chained up & just going in circles. It’s a very heart wrenching view.

Google
Had a great time for a little fall fun! The amenities are impressive!! The sweets, hot drinks, and animals are definitely my favorite parts. Decent prices for entry and for pumpkins. The bakery is decently priced for how delicious they are! Definitely Recommend! We wondered if the animals have better pens to live in outside of working hours as it was cold, but we did notice they seem very well taken care of physically and are friendly! Loved our experience there.

Yelp
This place is fun. I took my Daughter here when she was little. The giraffes and petting zoo are cool. From what I understand the giraffes are the owner's pets. They're beautiful up close and we are paying to feed them - genius (and worth it). The apple spice donuts and coffee are a favorite. Bring some dough with You, it's easy to spend here, and You will have fun doing it. I don't know if the children have more fun or we do watching them have fun. Go enjoy your family and fall.

Yelp
Came on Sunday at 11, parking was already quite full. Line to get in went quickly as we pre purchased tickets. It was ok for my 14 year old, probably more fun for younger kids. Had the pumpkin cookie, horrible, way too sweet, gave me a headache after just couple of bites, had to throw it away.

Yelp
We came to Goebbert's Farm expecting a fun time at an apple orchard, but were instead shocked by what we found. The animals were in appalling conditions, kept in tiny cages with no access to fresh water or proper food. The most heartbreaking sight was a camel with a drooped hump, which we later learned is a sign of severe malnourishment and dehydration. The animals seem deliberately deprived of basic necessities so they'll interact with visitors offering them food. It's a disturbing setup that made us feel sick to our stomachs. We left feeling complicit in something deeply wrong. I can't in good conscience recommend anyone visit this place. I have included images of the giraffes enclosure, which is smaller than most Chicago apartments, zebras and camels with no space, and kangaroos in a small cage surrounded by people.

Yelp
How have I never reviewed Goebbert's before?!? I've been coming here literally my whole life - the first time I went here I was a toddler and have been here numerous times since. I think this place is what started my love for pumpkin farms and fall in general. I even have baby pictures of me here! It's wild to see how this pumpkin patch grew bigger and better over the years. As a pumpkin patch connoisseur, Goebbert's definitely reigns high (I LOVE their Pingree Grove location, too) in the Chicago burbs. Goebbert's really has it all - a corn maze, a petting zoo, pony rides, camel rides, a hay ride, pig races, kids play area, tons of games, and a market/cafe with delicious local baked items, apple cider, produce, decor, and more. I always get the hot apple cider when I'm here and I splurge on some of the desserts. This season I got their pumpkin cookie and it was phenomenal - sweet, big, and moist! I'm dying to try their pumpkin chocolate chip bread found in their market. I think they easily have the best petting zoo out of all the 10+ pumpkin farms I've personally been to in Illinois. They have kangaroos, goats, llamas, alpacas, sheep, bulls, pigs, cows, chickens, and wayyy more. Plus they used to have zebras in the past, and they have a freaking giraffe for crying out loud! Some people love a big maze; this one here definitely isn't huge but it's a fun thing to do. They added a new little cow themed ride more recently which is faster than the hay ride and tons of fun. The patch itself is super spacious but can definitely get crowded on the weekends. This season it's priced at $18 on weekdays, $22 on the weekend if you buy online, and $24 on the weekend if you buy in person. I think these are reasonable prices for all you get to do here. I do love checking out other pumpkin farms, but Goebbert's will always be a hometown classic for me. Love this pumpkin patch!

Yelp
The poor pony's are forced to stand all day and go in circles over and over. When no one is there they just stand there all day not able to play down even. The giraffe has half the area covered in his own poop. Not cleaned up. Animals here are miserable looking and not taken care of

Yelp
Variety of corns .. great surprise for me Goebbert's Farm and Garden is a well-known destination for family-friendly fun and seasonal activities. Located in South Barrington, Illinois, this farm offers a wide range of attractions, especially during the fall season. Visitors can enjoy pumpkin picking, , a petting zoo, and a corn maze, making it an excellent spot The farm also features a garden center where you can purchase plants, flowers, and gardening supplies. Their selection is impressive, and the knowledgeable staff is often available to offer gardening advice. Throughout the year, Goebbert's hosts various events, including seasonal festivals and activities for kids, making it a popular choice for families. The farm's friendly atmosphere and the array of activities it offers make it a delightful place to visit for those looking to embrace the spirit of the season and explore their gardening interests. Different booths for taking our pictures different sized pumpkins, camels, horses to enjoy . A tractor with special msg 'Girls can be Farmers' etc, main attraction of market

Yelp
Tad disappointed that the cider mugs haven't changed for several years. The prices here are pretty steep, on the weekends there is an entrance fee so if you're able to go during the week - I highly recommend that. Entrance fees during the weekend is $22 per person if purchased online and $24 per person if purchased in person. This is a fun spot for a family outing, there's lots of activities for children that will keep them busy for hours. They do offer food and drinks at an additional cost. If you're looking for fresh produce there is a market located inside here as well.

Yelp
Another beautiful Sunday in October!! Can say that too often nearing November. Visited online to purchase our tickets bout $22 for adults (you skip the lines at entrance) since it was nice out it was packed! But place was big enough to have your own space. Started with roasted corn, then signature cider, then donuts, explored the candy cannon, and bill cook the magician, he got me asking myself "how he do that?!!" As I was enjoying the my cider, watch out!! That was a speed bump it was little kid you probably walked over!! :) Warning: do not go through the haunted house with your cider drink, the monsters will drink some! I exited with at least half missing!! Darn thirsty zombies! Definitely catch the magic show, runs every hour, it was a nice break from the Hussal n bussle. The lines for the traitor, animals feeds, kids jumpy bumps, lines in general were line... Warning: get in, get going, and get out!! Packed!! Walked away with dozens of donuts and pie.....

Yelp
The leaves are turning colors, and the temperature of the air is becoming cooler. Halloween is just around the corner. People from many cities will congregate at this area to find the pumpkin. Goebbert's Farm is so congested that local officers are called in to help with traffic management. It's a good thing there's plenty of parking. From fresh veggies to handcrafted treats, this farm has everything you need. Their cherry and pumpkin pies are very wonderful. The farm has a variety of exciting activities for the whole family, as well as intriguing displays to take cool pictures of. I was captivated by the ambiance and forgot why I came here: to choose the perfect pumpkin. They have several sizes of pumpkins, and each pumpkin is color coded to determine the rate. Checking out can be a hassle, but they have a lot of active registers to help speed up the process, and employees is quite friendly. One of the ladies estimates the price, and she is correct; for a large pumpkin, the pricing is not bad. The worst thing is getting out of the parking place; I'm antsy because I just want to go home and enjoy their pies that I've bought. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely destination for the family and I'm glad it's only once a year thing because I detest crowded places. I know there are a lot of pumpkin farms in Illinois, so if you get the chance, go check them out and help support local businesses

Yelp
Our family has been enjoying weekends at Goebbert's for more more than 20 years. I walked up today in 2024 to join my family for lunch and it's $25 just to walk into the place. Sorry Goebbert's you're simply not worth it. You're dead to me.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Goebbert's Farm, and I had a blast even though it was chilly. There is a lot to do on this farm. It is very family-friendly. The admission price is different depending on whether you go during the week or weekend or if you purchase online versus in person. The cheapest way to go is during the week and purchase online. I went on a weekend, though, but even though it's an expensive admission fee, it covers a lot. The extra things you have to pay for are the camel ride and the kids jumping thing and food, of course. Goebberts has a market that you can roam about in. If you want to enter the farm, you have to have the wristband. The activities include a haunted house, corn maze, petting zoo, bubble area, basketball, cow train, candy canon (weekends), and plenty of spots to take pictures. The glazed and cinnamon apple donuts were absolutely delicious, and the apple cider with whipped cream was such a treat. Honestly, the reason I ended up at Goebberts was because I heard they had a giraffe. They are my favorite animals, and I loved being able to get up close and personal. It costs $4 for a feed cup, and I could have spent most of my day there. But occasionally, he would go back into his shelter for a while, so we explored. Overall, I absolutely loved this place. Could be biased because I love giraffes. I say everyone should take a chance during the fall season and visit!

Yelp
We got the chance to check out Goebberts for the first time with our boys. It was probably the coldest day we had in October and we definitely werent prepared for the cold weather. However, we still enjoyed our day. I loved that most of the activities were included in the price of admission. There were 3-4 attractions that were extra - like the pony rides and the jumping area. But most of the attractions were free. We got there around 10. That was the best decision we couldve made. It was still busy but the lines werent long. \ I appreciated that there was a section for older kids and one for younger kids. We explored both areas and found things to do for the toddlers on both sides. I liked that there were so many different activities and attractions from the train, to a bubble station, lots of animals, slides, corn mazes, and much much more. There was plenty of parking and even plenty of seating to enjoy food and snacks. You can even find food trucks inside if youre looking for tacos and other bites to eat. We tried their corn and donuts. Both were delicious. The kids loved the sweet corn so much we can to get 2! We only felt the need to leave earlier than expected because of the weather but we hope to be back next year when the kids are older. I know that they will definitely appreciate it more when they can truly take part in many more of the activities offered. Side note: Although theres an admission fee I thought that this was worth it since many of the other activities were included and free. Ive been to other pumpkin farms where every activity adds up and we end up spending way more than the $22 dollars/person we spent here.

Yelp
I'm a returning visitor and am very pleased to see how the place has improved this year- it seems much cleaner and not as crazy crowded. The lines aren't as bad and the workers were really helpful. The best part? The mommy & me shed! Nursing chairs, diaper station and even a sink to wash hands. We could stay much longer because I had a place to bring my newborn for a quick change and feed session out of the sun. We will be coming back!

Renata B.

Yelp
Stopped here today Haven't been for quite awhile RIDICULOUS pricing Over to Platt Hill

Yelp
Too much money for just waking with some pumpkins Shame on you Suppose to be enjoyable

Yelp
Love it here! Huge, lots of things to do to keep a toddler busy! We did the drive thru light show as well and it was pretty cool!

Yelp
had a blast here! there was a bit of traffic trying to park and i was ready to dread the crowd but once we entered it was pretty open and the kids had the most amazing time! of note we were here around 3 pm on a sunday. the only thing this place doesn't have is apple picking but they sold apples and apple everything else! i generally am not a fan of apple pie but they sell the most amazing caramel apple pie! toast it in the toaster oven at home and i just can't get enough! this placed was well organized, clean, lots of staff around. feeding the animals carrot sticks ( i like this much better than other places where they sold small round kibble-like food and the animals ate right out of your hand. was too scared they'd bite!). my favorite was the cow train ride (i mean my kids favorite.. yea). the wait isn't terribly long since there are 2 trains operating but it is so worth the wait and so fun! the ride is definitely bumpy and pretty fast. like a roller coaster ride! we absolutely loved it!! corn pit seems to be the highlight for most kids here! it's definitely dusty and gross but it's a giant sensory bin and all the kids love it highly recommended here! ps. get the caramel apple pie ( even though it's expensive and $25). totally worth it
google avatar

Embra B.

Yelp
Nice farm and garden for family and friends. The apple cider and apple cider donuts are delicious. Also check out the market for fresh produce!
google avatar

Charmaine D.

Yelp
This place was more amazing than I had thought it would be. This was the first time I've ever been to a pumpkin patch and now that I have a kid I thought it was time. I heard there was a corn maze and rides but omg... the amount of activities to do was overwhelming. From playing in corn to feeding animals to creating bubbles to seeing a magic show...I loved it all. So worth the money for a day of entertainment with a toddler.
google avatar

Nazia M.

Yelp
Great place! So much fun! Love their new park play area. Foods always good. Also love that they have a heated covered tent to eat and hang for awhile. I bf my baby so it was so nice to find a place, inside and warm to do that. They also have nursing station and baby diaper changing station too! It's great! Definitely go on the train ride. It's lots of fun. Love the dinosaur!
google avatar

Bob A.

Yelp
$24.00 just to walk in. No access to the food court unless you pay. As a disabled person who wants to sit down this is ridiculous.

Gigi G.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I was there this past Saturday, October 21, 2023. It was a chilly and windy day. I visited the animal farm. The poor exotic animals were not used to this cold weather. I wish I took a video, but the kangaroos were shivering. How can anyone be this heartless for profit? Needless to say, I will never visit or support Goebbert's again in any way, and I don't recommend supporting this business. It's 2023, how are they allowed to do this? There have been petitions going back to at least 2014 complaining about these conditions. Also, the $21 admission is overpriced.

Chris F.

Yelp
Very expensive just to get in. No clue whose idea it was to put a giraffe in a very small enclosure to where it can't move around, but common sense would suggest this is not good for the animal. Kangaroos were shivering (which I have seen people report before). The deflated hump on a camel might have been the saddest for me because this can indicate poor care of the animal in general. They had a baby bear die at this location a few years ago, there have been multiple petitions started to bring awareness to these issues, but supposedly they do this every year. What a shame to pay so much just to watch animals suffering.

Lynda B.

Yelp
Too expensive!! Have taken out sons every year when younger! Have taken out 6 Grandchildren for several years! WAS a family tradition! But, way too expensive!! $22 children 3 & up just to get in! Plus every attraction, things to do are $8 each per child! And pumpkins are way overpriced! I realize the owners have a lot of expenses, but come on stop GAUZING families!!!!!!! We had to disappoint our Grandchildren and tell them that Grandma and Grandpa CAN'T afford to take them anymore because We're on a fixed income

Dana L.

Yelp
Goebberts Farm is a wonderful experience for the community. Unfortunately, the cost for this experience is very costly. It excludes many because of the admission cost & extra's when planning a trip to the farm. It seems to check off every box for being simply a "money maker". Everything that a child can experience at Goebberts costs. Is Goebberts "Tax Exempt" as a farm? Does South Barrington subsidize Goebberts? Are they receiving any subsidies? I would ask the Community to ask these questions because Goebberts is excluding surrounding communities that would not have the funds nor opportunity to experience the Fall Farm Fest.
google avatar

Julie Y.

Yelp
Goebbert's reviews should not be this low. I had a blast here and the prices were extremely reasonable! I came during the week and I think that's why the prices were a bit lower. Also, I did not get a chance to try all of the food since it wasn't set up yet but ate at the cafe. Got a burger, juice box and mini pizza for $13 you shouldn't expect gourmet meal here but it was great! The activities are great for children and my nephew had such a great time. It was a nice place to take pictures and run around! While leaving picked up some candy corn and apple pie which only cost around $15. I had a wonderful time and so did my nephew, would recommend coming during the week so it's not that busy.
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
This is just not an enjoyable time because of so many factors. We went on a Sunday and expected it to be crowded, but it was absolutely insane. Wall to wall people everywhere. We didn't even wait in line for lunch because the line was at least over an hour just to get some basic food. Every attraction had a line or a crowd and all the attractions feel like they haven't had much thought put into them and rather thrown together. The pumpkins are just in bins and it feels like a place that is more concerned about getting your money than giving you a fun, fall environment. The whole atmosphere feels unorganized, and everything is spaced sporadically. The petting zoo is also very sad. These animals seem so sad and most are overcrowded in small pens that they stay in all day. Kangaroos, giraffes, and zebras have no business being here and it truly is just so sad. If you're looking for better fall fun locations, go to Bengstons, Jack's in Chicago, or County Line Orchard. They're more worth your money and actually put work and improvements in.
google avatar

Kyle H.

Yelp
Nice place, but I prefer the other Goebbert's for their Fall Fest. This location in Barrington is their garden center, and true to name had a lot of mums and fall decorations for your home and garden. For fall fest: - Pumpkin Crushing Dinosaur (truly the King of both fall fests, and a fan favorite!) - Giraffes and other African and exotic animals and birds (v. impressive) - Pig races - Kids' activities and bouncy pad! Great place to take kids (6 and under), as this location really has a lot more for kids. Parking here was easy. We did enjoy roasted corn, real apple cider, kettle corn, and if you're savvy to look for a bit- pumpkins were fairly affordable. While I love them, I opted not to purchase the overpriced package of apple cider doughnuts. Still, a good fall visit. You gotta go to Goebbert's!
google avatar

Ali B.

Yelp
Had a fun time visiting today! It was pretty busy here, but cool. I don't like that they have animals that probably shouldn't be here, like the giraffe. Otherwise it was a cool place. I got the specialty drink and we got through the line pretty quick and it was delicious! There's a good variety of pumpkins too!

LoveToReview P.

Yelp
DO NOT waste your money or time! So many reasons why I disliked this place. I've been to a few pumpkin and apple farms all were filled with green grass and so beautiful. The other places had many activities and the small animals were not jammed packed in a small space! This place was a jail for animals! It's so so sad! It made sick. They all looked sedated and hungry! And SOOO many animals with no room to even walk around. It was horrible!!! The rest of the place barely had any fun activities and all muddy and concrete. Definitely not a fun place for kids to run around. I left extremely upset about the entire experience. And this place was not cheap, tickets were $18 per person! I will NEVER be going back here and definitely do NOT recommend going here!

J. T. B.

Yelp
What a great place! We went to Goebbert's around Halloween and had a great time. We picked pumpkins and other fall decorations. And the pecan pies are amazing! We recently went there again. This time for a planter and plants for the front of our home. Wiki ("Vicky") was wonderful help for us! She listened and helped us find what we were looking for. She helped us choose a planter and plants. It was delivered and looks great. Goebbert's is our first choice for great plants, great people, holiday decorations, and pies.
google avatar

Nicole D.

Yelp
This place is amazing! We love everything about it! We live nearby and go there pretty often. They have very cute animals, fun attractions and fresh food! Can't wait you guys to reopen after the winter break! Our daughter is absolutely amazed by this farm!

Yelp
Goebbert's is a fabulous place to start your garden, of any size. They literally have almost anything you'd want to plant, and more. And shopping in an open, socially distanced environment with extremely helpful staff was a plus too. There are plenty of carts and convenient parking here too. We arrived here knowing exactly what we wanted to plant but found more we had to try this year, like chocolate mint, poblano peppers and a hibiscus plant that already displayed a gorgeous bloom. While our patio garden is very small and modest, we were very happy with the quality of the plants we brought home. And price wise, they are great looking plants and good sized compared to smaller herb or tomato plants I've purchased at Whole Foods for about a dollar more each plant. Now it will be fun to see which bloom first and are most fruitful. Thanks to Gobbert's for an easy breezy and successful shopping experience.

K S.

Yelp
They had the most lethargic animals I've ever seen. The giraffe and kangaroos looked sickly. Very little room to move. Ponies were chained up and looking terrible. I normally don't notice stuff like this, but I was legitimately concerned for those poor animals. I I won't be back. Looks like a bear cub died in 2015. Not surprising.

Yelp
Goebbert's is a huge place with a variety of pumpkins available for purchase, animals, a grocery store, and plenty of yummy fall things to eat like corn, candy apples, pie and hot cocoa. All available to eat right there with lots of seating to enjoy the food. There is always a TON of people here so I suggest going right when it opens. The corn was so good but they ran out around 5P, an hour before they close. It's a fun place to bring family, but it's not an actual farm or pumpkin patch. They have pumpkins available for purchase and there are animals, but they are brought over to this large area for the season. They have a camel there this year, which is not your typical farm animal. You have to wonder if the animals are treated well here...

Yelp
I used to come for the produce & flowers. The fall fest is a whole other story. The animals in the cages are just ridiculous. It is a fall fest.... not a zoo. There is no need for that. The poor giraffes can't even stand up fully since their enclosure is shorter than their length of their neck... Seeing the workers kick the pigs to move in the pig race really turned my family off, too. The entrance fee is $24, which is RIDICULOUS. We just wanted to get some fall drinks and snacks & can't even go in without paying $24!!! Never supporting this farm again. There are plenty of other ones without animal abuse and rip-off prices.

Yelp
Wonderful autumn experience. Love their pumpkins, crafts, foods, and friendly people.

Yelp
Basically a parking lot, with zero shade, decorated with fall stuff. Everything is very over priced. Pass.

Yelp
Rip off. They charge $24 and if you don't pay that then there's really nothing to do or see. I understand that this an opportunity to make some money but ripping people off is a bad thing for your place.

Yelp
Are you in the Chicagoland area and want to create a fun, memory filled tradition? If so, come to Goebbert's in the Fall! It's really not too far away but you'll feel like you're in Wisconsin (well, just a little bit). You'll see that it's a pretty huge place to wander around and it has plenty of parking - there's always a parade of cars entering and leaving. But don't be concerned, S. Barrington 5-0 is there onsite to direct traffic. It's hard to believe that Goebbert's was even bigger before they sold their land to give way to the huge mansions that are at the edge of their property. Once inside, there are a ton of foodie favorites for me - the cider donuts (glazed or sugared), the cider and my all time Fall craving - thee freshly grilled corn with butter. The buttery, sweet and smokey hot bites of corn, mixed with Autumn air, you just can't replicate that. There's an abundance of pies (no sweet potato though), jellies and jams. Check out the map (it's a huge place), pick out a pumpkin or two, visit the haunted house, ride a camel or go for a hay ride - there's a lot to do. Fyi, you have to pay an extra fee to go into the kids area now, this wasn't the case before. And there you go, everlasting memories, thank you Goebbert's!!!

Yelp
ANIMAL ABUSERS - you disgust me! I do not give one star lightly. Besides the $22 outrageous entrance fee, very poor layout and insanely overpriced food/drink I was SO SAD to see beautiful exotic animals trapped in super small dirty pens with not enough room and insane crowds touching them and petting them. Let me tell you - it's obvious the animals are in distress and miserable. This is animal abuse & if you look them up, a bear cub died there in 2015. Appears to be what was a nice family business turned into a very greedy and dirty business.

Yelp
We liked the start of our visit. It's a cute farm during the opening weekend of Fall Fest so we were excited. My kids (5 and 3) loved the big wooden play set and the magician show was good. Those were the only two things we got to enjoy before my kids jumped into the corn pit and were immediately covered in dust. I noticed it isn't just corn in there, it has a fine grayish powder or dust all throughout the corn as well. My 5 year old son had a blast with his best friend. My 3 year old daughter had fun but almost immediately started scratching all over. She came out with hives all over her body. The hives started getting worse and starting to turn into welts, they were all over her skin. My husband and I stripped off all her clothes since they were completely filthy with the dust and took her to wash off her skin with soap and water at the hand washing station outside the portapottys. We've been in corn pits before, at Bengston's for example, and never saw any dust in the corn pit at all, no reactions at all to corn pits before at all either. There was another parent at the hand washing station who also stripped his daughter down and was washing her with soap and water also who said they had the same problem, I saw that her skin had redness from the corn pit too. I asked a worker what is in the dust/powder and he said it's corn nothing else mixed in. My daughter is not allergic to corn, so that doesn't make sense. There must be something in the dust/corn like the ground up husk with a fertilizer or something. Some kind of irritant to cause her skin to react like that. I'm a nurse and gave her Benadryl, a steroid, and albuterol and she recovered well by the time we got her in the car. We were thinking she may need urgent care but after the steroid she stopped progressing and started to improve. I thought the staff responded well to our situation while it was occurring, offered us a free Goebbert's T shirt since I didn't have a change of clothes for her, gave us a bottle of water for her, etc. they were nice and accommodating. I just want to raise the issue of that dust/powder in case other parents have kids with potentially sensitive skin. Don't let them in that corn pit. Otherwise nice Fall Festival for kids.

Yelp
This place is an absolute rip off! $22 to get in per person for what!? I used to come with my kids when they were young. My husband and I wanted to come just to but some things but not willing to pay $44 and then more on the over priced items. We won't be back and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! It's really a shame that it's all about making a buck and no longer about family enjoyment.

Yelp
Dear Holly, I believe you are being a little cruel when you are not allowing us to host my 1 year old's birthday party under $500. We asked if you can allow us to bring a cake or cupcake soley for him and you said no because we have security regulating everything, and you need to have a tent to host a party. We just wanted to go to the cafe, you said that we cannot go to the cafe because everyone in the cafe needs access to it using a wrist band at a whopping $22 a person. We only have 10 persons, 1 child and 1 child under 1 included. You are being cruel and saying packages for birthdays with cakes are $500 and we are business. This is NOT friendly to all families and you are not allowing each family the opportunity to visit the farm and enjoy their day. Not only this, but the attitude you possess is not friendly too. You were so strict about saying we can't bring a cake or even a cupcake but yet you allow people to bring a cake or cupcake ONLY upon purchasing a package of $500 in wrist bands and up! We could have at least bought wrist bands for our ten people, but you would want us to pay double this just to enter with a birthday cake. How rude, and we have found that at Sonny Acre Farms, they have a host friendly to all! Sonny Acre Farms is where we decided to go instead of this farm which you over exaggerated the security level as we had been there the year before and we appreciate your phone call shooing us away, and thank you that you gave us the opportunity to find Sonny Acre Farms. We will gladly go with our family to a place that is friendly, fun, and has way more attractions than just hay rides! Sonny Acre Farms also has a corn maze and tons of rides like an amusement park and petting zoos galore- I am so glad God lead me to Sonny Acre Farms instead! Thanks

Yelp
More a place for children than for any age. I was expecting more attractions for people at least older than 9. The corn maze was sad but not as sad as the animals in their cramped cages. I usually don't mind an open petting zoo but this was pretty sad the conditions the animals were in. Also many exotic ones, I thought this was a pumpkin farm not Tiger King. Food was decent. Pizza is probably best item for the dollar. Mac and cheese was pretty good. You can tell they are short staffed. Waited at least an hour in line to get food at one point. Not surprised since there's only 2 cashiers who just do payments and 2 "servers" (take orders and plate food on tray) for the 50+ people in line. TLDR: decent place for kid attractions, and Netflix's new spot for a documentary

Yelp
Been coming here for years, always something nice to see and buy. I only come during Halloween though. Pumpkin selection is huge! They have a cute haunted house during Halloween, the pig races are cute to watch. The petting zoo was fun, I got to hold a lion cub!!! Also fed a giraffe, that was beyond awesome. Mind you this was pre-covid year. I just never wrote a review. I was not able to come back last year, maybe this year if everything settles down. It was always packed! Children everywhere. And since kids tend to touch everything and carry diseases LOL I am staying away from children infested spots hahahaha Sorry it's true!!

Yelp
I can't believe we visited this place. I thought the only animals they would have would be your typical farm animals. My fault for not researching it better. I cannot believe they've got African animals here. Where do they go to run, get away from the cold, etc? We don't go to zoos for this reason and we'll never go back to this place. We also found out about where they get their exotic animals. Awful. Shame on us and Goebbert's.

Yelp
Don't take your family here! Animal abuse for peoples amusement!? Boycotting all Goebbert's barrington and pioneer grove! The animals are being kept in tiny cages, they are suffering from malnutrition, some can barely walk, and they are dying! This is unacceptable! I understand that this patch has been open for years and can be a tradition for families, but this is not okay to support, by giving them your money you are part of the problem! Please please do your research before supporting this.

Yelp
What a disgrace this place is. Dirty, crowded and overpriced. There's also no parking lots so they make you park on gravel roads far away so if you have a disability or are elderly you're screwed. Their main goal is to make a profit. They don't care about customer service. Then there's the clearly neglected and abused animals. It's so sad to see these ponies being overworked for hours just walking around and around in circles endlessly with no real break or access to water. How the owners of this farm would think that's ok is beyond me but I won't take my kids here ever again. I do NOT recommend this dump.
