The Best Scorched Rice Dishes in London Restaurants | Eater London

"Korean bar and grill Gogi sits on the canal in London’s Little Venice. The restaurant has the industrial-chic look of the year it opened: 2013. That means black leather banquettes, exposed red brick, and a strong window-to-wall ratio. The silver hoods looming over each table aren’t merely aesthetic, though. They are part of an elaborate extraction system that runs throughout the dining room keeping things cool. For the tabletop Korean barbecue, there are beef and seafood platters ideal for sharing. Solo diners, vegetarians and scorched rice lovers need not be put out, though. With the hotplate directly to hand, Gogi’s dolsot bibimbap promises a good nurungji. There’s a fair choice of toppings, ranging from kimchi or tofu to raw beef." - Hester van Hensbergen

Where To Eat In West London (If You Hate West London) - London - The Infatuation

"When you think of Little Venice you’ll probably think about canals, river boats, and toddlers that are dressed far better than you. And dogs that are dressed better than you too. Gogi is a laidback Korean spot that you should absolutely go to when you’re in the area. This place has personal barbecues on their tables, a long menu of meat and vegetable options to grill tableside, as well as classics like tempura, dumplings, and seafood pancakes. Don’t miss their dolsot bibimbap served in traditional stone pots with everything from tofu, kimchi, to raw beef." - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Jake Oliver, Eileen Twum

Gogi Review - Little Venice - London - The Infatuation

"When you think of Little Venice you’ll probably think about canals, river boats, and toddlers that are dressed far better than you. And realistically, dogs that are dressed better than you too. When you’re in the part of London though, you should definitely go to Gogi. This laidback Korean spot has personal barbecues on their tables, a long menu of meat and vegetable options to grill tableside, as well as classics like tempura, dumplings, and seafood pancakes. Don’t miss their dolsot bibimbap served in traditional earthware pots with everything from tofu, kimchi, to raw beef." - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Authentic Korean Flavors & Warm Hospitality I recently dined at Gogi and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with a modern yet traditional Korean feel. The food was absolutely delicious — everything was packed with bold, authentic flavors. I ordered Korean BBQ, and was exceptional. Service was excellent. The staff were attentive, friendly, and more than happy to explain dishes to us. You could tell they take pride in their food and genuinely care about their customers’ experience. Whether you’re new to Korean cuisine or a longtime fan, this place is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!

My son celebrated the birthday here and he loves it. We have been here for quite a few times, they change the menu and we still love it especially the japchae. We came here this time as they have special 30% discount of the food. We order a bottle of wine and some drinks and barbecue food.

Fantastic dinner at Gogi Korean BBQ! The beef bulgogi and pork belly were full of flavour, especially when wrapped in fresh lettuce with all the tasty sides. Plus, they’ve got a great deal of 20% off on week nights! Highly recommend for a delicious and fun Korean BBQ night out

Google
best rose tteokbokki in london if you ask me! the BBQ isn’t my favourite, but all the menu otherwise is exquisite. service is fast, staff lovely, and the price fairly alright. 20min away from regent’s park, it’s the best post lunch walk. our local go-to!

I had an amazing Valentine’s Day lunch at Gogi in Little Venice, London with my wife. From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. We were impressed by the unique dining experience – the Korean grill in the middle of the table added a fun and interactive element to our meal. The menu, complete with beautiful photographs of each dish, made choosing our courses a delight. We started with a Beef Spicy Bao and a delicious beef tartare, followed by a sharing plate of spicy meat that was absolutely superb. To finish, we indulged in two delightful desserts: a refreshing matcha mochi and an incredibly tasty sweet potato cheesecake. The bill was perfectly in line with the quality and quantity of food and drinks, making it a great value for money. Overall, every aspect of our experience was excellent, and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!

Google
Overall, a great experience. The food was absolutely delicious! The bibimbap was a personal favourite. However, I did experience a bit of disappointment with the service. Towards the end of our meal, the staff seemed to rush us out, which took away from the overall experience. Despite this, the food was so good that it made up for the service issue. I’ll definitely be back for the fantastic food, but I hope the service improves next time!

I recently had an amazing lunch experience at Gogi! The pork belly and BULGOGI especially when paired with fresh lettuce, was absolutely delicious. The service was exceptional; the staff were very friendly and attentive. Additionally, the restaurant is wheelchair accessible, making it a great choice for everyone. Highly recommend!

Google
Good quality Korean BBQ restaurant. Food are fresh and served with good portions. Atmosphere is good as they play k-pop in the background. Though the restaurant is a bit small, and you are sitting very closely to other people. If you want some privacy or even a chat with your friends, I wouldn’t suggest this restaurant to have a catch up when you are dining in. Me and my friends keep shouting at each other as we can’t hear anything beside other people’s conversations and the background music.

Yelp
Been here several times over the past 4 years, and have enjoyed myself each and every time. The servers and bartenders are always very polite and respectful, tables are always clean, and the food is always delightful. The restaurants' ambiance is always very pleasant, full of families and couples having a great time. The food is always great, and is served on time. However, my only critique about Gogi is that almost every time I've been they've either been "out of stock" or not serving the drinks from the mocktail menu.

Yelp
Good Korean BBQ with good food, nice ambient, and friendly service although a bit lost sometimes. I shared some Dduk Bok Gi (rice cake) as appetizer and then the BBQ Premium Platter and some further spicy chicken BBQ. Everything was good and service was friendly although sometimes a bit unclear of what was still missing.

Yelp
Got takeaway late at night. Pretty quick delivery. Food was warm. The hot pot bulgogi was delicious - broth was similar to galbitang. The bibimbap was also very solid. Loved the quail eggs in the tteokbokki. Valid Korean food all around.

Yelp
great decor and good service. came here on a Monday around 7. was not full but busy. food is below average Korean food. had the japchae and soondobu. japchae noodles had a very elastic texture. I would not recommend this. soondobu jiggae was okay. will need to try the bbq next time. prices are quite high though. 11 pounds for a soondobu is quite expensive. 8 pounds for the beef japchae. it was about 23pounds for a starter, main, and drink for one person. that's just too expensive. portions are not that big as well. and no free side dishes aka banchan.. I come from Toronto, and all the Korean places here have free side dishes. gogi even charges for kimchi. that's just unacceptable. I would be hesistent to recommend this place. its advertised as the best korean restaurant by londonist...I doubt that.

Yelp
We heard about Gogi from a friend who lives in Maida Vale and was excited to try it, but unfortunately was disappointed. Food: We ordered the spicy squid and tang su yuk for starters. Both were just ok. The spicy squid portion wasn't big, but wasn't small. The tang su yuk pieces and portion of the dish were very small. For our main entrée we ordered two orders of the bulgalbi which again was also small. The meat tasted good and was BBQ'd on the table. For our side dishes, we ordered kimchi, one bowl of bap (rice) and one ssangchu which is the lettuce for the BBQ. Drinks: We ordered two bellini spritz which tasted like cough syrup with sparkling water. We could barely drink them so we ordered one diet coke and just tap water. Price: 71.70 GBP for two people - totally overpriced. Ambiance: The restaurant is a nice size and clean. The good thing is that they have the BBQ on every table. It's very dark and has red accents and lights around which seems like they're trying to create a club feel in a way. Overall, it doesn't have a feel or a vibe unfortunately. Service: The service was curt and not friendly. I received a call to confirm my reservation earlier in the day where the manager 1) told me that they only hold the tables for 15 minutes and 2) that they needed the table back by 9.00 PM. Our reservation was at 7.30 PM. After she heard my reply of "Oh ok, I didn't know that when I booked the reservation" she dismissed my comment and said, "See you later tonight". I was turned off before even going to dinner by the call. The manager who called also waited on us and wasn't friendly at all. She rushes you and makes you feel very uncomfortable. They also don't take American Express and she was very rude about giving us the information. Lastly, I was so annoyed because the restaurant was close to empty after telling us we had to give up our table by 9.00 PM. Would I go back? No. Gogi isn't that good and has mediocre service. They should be ashamed charging 3.50 for kimchi, 2.50 for bap and 3.50 for ssangchu. It's lettuce for heaven's sakes.

Yelp
Their service is so poor, that I will never go back. Their waiters are so poor at speaking English that they served us Spicy Pork when we ordered Spicy Chicken. We don't eat pork and never in my life have I eaten pork, until now, thanks to Gogi. When we accused them of getting the order wrong, they refuse to comp the meal (we had beef in addition). They figured they can take off the pork from the bill and that's that! They should be shut down! If I had nothing better to do, I would actually take them to court. When I left, I went home and made myself vomit.

Yelp
We had beef tartare to start with, meat was nicely done tho pear wasn't juicy enough. Shared bbq meat platter, bbq seafood platter and two portions of bbq pork with lettuce wraps and vegetable platter. BBQ was nice, it was done on the table (except the vegetables) but doesn't smell that much. Each portion was a bit small... Also shared 2 spicy beef soup and spicy seafood soup and cakes between the 5 of us. Soups were nice tho cakes wasn't fresh enough (soufflé didn't have the chocolate melt, berry cake had BERY frozen fruit on top). Overall came up to £40 per person. I would say slightly pricy for the amount of food - considering we shared a lot of food so portion size wasn't big, if anyone come as 2 ppl, their bill would be way higher (I would probably pay £30-35 for this much food).

Yelp
Someone had recommended this... and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Ordered their top two cuts of meat, and they were both chewy and it was measly portions. And never -- and I mean NEVER -- have I paid for kimchee and other banchan, especially to the tune of 14 pounds! I don't like to leave poor reviews, but I am a connoisseur of Korean dining, and I feel ripped off and dissatisfied. My small measure of vengeance: An honest and objective review

Yelp
We really enjoy this little local gem, whether dining in or taking out, their dishes are spot on. We recently had friends visiting from the States and they had never tried Korean food before, and they all (all 5 of of them) absolutely loved it. My personal favorite is their Bibimbap--perfectly prepared with a nice crunch on the rice as you reach the bottom of all that goodness while finishing your bowl, and served with a lovely Sriracha-like sauce on the side. Gogi also serves delicious and beautifully presented cocktails. I dine here regularly for both lunch and dinner, and the staff is very accommodating for last minute reservations (they were a life saver when we had a party of 8 visiting). Also, be sure to try their dumplings...yum!

Yelp
I really enjoyed the meal here. My partner took me here for my birthday, as I really wanted Korean, and he'd heard good things about this place. We started with the tofu appetiser - fried tofu with a light soy sauce - which was good, not great. I didn't love the texture of the tofu in this dish. We then had three dishes for the main: two BBQ dishes - beef (bulgogi) and chicken (soy) - and a vegetable dumpling soup. I ended up eating almost all the soup because my partner doesn't eat mushrooms and the bowl was overwhelmingly filled with mushrooms. There was just no way to eat around them. The broth was good, and the dumplings weren't bad. It was just not what I really wanted, I guess. The BBQ dishes were both really good, though I preferred the chicken (partner preferred the beef). They take care of cooking it for you, and are attentive and unobtrusive about it. For dessert, I really wanted to try to cheesecake but they were out, so I tried the traditional Korean dessert which reminded me of mochi filled with chocolate. I would have liked it, but there was too much chocolate and it was too rich - all I got, flavorwise, was thick chocolate with a hint of chewiness from the moch-like texture around it. That said, I thought everything was good - just not necessarily to my taste that night - so I'll definitely plan to return.

Yelp
Nice Korean venue - opened in 2013 so the interior is clean and modern. It is ran by a Korean business which runs toast and maguro in the area. Food is also good - quite authentic and good flavours in the most of the dishes. Down side?! Atmosphere - service is quite prompt but not friendly... This weird cold undertone is consistent through their venues. Serving staffs feel rather cold and it is not a feel good place - in fact, dinning out feels quite mechanical... I am not a huge fan for this reason... I have tried and all quite nice although they do have some off days... Pah jang Soft tofu chighe Yookhe jang All sides and rice need to be ordered which is common in London but I wish a neighbourhood joint like this serves food in true Korean style...

Yelp
I haven't found any good Korean BBQ place in the city, so when my friend recommended this place, I tracked all the way to Edgware Road from Shoreditch! And I don't think it was worth the trip. First off, it is a long walk from the Tube station and really hard to find. The interior is quite contemporary looking and fancy. Though it is a BBQ place, it doesn't smell strong burnt meat as some Korean places, thanks to the super powerful vent on top of each of the table grill. It is a nice place, but the food didn't measure up. To start, my friend and I ordered seafood pancake, Jap Chae and some kimchi. All the good Korean restaurants or the more authentic ones, will give you a few small plates of appetizers, pickled cucumbers, fermented beans, kimchi, etc., but at Gogi, we got nothing. The Jap Chae was good, but the seafood pancake was just OK. I think I can do a better pancake. For the grill we ordered Bulgalbi, bone in beef short rib and pork belly. The portions here were quite small, which wasn't too bad for us, as neigh my friend nor me wanted to over eat. However, for guys, you probably should budget for 2 plates of meat per person. The server cooked the meat for us at the table and then cut it up into small pieces. I am not sure if the short rib meat was too thin or what, I found the meat to be dry and slightly rubbery, not the fatty and juicy bits I remember from other restaurants. At the very end, we got some vegetable Bibimbap which was very mediocre. I have confidence that there are much better Korean BBQ places in the city, and I will find it. That means, I will not be coming back here.

Yelp
My colleagues and I went to Gogi for my bday, and I was quite impressed! My first impression was that this is a place that focuses on its core (i.e., food) while being simple and down to earth on other things (e.g., interior decor). Second, their menu covers quite a spectrum, ranging from simple dishes (e.g., jjigae's, pancakes) to relatively fancier ones (e.g., bossam, variety of BBQ). Third, all their dishes are actually solid. For example, jabchae (glass noodle with veggies and beef) is a dish that some restaurants oftentimes don't put in enough effort and get wrong; however, Gogi got it down pretty well in all its elements (minus the slightly overcooked noodles with too little oil, ending in noodles sticking together). Finally, their drinks and desserts are legitimate as well; we had berry soju and a selection of different pastries for desserts, and we enjoyed them just as much as our main meal. All around a solid Korean place in a beautiful neighborhood. As a Korean, I'd recommend the place for sure.

Yelp
If you are first time here, I recommend a Galbitang. Pretty darn tasty. I am a Korean.

Yelp
This is an amazing Korean experience! I've been to the place a few times and would give it 5 stars every time. We always go for seafood pancake Pa Jaon (more like a omelette) and assorted pickles to start, mixed BBQ and Bibimbap. Good is great, very tasty and nicely spiced. Very social experience, will not disappoint!

Yelp
Wonderful Korean restaurant near the canal of little Venice. Great ambience, delicious food but a little pricey though.

Yelp
Absolutely love this spot for traditional Korean BBQ. Great walk from Paddington station along the water, to enjoy looking at the houseboats. Service is no-nonsense but that is typical of a Korean BBQ (based on my experience visiting Seoul). They also have grapefruit soju and Hite beers.

Yelp
I've been wanting Korean food for a while now, and found this place close to my work which suited me as I work late and don't fancy coming into town at the weekends. The place smelled really good and by 8:30 I was ready to dig into a dish that'd warm me up from the inside. I ordered the veg bibimbap as it was on the menu and it was good. It lacked a little bit of salt and the chilli sauce wasn't as hot as I'd expected but other than that it was delicious. The rice was lovely and crispy and the vegetables were perfect. It wasn't as full of vegetables as I'd expected it to be and as the picture on the menu showed, so by the end of the meal I wasn't very full. In future, I would order it with an egg. I'd like to try one of the bibimbap places in London to compare the dish.

Yelp
Good, delicious food but staff is unfriendly and not efficient. I've asked a starter which never came.

Yelp
Love Korean good and have eaten it all over the world, including 2 1/2 years living in Korea. This is easily the most bizarre place I have ever been to. In Korean cuisine you always get Banchan or side dishes as part of the meal. Here everything was extra. You get pork barbecue for 9 pounds, then kimchi for 3, asst sides for 5 rice for 3 lettuce leaves3 onion salad 3 all of a sudden hour 9 pound meal is 25 pounds. Would be so much nicer if they just charged 25 pounds and made you feel like you got all this free stuff. Then the food itself. It was mediocre at best. Don't understand how busy this place is, service and food were just not that good. Nice restaurant that has spent some nice money inside, but the whole picture blurs with the results.

Yelp
Very good food. I have been 4 times and I am Alwayes happy about the food and the service. Really recommend it.
