25 Top Restaurants in Jersey City - Eater NY

"Open for six years, Golconda Chimney — named after a Hyderabad landmark that was once the seat of a sultanate and center for the diamond trade — offers the food of the high-tech city, including biryanis, Indo-Chinese dishes, tandoori specialties, and street snacks as well as vegetarian and non-vegetarian main options. The kitchen does wonders with goat — roasting, stewing, skewering, currying, and even using the animal’s feet in a goat paya soup. Other menu highlights include chicken gongura and Malabar fish curry." - Robert Sietsema

When we entered the restaurant, we were advised by another customer that the food is good but don’t expect much from services, also has a lot of wait to get food and bill. I agree to the point that the food is really good. We ordered veg dum biryani and gobhi 65, whereas friends ordered chicken dum biryani. All was alike the taste in Hyderabad and similar in spice level. I also had buttermilk and it was ok. The service was ok, we didn’t have delays for order or bill payment. The surrounding or ambience was ok and a bit noisy being rush dinner hour over weekend. I recommend the restaurant.

Absolutely loved the Chef Special Chicken Biryani at Golconda Chimney! The flavors were spot on – rich, aromatic, and perfectly spiced without being too heavy. The chicken was juicy and cooked just right, blending beautifully with the long-grain basmati rice. It really had that authentic Hyderabadi touch. The portion size was generous too, making it totally worth the price. If you’re a biryani lover, this is one dish you must try. Highly recommended!

I had a very disappointing and disturbing experience with my recent food order. I had ordered **Paneer Biryani** and **Gobi Manchurian**, expecting a satisfying vegetarian meal. However, both dishes were completely unacceptable. To begin with, I found **hair strands** in both the biryani and the Manchurian. This is extremely unhygienic and raises serious **food safety concerns**. As a **pure vegetarian**, this was already distressing, but what shocked us even more was finding a **piece of chicken** in the **Paneer Biryani**. We had placed our order with high hopes, especially for the Paneer Biryani, but this experience was not just disappointing — it was deeply unsettling. For people who follow a strict vegetarian diet, this kind of mistake is not only careless but also offensive. I sincerely urge the restaurant and the food delivery platform to look forward into this regarding hygiene practices and food segregation protocols. Incidents like this are unacceptable and must be treated seriously to ensure the safety and trust of customers.

I was really looking forward to trying Golconda Chimney after hearing about their authentic Indian cuisine, but unfortunately, our experience was nothing short of a disaster. We placed a large order and explicitly requested everything to be mild, as I was dining with my husband, who is from India and is used to authentic spice levels. However, what we received was the exact opposite-almost every dish was painfully spicy, to the point that even he couldn't eat it. Our Order: 1. Chicken Manchow Soup (Mild) - This was supposed to be a comforting and flavorful soup, but instead, it was extremely spicy. Despite requesting mild, the spice level was through the roof. It was so overpowering that we couldn't even get through a few spoonfuls. The heat completely masked any flavor the soup might have had. 2. Chicken Dum Biryani - We expected a fragrant, perfectly cooked biryani, but what we got was a dry, overly spicy dish that lacked the depth and complexity a good biryani should have. Even the raita that came with it couldn't cut through the overwhelming heat. 3. Goat Dum Biryani - Another disappointment. The goat was tough and overcooked. Once again, despite requesting mild, the spice level was off the charts. 4. Butter Chicken - This was perhaps the most shocking of all. For $21, we received 6 small pieces of chicken drowned in an overly rich, spicy sauce that had no balance. Butter chicken should be creamy, mildly spiced, and packed with subtle flavors, but this dish missed the mark completely. Not only was it overpriced, but the heat was overpowering. 5. Malai Methi Murg - This dish was an oily nightmare. There was so much oil floating on top that it was difficult to even stir the curry. The excessive oiliness made it feel heavy and greasy, and once again, the spice level was beyond what we had requested. 6. Garlic Naan & Butter Naan - The only redeeming part of the meal.
Both types of naan were fresh, soft, and well-prepared. But let's be honest-good naan isn't enough to salvage an otherwise terrible meal. The Biggest Disappointment: What made this experience even more frustrating was that everything except the naan was ordered "mild." Despite our clear request, every dish came out overwhelmingly spicy, leaving us unable to enjoy any of the food. My husband, who grew up eating authentic Indian cuisine, couldn't even tolerate the heat. Waste of Money and Food: After attempting to salvage the meal, we had no choice but to throw everything away. The entire order went straight into the garbage. It was disheartening to see so much food wasted, but the spice level was unbearable, and the oiliness in some dishes made them completely inedible. Overpriced and Undelivered: For the price we paid, I expected much better quality and attention to detail. The portion sizes were small, the dishes lacked balance, and the spice levels were far beyond what we had requested. It's one thing to have a dish that's a little spicier than expected, but this was extreme and completely ruined the meal. Final Verdict: I had high hopes for Golconda Chimney, but after this experience, I won't be giving them another chance. The lack of attention to detail, inability to adjust spice levels, and overpriced dishes left me highly disappointed. I would not recommend this restaurant if you're looking for flavorful, balanced Indian cuisine. UPDATE Golconda Chimney responded to my review stating that “someone from the restaurant would reach out to me.” Unfortunately, to date, I have not received any email, text, or phone call. It’s disappointing to receive what now appear to be empty words. The situation could have been handled with more sincerity and accountability. If there was no genuine intent to follow up, it would have been more respectful not to make that promise. Weeks have passed, and there has still been no communication.

Had a really good dinner at Golconda Chimney. The food was fresh, super tasty, and felt like real Indian home food. We started with the Karam Idli – soft, a bit spicy, and came with some really good chutneys. The Pesarattu was crispy and light, and the sambar on the side hit the spot. We also got the 555 Chicken – so flavorful and crispy, definitely one of the best dishes we had. For mains, we had Bagara Rice with Goat Curry. The goat was tender and the curry had such good flavor. The bagara rice was just perfect with it. Tried the Chole Bature too – the bature was huge and fluffy, and the chole was warm and comforting. Ended the meal with their Irani Chai – strong and really flavorful. It was the perfect finish. Would definitely recommend this place.

Went there for dinner on a Friday night at around 630pm and immediately got a seat. The service staff were all very friendly and approachable. We ordered the mango lassi, chef’s special goat biryani, chole poori, garlic naan, and butter chicken. The food came really quickly and the portions were HUGE. Everything was well seasoned and we could taste the richness of the spices. Will totally come back again when we’re in the area !

We came here as a group of 6 and everything was SO good! Big portions, full of flavor, and the service was great too.We started with Karam Dosa and Keema Dosa—both were crispy and HUGE, and came with 3 chutneys + sambar. Super tasty and fresh. We also shared the Lamb Biryani and Chef’s Special Chicken Biryani—both were super flavorful and cooked just right. Lamb was soft and the chicken had a nice spice. The Butter Chicken was creamy and rich, and their Garlic Naan was soft and buttery—perfect with the curry. To finish, we had Irani Chai—so good! Warm, strong, and slightly sweet. Just perfect after a big meal. The vibe inside was chill and welcoming. Staff were friendly and helped us pick a few things from the menu too.everything tasted great, portions were big, and the food came out fast. Definitely recommend Golconda Chimney and we’ll be back soon!

Google
Felt really bad for the guy working here the same guy taking order, cleaning table, giving out delivery orders, taking phone orders I hope the management will do something about this. Giving this 3 star rating only for that guy. Also the food took forever to get to the table guess the same might the situation with the kitchen team as well. I have been here on a weekday and it was busy. Food was okay not that great.

Yelp
Continuing my gastronomic tour of Little India in Jersey City landed me at Golconda Chimney. Golconda specializes in Indian fare of the Hyderabadi variety. Golconda appears unassuming from the outside, but the interior is welcoming, quiet and offers a slightly more formal dining experience. But, I however, stopped in for take out. I ordered samosa chaat, chicken biryani, naan and a lassi. The food came out quicker than I expected however didn't seem to suffer in quality. I really loved the food here. The flavors are complex and not muddled. The rice was fluffy and not oily. And the presentation and packaging done with care. I should warn those of you who may be more susceptible, the default spiciness level of the food seems to be in the medium-hot level so adjust you order accordingly. I would definitely eat here again and likely dine in given the ambiance of the restaurant. 9.5/10

Yelp
I only ordered the Irani chai after looking at the Irani chai poster hanging outside the restaurant. It was the best chai I have had in a long time and I am a very picky chai drinker and I make very good chai. Irani chai is straight forward and simple: more milk that black tea with the milk cooked to sweetness. I would definitely hit the spot, especially in fall/ winter or summer.

Yelp
"Golconda Chimney at India Square in Jersey City is a great place for tasty Irani chai. The chai has a special Hyderabadi flavor that I really liked. Not to mention ambience here was really good and I'll definitely be back for more of their delicious Irani chai!"

Yelp
This was a decent choice for Indian food. We had aloo papdi chaat, gobi manchurian, dal pancharatan, shahi paneer, vegetable biryani, and Irani chai. The highlights were definitely the chai and biryani for the tasty blends of spices in each. The prices were reasonable.

Yelp
Super bakwas service. Too 45 min to serve papri chat. Too many mosquitoes and table were dusty

Yelp
3.5 stars for friendly service and filling my long-standing craving for baingan bharta (roasted eggplant cooked with masala spices, onion, tomato, and yogurt). I first tried a couple of different places on Newark Avenue, but they didn't have baingan bharta. Fortunately, I then found Golconda Chimney. It was late on a weekend, so the buffet looked like a tornado had hit, with many earlier visitors clearly enjoying it. I guessed that the buffet items had been out for a while and instead opted to order a la carte from the menu. I started with a sweet corn soup (vegetarian) that was very tasty and filling, then proceeding to the object of my craving: baingan ka bharta. Golconda Chimney's version had excellent flavor and large eggplant chunks, with a moderate spice profile. Rice on the side was just fine. Bottled water was all I needed to fend off thirst and spices, maybe next time a mango lassi. Service was relaxed and friendly. It was late afternoon and the dining room was mostly empty. Atmosphere is minimalist, perhaps could use a bit more decor. The dining room was clean, but the bathrooms could use more cleaning and air freshener. All in all, Golconda Chimney is a nice place to eat heartily on the busy Newark Avenue India Square strip.

Yelp
Food (5/5): I go here frequently due to their partnership with Seated and being one of the few good restaurants that partner with them in the area. So whenever Seated has a promo, they're the go to since the other Seated restaurants in the area are terrible. Having tried many of their dishes on the menu, most are high quality, flavorful and delicious. My favorites are Chicken 65, Samosa Chaat, Butter Chicken, Moong Dal Halwa, and Goat Rogan Gosh. They also have delicious naan and Hakka noodles. Venue (5/5): Spacious venue with plenty of seating. Reasonably clean and comfortable. They host a buffet for lunch which tend to have good quality and options. Service (4/5): Usually helpful service who give water when I'm waiting for take out. They could be friendlier and sometimes the takeout takes a while or I have to call to confirm the order, but overall I haven't had any major issues with them.

Yelp
For my first time in little India, I was blown away by how many restaurant options there were and got a little overwhelmed, so my friend and I went into one of the first sit down restaurants that we saw. I tried the Malai tomato soup as an appetizer and it was so delicious, literally the best tomato soup I've had in my life! My friend ordered the samosas and said that they were great. For my main, I asked for a fish curry suggestion and I let out server know that I was looking for something spicy. He said he'd ask what the kitchen had and I let him know that any of them would be alright. I thought he'd come back and let me know, but instead they chose for me and my I ended up with Andhra Fish Curry which was very good, full of flavor and spices, but not spicy which was the only disappointment. I was still happy to try something new that I wouldn't have normally ordered. The garlic naan was great, my friend enjoyed her chicken Tikka Masala, and I'd come back here in a heartbeat even if just to have the Malai tomato soup again.

Yelp
Little India in NJ is such a blessing for Indian food and culture lovers like myself. I stopped in Golconda because as I walked up the strip it was one of the more full restaurants. In fact some people were eating with their hands lol. I said to my self that more than one person scraping the plate with their hands can only be a good sign. It was. The food was similar to other good Indian restaurants I've tried but all the flavors were turned up a notch. I started off with the Golbi Manchurian a sort of general tso's cauliflower. It was good but because it was so heavily sauced it lost its crispiness almost immediately. Next up was the aloo chaat. A cold potato chickpea yogurt and tamarind dish that was really good. Its always a good change of pace from the spicy dishes. After that I had some tandoori chicken, shrimp biryani, and a chicken dish I cant really remember the name of. The tandoori was good but a bit over done for sure. The biryani was awesome. One of the best I have had. And the chicken dish was good as well.

Yelp
I was looking for unique food that could be delivered as I was staying at a hotel in Newark and didn't want to leave. I found Golconda Chimney because it was a rainy day and not many places wanted to deliver, and I ordered via the Yelp app. Boy, did I luck out! I ordered the Lamb Hakka Noodles, a Mango Lassi, and the Kheema Naan and Chicken Stuffed Kulcha. Portions were large and delicious, with complex flavors and spices. I'd recommend everything I tried.

Yelp
Really nice anda biryani! Rather than just boiled egg, they garnished the biryani with anda pakode, which was a delicious touch. We started with the hara bhalla kebab, which was also super tasty (unfortunately they were out of the veg seekh kebabs we were hoping for). First time trying katti dal (Haiderabadi style) and I will do so again. Only disappointment was the gobhi Manchurian which was just way too salty. Will return to try the other kebabs! So hard to find good veg kebabs in the city - as a vestige of Mughal cuisine, kebabs tend to be best in India's Muslim areas (the Pakistani restaurants typically don't make vegetarian kebabs since their clientele has no need). So Haiderabadi food is a good bet for veg kebabs and paneer tikka!

Yelp
The best Hyderabadi cuisine I ever had in US, just one thing chicken 65 must be categorize in spicy level 1 2 3 as my American in laws couldn't enjoy it. But for me being hyderabadi it was the greatest chick65. Chai will remind you of nilofar cafe or taiyabaat cafe All 5 stars

Yelp
I've had rogan gosh many times in my life and this one has got to receive the award for the worst dish on this side of the earth! The sauce tasted like they used rotten tomatoes and barely any meet, all fat and bones, as if they showed no effort to making a good quality dish! Funny thing is that they charge so much for something so disgusting! Do they even have some sort of quality control? Does the owner from time to time try the dishes his cooks cook and send out? You can see from the picture, since goat is not white meat, all the white parts are either bones or fat, disgusting!!

Yelp
I have been to this restaurant as well as ordered online. The food here is great. Service not so much. We were a group of four and went to this place on busy Sunday for dinner. First, nobody took the order after giving the menu for 10 minutes or so. Next, we were served one of the entrees first and then came the appetizer which is weird. These were not it, the person who took our order forgot to input one of the dish, and we had to wait for it to get prepared. However, she came and apologized later. Service needs improvement and hence the three stars. With all that said, the food is fantastic! I have had their Paneer tikka, Chicken 65, Egg noodles, Paneer Tikka Masala, and Veg Kolhapuri. All of them tasted amazing. I recommend this place, and I would try their other dishes in future.

Yelp
**Writing an update on 12/29/2020, almost after 4 years..still the best place to have Biryani, Haleem, Paya and Hyderabadi Desserts in entire America! If you are not a gypsy and true Hyderabadi then this is your one stop. Kudos to Abbas bhai and Farooq bhai, thank you for your wonderful service!**

Yelp
Pros 1. The Ambience was Modern yet Woodsy feel. 2. Friendly services. 3. Tandoor Hachari (Baked Chicken was so Flavorful and the Chicken's gravy was Deeelicious. 4. Chicken Cashewnut was Savory. (Reminded me of Sesame Chicken and Lemon Pepper Chicken) 5. Mogalai chicken was Tender and Flavorful. 6. Veg Hakka Noodle was good. 7. Veggie Biryani was Flavorful with a light kick. 8. The Chicken Biryani was good and the Chicken was Tender. Cons 1. The Noodle Kheer Pudding was Displayed Hot. I prefer it Cold it's more enjoyable for me and cools down the mouth and stomach from all the selections. 2. The Naan was already made and placed along with the other buffet selections. It was should be made Fresh since it can easily get cold.

Chicken is very tender and biryani flavour is really good , must try and won't be disappointed. Double ka meeta is must try . Garlic bread is bit fluffy and OK . Mutton is really tender and tasty .

Yelp
I'm a little bit conflicted on how to rate this place. Generally speaking, the food is good and the staff is enthusiastic and friendly. But the food is also inconsistent and I think that stems for the fact that there are too many menu options. I came here for a Yelp event and got to sample a lot of different dishes. There were some that I absolutely loved and some that I didn't care for at all. The inconsistencies that I mentioned earlier are things such as levels of salt, spiciness, and just overall dish quality. The owner mentioned that they have 150+ menu items. From what I can see, the problems with food quality are definitely related to too much variety. The restaurant has the potential to be really great by focusing on their strengths. There's absolutely no reason for that many menu items and I'm sure it's also expensive from a cost perspective for them to offer that much variety. Here are some of my favorite items: - Drinks: Mango Lassi: amazing, must have here - Soups: Dal Shorba (vegetarian soup): creamy and flavorful - Appetizers: Chicken 65, Chicken Lollipop, and Paneer Pakora - Main Course: Baingan Ka Bharta - Dessert: Kheer
google avatar

Ashish J.

Yelp
Nicely done (only about 4 months old). Just dined here as part of a Yelp event. Owners, Vasu and Raj, are Information Technology professional turned foodies who started this as they love to celebrate the variety that regional Indian cuisines have to offer. Mango lassi and the paneer dishes were delicious. Eggplant dish and the spinach cutlets were great - but be warned that they pack some heat. Naan flatbread and Rice Briyani - A+ there! The best of course was the lentil soup. Not a big dessert fan in general - my recommendation, don't leave room for dessert! Dishes were improvised enough that they were innovative but not that much that they border "fusion" genre. Give them a try - you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Tried the buffet on Christmas Day (yep it's open!). They had a very wide spread with lots of options Apps Samosa chaat Pani Puri Oyster chicken (didn't have oyster) Entrees Chicken Kheema Chicken haleem Chicken masala Butter chicken Chicken dum biryani Schezwan noodles and few other items Dessert (don't remember the name but remember not really liking it) Overall, the taste of the food was just okay and I would prefer not to go back here.
google avatar

Dwaipayan G.

Yelp
I went for the buffet today (3/26) and the food was not great at all. The spread was decent, however the taste of every item except cashew chicken was below par. For the price it's not good at all. I am definitely not going back!
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
My Guest Ahmed Aly brought me Lamb Biryani & Mango Laasi for a haircut while at MK Beauty & Barber Lounge. It was spicy and the lassi was a smooth, cool desert treat for after the meal
google avatar

Rajkumar B.

Yelp
Overall a good place to have a good buffet with decent amount of choices. Chat options provided are a plus. Biriyani is also good along with the sides/appetizers provided. This is a mix of both North Indian and South Indian dishes. Drink provided is usually a tea along with either tang or lemonade which is a plus. Knocking down a couple of star as they were not able to provide the 20% discount for first time checkin via yelp, was informed that it was only for takeout. However it was not mentioned in the fine print. Have repeated this place multiple times but tried this checkin today for review and it felt weird to be given such reason. Apart from this experience this is a really good place for $16 buffet with multiple options buffet.

Sravanthi G.

Yelp
At this place buffet has many options to try. I tried this place on both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday has more non vegetarian choices and Saturday has more vegetarian choices.

Nehali S.

Yelp
I came in at noon on a sweltering Sunday and was VERY excited to get my grub on! Even thought it super hot outside, my craving for spicy food was relentless. Considering there are so many other Indian restaurants in the area, I was happy to see that this place was picking up lunch traffic pretty rapidly. I never order Indian buffet, because Indochinese dishes are usually not a part of the variety of offerings (and Indochinese is my FAV). This is the one restaurant that does have this type of food as a part of their buffet, and it was a very welcoming surprise! All my favorite foods were included such as chicken 65, Hakka noodles, mixed veg pakora, biryani, paneer, and much more. The dishes I tried were incredibly tasty and spiced to perfection (definitely a rarity for buffet-style food!). My mouth is watering while I'm writing this review! I also tried some additional items off the menu - paneer 65, gobi Manchurian, and chicken w/ oyster sauce. They were simply amazing. Gobi Manchurian is a dish that is easy to screw up, because it's difficult to get the sauce right and the cauliflower can turn into a mushy hot mess. This wasn't the case here. The Manchurian was firm, fresh, and flavorful. :) To cool off my tastebuds, I ordered the Gulab Jamun and Qurbani Ka Meeta. These dishes were super sweet, but they complemented and balanced my meal well. Lastly, I was very impressed by the attentive service and spacious seating. The waiters pretty much read my mind, and I didn't even have to ask for water refills! All in all, I would 100 percent recommend this restaurant to all the Indochinese and spice lovers out there. My only qualm is lack of parking, but this is Jersey City, so it's totally expected. P.S. If you're coming with kids, there are several child friendly dishes available such as chicken tenders, fries, ice cream, etc.

Yelp
I love Indian food, but I never know what to order. Golconda Chimney created a wonderful Yelp Elite event that allowed us to taste a wide variety of dishes. I enjoyed the opportunity to taste some of their select dishes. Mango Lassi - thick and creamy, excellent! I had the Dal Shorba soup to start - I enjoyed it. Favorite appetizers: Chicken Lollipop - crunchy and tender; Chicken 65 - wonderfully flavorful1`. The Hara Bhara Tikka wasn't much to look at, but was delicious. Favorite Main Courses: We were served numerous dishes, and they were all very good. Probably none that I would say stood out above the others. an interesting note on the Chicken Hakka Noodles - I never had noodles before at an Indian restaurant - it tasted like noodles you would get from a Chinese restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised. For dessert, I really liked Kaddu Ka Kheer. I generally don't like desserts at Indian restaurants, but this one was a nice blend of flavors (pumpkin, milk, rice, suar and coconut powder) in a beautiful presentation. The Khubani Ka Meetha - boiled apricots - were also very good. The service was friendly and we had a wonderful time. The owners are clearly striving to move up the perceptions of the restaurant and they are well deserving of a 4 star rating. I love their desire to show what they can do. One reviewer suggested cutting back menu options, which makes sense to me - to allow the chefs to focus more on perfecting a more limited set of dishes. Another issue I noticed on prior reviews is that there seems to be problems with the delivery service. Consider cutting back on delivery service until they can staff up properly- as this seems to be the source of some complaints. Based on the food alone - your overall rating should and would be a lot more positive - and attract many more customers to your restaurant.

Yelp
It was our 22 anniversary so went to try out this place. this place it was really great food from appetizers to main dishes and they was so sweet enough to gave us surprise dessert we will definitely come back again

Yelp
I'm not an indian food expert and Golconda is right in the heart of little India, so I'm sure everyone has their own favorite. The decor is plain but elegant enough - lots of straight lines and white everywhere. Service was very friendly and fast with good recommendations if you weren't sure what to order. On my visit we got to try several dishes for our group of four. We enjoyed our soups (lentil, chicken), appetizers (kabob mix was top notch), naan, and mains (goat curry, tikka misala, hakka noodles). If you're making your first forays into indian cuisin, Golconda is a great place to start.

Yelp
I came here with a bunch of fellow Yelpers for a delicious three course meal. Parking is this area its bit tricky but after going around a few times I finally found a spot a block away. I started with Dal Shorbha which was a light broth lentil soup which was full of flavor. I'm not a huge lentil lover but I really love all the flavors. I then went with the chicken 65 which was fried chicken in a yogurt and lemon marinate topped with cashews. This chicken was delicious and boy it was full of flavor with a small hint of heat. Now as my entrée I went with chicken tikka masala, I know this is so basic and maybe boring for most when it comes to Indian food but I love this dish :) I was glad I ordered because it didn't disappoint. They served with garlic naam and rice. Everything was really good and the service was excellent. They made sure we had everything we needed. No Indian meal can be complete without some mango lassi. I really love the taste and how it balances all of the heat from the dishes.

Yelp
We were 10 of us who visited on a Saturday afternoon. We had to wait for about 10 mjns before we got a table. They have a myriad variety of Indian food. Indo Chinese is the best I've had in the states so far. Most importantly they have BYOB! Must try: Chicken Lollipop, Chicken 65, and Chicken Tandoori Don't try: Shrimp curry
google avatar

Marco M.

Yelp
There is no zero star choice, so it gets a one star. My son and I went there on a few nights ago. Maybe because we are not Indian, we go lousy service and lousy good. The spices on the tandoori chicken were not cooked through. The sauce that the few malai kofta was floating in had an odd flavor. The pakoda were overly salted. What a mess! Should have sent it back. We eat Indian food all the time and figured we would try someplace new (we usually go to Rasoi or Honest). Never again.

Yelp
One of the worst restaurants to visit ever. Everything including Naan was Cold. We had to leave the food midway. It was that bad. Only spring rolls for appetizers on a buffet? We really expected better from you. One thing is for sure, ill tell my friends and relatives to not visit this place ever again. That badam halwa was like milk and sugar mixed that's it. Panic puri was literally only Pani. No taste whatsoever. Just to conclude, the staff was expecting a tip after all this crap. Everyone save your time, money and you can skip this place forever.

Yelp
A week ago, I had a very bad experience with this place. After having Kheema in weekend buffet (which had very sour taste) I had food poisoning, next day I was hospitalized due to severe dehydration and water loss. I was diagnosed with severe case of food poisoning and was treated for it in the ER. I still have effect of it and currently on medication for it. They are taking big risk on people's health by not providing fresh or quality food during buffet. I have started legal proceeding against this place, with a formal complaint to health authorities.

Yelp
I came home tired last night from work and wanted to get some good food to celebrate recent work success I had been seeing. I placed the order on seamless at 5:30 and waited the typical 70 minutes the delivery indicated it would arrive in. After about 80 minutes I call the restaurant and a younger lady answered. I tried to explain that the order is late and she said do you realize it takes 70 minutes to get to you. So I asked her if she realized the order was 10 minutes late? Like whats with the attitude. The food came in over 22 minutes late without an apology. I wrote specific directions for where to deliver the food and the delivery driver ends up on the other side of the building. Ignoring clearly marked signs for each entrance he wasted another 5 minutes. Then I tasted the food. I ordered a goat biryani and have had this many times before with GC. I kid you not the rice was old and the goat tasted like rubber it was undercooked. I called the restaurant and a gentleman answered who had a language barrier. He assured me he would call me back in 30 minutes. I called back in an hour and my calls went straight to voicemail. I called seamless and they tried as well. Same thing! Seamless was nice enough to offer me a $10 coupon but that is something this restaurant should own up to doing. I have ordered here in the past but after wasting 3 hours of my night when I wanted to simply relax and eat a nice meal I will NEVER order from here again. I actually was so disturbed by their behavior that I had to write a review for the first time in my life. I hope the restaurant reads this and realizes great customers will never order from them again.

Yelp
I've only ever eaten the weekend buffet at Golconda Chimney but I've always been very happy with it. The room is big, bright and modern, it's a pleasant space to eat in. It's always been a buffet when I've been here but I have found the ladies serving to be very cheerful, and attentive with water/clearing tables/dealing with checks etc. There's a large array of food on offer, I'd conservatively estimate twenty or so dishes with chicken, meat, fish and plenty of vegetarian options. All the usual Indian restaurant dishes are available (Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken, Soups, Naan, Korma, Spinach and Paneer etc etc) along with some more unusual ones. The food is varied and delicious, I particularly recommend Chicken 65. There is always plenty of food to choose from as the platters are constantly being refilled. Prices are very reasonable. The only thing that I find a bit odd here is that the cutlery is disposable plastic - the sort of thing you would use for a picnic or get with takeout - other than that its a great spot for a spicy weekend brunch.

Yelp
One of the better tasting Indian buffets I've had in a long time. I went with a couple friends around the time they opened. They had a wide variety of foods such as tandoori chicken, butter chicken, veg/ chicken biryani, and more. They gave us naan as well. We were all satisfied with our meal. The place looks modern and so does the bathroom. It's clean. I can't wait to go back to dine again!

Yelp
Since Hyderabadi cuisine is so prevalent in Little India, it took me some time to build up the excitement to try out Golconda Chimney. Instead of taking baby steps and trying out one or two dishes, I took the plunge and went for a lunch buffet on a weekday. To be honest, it far exceeded my expectations. Though the food was not limited to Hyderabadi cuisine, the buffet did justice to even the non Hyderabadi items like the ubiquitous chicken tikka masala. The other dishes that really stood out were the coconut chicken, the chicken 65 and the chicken biryani. All of these were spectacular! The chicken 65 was my favorite, its tangy, spicy flavours serving as a perfect appetizer for the rest of the meal. I have ordered this innumerable times afterwards and the taste has always been consistent. Another dish that is unique here is the Chennai chicken curry. It is an onion and tomato based gravy which is somehow superior to all the usual curries based on the same sauce. The consistency varies with this one quite a bit. I have ordered it 6-7 times and the taste has been different from the initial one at least three times.Since all three variations tasted pretty good, this is my current favorite dish from the extensive menu. Other items I have sampled here which were good were the vegetable pakora, the Golconda chicken dum biryani and the dry chilli chicken. The portion sizes were huge and easily lasted me for a couple of meals. One thing that stood out for me the most was that there was an adequate amount of white meat used in the chicken dishes. I hate eating out at other Indian places which use only dark meat. It's no wonder that Golconda Chimney is gaining quite a following in spite of the high competition in the area for a similar type of cuisine. This is definitely a spot worth checking out.

Yelp
I've never had a worse biryani in my life. I ordered the 12.99 chicken dum biriyani, and that $13 of my life I'll never get back. The lack of flavor and the disunion of all the spices made it a very bad experience. It honestly tasted like Ghee rice with a little extra garam masala. Given the lack of spice there was way too much of a greasy feel from the ghee. Remember that the highlight of biriyani is meant to be the harmony of spices. The point isn't to have some chicken and rice. The Raita tasted like vanilla yoghurt with onion in it. On the bright side the chicken was very very tender, but still just as flavorless. Gobi Manchurian was nice too. Thus the second star. Overall very disappointed. If you have a enemy that you don't like, I would torture them with this.

Yelp
Recently ordered Palak paneer and dal makhani but was very bland and odd tasting. Not a great experience.

Yelp
This was my first experience with Indian food, and it was a pretty good one! I don't have enough experience with Indian food to judge Golconda Chimney entirely accurately or compare it to anything, but I thought it was really good. Everything we tried had lots of flavor and spices. What we had: Naan bread with garlic- these tasted like garlic knots except way way better. Loved this. Samosa chat- these were fried savory pastries filled with veggies and were really fluffy and yummy. Mango Lassi-basically a thin mango smoothies. Super tasty and good for washing down spices. Hariyali chicken kebab-this was my favorite item that we ordered. This dish wasn't spicy (good for me), and the chicken was super tender and juicy. Bhagara bhaingan- eggplant dish that had lots of spice Goat masala- on the menu it doesn't mention that there are bones in this dish. It was hard to find pieces of meat that didn't have bone with it so I didn't enjoy this one as much. Paneer biryani- be careful if you order this because the portion is MASSIVE. The rice is really tasty, but it had to have weighed at least 3 pounds in total. The presentation of everything was very nicely done. The interior is nice and spacious and the staff is pretty friendly. I would also say the prices are really fair for the amount of food you get.

Yelp
I was fortunate enough to dine here last night as part of an Elite yelp event, I'm really glad that I signed up for this event! The restaurant is located on Newark ave in Jersey City, in a predominantly Indian area, which of course adds to the authenticity of the restaurant itself. I was definitely glad that I skipped lunch that day because I left this event absolutely stuffed. The spread that was prepared was extremely large and overly generous. There were a ton of options and everything I had was really delicious. I really enjoyed the appetizer selection, which included several chicken dishes, veg dishes and soups. The chicken soup "Chicken Manchow" was very spicy and delicious, I really enjoyed it, and definitely wasn't used to having soup from Indian restaurants. As for apps, the highlight for me was the Chicken 65 and Chicken lollipops, both were super delicious and left me super stuffed. For the dinner selection, I enjoyed the Shahi Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala and the the Biryani, I was too stuffed to try the desserts. The owners were very nice, and overall it was a great experience. I would definitely return for a great dinner with friendly service in Jersey City. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
This restaurant is located on Newark Ave, which is a lively street surrounded by other Indian restaurants, Indian grocery stores, etc. I was fortunate enough to be able to try a myriad of items from their menu, and I've highlighted some of my favorite items below: For starters, I really enjoyed the Chicken Manchow soup, which was spicy and tangy with the taste of garlic and ginger. I don't usually have soup at Indian restaurants so this was a welcome change. For appetizers, I thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken Lollipops, which are tasty drumsticks that are battered and fried. Just writing about it makes me want to go back! I also liked the Chicken 65, which are chicken pieces marinated with a ton of Indian spices. For the main course, I especially loved the Goan Shrimp curry (also because I'm a huge fan of shrimp), which had a thick, delicious curry made with coconut milk which is also quite unique to have at an Indian restaurant. I also liked the chicken tikka masala, but it wasn't the best chicken tikka I've had (since this is a common dish at every Indian restaurant). Also, I can't forget about the mango lassi! This was definitely one of my favorite mango lassis I've had. It was the perfect amount of yogurt and mango flavor. I would definitely come back to try some of their other dishes on their extensive menu!

Yelp
Loved the saag paneer, smoked eggplant and the dal soup. Can't wait to go back to try other things. You might have to wait a bit when you do takeout but it's worth it.

Great food. Very good staff, very attentive. Will definitely recommend to friends. We ate Chicken 65, Chicken Chettinad & Goat Dum Biryani with Butter Naan & Tandoori Roti - excellent food. Will definitely try other items on the menu. I'm sure we will go back.

Yelp
So, about this place. We came here for the first time with family from Atlanta. Glad we choose this place to satisfy our taste pallets. From starters to desserts everything was mouth watering. We ordered both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Food definitely to be tried are Goat nizami, paneer fried rice, lasooni gobi, lemon coriander soup, chicken Biryani and everyone's fav kadhu ka Kheer. This is definitely our most favorite Indian restaurant. Gave a heart full 5 star rating.

Yelp
This must be the 672nd restaurant with same taste within the same area. (no offense). Every restaurant has same taste doing the same thing without offering anything extra. It was windy night and we had come back without having anything from 2 restaurants. one offered very bad food (desi wok) and others did not have empty tables (china spice; bw they have only 3 tables). We found this. The restaurant was almost empty, got nice ambiance. We got the table. We ordered our stuff. The server was courteous but at the same time, she was in her zone only. Singing song, doing her chores, I was wondering whether she was even listening to our order or not. At end of our food, she missed our roti. Anyway, we ordered drums of heaven ( who gave this name to the dish), which was just oil fried. Malai chicken kabab, kabab pieces should be soft, well marinated, but it was rubber chewy type pieces which were just grilled. Mutton sukha was okay, the smell was coming from mutton pieces. Chicken keema dry was good though. They forgot our one bread order and one of our friend survived on rice given with entrees. When I asked the server about this, she was like okay I ll remove that from the bill, she was not even apologetic. I made her realize that she missed our order and we are paying gratuity, then she realized what she missed.

Yelp
I have been here quiet a few times to pick up food so this time I thought let's try their buffet. Worst Lunch Buffet ever. We went around 2pm and the lunch buffet ends at 3pm. They were still taking people in at 3.30. They hardly had any appetizers and no salads or chutneys. Just one chicken non veg dish. They even had problem serving naan. They gave us one naan for two people and then when we finished we had to first look for someone to order naan and then the naan took like almost 15 minutes to come and then at the end they only had one dessert. They were not even refilling the food with some fresh food. If they were almost done with Buffet then they should let us know before starting. If they charged us full price then they should serve us properly. It wasn't like we walked in at at 2.45 or later. I would give -2 if possible.

Yelp
A relatively better ambience, with a relatively cleaner eating space ( a rarity among the Indian resraurants in the street ). Copious amounts of food !! When they served the biriyani I was kinda confused if it was for me or four people. WARNING : If you do not like leg pieces of chicken, let them know. Last time I found some 5 leg pieces of chicken in my biriyani and NOTHING ELSE. I wonder of they use other parts of the bird to cook the Biriyani.
