"If you're looking for the diviest dive bar in the Upper Haight, look no further than Gold Cane, which feels like it's stuck in the 1970s — in a good way. The patrons are loyal, the drinks are cheap, and there's plenty of seating and a pool table. What more do you need?" - Paolo Bicchieri

I used to like to come here for many reasons. Mostly because I've been coming since the 90's. I don't live in the city anymore but when I come back an this is a spot I'll stop. Today came in to do some schoolwork. Took a couple hours. Bought a couple beers whilst doing the work, after I was finished (and during) I was sitting next to another patron named Kim. Cool guy- also from out of town. As I was packing up to leave I said hello to a women (Megan the hair dresser) who was sitting by me for the entire time I was there. Tried to be polite as she looked stressed so I said hello. She lost it and started attacking me for that. I asked her if she hates men she said "yes." Ok man hater bar now.... So much for the height street love- now I'm sitting in the same bar I've been coming to since the 90's and supporting (I've even done a band photo shoot here) and it's ok for women to say they hate men. Then the bartender comes over and ask me to leave for saying hello to the man hater. You literally can't make this stuff up. They have ruined the vibes here with man hating leftists who openly admit they hate men. This woman in the picture should be fired immediately from her job.

Old timer story. Used to hang out here back in the late 80s. I remember on St Patty's day two bartenders were working; Pat and Paul (I think it was Paul). I think Alex the owner was too. Paul was gay and pretty uptight most of the time. The place was packed and Paul was fed up with the drunken crowd so about 6pm he stood up on the bar in the middle of the room, motioned with his arms like he was dividing the room in half and started screaming in his Irish accent "Everybody from here to the street, you're all 86'd". He went on awhile trying to kick people out but nobody left. We had a big group of regulars who were from Ireland, mostly. Good guys but really drank alot. I guess we all did back then. Not like that now.

Yes!!! Local dive spot in the Haight. Met up with a friend who took me here and had a great time! Inky was our bartender and she loves her job and you can tell. The patrons were all fun people and it felt like being at a bar with all my friends. Nuff said!

We've been coming here for 22 years when we are in town. Usually they are amazing staff, unfortunately the bartender charged us $20 for a pitcher of modelo. I gave $2 for a tip and she thru the $2 money back at me, on the bar. We left after the 1 pitcher. Usually we would stay all day/nite. The bar is usually amazing, as well as the locals are great to talk with.

Finally!!! A nice bar with a bar tender that is not arrogant, best service here. Relaxed people coming in, made us stay longer than intended 😅 Also! Beer is $4!

Really cool spot in the center of the Haight Ashbury district. Great prices and drinks. Cool bartender ( Brandon). Cheers. Pool table and digital jukebox.
