If this is the "best" Chinese food in Sioux Falls then I'm going to be hating life. We ordered take out last night which went smoothly once I got through. I had to call back several times because I kept getting a busy signal. No biggie. Finally got through and ordered Sesame Chicken with fried rice Mongolian beef with steamed rice, two egg rolls, and fried wontons. The man said fifteen minutes...perfect. When I walked in the door my food was waiting. The man was friendly and prompt, we made the transaction and I left with my food. The restaurant was buzzing with about an 80% full dining room. It seemed really nice. Anyway, I got home several minutes later, and was really looking forward to the best Chinese food. It was packaged well, and nice and hot, and it looked really good. That is where it turned. Let me say that this was our first time eating at the Golden Bowl and we really wanted it to be great. We have lived all over the United States and have eaten some awesome Chinese food and have been looking for something good here, but this was not it. Like I was saying, it looked great but was not very tasty. The sweet and sour that came with the wontons was like a sour red fluid not at all sweet. The wontons were merely deep fried wonton wrappers without the cream cheese we expected like every other Chinese restaurant where we have ever been. The Sesame chicken was basically dough without much chicken in a tart sauce, it was really disappointing. The rice was flavorless and overcooked. The egg rolls were overcooked and it looked like the oil in which it was cooked was old because they were very dark and greasy. The Mongolian beef was flavorless, as well, but was the high point of the meal. There weren't many veggies in it and it was merely beef in a thin, bland brown sauce. We threw away the leftovers. We didn't have seconds. The portions were small for the $36 we spent, but it didn't matter. This was very basic steam table fare that was filling, but not savory and delicious. This was the kind of food you'd get in a bad soup kitchen. We won't be going back. It makes me sad to write this review. If you're from South Dakota this bland food may appeal to you, I don't know. However, if you've eaten decent Chinese food anywhere else you will be greatly disappointed. I'm giving one star because it was easy to order on the phone once I got through and was ready as promised when I got there. The food was bland, way overpriced, and the portions small.
