PLEASE. You need to come here. The service is top tier, the staff are utter sweethearts, and I’ve never once had a poor experience in all my years here. They have great deals for food, and their regular prices are amazing. They’ve got AC, comfy chairs, beautiful wall decor, and it’s just generally an amazing atmosphere. There’s this one girl, her name’s Mai, and she’s genuinely the kindest woman I’ve ever meet in all my years of existence, coming from an OLD thirteen year old. So, yeah. I’m pretty viable!!! Anyway, come to Golden Crown. You WONT forget it.

This place was something to remember. The booths were extra sticky. The table top stuck to my forearms… all of the condiments, sitting on top of it, were also extra sticky. We ordered crap puffs and a combination D dinner. They brought us egg drop soup and it was very good. My dining partner did ask if he could have hot and sour soup and was told no because that was extra. This was the first time we have visited an Asian restaurant and not been able to have either soup with a combination meal. The crab puffs were big, but they did not have any of that fake crab in them. It was all cream cheese, and zero seasoning. The appetizer plate was fried shrimp and barbecue pork. The fried shrimp was fine but the barbecue pork was dry and tasteless. It was really bad. Next came the Mandarin chicken, which was a delight. It was actually really good, but it was not mandarin at all. It was more of the sweet-and-sour sauce that came with the crab puffs just poured on top. It was a big portion and our favorite thing that was brought to the table. The fried rice was also pretty good. It had big chunks of what looked to be frozen peas and carrots in it and it well seasoned. They brought us something called Cantonese steak and it was 100% not steak I could not physically chew through it, so I cannot tell you how it tasted because it was too tough to eat. There was a vegetable dish that was good. It had normal vegetables, but they were also too big to eat in one bite, and we weren’t given knives to cut these vegetables to eat them. It was also covered in more of that nasty barbecue pork. The service was great. Everybody was really nice. The bathroom was mostly clean, but if you do go and visit, please look up to the ceiling because by the look of their vent, it has not been cleaned in half a century. It was gross. I probably will not return to this restaurant, because there are so many other places that make better food in my opinion. If you’re looking for quantity over quality, however this place gives you a ton of food. There’s not a lot of parking, but there’s a sees candy store next-door if you come out looking for something sweet.

The best war wonton soup! Enough to share and have leftovers. When you order take out, they package the broth so the veggies and wontons for the best meal at home! One of the few restaurants in town that offer Chow Fun! And it is wonderful. I had heard they recently changed hands, the store had kind of gotten run down. Pandemic didn’t do downtown Salem any favors. The new owners have cleaned the restaurant up and it’s much better! The chefs are the same. After rediscovering them a few months ago, it has returned to one favorite downtown restaurants. Parking in back makes it easy to get my elderly mom into the restaurant.

May is the lady that took over this awesome family business. Her son Tony and his girlfriend Gigi are all such great staff. Get your order right and delicious. Same cook for 20 plus years. My favorite restaurant since the 1990's. Keep going

I used to like this place but the quality here has gone down drastically. The food used to taste fresh and now it tastes like a generic Chinese restruant on its last legs before the health department takes an axe to it. Smells like the old folks that come in to eat regularly. Last time I ordered, I was given beef lo mein but it had a grand total of three chunks of beef in it that were not larger than my thumb. All in I'm guessing less than 1 oz of beef used (Using a 16 oz steak for basic reference). I brought the issue up to the young waitstaff who were not at all interested in helping me and rather eat their own meal. I came damn near close to just walking out without eating or paying. Very horrible experience that I would like to avoid so this place is off my list for good.

I've never been to a Chinese restaurant where you have to pay for the soup that is usually complimentary when you order a meal. My tea cup had red lipstick on it and the table they sat us at was so very sticky. We ordered the appetizer plate and told them to just leave out the crab puff not substitute and they still charged me $2 extra to take out the crab puff. The food is great. The Service and how they run the restaurant is concerning. Before the new owner, this restaurant was much better. She doesn't need to be managing a restaurant.

This is the best American Chinese food and Chinese food in town I swear! The service is amazing with amazing and sweet waiters! This place deserves more customers so please come down to golden crown it’s amazing my dad and I come every Wednesday it’s so good!!!

Come here for lunch weekdays. Fast service. Good food. The tables could be cleaned a little better they were a little sticky. Fast service I like to get the lunch special

I've eaten at Golden Crown before and enjoyed the food. However, this time I was sorely disappointed. If this had been my first visit rather than my 10th, I would never return. We ordered takeout for a large number of people, and the service was prompt. However, the food quality was terrible. Diced almond chicken was mushy and had no flavor. Sesame chicken had no sauce. Sweet and sour chicken had sweet and sour sauce mixed in, but it had jelled and made the chicken mushy as well. I could go on, but suffice to say we were very disappointed.

Just chicken nuggets like he would buy at Safeway and then you pour your own sauce over the top again from Safeway. This is beyond a negative no, never ever do this to yourself. This is not General sows chicken. There is such a thing as cooking food, and there's another thing called assembling food. I have been a single man for a long time, and I know about assembling food. No one cooked us they just assembled it.

Ordered Grubhub earlier in the day for an evening delivery on Christmas Eve . 15 minutes before delivery time, my order was canceled. Apparently they closed early. But they get the notification when I order. They were open. So instead of them canceling right then, the delivery driver showed up and the restaurant was closed. I went and picked up at another place.

Friendly staff, motivated to please, but the quality of food from the kitchen.... ho, hum.

The place was welcoming and fun from the outside super cute and clean inside, and the staff was very welcoming. The waitress talked and joked with us, really sweet and funny, even gave us bbq pork for making us wait. They were closing soon and we were so tired from working all day, so we got most of our food Togo. It was all very good I got the mu shu pork, YUM, brother got the special lo mein, hammered most of it, bf got combo 5 I stole some bites it was really good and fresh. We are from Portland and will be back next time we work down in Salem!

Food was pretty good. There was a veg in the spring roll I didn't like, but overall it was the best Chinese we've had in four years. And believe me it was miles ahead of any takeout in a very long time..

Food was good, service was amazing. Shout out to the women waitressing. They treated us so kindly. If there was anything wrong with the food, we didn't notice, because staff was so good to us and our 2 little girls. I just wanted to thank you again. The atmosphere was nice also, we requested to be sat in the back because we have kids, and they kindly obliged

Since the new owners took over there is no big egg rolls. The food is bland!! Very disappointed. I will not return!

Have been to many others for take out in Salem and even Portland and by far the best we've found. Great prices and very nice folks too. Our go to from now on!

not good. actually it's probably worse than that. we got the sweet and sour chicken combination and almond chicken chow mein. the combination was...mediocre at best. the sweet and sour chicken and fried rice were worse quality than even Panda Express. And the chicken chow mein....lol. What a joke. Look at the picture - how is that chow mein in any language? And you can probably see the couple of crispy noodle things that I guess qualifies it as chow mein? Plus the exterior is depressing, the interior is equally depressing, even our waitress seemed depressed. The best part of the meal was probably the hot tea. Then to add insult to injury when it came time to pay, the waitress saw my card and barked, 'Do you have cash?? Too many people paying with credit card, too expensive.' Uhh, ok, so I paid in cash and left about half the tip I was planning to leave. Needless to say, I would definitely not come back here.

Food was fast and fresh!! BBQ pork is so tender. Sweet and sour chicken was great! They even threw hot mustard in the bag with extra soy sauce. I will definitely order again. Thank you !

Very dissatisfied and disappointed in our dinner of Broccoli Beef ( no flavor and meat was tough) chicken almond sub gum was flavorless and the breading on the sweet and sour chicken was very heavy. Egg flower soup was the only thing we liked. We told the server we didn't like the meal and no discount or alternative was offered.

Worst Chinese I've ever had. The only thing here that was okay was the egg flower soup. The crab puffs tasted spoiled, bbq pork had NO flavor, and my the fried rice..... if you could even call it that. Was literally boiled rice with chopped up pork and STRINGS of egg. AND MY ORDER WAS $40. Way overpriced garbage

Golden Crown always has amazing food, and amazing customer service. They are always so kind!! I love coming here

For about 10+ years our family has gone to one Chinese Restaurant faithfully, and on a whim we decided to try out Golden Crown for the first time last night. I was impressed from the helpful & lovely staff, the tea, the homemade dumplings, to all the food we ordered! It would almost be impossible to go to the other Chinese restaurant now, other than the fact that Golden Crown is closed on Sundays :( If you want fresh, fast, and simply DELICIOUS Chinese food, you need to give Golden Crown a try!

I love this place but it's always a hit and miss kind of thing. They often forget things in the order or make it wrong but even then it's still good food. I ordered seared salmon this time and I usually ask for it to have a good sear but this is what I got... messy and greasy

Always friendly, and the food is very good I always order a single order of pork chow mein to take home. There's enough in it for a couple days for me. Nice order. And I want to crack something the owner is not Chinese he is Vietnamese.

We dine here often but today was the first time we dined for lunch. The restaurant was quiet but still sparkling clean. Service staff was friendly, as usual. They offer a lunch menu with reduced pricing compared to dinner. But the portions are still large enough to share. We had the chicken lo mein, egg flower soup and pork fried rice. Everything was fresh as always. I see a number of reviews here that are less than stellar, but I am a particular fan of Cantonese Chinese vs. some of the other more popular "styles" commonly found in Salem and the W Coast in general. Golden Crown delivers fresh, tasty Cantonese every time and I always enjoy their atmosphere and service. We will continue to frequent the restaurant whenever the "yen" for Chinese strikes.

Service was good, food, alright. Chow mein had hardly any bean sprouts, and Mongolian beef had only a few pieces of beef, mostly vegetable plate. Sweet and sour looked like it wasn't in house made.

This is our family favorite place for Chinese food. Generous helpings and good prices.

Delicious food and they give you a good amount for the price, which is worth it. Nice staff and helpful. Would definitely recommend anyone to give it a try, best in town in my opinion.

The iconic American-Chinese (not Chinese-American because this is really something we created) restaurant. Not fancy, but exactly what you would expect. The food was quick, hot and how I envision it. I had the fried shrimp and sweet n sour pork with some chow mein and pan-fried noodles. I'll repeat it was just as I expected but would have preferred if they had laid off the celery and used some other vegetables to round it off--but it was what I expected especially for the price. I grew up with egg fu yung being a little egg mixed with a small amount of chopped celery and Chinese five spice and fresh bean sprouts--very simple and light. Here it looks more like a thick veggie pattie with a brown gravy that would be perfect to slather over your traditional Thanksgiving dinner mashed potatoes. I'm not fond of it, but Lynette and our guest loved the holy heck out of it and couldn't get enough. Take that as you will. Not much else to say except to endorse other reviews that report American sized portions. If we want American-Chinese, we will come back. Thank you.

I have gone to Golden Crown for years and keep going back. It is a comfortable setting and the owner is so nice. We have always enjoyed the food there.

We love going here for our Chinese food. Today the noodles was stale and when we told server she acknowledged that they knew they were stale. We thought after she left, Wow and you are still serving them. They did make the food taste a little off. We would have rather had the food without the noodles. Next time we will ask for the noodles on the side. Highly recommend this place if you want good Chinese food.

Always consistent. Food is always flavorful. This time I got it in a combo. The service here is always good too. The family is very friendly and always a pleasurable.

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in Salem Oregon. The food is always fresh and the service is always fast & friendly. We ordered the dinner special for three of us and we could barely eat half because there was so much food. We will eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. Lunch specials are great too. We eat half and the other half the next day. If you are really hunger you can eat the lunch special in one sitting. Hope you enjoy this Chinese restaurant as much as we do.

This is my family's favorite restaurant. We have come for 13 years when the family gathers or for a Birthday. We love pork fried rice, teriyaki chicken, egg rolls, Broccoli Beef and hot and sour soup. The taste is superb - we all share the different foods. They have take out too!

Spent $36 on my order. General Tso chicken, pork fried rice, lo mein noodles and vegetable fried rice. I ordered both the sauces on the side. The sauce for the noodles was so salty. Everything was not good at all. A friend also got a larger order of food to go as well. Her food was awful as well. Both of us ended throwing everything out because of how awful it was. Totally a waste of our time going there and even worse, an absolute waste of money. We will never go there again. I would I could give them a rating of negative stars.

Food was average at best! Ordered Shrimp Fried rice, it was disgusting! No vegetables in rice. Just boiled rice, egg , and cheap baby shrimp!

Wow, this place is excellent. I've travelled far and wide and this restaurant rivals if not surpasses all of the best Chinese cuisine I've had in Chinatown in Canada in both B.C. and Ontario. Nothing in Vegas or California can compare either. Highly recommend this restaurant! I've been here countless times.

I used to come here as a young girl with my family. Now I come back when ever I'm in Salem. Nothing fancy just good food and service. The decor is the same as the late 70's and I'm sure ownership has changed but it's still good!

I've been to many Chinese restaurants and this is the worst service. I will never go back there. The waitress is so rude and unpleasant. I lost my appetite before I even got my food. Complained to to the manager and he was just as rude. I definitely recommend going to lum yuen for great food and service. Zero thumbs up for golden crown!!!

Came in today for lunch with a party of nine (9). We found ample seating and the waitstalf were somewhat attentive. The portions were large (we ordered off the regular menu and not the lunch menu). I thought the bbq pork was delicious and the hot mustard that was served with the pork was perfect. I am not certain if it is customary that refills not be made during lunch, but I can say that today, there were no refills to be had.

Definitely 'old school' Chinese food but they do the classics well. The Hot and Sour soup is the best I've ever had. Great egg rolls too. Moo shu pork, General Tso also good choices. Free parking in the back.

Consistently good. I've only been here for lunch and often get the lunch special, whatever it may be, but ordered the kung pao this time. I love kung pao and it was good. Only thing that would make it better is less celery and more spice. The green and red peppers were fresh and delicious.

Can't tell you how many times I have walked or driven by this place. Finally decided to try their food out, ordered through Grub Hub and it was amazingly quick delivery, portions were out of this world ginormous, especially for the price. We got 2 entrees and 2 appetizers and it was enough to feed 6 people at least. Wife got the broccoli and beef and said it was really good, I got the Kung Pao Squid, got it medium in case my wife wanted some as she isn't a fan of super spicy food. It still had enough of a kick that I enjoyed it. My only complaint is that it didn't have much squid in it, was really looking forward to lots of big juicy rings and fully tentacled bodies, needed more protein, next time I'll stick with chicken or beef since I am sure they would put more in the dish since that is a cheaper protein. Definitely will order again and look forward to dining in once the current situation is better controlled and it is safer to dine-in.

8 minutes ago I feel the employees are rude. No one ever came back after we got our food except to bring the check and then immediately after we paid we were told to leave because they needed our table. I have never experienced that before. I don't plan on returning. There are way better chinese restaurants in town and the employees aren't rude to customers.

Great food at reasonable prices. Huge selection of options to choose from and food comes out fast and with a smile. Great owner who is there everyday and goes around to the tables to make sure everyone has what they need. A great place to bring family who want authentic cuisine and a friendly atmosphere.

The sweet and sour chicken was frozen cold. The owner refused to redo it or replace it with something else. He actually threw a fit.

I have such mixed feelings about this review because I have been going to this place for years since I was little with my family. This is my first time coming here since I had my daughter and I don't know if it's that they don't like baby's or what but they were absolutely rude! I couldn't even believe it. I got there about 10 mins before my mother did for our lunch. When I walked in no one was around except for already seated customers. I waited almost 2-3 minutes standing there to be seated, so I sat myself down another 3 mins went by before I saw a sever and waved at them to tell them I was there. When the lady saw me I said for two and if I could have a high chair. She came back with menus and walked away not saying a word. A few more mins pass and her husband comes with the high chair I said thank you he looked at me and just walked away again not a word spoken. When the lady came back to take my order I told her I wanted chicken green beans she said she didn't understand me so I repeated and fried rice no egg as well. She went on to tell me they don't have fried rice with no egg. Again IVE GONE HERE YEARS I KNOW THEY HAVE IT. So I told her I've had it before and she said "no we don't but I check" a few more minutes later and she said "they don't have fried rice, only with egg or steamed rice your choice"I told her that's fine I'll take the fried rice with egg. When I finally got my order she gave me a what? Small bowl of fried rice no egg. But no large side of what I said I was fine with. When my mother finally came the owner recognized her by the face he made but said nothing. Anything my daughter would drop on the floor they would sweep by and pick up as if they were watching her. I was going to pick it up my self but okay. When leaving my mom and I never received the fried rice with egg. My mother had to order it with no egg in order to get it! When we asked for the check not even a minute went by the the lady came by to take it with the four tube cookies on top still and we hadn't pulled out our cards yet. I felt rushed uncomfortable unwanted and annoyed. Last time I will return ... bummer tho cause the food was always great...

I'm writing this for my husband he took me here for a dinner date cause he has been eating here since he was a child and I was not disappointed this was the best chinese food we have ever had all of it was excellent and the workers were very friendly. I would definitely return and recommend this restaurant.

This is my go to place for lunch in Salem. They have the best Egg Foo Young! Today I had my other standby which is Chicken Lo Mein. The fried soft noodles are perfect. Consistent, great food and affordable. The staff are always accommodating for substitutions on combo meals. Great menu.

Usually the food and service is great. But they made the noodles differently and they were so beyond salty they were inedible. No one came by our table for the entire hour we sat there eating so couldn't ask for replacement and then they refused to take it off our bill even though it was a full plate of heinously salty noodles that were not eaten. Been going their for years but after that horrible service I'll be going elsewhere.
