Fried chicken over pork fried rice and hot and sour soup

I’m from small town Indiana and this was the best Chinese I’ve ever had. Service was great, prompt, and the portions were huge. Very well priced. Only thing that would’ve made it better is being able to eat in. Would definitely come back!

Sharon Leon

Google
Love the food and friendly workers! They deserve a way higher rating! Food is always fresh and cooked amazingly well! 5/5! Best in the area!

Google
Ordered chicken wings and pork fried rice from Golden Forest and couldn't believe how tiny the wings were. Seriously, they looked like baby/mini wings. 1 normal wing. 3 baby wings. Felt totally ripped off for the price I paid. The rice was okay, but that couldn't save the meal. Can't recommend this place until they fix the portion sizes.

Bernice Vicente

Google
Food is over priced the location looks dirty with boxes all over. I was a customer over 20 years. I recently called for a delivery my order was $14 they said a minimum of $18 and hung up.

Sylvahna Menissian

Google
Amazing food and service. Prices are incredible as well as the portion size. I can’t wait to order from here again!

Sam Karp

Google
HORRIBLE service. They called me and told me my order was canceled because they don’t deliver to my address. Didn’t answer when I called back and never refunded my money.

Raschid Pierce

Google
I had ordered a large chicken rice soup. It was basically white rice & water. Very lil chicken like one table spoon full. Horrible $5. I wouldn't order that again.

Google
Great experience having lunch here. The people here are very friendly and the food was great. Thank you!

Yelp
I had recently seen a video on Instagram about them- the influencer was featuring their fried chicken wings and I was LOCKED. IN. I stopped by on a weekday evening around dinner time- the small space was busy with folks eating at the one small table they had there, or waiting for their food, and all the while their delivery people were rushing in and out. This place is cash only! They have an ATM conveniently placed by the register. I got an order of fried chicken wings and also a dinner combo (roast pork with garlic sauce, which came with pork fried rice and an egg roll). Wait was reasonable, about 10-15 min? Took it home and it was still piping hot and tasty after my 30 min commute back home. The wings were exceptional- perfectly seasoned, nice and juicy, and the meat just came off the bone. The dinner combo was what you'd expect- nothing to write home about but still very tasty. Portions are generous, can definitely see why its a popular takeout spot

Yelp
Sometimes you just want some American Chinese food. And when I do, Golden Forest is the spot. Is it authentic? No, but who cares. I love chicken and broccoli and moo shu pork. This spot is like all typical Chinese fast food spots, no where really to dine in, mostly a hole in the wall. They're cash only but prices are reasonable. The owner is usually there and he's the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Always down for a chat and super generous. I come back for the food and for him. Hospitality at its best. So

Kim X.

Yelp
This has become my go to take out delivery place for Chinese American food. I order on grubhub and the food usually gets delivered without any hassle. I like their broccoli platters. I've gotten shrimp, chicken and beef before. They've all been very good. I also get their fried chicken wings, which come perfectly fried. The lo mein platters are not nearly as good as the ones I grew up eating so I tend to avoid those. Otherwise, a few times a year, I find myself ordering take out from here.

Rey G.

Yelp
They are amazing also food super delicious. Their service is outstanding and respectful in what they do for customer service. They are very ambiance great place to order love you guys.

Yelp
This is the place to go for Americanized Chinese esp if you grew up in NYC or the burbs in the 90s and earlier. The place is take out or delivery via an app only. It's nasty looking inside with boxes and the like piled up and no seating at all in the spring of 2022. I ordered a boomer's meal of spare ribs on the bone , shrimp chow mein, pork fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was perfectly crispy and greasy with the perfect combination of cabbage and meat. One the the best in the city. Spare ribs where only slightly charred so I'd say Wo Hop still wins the best spare ribs for that. The fried rice is very yellow and has no scrambled eggs but it's sooo tasty !! The chow mein, as per my request with no bean sprouts, was very juicy and what I mean it had a nice amount of chow mein sauce which I love. Oh- and fyi , remember there's 2 kinds of chow mein, the veggie one with the crispy noodles on the side that is more prevalent in NYC. Then there's lo mein. They will ask you which one you want. The star off of bc of the extremely measly sized crispy noodles that were provided for my chow mein. It was about 15 crispy noodles in the bag. And a half star off for no scrambled egg in the fried rice. But still , it's a solid old school Americanized Chinese take out or delivery. The best In the LES and EV.

Shane P.

Yelp
The food was excellent and the service was just as good. They were accommodating and friendly. This is a cash only experience -- and well worth it. We had the Veggie Low Mein and Veggie fried rice and were very pleased. Would come back again if we're in the area

Sandra Y.

Yelp
Quick delivery. Food arrived hot in temperature. This time i ordered the chicken with garlic sauce.. so good!! Also beef lo mein.. yummy. Always dependable.

Sarah P.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't ordered from here before. I was craving egg rolls last night and decided to pop by and grab some takeout, so glad I did because the food here is absolutely delicious. It's a bit more expensive than I was expecting but this is the perfect Chinese takeout spot and everything I ate was exactly what I was craving. I got an egg roll, crab Rangoons and general Tso's with white rice. The egg roll was filled perfectly and just fried enough, not overly oily. The crab ragoons were the triangle shape (my least favorite) but still had enough flavor and were filled up nicely. I even ate the crust! I do wish that it came with some sort of dipping sauce, that's my main gripe. The general Tso's was top tier. The rice was sticky, yummy and the perfect consistency. The chicken was expertly fried and coated with thick delicious sweet, tangy sauce. Service was super friendly and fast. Overall the best type of take out. I look forward to grabbing to-go from here again. 4.7/5

Yelp
My go to takeout for Chinese food. I always get sesame tofu and veggie fried rice. I will always order from them! They're very quick too

Jaden C.

Yelp
Though over the years the prices have risen the food portions and quality have not changed. Anything I order is done to perfection. My favorite is the orange beef. I can't find it anywhere else and if I do it's never done as good. Here the beef is crispy, full of orange flavor and even has pieces of orange zest.

Dan T.

Yelp
Ordered the large sweet and sour chicken to pick up. Chicken was nice - crispy batter and juicy not overly oily but the sweet and sour WSS basic and not flavorsome.

Ryan J.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. After trying to say I didn't receive my rice three times on a call the woman screamed at me that the rice was there. I tried again to explain that the rice wasn't there and she just continued to get louder and screaming at me that there was rice. There was no rice. Do NOT order from here, plenty of better options in the area for Chinese take out and will actually deliver your food properly.

J Y.

Yelp
The service is great and the food is delicious.if you use a credit card you can order through their website.my favorite foods there are the Singapore mei fun, chicken mei fun and the young chow fried rice.salmon is good also baked or steamed.

Vincent C.

Yelp
Best Chinese food spot in the entire LES no comparison. Anyone complains is a yuppie from OT and doesn't know how things are done out here.

Happy M.

Yelp
Good food, reasonable prices, timely delivery, nice staff...overall great, reliable Chinese food. I order from here regularly!

Milo C.

Yelp
Fantastic lunch special! It came with rice and soup and was a good portion and quality for the price. I also got an egg roll. Delivery was on time and food was hot.

Jayshonna P.

Yelp
Good food. But terrible delivery service. Me and my coworkers order from here daily and Tip great Every time. Unfortunately today I didn't have enough cash to give a Tip and the delivery man yelled " F*** you " highly disrespectful and unprofessional. I will never order from here again.

Becky W.

Yelp
Solid, well-priced takeout! Chicken and string beans are good. A classic neighborhood spot to check out.

Sean L.

Yelp
Food is tasty and affordable. The portions are very generous in this day and age. The combo is my favorite, comes with a side.

Josh B.

Yelp
There's no glamour here, but the service was friendly and fast, and the shrimp with garlic sauce combo met its primary endpoints for quantity and quality. The ingredients were fresh, with decent snap for broccoli and other vegetables, while the sauce was strong enough to overpower a stuffed nose.

Bonnie P.

Yelp
This may be one of my favorite Chinese-American fast-food restaurants to order take out in the Lower East Side. I legit love that they are super fast, the food comes super hot and it actually tastes pretty good for a great price. Fried dumplings - huge portions and so juicy, the bottom is crispy and works well with the dipping sauce. The meat inside each of the dumplings is so juicy and delicious - I was really happy there was a great fried dumpling place nearby. Singapore Noodles - I have had this dish in almost every single restaurant, the amount and tastes are honestly so delicious that I have ordered a number of times as a late-night snack. This dish comes with a large variety of meats, like roast pork, shrimp, and vegetables. It is so filling and I am typically able to have this dish over the course of a few meals - since there is so much quantity but honestly it is definitely a dish that if you have not tried it yet, you should try. It's made with curry power, not spicy, and just so delicious. Have ordered tons of their other rice and noodle dishes, but the top two are honestly my favorite and go-to orders when sharing with folks. Deliver is so fast and great, make sure to tip well!

Yelp
My stomach yearned for a greasy Chinese takeout spot. As I made my way towards Chinatown there was a surplus of Chinese takeout spots. I'm usually bold enough to arbitrarily pick one with a classic eeny, meeny, miny, mo, but I wasn't that bold today. I needed delicious Chinese takeout. I found out about this place through Yelp. And it surely satisfied my appetite. As I walked in I noticed the classic Chinese takeout items: general tso's, orange chicken, chow mein, etc. A great sign. I ordered the chicken with green bean. The food was cheap and quickly provided. As expected from a takeout spot, the portions were sizable. There was a good amount of chicken, a large number of green beans, and enough fried rice to replace every grain of sand on Manhattan Beach. So this place actually threw me off guard a bit. It actually didn't taste very unhealthy. It wasn't inordinately salty and the grease wasn't overbearing. Despite that, it still tasted delicious. The chicken tasted very tender and fresh; I can imagine a chef beating the meat with a mallet prior to cooking. The green beans were thoroughly cooked. They didn't have that annoying chewy texture where it never feels safe to swallow so you endlessly chew them. Naw, just a couple chews and down it went. Overall. Great spot.

Christian C.

Yelp
It seems that there are a plethora of traditional Szechwan cuisine options in the neighborhood...but sometimes you just want good old chinese takeout, and this place scratches that itch amazingly well! I ordered takeout and sampled a few entrees all of which were excellent, but was just as impressed by the fried rice which was flavorful and delicious (usually is mushy and tasteless). Definitely won't be the last time I order here!

Lauren K.

Yelp
Very easy pickup and nice staff. Chicken lo mein, beef and broccoli, and Chinese broccoli were very good. Perfect for an American Chinese craving. The white rice is also pretty good for just being white rice.

Nikolai V.

Yelp
Best General Tso's Great noodles and fried rice too Don't sleep on the beef

Vince W.

Yelp
One of the better Chinese take out spots in the local area. They always, always make their orders fresh and they give a generous portion unlike some other places that'll literally give you a few pieces of poultry and then stuff the container with cheap veggies! The food here is legit tastier than other take outs. The owner is husband and wife and they are always at the counter to greet all the customers and make sure your orders are correct. I've lost count on how many times over the years I've gotten food here. Prices are reasonable and the orders come out fresh! They have at any given time 3-4 chefs cooking. That tells you that this place gets a ton of biz. Thanks and will be back real soon!

ILing L.

Yelp
First time try this Chinese takeout place (Golden Forest)) ..feels been cheated coz the scallions pancake is just from frozen type...As for those Fried Rice with meat n veggies taste good ...

Sally G.

Yelp
Unfortunately, it has closed. Hoping it will return but not looking good right now as it has canceled all delivery services permanently and their phone does not take messages (some weird "pow pow pow pow . . ." recording picks up after several rings). Aw, too bad! The food was good.

James G.

Yelp
I've been in the neighborhood for at least 8 9 years once in awhile I have a problem with this restaurant I know it's busy but when I call and they don't tell you you have to wait an hour that's wrong then when I call and ask the manager and tell him why that I have to wait so long that I don't live far I'll come pick it up he had no real explanation so then I said to him I always give your guys$5 $6 for delivery because they always come quick he told me tonight he don't care what I tip even if it was 50 bucks this restaurant is going down food is getting bad but the prices are going up higher you make a choice I don't think this restaurant's any good anymore Is crazy when someone tells you they don't care about what you pay them delivery guy because he's the owner And this happened at Golden Forest on Grand Street I have no reason to lie I spoke to the manager on the phone for him to tell me that he didn't care about my tip

Katie D.

Yelp
Lovely people who work there and great Chinese take out. Simple and delicious and affordable

Jay K.

Yelp
Terrible Experience with this business , they will not take your order or cancel your order if you don't tip them. I even called because I really needed lunch to be delivered and didn't understand why it was being cancelled after ordering on each app , and the person on the phone asked me if I was tipping or would be tipping and then if I was he can take and accept my order on the app . Also delivery men from this business are extremely rude and hostile if they see you didn't tip on the app , they don't even allow you to go and get cash before yelling at you and making you feel uncomfortable.

Jason C.

Yelp
Alright, I'm not gonna lie, I ordered delivery here cuz I wanted an authentic NYC experience: eat unauthentic Chinese food such as general tso's chicken with broccoli and a thick crusted egg roll. Sweet and tangy chucks of mildly crispy chicken over a bed of fried rice. Not bad. It's like orange chicken without the orange haha. I also ordered the beef chow fun. It looked good but lacks the "wok hay". Overall portions were huge. Meal didnt disappoint and my gut wanted to explode from the large portion sizes. Good comfort meal indeed. I had this order delivered and everything went well.

William G.

Yelp
Extremely fast delivery on seamless! Portions are huge and the overall flavor seems very clean tasting. For the Kung Pao chicken it was more veggies than chickens though

Mike P.

Yelp
OK, so I was working remote today, since I was in the mood for food, us Chinese just call it food, and they're just down the block from me, I decided to call in my order and then head over to pick it up. Right when I was getting ready to leave my place and let my colleagues know that I was stepping out for a few to pick up my lunch and asked my colleague to grab the hotline. Just my luck, the hotline was still bouncing to me. Had to get on a conference call and was stuck on it for over an hour. I'm like damnit, I ordered something fried and it's gonna be cold and soggy when I get it. So after my call, went to pick it up, the lady was like, "wow, this was a long time ago." And asked if I wanted them to heat it up for me. I was astounded that they offered and quickly told them that it would be great if they can. 1 minute in the microwave and back home, the food was hot, and surprising now, not as soggy as I thought it would be, I was still able to enjoy my food. Taste wise, food was good. I enjoyed it and tasted as expected.

Soulayphet S.

Yelp
Been ordering from this place for over a decade and it hits all the right spots if you know what to order! Chix wings good! / crab Rangoon extra crispy / sesame chicken combo with pork fried rice! Small order spare ribs with bone / egg drop soup is solid or hot & sour also solid! Roast pork lo mein which I fix up at home with my condiments of / fried garlic/ peanuts / hoisin / sriracha if you have some Thai basil or regular basil chopped inside! Last part of the lo mein is not part of the restaurant options just what I like to add at home! Family run joint! Support small business especially ones that support the community with good affordable takeout! You're a douche bag if you leave a bad review of a restaurant, just don't go back!

Mildred R.

Yelp
While I have to admit that the food is pretty good here it's WAY too expensive. I ordered chicken wings with pork fried rice and boneless spare ribs with pork fried rice and it came out to $33. Ummm ... yeah. Since covid their prices have tripled and they haven't even had the courtesy of updating their menus.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Honestly the best takeout places in the neighborhood. There are obviously some extremely fine dining establishments just down the road, but if you're looking for cheap and good food this place never fails. Cash Only or you can order online, they let me take as many soy sauce packets as I want, and the portions feed me for 2 days. Super good egg rolls too, definitely love this place.

Jenny F.

Yelp
If you want classic Chinese delivery that's also affordable, I'd say this is your best bet in the area. This place has all the typical dishes and lunch/dinner special combos that save you money, too. I ordered the lunch special for shrimp and snow peas. It comes with a choice of soup and pork fried rice. The rice is surprisingly bland for being so yellow and giving the appearance of flavor, but what can you do. The little pork bits were salty. The shrimp and snow peas was actually really good imo, but I only got 2 shrimp in a whole entree. I guess it was the combo, so maybe that's why. Lastly, I chose hot and sour soup. It's disconcerting how gelatinous the soup is... but at least it's pretty good? Also not overwhelmingly salty. For the price, speed, and flavor, I think 4/5 is fair. I would have liked (1) more shrimp, and (2) for my soup to be a liquid lol

Max R.

Yelp
Go to Chinese food spot in the LES for the past few years. Quick order and delivery time too

Charly A.

Yelp
Fire Chinese food. It's cheap, tastes amazing and it's hot. What more can you ask for from a hole in the wall Chinese spot? Highly recommend.

Denise H.

Yelp
The egg foo young had big pieces of some kind of chewy "meat", and the gravy was watery and tasteless, and the exact same color as turmeric. I paid $23.00 for an order of egg foo young, and a order of fried chicken wings. WHAT A WASTE!!

Sarah J.

Yelp
Solid American Chinese food. General Tso's was okay, pretty bready. Reasonable price, cash only but they have an atm in store.

Gene V.

Yelp
Always a hit with me, best hole in the wall Chinese in the area...delivery is always quick and food arrives hot.

Marc F.

Yelp
This is my go-to Chinese takeout spot. I'm not talking authentic Chinese food. I'm talking about your chicken and broccoli or your General Tso chicken. For what it is, it's cheap, one of the few places around that accepts credit card, and speedy pickup/delivery times. The food is generally solid, but I usually stick to the same few dishes based on my mood: chicken and broccoli, beef and broccoli, beef and eggplant, General Tso chicken, fried chicken wing. I have had the lo mein delivered on a couple of occasions and it was incredibly greasy. Although, if you're ordering from the greasy spoon equivalent Chinese restaurant, then you should know what you're getting yourself into. Overall, would definitely recommend for a quick takeout dinner or rainy day delivery.

Hector C.

Yelp
This place here is the has to best fast food Chinese food. It was also featured on the fung brothers show

Ozzy M.

Yelp
This is usually my go to Chinese restaurant spot. I've been ordering from here for years now and 95% percent of the time they get my order correct. The food taste good. The delivery is quick and the service is great. They don't have a problem adding or removing items on your food (say if you want less sauce on your shrimp and broccoli or ketchup on your fries) and they are open to 11pm. I will continue ordering from here hopefully for years to come.

Gprime 8.

Yelp
Their name suits them perfectly because this place is a gold mine for good Chinese food! Ordered the Hot N' Spicy Garlic Chicken... Out of this world! Delivery time was quick and prices are good. If you ever want a quick, tasty Chinese takeout, call them!

Inez M.

Yelp
ATTENTION ATTENTION!!!!!! THEY ARE OPEN AGAIN.... wooo hoooo I called in personally to ask and literally screamed out loud to here a YES WE ARE on the other end!!! This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant in all of NYC!!!! LEGIT THE BEST... the food is ALWAYS fresh hot and just down right amazeballs deliciousness. I'm gonna be 40 and this takes me back to my after Junior highschool days getting fried chicken wings with extra crispy French fries drenched in ketchup and hot sauce DELICIOUS!!!! My fellow NEW YORKERS if you're reading this do yourself the favor and make this place your new favorite Chinese food spot!! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!! PINKY PROMISE!!!!!!

Casey W.

Yelp
- good/great chinese take out (you don't order chinese take out for a real chinese food experience, that'd be like ordering mcDonald's as an american food standard, fast food is fast food) - recommend: general tso's chicken combo, chicken and broccoli - can't give them the 5th star because I'm pretty sure they use MSG but hey, it's not like I'm eating take out all of the time, every once in a while won't kill me - fast delivery and reasonable pricing for large portions - do not order: the "fresh" lemonade, it's neon yellow and definitely just made with a powder mix; fried chicken wings
