Freaking Delicious. The house fried rice was amazing. Shrimp, pork, and little tiny bits of perfectly fried beef in a house fried rice. The portions are enormous. We were more than satisfied and we took food home. We had the combination dinner. Egg roll, Soup, House Fried rice, Sweet-and-sour pork, and Mongolian beef. We ordered the appetizer platter that came with egg roll, pork, cream cheese rangoon, fried shrimp, and fried pot stickers. We did not get alcohol or soda. Our total was $83. I tipped $25. Grand Total was $108.00. This restaurant was busy the entire time we were there. Plenty of people coming and going lots of takeout.

Google
I don't say this about a lot of chinese places. But this is truely some good food! Fresh, great portions, tasty. We sat down and also had very good service! This is now on my list of chinese places I frequent. No idea of how take out is so I will try that next time. But dine in was wonderful!

I’ve eaten here twice now. First time was dining. Second time is takeout. Both times. The food was delicious. I ordered the same thing because if it’s not broke why fix it I ordered the letter N, which is Mongolian beef and sesame chicken. The only reason why I didn’t give five stars, across-the-board on all categories is because when you order takeout, they don’t say anything to you or tell you, but you’re not gonna get your egg drop soup which if you dine in you would get soup but if you order takeout, even though they have the takeout containers they don’t give you the soup. So aside from that it’s my new favorite restaurant for date night. We will hust be dining in from now on. The food is 💋*Chefs Kiss*💋 though!

Google
Very disappointed in the service. We had planned feeding a group of people with individual plates. Our order was discussed and approved in advance. The manager called back later and said they were going to refuse to fill the order of 30 meals individually, but would only offer to cook a large buffet style otherwise they expected us to cancel the order. This was not what we agreed on and put us in a tough spot to find a new restaurant last minute. Very frustrating

I've been a regular here and this is my experience. Dine-in: A lovely place with kind waitresses. The food has always been great, but the price can be a bit much. Overall, I would still go here again, but mostly for lunch. Delivery: My only gripe is that they have a minimum for an order, which is at least 2 entrées worth. So it's not for those eating for themselves. But they personally deliver and are quick as they can be, which is much appreciated. Portions can be a little different at times just to be aware. It's still one of the better end Chinese places I've tried in Alaska.

We ordered food for pick up.. the food was good, and ready fast.

Google
First time eating here. The food was delicious! I wasn't expecting there to be so much food on the plate when they brought it out. Definitely expect leftovers.

Google
The worst place ever to order an hour before they close. Ordered House Fried rice with Szechuan chicken, picked up the order got home and got some plain white rice and some nasty sticky chicken with only hard carrots in it. Taste horrible will never go to this place. It was gross. Waste of gas and Money.

Yelp
Excellent service, friendly staff Generous portions . Can't wait to come back. Very Clean

Yelp
The food here was much better than expected. My husband and I ate in and got one of the family meals. The meats were cooked and flavored just right. The crispy texture was perfect. I wish it had been a little spicier, but all all it was good. We will try things place again.

JoDee W.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised. HUGE portions for the money. We ordered online so nothing to report on service or ambience. I would give 5 stars but have to try it a second time first.

Yelp
A new place for us to try! The interior is a little dated and dark at the back where the restrooms are. However the restroom is very nice, clean and modern. We were greeted immediately, and shown to a table. We were given menus, and chose drinks. I chose Beef Chow Mein, which is the specific reason i had wanted to come here - i see Lo Mein at many restaurants, but I've not seen Chow Mein at too many. Husband ordered Combination Dinner R, which consisted of Chicken Fried Rice, Egg Roll, Mongolian Beef and Chicken Chow Mein. Within 3 minutes, the cheery server came out with 2 bowls of egg drop soup. We hadn't expected them, though they're often on a set menu, mine was definitely not supposed to come with soup, but she gave me one anyway - so kind of her She was LOVELY! The egg drop soup was very nice - plenty of egg and cabbage, and the perfect temperature for eating. She got her eye on my Asian Hair Pin, which has a light up tea house thing on it, so we chatted about that briefly, whilst she admired it. Honestly, she has the happiest smile, i was very impressed with her. Within a few moments of finishing the soup, out came the main courses. Absolutely HUMONGOUS plate for my husband, and i knew there was very little chance of him finishing it - he was looking at himself the other day sadly, and announced he had moobs, so he's now eating less, and this is an absolutely massive plate of food. Then came my Beef Chow Mein, again, it's a huge plate, and i know that i can't finish this. Both plates are bejeweled liberally with the tenderest pieces of beef I've had in a while, and crunchy veg. Bean sprouts, crunchy noodles, lots of onion, and green (maybe zucchini?) along with a bowl of rice. Mine had a lovely dark coloured gravy/sauce too, it was very yummy. I did my best, but of course i had to get a takeout box, and it's full. I would definitely go back. I've never had such speedy and happy service in a restaurant before. She seemed genuinely delighted to see us, and i really liked that. Excellent service, and good food.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite Chinese in Anchorage. Slowly over the last month's it's gone downhill. Portions are smaller, recipes have changed. What used to be good chicken fried rice is now plain fried rice. No color to the rice except a couple peas and carrots the looks like they were poorly reconstituted. They attempted to remake our last order but failed the 2nd time as well. $50.00 in the trash. Needless to say it's our last time there. In search of new favorite Chinese place.

Bev H.

Yelp
Very nice owner/server. Food was ok--Lo mein was an overly generous portion that could have fed at least 6 but we only were 2. It had copious amount of bland gravy. Decor/ambience was nice.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and was 100% thrilled with the fast, friendly service that accompanied a hot, delicious lunch special. It has been awhile since I have had Chinese food this good. Definitely coming back

Yelp
I have recently found this restaurant and I've been there a few times over the past 6 months. I've taken my family, I've taken coworkers even recommended this place to my boss, but this last time was different. Me, my wife, my mother, my mother-in-law, and my son went to have dinner. Food was decent. My wife's fried rice was a little cold and the crispy duck was a little dry but other than that no huge complaints, we didn't even mention it to the waitress. The waitress, whom I've never seen work here, brought us the bill and we noticed there was an 18% charge on there. I asked her what was the charge for as we have never seen this on the bill before. The waitress says for parties of five or more, which isn't unusual for most restaurants, but like I said, we've never been charged this before. The waitress said the manager told her that she can add that service charge on certain parties if she feels she's not going to get a tip. There were two other tables occupied in the whole restaurant, and she never came back to fill our water after bringing the food, I still would have tipped, but the fact that you're going to add on a charge to whoever you feel like, whenever you feel like, doesn't sit well with me. Again, I'm with my wife, my mother, my mother-in-law, and my son I'm not gonna make a huge scene. I paid the tab and I told her we will never be back.

Yelp
Had a early dinner, along with "dinner prices." The fried rice AND sweet sour pork was SOUR! This was odd and unpleasant. The portions was very small, it (food) did not even cover the white rice foam. Egg drop soup was lukewarm which made me wonder about food temperature safety. I asked to speak to a manager or the cook, we had a communication problem. Nothing was resolved. Little bit later the waitress came and said the peas were sour... I asked then why are they being served....blank stare. Lots of red flags....be aware. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
We have been searching forever to find our Chinese food spot and we found it. The food hit the spot perfectly and both dine in and take out was easy and enjoyable. For those looking to scratch that Americanized Chinese food itch, this is the place.

Star B.

Yelp
After going to Jimmy's Asian food on Tudor, I think we will stop going to the Golden Gate. The chicken here always seems to be dry and hard, the egg rolls are "slightly burnt" The customer service here is very nice but the food seems to be overcooked. Give Jimmy's Asian food a try.

Anela A.

Yelp
so my girlfriend & I tried to order from Golden Gate because she said she really likes it there & i've never tried. we don't live far, maybe 5ish mins so we know we're in their delivery zone. as we're in the middle of ordering one of the workers on the other side of the line goes "nope" & hangs up on us. extremely rude. so fuck you guys lol

Yelp
This is by far the best chinese restaurant in Anchorage. They serve huge portions and tons of rice. The staffs are very friendly and welcoming. We've been going here for years and no other chinese restaurants can compete. We always order the same dish. Spicy mongolian beef, spicy kung pao chicken and korean sweet and sour beef. Yummy!!! *they even have a korean menu :)
google avatar

Ian H.

Yelp
I don't live in anchorage anymore, but when I do come back for a quick visit, this is the first place I stop by. It is quite expensive and portion size doesn't make up for it, but the taste does. A meal for two can get up to $50 plus a tip. Make sure to get the hot chicken wings!

Yelp
Early dinner, late lunch--ordered from the regular menu. Service was good, the soup arrived luke warm, the tea was served in paper cups(covid issues???). Our entree's came promptly but they too were not piping hot. The fried rice was cool to the touch, the main items, mongolian beef, sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken, and kung pao chicken were warm enough but not what I would call "fresh" hot.(there were two tables of diners so being too busy was not an issue). My egg roll was cool to the touch. All of the food was very tasty, and abundant(lots of leftovers to take home) but prices have certainly escalated . Dinner for two was over $75.00, a bit pricy for middle of the road food and service. I still like the food--please just address the serving temperatures to get 4 or 5 stars.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to go when I'm craving Chinese. The interior of the restaurant is not lavish, but the food has never disappointed me. The first time i visited we ordered the "Golden Gate Special Dinner". We were skeptical upon ordering (as it wasn't cheap--and your basically getting a surprise multi-course dinner), but it was AMAZING. Each time we have gone back normally order the House or Szechuan dinners. Each time the portions have been enough to fill us up--plus leftovers!

Yelp
This is my favorite chinese restaurant in town! They have amazing service with a secret korean/chinese menu that only Asians know about (-; Check the last page on the menu and ask them to interpret. They are all delicious korean twists on chinese staples.
google avatar

Jim F.

Yelp
Best egg foo young ever! Great menu ... nice people, good food, includes white rice , you have to ask for fortune cookies

James M.

Yelp
Looked at the menu on GrubHub ... Szechuan chicken looked delicious. Nice chunks of chicken in a sauce, lots of bell peppers, onion and carrot, with dried chilies. Should be spicy and delicious. Also ordered Hunan beef. The "Szechuan chicken" was an entire foam clamshell of gummy breaded fried chicken chunks, plus five tiny 1/4"x1/4" pieces of carrot. Not a pepper or onion to be found. Not spicy. I thought they gave me an order of Sesame Chicken or something, but no, it was apparently correct. Nothing like the menu... I understand that food doesn't usually look as appealing as a staged photo, but this wasn't even close. Didn't appear to be the same thing at all. Hunan beef is okay, but absolutely drowning in a sauce that is a bit spicy but somehow still bland. It's getting a good drain in the sink before lunch tomorrow. On the plus side: the rice was decent. Not great, but decent. Sorry, Golden Gate, it's over between us.

Yelp
I know that Golden Gate Restaurant primarily serves Chinese-American food, but I give them 4 stars for having one of my favorite Korean dishes, and for doing it well. Jajangmyeon (jah-jung-myun): a Korean noodle dish topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang (a salty black soybean paste), diced pork and vegetables, and sometimes also seafood. [source: Wikipedia] The jajangmyeon is so good that even a Korean friend of mine goes there just for the authentic and familiar flavors of home. Not many people have even heard of jajangmyeon, but it is definitely worth the try, no matter where your tastes lie.
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
Hands down the JAJANGMYUN and JJAMBONG place in town. The price might be high, but the portion size makes up for it. I take my son here for special occcasions every time. I recommend it. There's usually one grandma and probably one grandpa in the back who does everything so the service might be slow and cold but it's worth the wait.
google avatar

Jack S.

Yelp
Great food and service. This place is your typical american style asian cuisine. Like many of these restaurants in Atown it is run by Koreans. Those Koreans sure know how to serve that Chinese food. Their lunches are better than dinners... That is for sure. Love coming here and when in town I always do
google avatar

Kristen F.

Yelp
I have been ordering their spicy vegetable fried rice for a total of 4 years now. They make it extra spicy too! LOVE IT
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere with welcoming servers and cooks. Ordered the combo A and came with more than enough food for me (big eater too!). The restaurant was very clean and organized. Highly recommend ordering the start of their show, the spicy fried chicken wings and the Jam Pong (spicy seafood noodle soup). I CANNOT recommend these dishes MORE!!
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service from the servers however the food really is mediocre best, I only came here because thai kitchen was closed and relocating to a different location, I will say the portion sizes are fairly large but you most likely will not finish it because it really is just ok food, the ingredients themselves seemed fresh and that was great, however i would not come here again.

Yelp
After reading some positive reviews, I was excited to try this place yesterday. I was initially put off by their second/secret menu: dishes weren't listed or explained in English, and it was far neater and cleaner than the English menu I saw. This was not only an curious business decision, but it sent me a message regarding service levels for English-speakers. After learning that the much-touted "jajangmyeon" dish-- fancy noodles-- was priced at $19 I left, insulted. I recognize that this is Alaska and things cost more, but some places are absolute ripoffs. You can get half a duck for $16 a few doors down. After my "experience" I learned that the most expensive jajangmyeon in Korea is priced at 12,500 won, or $10.42 (served at a Hyatt hotel). Does 80% markup sound fair for a dimly-lit dungeon with the decor of a student lounge from the '70s? We deserve better. BTW the Korean places on Northern Lights or Fireweed are incredible and far more reasonable.

Veronica S.

Yelp
I ordered for pick up and my food was ready in 15 minutes. Everything was absolutely delicious and the lady who handled my sale was very nice (:
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
Very good food. Large portions authentic flavors. Service is fast and friendly. Have dined in and taken away both were great. Very fresh veggies. The place is spotless. Closed on Sundays! Coldest beer in town, perfect with the spicy pork with garlic sauce.
google avatar

Olivia W.

Yelp
I feel like this place is overlooked, because when we go here there aren't really too many other customers. But they have really great combination plates and the price isn't too bad either.
google avatar

James F.

Yelp
I have been ordering here for years. The food is always great. I pretty much get my favorite, Mongolian chicken, every time. Tonight was the first time they got our order wrong. Sent Mongolian beef instead of chicken. I called and they apologized. They got us the correct food very quickly. I really appreciate that. Not only excellent food but excellent service.
google avatar

Christopher S.

Yelp
First time ordering and the last. The almond chicken was great, until I bit into the foul piece of chicken. Now I have a sour gut and have been puking. Will not try this place again. A complete waste of money.
google avatar

Marinelle P.

Yelp
I ordered sesame chicken and beef and broccoli togo. For some reason, I can't find the chicken in all those breading. I decided not to partake the sesame chicken. The beef and broccoli was alright, nothing to be excited about. This is a Chinese restaurant without fortune cookies.
google avatar

Carol M.

Yelp
This place is great! There are many things I like about Golden Gate but the number one thing is that the food always taste fresh. Plus, it is not swimming in sugary sauces. When my husband and I go we always take enough home for another meal. It is the only place I have had Mongolian Beef that was always tender, always flavorful and has the added crunch of rice noodles. The woman who always seats and serves us is very friendly. It's not expensive. Since we discovered this restaurant 3 years ago we will not eat Asian food anywhere else. The few times we have it was a huge disappointment in comparison.

Sam D.

Yelp
Pretty disappointing... "beef fried rice" this is not beef fried rice this is rice and a few pieces of meet and water color on the rice
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Yummy comfort Chinese food! And decent prices. I had the sesame chicken-couldn't eat it all, big portion but was excited to have left overs. Only didn't give 5 stars due to the fact they had 1 server doing all the service (she was doing a good job) it was just a little rushed to serve everyone.
google avatar

Smith W.

Yelp
Average food. Fried rice was pretty flavorless, Mongolian beef was decent. Woman on the phone didn't speak English very well so it was a little hard to get the order placed. No fortune cookies we're included, not a big deal but we were a little disappointed.
google avatar

Robyn L.

Yelp
The hot and sour soup is the absolute best, and yes, I've tried everywhere else. I haven't eaten anything else here. Always great, friendly service too!

Dawn T.

Yelp
We just had an amazing meal here! Fifteen of us showed up at 2pm and we ordered family style. The food was so amazing! The chow mien, egg foo young, shrimp and lobster sauce, and beef with veggies were all fresh and delicious. The Kung Pao Chicken has the perfect ratio of veggies, chicken and peanuts - and the sauce...OMG! Such a treat to have friendly service and great food! We can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
The staff here are always very nice and courteous, they have a decently priced fixed lunch menu and the food always comes out fast and hot!
google avatar

Jennie H.

Yelp
My family and I have been coming here since it opened, and while it isn't haute cuisine it is what I think of as good, comforting, giant-portioned, Korean-made Anchorage Chinese food. I like the Szechuan shrimp and the Kung Pao chicken. The spicy seafood soup is delicious. But what really makes this place for me is the staff. Like I said, we're long-time customers, and the employees and owners are always attentive, kind, and welcoming.
google avatar

Jeremy C.

Yelp
We ordered for delivery, my girlfriend got food poisoning from their sweet and sour chicken and fried rice, though she said the food tasted fine. I had the Mongolian beef which wasn't terrible, not great either, it was a pretty spendy meal for all of that though but the delivery driver was very nice and our food was delivered 10 minutes faster than the estimate window.
google avatar

Tasha L.

Yelp
Took the older kid to Golden Gate for dinner tonight. While the little Asian lady was the ONLY waitress in the entire place, she was certainly our comic relief. She hustled here, hustled there, but never really accomplished anything quickly. Food was your average, run-of-the-mill bland Chinese food. The special chow mein was not so special--gelatinous clear sauce with no flavor and a few vegetables. One dish, a soda, and some tea was $20 with tip. Spendy, in my book. Atmosphere is typical cheese-ball Chinese restaurant. Totally a throwback to how things haven't changed around here. Meh? Indeed, quite.
google avatar

Sena R.

Yelp
I've been going here for over 18 years for their Hot and Sour -- I is my feel good soup!
google avatar

Corinne L.

Yelp
HORRIBLE!!! Literally the worst microwaved Chinese food I've ever had!!! Extremely over priced and the food was gross and cold when we sent the cold food back they microwaved it and brought it back out!!! DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!
google avatar

Jodi H.

Yelp
Tried tons of Chinese restaurants in Anchorage and this is by far the best. Even out of state restaurants had me missing Golden Gate. Love their combos, good price and their workers are super friendly.

Rebekah C.

Yelp
Really in love with their chicken wings. It's so flavorful and the perfect texture. They also have a spicier version which is so good but a tad bit spicy for my liking. Not much of a spicy food lover but still love both versions of the chicken wings!

Cheyenne B.

Yelp
The crab rangoons are just fried creamcheese, disappointingly no crab. The meal overall was expensive and not impressive. We would like to support the business because we live across the street but will probably never go back.
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
Waitress was polite and the food came out fast. I was actually surprise that the food was really good. Didn't think they had good Asian food in Alaska but I stand corrected. This is now my favorite place to eat. Thanks to my friend!

Kyler B.

Yelp
This is probably the best Chinese restaurant I've been to in years. Service was nice, food was good, and food was fast. Coming back as soon as I can
