Golden Gate Tap Room

The thing about this GGTR is the ambience. On game days, I swear this place is the spot to be. I usually stick with the wings, or the Jalapeño poppers, but on a random Wednesday, I went in and got the 49er chicken sandwich. It was okay. The curly fries were honestly the best part. The food here is good drinking food in my opinion, but a bit pricy for the portion size. Get to the bar and order your drinks and food. Don’t wait, or else you’ll be waiting forever.

Gives an authentic small town old sports bar vibe. It’s on second floor. Open loft type atmosphere. Great place to watch football. I came to watch an NFL wild card game that was on Amazon Prime and they had it on because they have a commercial football TV package. The Golden Joe drink (pictured) was absolutely fantastic! If beer is you thing they also have a strong beer list. Food is just bar food (and mediocre bar food at that) but was hot and tasty. Five (5) jalapeño poppers were $10 which is pretty typical. Service was slow but to be fair it was packed with football fans so they were crushed. Would definitely come back.

Golden Gate Tap Room is a super cool spot to hang out, watch sports, and just relax with friends. They’ve got a solid selection of beers on tap and a full bar if you’re in the mood for cocktails. The place is pretty big with multiple floors, so there’s always something going on—whether you want to catch a game, play arcade and bar games, or just chill with a drink. Fun atmosphere, good vibes, and a great spot if you’re looking for somewhere lively to grab a drink and enjoy the game!

Solid spot to watch your favorite major sporting event. There are a ton of televisions, including a couple of large video walls, with plenty of seating. They even showed one of the NFL Amazon Prime games. The beer selection is solid with a wide variety of styles on tap and in cans. Full bar too. It’s one of those places where you order at the bar, so don’t expect a server to come to your table. But the bartenders were great. Food is typical pub fare, so lots of fried stuff. They have a happy hour which includes some food specials and $1 off draft beers. Arcade games are there too: hoops, pool, and pinball.

I’ve been here during conferences and it’s pretty good. Check out the happy hour and taco Tuesday night. I’d skip the quesadillas unless you’re into half cooked tortillas. I’m sure the decor is catered to the male crowd so if games and sports tv is your thing then it’s a decent place.

Okay, look, when you want a sports bar, you want a sports bar. This isn't the romantic date spot or the place you take new coworkers to impress them... unless they're Warriors fans. The space is large enough that there's room for a ton of TVs with an assortment of sports paired with speakers bumping great music and keeping the energy high. You're not here to decompress after a high pressure meeting, you're here for loaded tots and beer, SO much beer. The folks here are great, very accessible and cool with suggestions, especially if you're looking for something new to try from their stable of beers. Round up the troops, come watch the game(s), get it going with the bar grub and impressive beer selection and you will NOT be disappointed you stopped by. Just be ready to hike upstairs as the place is not on the ground floor. Thankfully, after a night of trying out great beers it's much easier to get down the stairs than up them... just, you know, try not to roll down them.

Fun casual place, no frizz. Great tacos. Bartenders friendly. Very laid back atmosphere. Younger audience. Warning, need to go up a lot of stairs, but it’s nice once you are in. Security guys at the entrance are very friendly.

Brilliant bar with lovely food. Very reasonably priced and located just off union square. I would’ve walked right past it as it didn’t look like much from the street but I will definitely return. Boneless chicken wings are a must too

Absolutely loved this place! Such a great place to watch a game especially with the multiple floors. Definitely recommend coming early for a good spot (rec sitting at the top floor where the games are projected on the walls) Food was reasonably priced and comforting but very oily, esp the truffle fries. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. You do have to order everything at the bar.

We arrived around 5:30 pm, just as the Padres vs. Dodgers game was on, so the place was busy but not overwhelmingly packed. Our party of 6 was split into two tables of 3, which was a bit disappointing but manageable. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. Drinks, including water, beer, and a margarita, took an incredibly long time to arrive. The margarita wasn't worth the wait--definitely not tasty. Our waiter seemed disengaged and even mentioned he hoped he could remember our orders, which didn't inspire much confidence. The food itself was a mixed bag. We ordered 6 tacos, fish and chips, and a steak with a salad. Most of it came out after about 20 minutes, except the salad, which took nearly 40 minutes. At least the fish and chips were tasty and had a nice crunch, but that's about the only highlight. We noticed that other tables that arrived after us received their food before us, which was frustrating. If you're here, maybe stick to ordering a beer at the bar--might be the only way to get something promptly. Overall, I wouldn't return or recommend this place. Normally, I don't write reviews while I'm still at a restaurant, but the slow service gave me plenty of time to do so.

Excellent place to watch games, eat good food and have a drink with a large group of friends. There's plenty of space here and it's fun! The service was kind and expeditious! Parking can be a pain in the ass but hey...That's Frisco!

Felt as though we got really lucky coming here during Santa con. The place to go after spending time at Union Square. Really crowded but the place is huge with multiple floors. Tons of games to play and screens to watch. Typical American bar food and the beer selection is amazing, as you'd expect.

Love it. Seriously can't tell there is a bar up there. Got I.D ed before going to the elevator. It's very big. Best place to watch and enjoy sports game. Everyone is friendly and you can enjoy your time here. While the games are on commercial, there are a bunch of arcade games around the whole facility. The upstarts is usually open when there are big games. I have to say when I went back for SantaCon it was pretty great. Not even a block away from the square.

Big establishment with plenty of space to sit and big tv's to watch games. They have pool tables and arcade games. Nice date night spot. Big bar with plenty of choices of drafts with weekly changes in their crafts beer. We just had guacamole and chips so didn't try their other food. The bartender was working alone but was very attentive and even let us try the beers to make sure we enjoyed them.

This is such a fun place to come with some friends and/or family! They have some arcade games, a photobooth, and food & drinks! I came here for lunch and I got their mushroom Swiss burger. It was so good and super filling! I also chose to get it with curly fries.

Visiting SF for a conference! My coworkers and I wanted to decompress after a long day ! This place was great. Good beer . We didn't get any food but imagine it would be typical bar eats! Nice service! Good vibes!

Dust Bowl Therapist, Delirium, Ghost Town, Smithwicks, Franziskaner, and tons more...on draft! I thought this place was touristy being so close to Union Square but, was here for a meet up and now I'll have to come back for more..great service too!

I'm not ashamed to admit that on a five day trip, I ate here at three different times. Yes, I thought the food was so good that I had to come back for me. I'm usually not big on burgers, but I tried the burger named after the establishment and it was the best thing I have ever tasted. I don't love the policy of going to order from the bar, but other than that minor inconvenience, this place is fantastic . It has a bar and a bit of an arcade and has a very friendly vibe to it.. it's really cute for a casual date or a group of people to enjoy themselves. There's something for everyone.

Great location to watch sports. Usual bar food and good prices. I have been twice on two separate visits to sf.

A fun, lively sports bar supporting all of the Bay favorites -- they have three levels and plenty of big screens. I stopped in to watch the Super Bowl and the ambiance was absolutely electric -- if you plan on watching any sort of sports final, definitely plan on coming early to get a table. Despite how packed it way, the servers were really nice -- they were definitely super busy, but I can't blame them. The third floor was great for watching the game, since they have large projectors along the entire wall. The food here is decent and they have tons of great beers on tap -- I liked my Cheese Quesadilla and the Jalapeño Poppers were great to share. I'd totally come to cheer on the 9ers or GSW!

Came here for a football game after work with friends. The decor and vibes of the bar are good! Food is pretty good, buffalo wings were tasty but mini corn dogs were a little too greasy. Good beer selection as well.

The climb up was fun, but there is an elevator. It has limited seating so find one where you can, we sat at a covered shuffleboard table and watched them playing at another next to it. Sound carries throughout the open floor plan, so hearing the waitress was hard and hearing me also. The Cali Warrior Burger and Truffle Mac and Cheese was tasty but it wasn't my order. I didn't say anything because I was just happy to be eating something other than peanut butter sandwiches for a change. Eventually the waitress did realize I got someone else's order and apologized. My favorite thing about the place was their selection of beer & cider. The Alcatraz Amber Ale is enjoyable, a slightly sweet malty flavor by San Francisco Brewing Company.

Good place to hang with a large group and play some games. Also came on a Friday night, with some people hanging out to play pool, arcade games and just enjoy a beer. Large list of beers on tap. Service was nice and quick too. Prices were decent, and they also had a "spin the wheel" deal for $7. Fun for the thrills! It is a few flights of stairs to enter. Recommend taking the elevator if you're tired or a little tipsy coming down! But fit the golden gate theme well!

Super late review, all the way back in Sep'22, but was digging through my pictures, and remembered it, so I had to write this up! Narrow stairs to go up to the spot. We had a big group hang out and grab a few beers and play pool. Staff is friendly. I had a good time playing the basketball arcade game, and one of the staff saw I was a worthy challenger so she decided to play me for it. Both of us capped out at the high score, so that was a super fun competition! Street parking only.

Stopped in for a beer and a quick bite on a Monday night. Place was ~50% full. When I tried to ask the waitress a question her demeanor was beyond rude. Her "I don't have time for your question" means you don't have a need for my patronage either. Won't be back here again.

Hanging out with a few friends & our children on a Saturday. 1 friend recommended we eat here at GGTaproom because She goes often. when we arrived, security at the entrance asked to see the I.d of the adults in the group & then stamped wrists. We then walked upstairs to seat ourselves & then greeted by our server Rodrigo, who was kind and attentive. 1 person in our group had 1 drink & we were asked to give/ leave a card tab open for food & drinks before reviewing the receipt. This part was odd. Before food came out, we were given a receipt to sign, & then was able to close our card out. Food was good & was reasonably priced. Food prices was tax inclusive. We were not offered refills on our drinks ( not sure if refills were included) The place had plenty of games, t.v's & seating.

Great sports bar, my favorite to go in the city! They have 2 huge floors and a good amount of seating. The third floor has huge projected screens and any seat in the room is a good one. I do have to get there pretty early to get a table before big games. Food is really good and the portion sizes are great for sharing. Their system for ordering is elite and the staff is always so great. You definitely feel Bay Area pride when you're watching games here!

Lots of TVs and big TVS but not my scene. They're playing loud and corny music instead of the volume from the game in the main screen. Got carded to get in at 2pm and I'm almost 40 years old. When I approached the security guard standing on the street he didn't say anything so I asked, "are you carding" and he said, "to get in a bar?? Always." Okay, bro, calm down. I had to get a hand stamp to watch playoff baseball in the middle of the afternoon. It smells bad in here and everything is sticky.

Came here on a Friday evening. They were showing the Dodgers game! Great ambience and great selection of beer. Seats can be limited because it can get busy. Great place to hang out with friends and play games. Definitely coming back.

The service was terrible. We had a waiter and waitress walk past us several times and didn't acknowledge us. We ordered at the bar. A couple come in and are waited on immediately. First and last time here. Sports bar so of course it's loud. We were there on Monday night (10/07/24) for a quick bite and football after a long day of traveling.

A random find while searching for a break from a dance convention, this place turned out to be the perfect spot for a group of several families. There are different sections so groups of people could have some space to themselves. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and food and the kids were thoroughly entertained by all of the arcade games scattered around.

Cool vibe. Sports bar and arcade located above Powell on the 2nd floor. In a previous visit I found one of my favorite beers! In the past the beer selection was greater, there were more IPAs than anything and the few beers I was interested in weren't on tap or were out. Service was VERY VERY SLOW! Food was just MEH, not great, not horrible. Sandwich was more bread than sandwich. And appetizers were WAY overpriced. I'd skip unless they have a hard to find brew on tap.

My wife and I arrived around 10:00 PM on a Friday night in late June. We had just checked into our hotel and needed a quick bite to eat, so we popped into the Golden Gate Tap Room. There was security at the door checking all ids. After the ID check we walked up a few flights of stairs and went to the bar to order. We opted for boneless wings and fries. They have an extensive draft list. There were tears on several of the seats and I had trouble determining whether we had waitresses service or needed to order at the bar. This was a pretty basic venue. Food was ok, place had a Dave and Busters feel vs being a sports bar. We spent five nights in San Francisco and didn't return after our first visit. That was plenty. It's an ok bar, there are stronger options nearby.

5/5 as a spot to watch a playoff game, 3/5 at best for the food. The place is huge, with 3 floors each with tons of TVs and seating + standing room. If you want to catch an important game though you should prepare to come at least 30-40 minutes before it starts because it gets packed quickly! There's also acrade games scattered across the floors with the usual games like basketball, punching bag etc. The food is mediocre at best. The fries were like a much worse version of McDonald's fries, the nachos had cheese sauce instead of actual cheese, but at least the cheese quesadillas were solid. They have an extensive beer menu including a bunch of sours and I liked the Goses are Red. Overall a great spot to watch a playoff game but you're probably better off eating somewhere else!

GGTP is the place to be on game day if you're looking for high energy and great vibes! Everyone is super into it, making it a fun spot to watch the game. The only downside is it gets packed! so finding a seat can be a real challenge. If you're cool with standing or getting there super early, it's definitely worth it for the atmosphere. Drinks and food are solid too, just be prepared for the crowd! On days that the 49s are not playing it should be chill. Huge place

If you've ever been to St. Louis this is like an iTap there. Not a bad thing. Beers also appear to be cheaper than iTap in STL (which is super rare to see). Had a burger tonight, it was decent, far from the best I've had but no real complaints about it being except the price. The service was quick and on point. The vibe is a sports bar/tourist vibe which is not unexpected since it's in Union Square area. Not a dive bar by any means but def one of the best bars near SoMa if you want a large beer selection that includes multiple sours.

Fun place to watch football. Huge and crowded. But fun. Plenty of big screens allow to watch the game wherever you are. Fun and friendly crowd. Service was good. They we're trying to keep everybody happy even though it was packed. Food leaves a lot to be desired. We had the popcorn shrimp. It was soggy and greasy. Get there early if you want to score a seat. Fun place though. Would go back to watch a game.

Stopped in. Was warm in the restaurant, no air/breeze. Lots of great TV's to watch sports. Loved the fun atmosphere. Drinks were overpriced in my opinion. Didn't eat there but food did look ok. Quick bar service.

This is a lively place to meet friends for a drink after work. Not too loud to hear conversation. Extensive list of beers on tap. My burger with sweet potato fries seemed a little pricey, but I was blown away by the size of the burger. Truly delicious! The quality of the beef was the star. We had a little attitude problem with our waitress, which caused my friend to declare he wouldn't come back. But hey, the burger was really good, so I'll probably return.

I love coming here to watch warriors game. It's always so fun. Only thing is you have to get here early to get a good seat. I personally love sour beer and the couple here are so refreshing. Would recommend this bar to any sports fans looking watch local sports!!

Love the atmosphere in this place and how nice the servers were. We ordered nearly half the menu and loved every part of it. The indoor arcade was a plus since it took a hot minute to receive our food and drinks. The only con was that they turn over tables relatively quickly since its a small place and tables are highly sought after, so our food was cleared when we left it unattended to go play games. Overall, I would come back to hang out with friends and grab a few drinks.

I was surprised when I opened yelp to see the Golden Gate Tap Room didn't have 5 stars! We were staying at the Westin St. Francis hotel only a block over and were on our way to Walgreens when we came across this spot. It looked fun and welcoming so we went in for a drink and a snack. They had such a large selection of beer on tap it was both exciting and overwhelming. I can't remember the names of the beers we all tried but each one was better than the next. We took a look at the food menu and it became an impossible decision - each item looked better than the next. Upon talking to the bartender, who was super kind and friendly, we decided on the carne asada fries. They were incredibly delicious. The meat was flavorful and the fries were loaded with so many toppings that every fry was a perfect bite. They had lots of different games to play like ski ball, pin ball, air hockey, foosball, pool and more. I would love to come back here next time I am in San Fran.

While the service by the doorman, hostesses, security, and even the manager were great - I am disgusted with the way this establishment treats its women patrons. Upon entry to the women's restroom, you are instantly greeted by a MASSIVE scale that says "have you gained or lost weight?" - yet this novelty is not in the men's room. (so big, you have to walk around it to use the stall) A few of us (who don't even know each other) all grouped together and went to the manager to share this feedback. Offensive and disgusting. Will not return and would not recommend until this is removed.

This is our home away from home when we travel to San Francisco to watch a game! They have a huge selection of beverages and decent food as well. Love being surrounded by all my fellow Niner fans.

We came on a Friday night to watch our favorite college team play. We are greeted by a friendly manager named JORGE, which is why I'm giving a two-star (gracias Jorge), and as we walk to the bar, we order drinks. The bartender was very rude and gave me casa amigos with Red Bull because he misunderstood me, which is understandable; however, his service was vulgar when I asked I'm sorry you heard me. I asked for Casa Amigos Reposado, not Casa Amigos Red Bull. He said I'm still Charging it's not my fault his vibe & attitude was unnecessary. Anyway, I asked to speak with Jorge. He made things right, so I'm appreciative of him. I would return just because the vibes were great but not return to service with that bartender

A great place to watch sporting events, they also sometimes have events for big games. Their beer selection is great and they have food too. It does get a little crowded so finding a seat is difficult often

Escape the crowds at Union Square for this fun and niche SF sports bar! Enjoy tons of big screens to watch whichever game is on and the classic sports bar eats - no complaints. Wait times to order can be longer during especially busy times because it's a large space, but be patient, the food/drinks are worth it. Take the elevator up or enjoy a decorated (yet steep) stairwell up. Family friendly, date friendly, you name it.

The vibes in this place are fantastic! I came here for a 49ers game and it was off the chart. Those who are not as interested in the game still have lots of arcade/pinball games. I came here for the ambiance not the food, but the food was still decent.

we stopped by here while we were waiting for our dinner reservations. my husband gets hungry easily so he also wanted some small apps. it was nice they have all these different games you can play. and they have tvs all over the place so def a good place to watch games! our server seemed so blah and flat affect. maybe bc it was the day after thanksgiving and sucked she had to come to work :/ but anyways, it took forever just to get us water and one blue moon. :( and the blue moon seemed like it was watered down.... i even had my husband taste it and he said the same. ended up getting just regular nachos (regular means it has bacon). i really didn't want the bacon but that was my fault. i should have read the menu better. but the nachos wasn't good at all. it came with guac and that guac looked like it was sitting for awhile... it was like gray/brownish. nacho chips were stale too. first time in a long time when my husband didn't finish food.

Golden Gate Tap Room was the first place we visited after checking in to our hotel. It wasn't planned, but I'm glad we stopped here. I loved the decor and ambience. They have a lot of fun games to play, and the seating is comfortable. I was surprised by how big the space was. With beers priced around $7, the prices are also better than what I'm used to. Very reasonable, and the menu had a lot of great options to choose from. We only stayed for one drink, but it left a memorable impression. I would definitely come back.

Amazing place to watch sports and have a good time. Only downside is that they don't have many servers taking orders. Be prepared to wait awhile to even get attended to order food and drinks.
