The Hit List: New Houston Restaurants To Try Right Now - Houston - The Infatuation

"Golden Time (originally from Richmond, BC, Canada) offers a party-ready spin on Chinese BBQ with individual self-turning tabletop grills. There’s a smoke-breathing dragon’s head, a scrolling neon sign that wraps around the entire dining room, and ‘80’s-era Chinese music videos projected onto the back wall. The sensory overload is half the fun, and the other half is choosing your skewers—beef short ribs, chicken wings, and eel make a good start—then sitting back and watching the action as they glisten and sizzle with each turn. Don’t miss the enoki appetizer. It's essentially a noodle soup, but with a garlic butter dashi broth so good, you'll want to drink it straight. Come here after 9pm for the best deals—half off alcohol and $2.25 for all beers on the menu." - brooke viggiano, mai pham, nicolai mccrary, andrew ryce, gianni greene, chelsea thomas

Google
Golden Time BBQ is a Chinese restaurant specializing in self-rotating skewers at the table. The space is open and lively, featuring large screens playing music videos on the walls, plenty of seating, and a smoke-blowing dragon head that's quite impressive. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic. The meat skewers are a bit on the smaller side, but the quality is solid. Plus, you get free ice cream after your meal.

Google
The skewers are tiny (relative for the price), the meat flavor is just alright - but fresh. Eggplant tasted a bit unseasoned. Service took a while to bring them out. And the biggest issue is the table design. The heat of the grill blasts in your face non stop and a conversation is difficult because the grill is blocking the view… Live cooking has pros and cons - if you have a good conversation going and forget to take them off - you’re cooked Personally, wouldn’t recommend

This place really stands out from the usual BBQ spots. Unlike Korean or Japanese BBQ, which tend to have a sweeter flavor, this Chinese-style BBQ offers a bold and savory taste that’s just as flavorful in its own way. The selection of meats isn’t huge, but what they do offer is excellent—especially the meat sleeves, which are tender and well-seasoned. The oysters were a bit of a downside—$30 for 6 felt overpriced, especially since a similar quality and taste can be found across the street for $20. Still, the overall dining experience makes up for it. The atmosphere is one of the highlights. It’s modern and stylish, with cool decor like a giant dragon and bull head, and an LED screen that adds to the vibe. Unlike some Korean BBQ spots, there’s no loud music here, which makes it easy to have a conversation without yelling over noise. It was a little warm inside, though, which might be uncomfortable on a hot day. Overall, despite a couple of minor drawbacks, I’d definitely come back again. It’s a refreshing twist on BBQ and worth trying if you’re looking for something different.

Went back 3 times in 3 weeks with friends, an authentic Chinese bbq experience. Great value, each meal average $35-40 per pax (including hot dishes, premium skewers, beers, tips). Recently opened; Trendy ambience, vibrant, with smoking dragon and bull. Fun watching skewer bbq rotate and grill in front of us. Our favorite appetisers: kelp and spicy cucumber. Our repeated orders: large lamb skewer (cooked at the kitchen), bacon and enoki, Taiwan sausage, honey chicken swing and fish tofu skewers. Tips: Sign up for membership to enjoy immediate discount. Beers half priced after 9PM (average $2.50 per bottle).

I visited this Chinese BBQ place last weekend and was pleasantly surprised. The skewers were flavorful, especially the beef and lamb—nicely seasoned and grilled just right. The grilled eggplant and mushrooms were also delicious and had a nice smoky taste. The restaurant itself is pretty casual and clean, with a relaxed vibe. Service was quick and the staff was polite, although not overly talkative, which I didn’t mind. The prices were reasonable for the portion sizes, and the menu had a good variety to choose from.

I stopped by this Chinese BBQ spot with a few friends and we had a great time. The food was flavorful and grilled to perfection. I highly recommend the cumin lamb skewers and grilled squid—they were juicy, tender, and full of authentic spices. The atmosphere was lively but not too loud, and the open grill gave the place a really cozy feel. Everything came out hot and fresh, and we didn’t have to wait long even though it was busy. The staff was friendly and checked in on us a few times to make sure we had everything we needed.

Google
I recently visited this Chinese BBQ spot and was genuinely impressed. The skewers were packed with flavor—perfectly seasoned and grilled just right. I especially loved the lamb and chicken wings. The atmosphere was lively but still comfortable, and the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Prices were fair for the quality, and everything came out fresh and hot. It’s definitely a great place to hang out with friends over good food and drinks.

Google
I am always on the lookout for new skewer restaurants in Houston because I love skewers. I’m so glad I found this place! I love how the skewers are cooked on a rotating grill in front of you. It makes the food hot for you to eat right away and also a fun way to eat. Everything tasted really good. I will definitely be coming back again!

Yelp
It was 2 hours well spent here. My party of 7 spared no time getting right to the nitty gritty of the meat (literally). Lamb, beef, pork, veggies, even the bread were all chef's kiss. Trust me, don't skip out on the bread. The crispy, buttery, flakiness of it is such a treat in between the meat heavy bites. I loved the interactive aspect of this dining experience, being able to watch the skewers cook right in front of you, which doesn't take much time at all. The servers were all attentive: made sure our waters were filled, promptly cleared up all the used skewers, and checked on us multiple time. I also appreciated the little cart that was under the table; it held everything we ordered and allowed us to keep the table tidy. It does get busy during dinner time. We waited about 45 mins to be seated, but it was well worth it. There is happy hour past 9pm: buy 1 drink, get 1 free. They also give you a melona at the end to round out your meal. Such an enjoyable experience. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Great concept on cooking your own skewers but just not for me. I saw a lot of great reviews so I decided to try for myself You scan the barcode with your phone and you have a variety of dishes. Each skewers were cheap $1 if you become their member and about $1-2 and change if you decide to skip out from being a member. Pretty cheap on price but you can definitely tell the quality and portion. In my opinion I didn't have a good experience. As side dishes we got: Edamame - over cooked where the pods and the membrane would fall apart. It's boiled w some herb which for me it tasted weird Spicy cucumber - good chucks of Persian cucumber and boy they are spicy!!! It also came with whole pieces of garlic which I don't like to eat raw garlic Ramen noodles - bland as hell - noodles were cook perfectly just the way I like it but the broth didn't have much taste Pickled radish - it was ok - I prefer the Korean white radish We were told for beef, lamb and chicken, eel, beef tongue skewers would take 8-10 and other dishes would take about 3-5 mins to cook and for that tiny piece of meat - all the skewers were marinated the same way. All with heavy herbs like dried oregano, thyme or rosemary. Only had 1 dipping sauce and some fried spicy condiment. Both didn't have much taste. We also ordered the lamb chunks that is served already cook and I was excited as the portion were about 1' chucks of lamb meat however both skewers had chunks that were not chewable as they served the tendon part and was marinated the same same as the other skewers. Our serve was somewhat tentative and we had to ask her to refill our water carafe I would say the $90 dinner we got for 2 best dishes was the eel and the free ice cream other than that don't think I would come back to this place

Yelp
A Hidden Gem from Vancouver Has Landed in Bellaire! Wow -- what a FIND! This little gem quietly opened up in Bellaire and I'm honestly surprised more people haven't discovered it yet. We came for dinner at 7 PM on a Wednesday and were seated immediately -- no wait, no fuss. Very small interior, though. I have a strong feeling this place is going to be viral soon, so get in while it's still under the radar! The vibe is super chill, making it perfect for literally any occasion -- date night, a hangout with friends, a big family dinner, or even a solo foodie adventure. It's casual but cozy, and the whole ordering system is incredibly modern and efficient. What I really love is how smart and budget-friendly the setup is. You scan a QR code at your table, order everything from your phone, and even track your tab in real time -- no surprises when the bill comes. And for group dining? Game-changer. Everyone orders at their own pace and pays individually, so no awkward bill math or passing credit cards around. No need to flag down a waiter each time to order either. Genius. Here's the BEST part: membership is FREE and gets you crazy good discounts -- like skewers for just $1 each! ONE DOLLAR. Yes, really! Like, how is this even real?! It's honestly a steal, and the quality was way better than I expected at that price point. I highly recommend signing up before you order. We tried a bunch of meat skewers, and each one was flavorful, juicy, and cooked just right. If going with family, be sure to set some ground rules about sharing because my brother got SO into his food that he went territorial and guarded his skewers like they were national treasures LOL. Still, here's what I did get to try and love: 8/10 Black Pepper Beef x4 8/10 Beef Boneless Short Rib x5 10/10 Eel x9 (This one was obviously my favorite! Eel sushi is my favorite but this is keto-friendly!) 7/10 Korean-style Pork Belly x4 7/10 Grilled Okra x2 (This was juicy to taste, but it's one skinny and small slices of okra per skewer.) Here are the dishes that arrived but disappeared or were claimed instantly before I could touch them: Shrimp Steam Rice x2 Spicy Cucumber Strips Beef Ligament Squid x3 Tempura x2 Thai Style Pork Chicken and Pineapple Pineapple (wedges) Lamb Chicken Gizzard Mantou Bread Beef Trachea Bonuses: + Tons of parking (a huge win for Bellaire) + Attentive and friendly staff + A massive menu with endless options to explore -- from classic skewers to fun sides and drinks. + Free Melona ice cream while you pay the bill! Bottom line: This place is a total win for anyone who loves juicy, savory food, low prices, and a fuss-free dining experience. Become a member, bring some friends, and enjoy the hidden treasure while it's still a secret. You'll thank me later!

Yelp
This place is such a vibe. They open 5pm-2pm specializing in skewers. We ordered a variety of beef, chicken, lamb, and veggie skewers and they were all pretty good. I love how you can just let the skewers rotate on the grill itself. The service is great as well. Food came pretty quickly after we ordered, and the servers were helpful in teaching and letting us know when some fully cooked. A special edition is we got Melona towards the end! I highly recommend coming here for some fun vibes with friends on a late night!!

Yelp
Delicious skewers! Love that we have this in town now after seeing it in S. Korea, and China. Keeps the food fresh and hot without having to worry about the meats getting cold. Ordering is very easy through barcode scan that pulls up the menu as well as checking out without having to wait on them to bring you the bill. They also provide perfectly mixed seasonings for customers to choose from at the table. Our favourites are the lamb skewers, pepper beef, Korean pork belly, and boneless beef short rib. The only concern is that the grill can feel really hot on the face even though they have the pull down vents...just did not feel strong enough. We brought electric hand fans to keep us cool. Definitely recommend coming with a group of friends to try different kinds of meats.

The BBQ skewers were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. Everything was beautifully presented, and the service was fantastic with great recommendations. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Such a fun & casual concept. I checked this place out after hearing about their happy hour through some friends. They offer BOGO on ALL drinks - Beers, Soda, and SOJU (!!!) after 9pm. It's similar to Gaos which is another kabob place down the street in chinatown, but it stands out because you get to see your skewers get grilled in front of you, and all to your rare or well-done desires. The skewers also are discounted during happy hour, so I was definitely enjoying myself! I'd recommend trying out a couple skewers just to see what you like, but I personally like the Pepper beef skewer and the tongue. The grilled oysters were also huge and it was a thai garlic flavor, very spicy if you eat a chili though. All around our servers were so nice and sweet and they took really good care of us, great spot for bar eats and drinks with friends!

Yelp
Amazing! Absolutely in love this place! The food was so sumptuous and had a lot of options. Service was on point. The place was filled with happy people. We came to celebrate my 45th birthday with my favorite people. We left with a full and happy belly. The concept is so much fun!

Yelp
Great atmosphere with a great happy hour after 9pm. Half off soju bottles and beer. Only downside is if you go with a group, cooking might a little longer.

Isabella L.

Yelp
Restaurant was cute vibes. I went for happy hour drinks after 9pm. They did buy one get one free for beers and sojus. The hallasan lychee soju was so good and by far my favorite. I didn't order food this time but my friends did and they said it was good so I will definitely be back to try the food. Service was decent.
