A San Antonio fixture since the 1970s, Golden Wok’s Wurzbach location still does the old-school cart parade on weekend brunch with scores of classics. Praised by San Antonio Express-News and repeatedly cited by local critics for its dim sum.

I haven't been to Golden Wok in over a decade & it did not disappoint. Food was delicious. Waitress was friendly. Sat at the bar & was a nice experience. Nice variety of alcoholic beverages.

Everything was great, just the portion was kinda small, like the oped kitchen, you get to see how they prepare the food!

Tell me why this is my fav Chinese restaurant in San Antonio. We lucked out on the night we went, the service was excellent. We started with their lettuce wraps and let me tell you that they’re wayyyyyyy better than PF Changs. It’s really the flavor in their sauces that sets them apart from other Chinese restaurants. I give the lettuce wraps a 10/10. The fried dumplings were another great appetizer. They were filled and juicy and fried to perfection. They even come with this great tangy sweet sauce. The dumplings I have to give a 10/10 as well. The sesame chicken was good but it wasn’t great. I don’t know . Like it tastes ok but I wouldn’t say it’s the best in San Antonio. I give the sesame chicken a 7/10. I think the sesame chicken is missing the crunch from the fried chicken. It doesn’t give it the wow factor but the sauce is good. The service was great and the ambience of the restaurant is very nice. You should definitely check out this San Antonio gem.

Came here on a Saturday at 11am. We ordered chrysanthemum tea and had some dim sum. Customer service was great and food was good. We had har gow, sui mai, chicken feet, tripe, scallop dumplings, snow pea leaves, and shrimp rice noodle rolls (not in the picture).

We all know the food is A-mazing here. However, hats off to “Crystal” their hostess with the mostess! As we were waiting, I watched her greet everyone & direct them to have a seat by the bar. This not only cleared the entrance/exit doorway, which is always crowded but also encouraged up-sale of drinks (smart). I also saw her wipe menus down & seat people. She had a positive friendly attitude & there definitely needs to be more people like her in customers service these days. Excellent job Crystal!

Google
The waiter Emily was great. Food however was pretty meh. Had the Orange Chicken, that had uneven bare chicken showing due to bad breading, which made the chicken really dry. Rice was fine. Sauce overall a bit bland as well. Not worth the price.

Google
Overall, it was okay. Wasn't my favorite dim sum experience, but there were some dishes that were good. My favorite was the sticky rice and pork buns. My son loved the roasted pork and BBQ pork, though. I actually loved the chili oil, too. I found the service on the slower side. We had no cutlery to eat while the dim sum carts were circling around. Turnover is fast, so we didn't have as long wait as quoted.

Hadn't been in years nothing beats this beautiful atmosphere. Still a great place visually. Had the sweet n sour shrimp sp good big shrimp, grate portions. Orange Chicken cooked to perfection. Definitely a must!

Yelp
The waiter was very nice, engaged in small talk, and I took a long time deciding my order, but he was very helpful. Sat inside by the glass across from the koi pond, very nice. The food is a good blend of flavors, sweet and savory. Friend took me here for the first time. Ordered: apps: peppered ribs Main: cha shu bao 1, sui mai 1, general tso chicken, wonton soup, Next time i would order more cha shu bao

Yelp
A friend loves this restaurant, I didn't know what to expect, but it's a full blown restaurant with its own large parking lot. And right before you enter, there's a beautifully landscaped water garden pond feature with live koi fish, plants, pagoda, and waterfall. Menu had a range of your typical Chinese dishes, with a large dim sum section that looked interesting. But, I went for their lunch special of the day- I chose the shrimp stir fry and substituted the pork fried rice with brown rice. It came with tea, egg drop soup, and fried wontons. The plate had a bountiful amount of rice, too much rice actually. The shrimp stir fry was ok, maybe add more of the stir fry and cut back on the rice? The egg drop was meh. Our server didn't check on us during our meal, we had to flag him down for more tea and to go boxes. Nice atmosphere though and the employees at the front of the house were very friendly.

Yelp
Golden Wok has gotten so damn good lately. You have to go on a busy weekend for lunch when they have enough people for carts or else you won't be able to experience all of their off-menu dimsum. It's never as good when I order to-go Things like their oily egg tarts will always be too greasy and a lot of their main menu items are more catered towards American flavors but they actually have a decent selection of dimsum. Don't miss out!

Yelp
Good lunch specials. Huge portions. Dare these days. Very fair price and delicious Chinese shrimp stir fry with real gulf shrimp NOT the tiny frozen shrimp that many Chinese restaurants have gone to lately. The soup was good not great and the pork fried rice was also tasty. The service was good and our server was attentive and kept our tea and water full. If you are near the medical center I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
I'm from Seattle with the infamous Chinatown & I wondered if I'd ever find a spot with comparable dim sum to my fave spots back home UNTIL I FOUND GOLDEN WOK I'm so happy this place exist. Good service. Feels like a clean and solid restaurant. It's perfect for dim sum cravings!

Yelp
You can smell the food in the parking lot. It smells so good. I always enjoy watching the coy fish. Food and service were great.

Yelp
My husband and I chose Golden Wok for our date night ! Our first time here! The restaurant has a beautiful entrance welcomed by a small pond on each side with koi fish swimming around and a fountain on one side. Ambiance was very lively and service was great from the moment we walked in! I ordered tea and my hubby ordered a Sapporo. To eat, we ordered a variety of dim sum: spare rib, shrimp sui mai, and har gau. We also ordered sesame chicken and we shared everything! Everything we order was delicious. Our order came out promptly and we were satisfied after finishing everything! Highly recommend! Restaurant has private parking lot with plenty of parking spots!

Yelp
Poor excuse for Chinese food. I doubt if anything is made in the kitchen from scratch. Ate about half of my lunch as did my wife. Didn't even consider bringing this bad food home to finish later Last time to dine at this place. Nothing more than fast food with table service. Nothing tasted fresh. Like eating leftovers. Not even that good. No more. I couldn't get home fast enough to get to the toilet. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Yelp
Lunch till 230. Some dim sum like the rice rolls not avail after that. They upped their prices Not cheap but worth it Always good service Rice stinks, it's the cheaper hard version, less one star for that They have vegetarian egg rolls wrapped in rice! Yum but you gotta ask, not in menu
google avatar

Yelp
Service could've been better. It took awhile to get the waitress to acknowledge our table. Dinner with the family was on point today. You should try the family portion of egg drop soup. It's literally enough for at least 6/8 servings. The shrimp friend rice was good. As was the shrimp Cantonese was perfect.

Yelp
Placed an order for takeout in-person on Thursday late morning. The employee was nice and patient, and he made sure to repeat the entire back to double check everything. The order took quite a while to make, but I waited at the bar, which had seating, so it wasn't bad at all. The restaurant is very calming and clean. When we ate the food at home, it was great! The egg custard tarts were flaky and sweet, the dumplings were very good too.

Yelp
I have heard a lot of good things about this place. I walked in and was seated quickly. I looked over the menu for the lunch specials. There were limited options available. I decided to get the sweet and sour pork. The soup that comes with it is egg drop so I asked if I could substitute for wonton. The waitress said I could substitute but there is an up-charge. I agreed and ordered the wonton soup. The broth in the wonton soup was excellent. I ordered an unsweetened tea to drink and didn't enjoy it. There was a strange aftertaste, I'm not sure if it was the water that was used or the tea bags. The presentation of the sweet and sour pork plate was very nice. The portion was generous, unfortunately the pork was very dry. I wanted to like the restaurant because of all the good things I read and heard but I did not have a good experience.

Yelp
One of Dad's favorite spots is @goldenwoksatx. We love the dimsum cart experience and getting to pick through all the food choices. From hakaw, dimsum noodles, chicken feet, chung fun, cha siu bao, egg tart, roast pork, and ham siu kok. Excellent service from Fidela and seeing Jimmy was great. If you need a dimsum spot, this is the place for you!

Yelp
My mom wanted dim sum so where to go? Golden Wok of course known for and weekend dim sum in addition to regular menu entrees. Dim sum is basically shareable plates like spring rolls, dumplings, spare ribs, etc. Today mom had dim sum and I ordered beef with broccoli with steamed rice. Everything was tasty and flavorful and cooked to normal temperature. Waiter was pleasant and helpful. We waited less than 15minutes to be seated which is great for a weekend there. This location is our favorite place to eat Chinese cuisine.

Yelp
I have to say that this place was delicious! My wife and I really enjoyed the food and the service was very remarkable. Our waitress had a great vibe and treated us very kindly. The restaurant was beautiful, koi fish swimming around and it was also nice to see sports playing on the televisions. Once again I really enjoyed the food and will definitely be back.

Yelp
We went here (a friend and I visiting my papa from out of town) because Papa's wife loves this place and had sent me Mike Sutter reviews. We were not disappointed. We were there for lunch during a weekday. The parking lot was full, but not packed. The restaurant has beautiful landscaping outside the windows viewable from the tables inside. The atmosphere is not sexy but nicer than just functional. Papa comes here every Saturday after Yoga and orders the Sweet and Sour Pork as well as dim sum dishes. We missed the dim sum, but enjoyed the lunch specials -- Papa got the sweet and sour pork :-) My friend and I ordered and shared appetisers. Calamari: REALLY enjoyed these. The batter is crisp and light, but the delicate scent of 5 spice makes these tender rings really special. No sauce needed, but the spicy sweet accompaniment is nice. The portion was big, but I would not have stopped eating if the portion was twice as big. Spring roll: Meh. I loved the crispy exterior and the well seasoned sauce, but the filling was overwhelmingly steamed cabbage. There is so much delicious veg that boiled cabbage flavour was depressing. Dumpling: Yes and more! We got them fried. One crispy side, tender wrappers, delectable chicken filling!! Ginger sauce was delightful and I would happily have them again. We try much want to return and get the duck... next time.

Yelp
Shout out to Norma and John for assisting in making a special request for one of their guest. They went above and beyond to help me. They get the MVP award.

Yelp
First time ordering from here. What I ordered was so bad. The crispy beef was covered in a sauce, making it soggy. No flavor at all. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Bad!!! I'd like a refund.

JoAnn R.

Yelp
The location on Marbach has the music too loud. The server had trouble hearing our order. We did asked for it to be lower but they said it could not be done. Very disappointed

Yelp
This is one of my top spots, food always amazing. Some visits I simply have appetizers, and that egg drop soup is amazing! The dim sum is good as well.

Yelp
If you're looking for quick meals at a great price, this is it. Dim sum wasn't the best.

Yelp
I came here for dim sum and was pleasantly surprised for how good it was! I definitely had low expectations for San Antonio, but it was a treat Love the dim sum cart experience. It's been harder to find that since Covid *sigh* We tried all the classic dishes - har gow, siu mai, wrapped sticky rice, black bean pork ribs, bbq pork buns, egg tarts, etc. Everything was good! Loved the sticky rice and bbq pork buns are always a hit. I don't think I had a bad bite. Not as amazing as dim sum in Houston, but I wouldn't hesitate to come again for a dim sum craving. Major gripe though: We ordered a bok choy dish from the kitchen and they never brought it out. They acknowledged that they had overlooked the order and it was never made in the kitchen; we were ready to check out by that time, so we cancelled the dish. When the bill arrived, we were still getting charged for the bok choy. So I pointed it out and the lady said they'd remove it. When she came back with the receipt, she gave it to someone else in our party (who was not paying attention, not his fault) and STILL charged us for bok choy! We only noticed after we split the bill and realized it didn't add up. Grr... So Watch Out!!

Yelp
Drive this place every weekend and its parking lot is always packed. Came Sunday of Lunar New Year to celebrate, and it was everything I wanted!! People pushing carts full of dim sum options ( SO MANY OPTIONS) all the time, and fresh restocking every so often. My eyes were picking more than I could eat. Got about 9 plates and spent $50ish with tip, which is great imo for quality dim sum. Tip: at 11:30 the wait line became insanely long, so getting there around 11 was great. Sat ASAP. Service for the food was good, but incredibly difficult to catch our waiter for water refill and check and ONLY your waiter could wait on your table (?) but still, can't wait to come back for more dim sum! Lotus leaf dish was the best ever.

Yelp
This was my mother in laws favorite restaurant. As such, we've been coming here several times a year. Great food, usually good service and always leave with full bellies!
google avatar

Yelp
It was very busy when we arrived for lunch. They have ok service, I wish I had more refills for my ice tea but they at least came around a few times. The food was just ok. The dim sum was average and the lunch special beef with broccoli was to me below average and to my sister average. I wouldn't want to order that again. The egg drop soup just tasted like chicken broth. Someone please tell me what I need to order to love this place like all the other people here! As people left I heard so many praises about the food and the place. They have a very cute koi pond up front.

Yelp
Sunday brunch/ dim sum Had just about everything on the carts + a to go cart lol good place

Yelp
While in San Antonio, we wanted dim sum and found this place and were glad we did. We got there probably by 1:30-2pm and were very busy but the wait was not as long as we anticipated. Staff were extremely attentive and the food service was a very quick turnaround, delicious and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Alexa S.

Yelp
I heard this is the best dim sum place in San Antonio, but that's all I can say about that. Don't have high expectations nothing like Houston, Dallas or maybe even Austin can offer. The sticky rice was dry. They don't have soup dumplings. Most of the staff is not Asian. Our waitress hasn't great. We didn't get silverware until we asked twice and no chopsticks. The waitress was irritated with us asking for stuff and not the quickest. In the end, she got better. The chili oil also has to be ordered.
google avatar

Ari E.

Yelp
The food was good. But a kid projectile vomitted just 2 feet away from our table. We asked 3 employees to please clean it up. (because the parents of the kid didn't bother to come back and clean up their mess). Nothing was done and we had to sit down and finish our food with chunky bile in sight & the smell of fresh vomit just a couple feet away. Someone else's Vomit soaked the carpet for at least half an hour while we were seated right next to it, and no one took care of it after being asked multiple times. I am extremely grossed out.

Yelp
I love Golden Wok's egg rolls so much. We have been dining here for all the ages they have been around before renovations and after. Anything we have ordered comes out hot and fresh. I ordered the Dim Sum this last time and get the Pork Bao buns, so yummy! I also order the shrimp wontons and noodles off the Dim Sum. I have tried the two different shrimp, Shrimp Sui Mai and both are delicious.

Yelp
I am what you call a "Recovering Californian" (moved to Texas from the San Francisco Bay Area December 2024). I had read about the few restaurants in San Antonio with Dim Sum, Golden Wok being one of them. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out they had Dim Sum Cart Service, just like in the San Francisco Bay Area. I ordered a few plates as they came by: chicken/pork/shrimp dumpling, Ha Gao, Siu Mai, Tripe, Lo Mein, ribs in black bean sauce, and Pork cheung fan. They were all good and as high quality as in San Francisco Bay Area. The only semi-low point was the cheung fan, the sauce needed a little more sugar and some more green onion in it. I sat at the Bar while waiting for the carts to come by. It is a good place to watch the cooks from and the occasional fire ball from the woks. Other than me, there were a few other Asians eating Dim Sum too. Authentic Dim Sum!!! Bartender tells me Cha Siu and Crispy Skin Roast Pork is also served on Sundays.
google avatar

Yelp
Had dinner here on a Friday night. Quick and professional service! The egg rolls and dumplings are delicious. I had combination fried rice and it was delicious and fresh. Shrimp was buttery and fresh! Love this place. Reasonable prices too!

Yelp
Best Chinese food in San Antonio. It looked amazing. The fish are so cute and the service is good. Servers are on it. good specials for lunch.

Yelp
The service is good and so is the atmosphere We prefer the Wurzbach location our server was very friendly and fast

Yelp
I have enjoyed Golden Wok's food for over 25 years, my favorite item is the Lemon Chicken. The lunch specials will leave you full! The service is fast, especially during lunch.

Yelp
I came here at 11am on a Sunday to meet up with friends and dim sum. The parking was pretty full and somewhat of a wait. Luckily one of us made it in time for a table. We tried a variety of dishes including har gow, sui mai, chicken feet, tripe, and snow pea leaves. Everything was good. And they come around with the cart often.
google avatar

Summer G.

Yelp
Very tasty food! We came on a Sunday right about when the opened. I recommend this because as we were leaving the waiting area was packed. They come around very frequently with the cart offerings. Our server was very kind, checked on us frequently, and overall provided a great experience for us. Can't wait to come back! Great for a family meal outing

R P.

Yelp
We came to the restaurant to order to-go dimsum. The Chinese lady in the take out counter is very unhelpful. We were told right away that dimsum orders will take more than an hour because they small cooker/steamer. Now I understand that but it's not my concer. I would have more than willing to wait but it seems that she doesn't want our business. We're from out of town and we always get dimsum from here. Very disappointing
google avatar

Yelp
The Szechuan shrimp and scallops dish was a let-down. Szechuan sauce is supposed to be spicy and packed with flavor from ginger, garlic, Szechuan pepper, and other seasonings. 1) The sauce although flavorful had a thin and watery consistency; 2) there was way too much sauce in relation to the other ingredients, it was like a stew with a smattering of ingredients, 3) sauce not spicy at all, definitely need to increase the Szechuan pepper, 4) scallops did not seem fresh; they were mushy, did not have a seared crispy crust and lacked flavor, 5) shrimps were meh, on the small side with tails on, and not crispy or seared, 6) serving was small, not enough scallops and veggies. The dish cost $27 with tax and included steamed white rice. I would not order this dish again. Ambiance and service were very good.

Yelp
Went to meet the family for Sunday lunch at Golden Wok and after about a 20 minute wait we got seated. After a quick look at the menu, I decided to go with the Sunday lunch special of orange chicken with steamed rice, egg, drop soup, cream cheese, puffs, and an egg roll. The egg drop soup came up first, it was nice and hot, but lacked any real seasoning, so it was rather bland. The eggroll and cream cheese puffs arrived next and both were a bit stale and oily, not crispy or fresh. The orange chicken came out next and was tasty with the chicken chunks nice and juicy. Adding a little bit of Sriracha to the orange glaze provided a nice contrast to the sweetness and definitely made this dish the star of the show. Overall, a solid meal at a good price. I'll definitely be back and hopefully the miscues today were just a one off.
google avatar

Danu M.

Yelp
We only waited five minutes before being seated. The food was fresh and very tasty. Although the fried wonton strips were super oily, the rest of the food was DELICIOUS. I was surprised when the server told us they only had unsweetened tea... but ok. Expect your clothes to have a heavy smell of food upon leaving the restaurant, because the kitchen is an open kitchen. Great service.
google avatar

Newman W.

Yelp
Dim sum is awesome at Golden Wok. The service was a little slow when I went there for late lunch. It's a little loud and I felt like I was at a dim sum restaurant in Hong Kong.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Best Asian food in the San Antonio Texas area. The regular Cantonese food is great. The best I have ever had plus their Dem Sun is great with a large selection of food and dessert.

Yelp
So far, this has been our go to Dimsum place. Golden Wok Wurzbach location. Went on a Sunday around 3 pm, the placed was packed but we were seated quickly (group of 4). Enjoyed the food, all the dimsum options, then of course sesame ball to finish it off! Service was quick, got everything right, no complaints!

Yelp
Now I see why Golden Wok has been open since 1983! My friends invited to me celebrate Lunar New Year with their family at Golden Wok. They always talk about how amazing their dim sum is, and all the different dishes you can find. I immediately said yes because I feel like for my first time having dim sum, I need to go with the pros. When I arrived, the parking was completely full and the line was out the door! They said Lunar New Year is their second busiest day of the year and that they usually sell out of baked goods in hours (which that day it only took 1 hour!). As soon as they opened, we immediately got seated and the staff was super nice. As soon as we got seated the carts full of small plates started to arrive. I let me friends to the ordering since I was pretty clueless. It was definitely an entire different experience, and loved every minute of it. All the dishes were absolutely delicious and there was not a single one I didn't like. Besides the dim sum, we also order the spicy ribs from their appetizer menu, which were amazing! Frankly I can't wait to come back again and try everything again. If you are looking for dim sum in San Antonio, you must definitely visit Golden Wok this weekend!
google avatar

Carmelita L.

Yelp
I go to Wurzbach branch.. usually come here on weekends where you can pick the dimsums you want from the cart with the servers that go around every table . . I particularly like the shrimp, pork shumai, squid ,tripe, ,shrimp ball. I ordered abalone flavored tofu . Pan fried sea food noodle. They have lunch specials m-f main course iced tea, 1 appetizer, ( crab Rangoon ,dumplings egg roll). I'll try it next time crowded during lunch time. Service was great, and fast.

Yelp
Good food. Quick service. Big menu. Good for groups. Not ideal for kids unless you know they like Chinese food.

Yelp
Golden Wok was a great experience! The service was exceptional and the food was so good. Everything is presented neatly and orderly. I really loved the entrance there is a Koi fish pond on both sides as you enter, like a mini bridge into the restaurant. This Asian restaurant has exquisite choices. I looked at the menu and they had the yummy basics like sesame chicken and kung pao chicken. There is choices of soups and specialty orders of beef, shrimp, chicken, pork and seafood. I ordered the Hong Kong Noodle Soup which comes with shrimp, chicken, barbecue pork, Chinese vegetables cooked in chicken broth with egg noodles. I was very grateful to have the evening to spend time in a relaxed restaurant on a random Tuesday. I'm sure this place is busy on the weekends. I drank a raspberry tea and was given one for the road. At the end of the meal you get your receipt and a fortune cookie. I really love that side of town it's always bustling with activity. On my way to errands I had a good meal and nice hospitality. It makes a world of difference when the meal is prepared exquisitely and the service is on pointe. Take your friends! Take your family! Take Your Beloved! You will be pleasantly surprised!
