The Best-Value Restaurants of Philly

"Goldie, the falafel spot from the team behind the award-winning Zahav, has a tight menu of sandwiches, fries, and some of the city’s coolest drinks: tehina shakes. The few flavors are delicious, dairy-free, and cost just $7. For under $20 you should be able to walk out of any of the mini chain’s four locations, including in Franklintown, Fishtown, University City, and Center City West. Another good Center City West option from the same owners is Dizengoff, where hummus is a full-on meal with meats and seasonal vegetables plus fresh-out-of-the-oven pita, Israeli pickles, and chopped salad." - Ernest Owens, Eater Staff

The University City Lunch Guide

"Goldie is a fast-casual falafel shop from the people behind Zahav. In addition to their main Rittenhouse location, they also have an outpost at Franklin’s Table. Their menu is pretty short, with sandwiches, salads, and fries, but that’s because they do one thing really well - falafel. It’s crispy and full of spices, and you can get it with a few different sauces, but the harissa is our favorite. Also, you should save room for a tehina milkshake - they substitute ice cream and milk with tehina and coconut whip, and it tastes better than most dairy milkshakes." - sydney mcelwee

The falafel sandwich was excellent. Got it with the harissa sauce....hot and crunchy veg. Shared hummus and pita....both REALLY good. I might have bought a few pita for a snack later 😀

The falafel was very good. The falafel balls themselves could’ve been a bit larger, which would’ve made them a little more tender inside. The Sriracha sauce was a good addition. It’s well worth adding the extra falafel to the sandwich as the amount is a bit sparse.

Good falafel. Nothing extraordinary. Had the falafel wrap. The tahini shake was different but a little too sweet for my taste.

We really enjoyed the tahini banana shake! The vibe was neat and the shake was great! The rest of the food looked good, but we did not try any this time. It’s located inside a food court that gets pretty busy.

I’m a fan of Goldie but I recently had two bad experiences at this location. Both related to the quality of the food. On the first occasion the fries were stale as if they have been sitting for few hours. The second occasion the side salad is obviously days old and soaking in water (see picture). Very disappointed.

This is probably my favorite falafel in the city. I love the Harissa sandwich, which has a nice little kick. As others have mentioned this sandwich is MESSY which is why I order it to go. Im not a huge fan of looking like a feral animal in public. If you do eat in, maybe go with the salad or be prepared to get napkins on napkins. Their vegan milkshake is easily my favorite, and I know some other places cough hip city veg cough who could learn a thing or two.

falafel salad was unique and I’m glad I tried it. I wish there was more falafel and there wasn’t enough for how much leaves and salad there was. Sauce is yummy. Quite pricey for vegetarian meal

This was my favorite place on campus but recently they have made some changes that have declined the quality of their food and shakes. They changed their shake size from 12 ounces to about 10 ounces. They claimed it to be 12 but we measured it at home (we are scientists) and it's about 1 1/2 ounce less than it used to be. Also had the falafel balls and they are a yellow color now instead of green (not sure what changed) and have a weird after taste. For how expensive it is, you would expect better quality like it used to be. So sad I have to find a new favorite place on campus :(
