"As locals lament Good Luck Bar’s closure on May 4, a group of activists appeared before the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council on Tuesday in an attempt to preserve what’s left of the neighborhood. This group of Los Feliz residents started a Change.org petition that’s gathered nearly 3,500 signatures to save the beloved 25-year-old dive bar. The efforts weren’t without results, as the council passed a unanimous resolution supporting Good Luck Bar, while condemning Conroy Commercial Real Estate. The development company plans to replace the building with a 17-room boutique hotel. While the resolution is largely symbolic, it might be too late to keep the doors open, but locals hope the bar can be part of the new project. According to activist EV Boyle, this was the first time Good Luck management and Conroy communicated directly since 2017." - Mona Holmes

"Good Luck Bar in Los Feliz will cease its 25-year-old run on Hillhurst on May 4. After Eater first ran the story on April 10, there’s been a lot more intel coming out on the closure. Conroy Commercial Real Estate bought the building in 2012, and made plans to replace the property with a 17-room boutique hotel started in 2014. Eater spoke with Good Luck Bar’s general manager David Granger, who shared how owner Sean MacPherson negotiated a new lease in 2014. This included a rent increase, with renovations coming out of MacPherson’s pocket. As the years went on, Conroy stopped communicating in 2017 while other tenants in the building vacated the property. Those spaces remained vacant." - Mona Holmes

"Good Luck Bar, inspired by Chinatown's Yee Mee Loo Bar, is a 25-year-old dive bar known for its Chinese luck theme. It features wooden dragons, bright red Chinese lanterns, dark red walls, and a bar shaped like a Buddhist temple. Despite its stereotypical motifs, it's popular for its Tiki-esque cocktails and lively atmosphere. The bar is closing to make way for new development, marking a nostalgic loss for the Los Feliz neighborhood." - Mona Holmes

So sad this place is closing on may 5th(?). I went here after a movie to check it out and the place was hoppin on a Tuesday night. We got a blended drink that was sweet and fun. Lot of ice in there though, but the decor and unique vibe made this place worth a quick little post dinner drink. Staff was nice, the drinks are very sweet and my hands were sticky after I put my glass down. Will be sad to see this place go.

Om May 4th, 2019 this Hollywood mainstay will shutter its doors forever. Go while you still can, enjoy the kitschy decor, the cocktails, the eclectic crowd and the fun bartenders.

I absolutely love this place. As I gay man I feel really welcomed ( as it should) despite it is not a gay bar. Drinks are reasonably priced and the crew is quite wondeful. Perfect bar to stop after the movies ( Vista theater right around the corner)

Very chill but can get very crowded on the weekends. That being said, the cocktails are reasonably priced for how thought out and tasty they are. I ordered the Beijing Swing (gin drink) and it was absolutely delicious and like $10. I appreciated that the women bar tenders were taking their time and making the cocktails with good quality even though it was popping and they were super busy. Will return for sure 🍸

What a beautiful space. The first thing to catch my eye was that the Good Luck Bar still has an authentic neon light hanging outside their door, which would otherwise be relatively easy to miss, and I thought it was a nice touch in a city where so many spaces are taking less expensive shortcuts. Once I got inside I was blown away by the warmth and ambiance of the space! It's just so vibrant, with plenty of seating all around. I grabbed a seat at the bar and saw a pretty extensive specialty drink menu, so once I saw that combined with the decor I expected my drinks to be on the more expensive side. Pleasantly surprised again! I ordered my usual gin and tonics and if I remember correctly they were $7 each, which is definitely on the low end for LA. At most they were $8 and they tasted wonderful! I visited on a Wednesday night and it honestly never got too crazy (although it did get lively enough), and I enjoyed myself immensely. Would recommend this bar to both locals and anyone visiting LA!

Fun little bar. It's a little hard to see from the outside. It's got a tight feel to the bar area. But has a nice lounge type area in the back. The drink prices were very reasonable and the bartenders were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back for a drink or two after work

Dark and Red, this hole in the wall has a very sexy element to it. Excellent drinks, very delicious (esp the iced-blended alcoholic beverages which have an exotic element to them). Very Romantic. I like sitting at or near the bar, but there is a spacious lounge in the back that everyone likes.

Don't let the photos fool you, this place is tiny. And you're likely going to find it packed up full of people. Yes, the decor is cozy and nice with the red lanterns and the Chinese ceilings, but the service each time I come here is terrible, the beers are expensive, and there's never seating. If you're bar hopping and want to explore a new bar, it's definitely worth a try. But make sure you come early and expect to be awkwardly standing against some wall drinking your beer.
