TAKAYAMA

"Inside a clean, white-themed space, chef Tadashi Takayama uses the entire dining experience as his canvas on which to paint a picture with colourful ingredients. He uses the world's top three delicacies, caviar, foie gras and truffles, to put a modern touch on carpaccio, pizza and pasta. The dishes are light and delicate, born of his own inspiration." - Michelin Inspector

The hotel is a 10 min taxi ride from Kyoto Station and a 5 min walk from the local train station and a 10 min walk from the famous shopping streets, so pretty amazing location, with shops and restaurants all within walking distance. Staff were nice and friendly and we got a room at the top floor with its own balcony facing in. The room was nice, large and clean, as was the washroom. The only downside was that the toilet was a closed room into the washroom, and you could not lock the washroom door, which is a little weird. The rain shower did not work properly, but the other shower worked well. And as is normal in Japan, the toilet came with its bidet, which was just really cool!! WIFI worked without a hitch. Breakfast was included and had a decent spread but started late (for Japan) at 7am which meant you were hurrying up to get to your morning tour. That was a downside. They did arrange for a taxi to get to our tour, which was really nice. Stay was expensive, but given the amenities and location, quite good value for money!!

Whereas the building architecture is beautiful and the rooms are extremely spacious, the service leaves much to be desired. Some staff are nice but many are out right authoritarian and rude. I don’t blame them. This review is as much addressed to future customers as it is to management who should work on training staff to be up to the standards of the level of prices they charge their customers and the expectations of world-traveling guests. ||||- It took us thirty minutes to check in. There was no line but the person at the counter, though extremely nice, just took that long. We thus missed being able to shower before our restaurant reservations. ||- For breakfast, my husband handed the hostess our four prepaid breakfast vouchers. She misplaced one and proceeded to follow me into the breakfast area harassing me to register and pay more. She spoke no English so I finally found one of the vouchers under her compter where she had misplaced it. At 10:02 she followed my son who was serving himself more pancakes saying he could no longer do so because breakfast finished at 10:00am. She felt more like an incompetent police officer than somebody in the hospitality sector. ||- The reception was equally disappointing. The concierge announced he would not help me with a restaurant reservation adjustment because I had reserved with the help of our previous hotel.||He did end up helping me but only after back and forth banter. ||- It took me fifteen minutes to ask for an additional key so I could go up to my kids’ bedroom because the staff said I would need to bring down all keys as they would deactivate. They did not. ||- The lighting system in the room is controlled via the iPad and extremely confusing and impractical. ||- The rooms were not noise proofed and we could hear the cars, intersection bells for the blind and people on the streets talking. ||- The room service menu is too limited and not very good. ||+ Spacious rooms, soft sheets and pillows. Overall very clean. ||+ The breakfast buffet was delicious.

We stayed at Good Nature Hotel Kyoto late September, and it was truly one of the most memorable hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Room is quite large given average small space in Japan. Drinks in minibar are all specially provided and refreshing. Locaiton is perfect without doubt - right next to Takashimaya. We’d like to give special thanks to Supervisor Lee De-Xuan, who went above and beyond when we needed help. During our stay, we faced an unexpected medical issue, and Lee was incredibly kind and proactive — he noticed our situation, offered help immediately, and carefully assisted us through every step, from finding information to arranging a hospital appointment. As foreign travelers, we know how difficult that can be in Japan, yet Lee handled everything with such professionalism, empathy, and patience. His genuine care and customer-first attitude perfectly represent the spirit of Good Nature Hotel. Thanks to him, a stressful situation turned into a warm memory we’ll never forget. Highly recommend this hotel — not only for its beautiful rooms and great location, but especially for its outstanding staff like Lee, who truly make guests feel cared for.

A hotel in an excellent location, close to various transport networks to get around Kyoto. Rooms themselves are spacious and well laid out, although the circular layout can mean quite a long walk to your room if on the opposite side to the elevators. Breakfast has a good array of western and Japanese items, although it can get a bit busy so going early is recommended. I experienced my half-finished drink + food being removed twice before I'd finished (despite having a "table in use" card down) as I went to get refills etc, which was a little annoying. There are unfortunately no self-service laundry facilities available (except very expensive hotel-provided laundry, 500 yen for a pair of socks!), an inconvenience during longer stays. The TV has internet, Netflix, Prime etc, and air con is controlled via a tablet. Overall the location makes this a good hotel, with floors dedicated to an expensive organic / natural food store, massages, etc.

The Good Nature Hotel was such a wonderful surprise — our room was huge, especially compared to what we’d read about hotel sizes in Japan. The location couldn’t have been better, just steps away from endless dining and shopping options. We booked through Priceline and scored an incredible rate for a 3-night stay, which made it an even better find. We opted out of the breakfast since there are so many great local spots nearby (and Kyoto Coffee right in front of the hotel is a must!). Couldn’t recommend it more for anyone visiting Kyoto.

The Good Nature Hotel Kyoto exceeded all expectations from the very beginning. The location is fantastic, right inside a stylish shopping complex with a great atmosphere, and just steps away from several bus, subway, and train stations, making it incredibly easy to explore the city.||The breakfast was excellent — delicious, varied, and beautifully presented with a touch of elegance that perfectly matches the hotel’s refined style.||The staff were truly outstanding — attentive, kind, and always willing to help with anything we needed, making us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay.||The decor deserves a special mention as well: everything is designed with great taste and sophistication, creating a warm yet elegant atmosphere.||And the cherry on top — we were surprised with a complimentary upgrade to an incredible suite, spacious, beautifully decorated, and absolutely comfortable. It was the perfect finishing touch to an already wonderful stay.||In short, the Good Nature Hotel Kyoto is an elegant, comfortable, and flawlessly run hotel, ideal for anyone looking to experience the best of Kyoto. Without a doubt, we would love to return!

This was a nice, comfortable base for exploring Kyoto. The Good Nature building is easy to find but be sure to enter through the hotel entrance, not the market/cafe. Take the elevator up to the front desk to check in or leave your bags. There are several restaurants and shops in the building if you need to kill time.||The room itself was spacious and attractive. The staff ask that you not wear your shoes in the rooms. The bed was huge which seems to be a rarity in Japanese hotels. ||The lights and temperature are controlled by a tablet which seemed a bit silly. But maybe it is a more convenient way to navigate thermostat language barriers?||The bathroom set up was a little odd with the sink in the actual sleeping space. There were separate closets for the toilet and shower/tub. ||There was also a welcone treat and tea provided in the rooms. Cups, plates, silverware, and water bottles were all available in the room if you plan to dine in. Each floor had both an ice machine and water dispenser. The hotel also has a laundry service.

Rooms cannot have choice of double or queen/king beds so we got put in a doubles room with this trip being our honeymoon. Staff at hotel was apologetic but did nothing to fix the issue. No upgrades, no moving us to another room a different day. Staff then called after a few hours to offer free minibar service, which we refused as wife doesn’t drink. Service was not to standard. Rooms have a sink in bathroom and terrible lighting so it’s hard to do makeup, all for the aesthetics. Poor design choice. Our room also has a window with large blind that cannot be moved so we cannot look out of it. Laundry service is very expensive (500 yen for underwear) Eco friendly tag seems to be just for show. They tell you they don’t give you free one time use items (razor, toothbrush etc) to be eco friendly (they ask for payment of those), and then at breakfast there are many single packaged items in plastic (towels, jams, etc)
