Good Time Charley's - Review - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Charley’s is part restaurant, part bar, and all around see-and-be-seen spot on the corner of South University and East University. Snag a coveted table on the patio when it’s nice out, load up on drinks, and dip whatever you’re eating in their ranch. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Food was pretty good! Drinks were weak and we got charged full price for our long islands even though the sign said the discount started after 8 and we sat down at 830. I don't think I'll return here.

After a Michigan Baseball game, I went to Good Time Charley's for take out and it was great! I used to come here all the time when I was a student back in the day. My food was fresh and delicious! It was a very nice day so I went down to Gallup Park to eat. Going to Good Time Charley's was a nice walk down memory lane. Many thanks to all and I will be back soon!

Visited here on a Monday night when most bars are closed. Wasn't busy which suited us fine, loads of ales and cocktails available, didn't eat there, but the food looked like great.

We went here to watch the U of M MSU football game. The atmosphere was great and the nachos were good. The fishbowl was decent. It was fairly priced for the size but not as strong as I was hoping for. Additionally, I do not recommend the brownie Ice cream sunday (pictured below).

Stopped in here for a quick bite kinda late most places were closed. Walked in got my hand stamped past that no one wanted to talk to we ended up asking the bar tender and it was seat yourself. Sat down it took a while to get some service but once we did the bar tender was also our waitress. Ended up a decent experience. The stix were absolutely delicious! The fishbowl was so massive we couldn’t finish it.

Great drinks! Known for their Long Island Iced Tea fish bowls...had the purple rain plus the Lynchburg Lemonade. Food-wise Count Twists are a must! Pictured here are also the chicken tenders and a spinach and artichoke dip. Really you can't go wrong with the food on the menu :)

Google
Pulled up to good time Charley's for happy hour and a bite to eat. Have not been here since I was a grad student. But the food and drinks are still well worth it. Especially those Stix yummy!

Yelp
My best friend and I come here 3+ times a week. Our favorites are mug club mondays, bingo tuesdays, and trivia wednesdays. The chicken tenders have no right to be so good. And it's so exciting when they rotate the seasonal beer. LOVE CHARLEYS!

Yelp
Pretty chill during the day which is when I stopped in, around 4pm during their happy hour. During HH, all drinks and appetizers (including the breadsticks) are 50% off. I ordered a Tokyo iced tea fishbowl (normally $17, but half off) expecting it to be pretty watered down and holy shit, it packed a PUNCH. Either that or I just can't drink anymore lol. Because it sent me into another dimension meanwhile I saw most people in the restaurant with them. The drink was surprisingly tasty and not too too sweet. It was also neon green (photo for evidence) and I woke up today feeling like I had been punched in the head repeatedly lol. But I guess that's part of the experience. Service was attentive but not hovery. I won't get into the details for the server's sake but he was very accommodating about an issue I had. On the check the suggested tip percentages are based on the non-HH price, just something to be aware of. I ended up splitting the difference and tipping like 18% of the full price (so like 30% on the HH price. During burger Thursdays, a burger with fries and a coke is $5.99, which sounds like a great deal before you realize ANY toppings (including lettuce tomato etc) are add ons. I did some quick math and figured the burger I would want would have been closer to $10, which is still a good deal ofc but not quite the recession buster it sounds like. Overall would return!

Yelp
Love this bar--it's one of my favorites! Great atmosphere and always a fun time, especially on trivia night. However, I do think they need to be more transparent about their billing practices. If you're in a group they automatically add a 20% gratuity to the bill, but the servers don't mention it upfront. This led to everyone in the group tipping on top of that 20% on there bill, which feels a bit sneaky. Just something to keep in mind if you're going with a larger group!

Yelp
This is my second time at this bar, this time i sat at the bar and Genevia the bartender is AMAZING!! She gave me phenomenal service! she just stated that she only works game days and she's the best. She conversed with me and my friends and made us the goal shooters! I also met the GM and he was awesome! I made a review here before and I had awful service today. made it a lot better. with Steve and Genevia! was impressed with the better service i got at the bar vs the booth service. I will be coming back again!

Yelp
A fun college bar and restaurant. During the day it's got some pretty solid food and then at night the drinks are great (B)

Yelp
This was the perfect place for my daughter and I to go to celebrate a Rose Bowl victory! It was New Years Day ( & a Monday!) So not a lot of options that were open. But Our TEAM won and we wanted to RAGE!!! And thankfully Good Time Charleys was there for us!!!!!! ALSO- With all the TV's, we were able to scout our next opponent!

Yelp
Sticky nasty college bar. Burgers were greasy as all h€ll and the table/booth hadn't been cleaned since OSU had a good football team.

Yelp
I've been going to Charleys since 2018 and overall, I'd give it a 4/5 star. I've had great times with friends here and enjoyed the food and occasionally the drinks. They have some good bar food here - prior to the pandemic, they used to have this "Spinach Artichoke" appetizer that was absolutely fantastic. It came with BREAD (not chips) with a solid dip that I still remember to this day even though it's been almost two years since I've had it. The sweet potato fries here is always a classic, too. And of course, the "Pepperoni Styx" - who could forget? The "Love Spell" fishbowl is one of our go-to's - probably my favorite fishbowl out of all of them, and the "Lemon Drop" shooter is popular. Sadly, my stomach never sits well when I drink at Charleys, so it's been awhile since I had the fishbowls and shooters here. However, I would give it a 3/5 for the experience I had the past Monday night. My friends and I got the "Nachos" appetizer ($12.50), which is topped with lots of toppings like black beans, queso, lots of cheeeeeeeese, and other goodies. We were excited to dig in since our server told us it's pretty popular. Sadly, it seems like they made this appetizer awhile ago because it definitely didn't taste fresh. Chips were pretty stale and overall, the toppings were cold and crusty. Overall, it was still pretty tasty despite the flaws. We were very sad that the "Spinach Artichoke" app was no longer around. My friends ordered an "Ecto Cooler" and "Love Spell" fishbowl. I didn't drink any of it, but it seemed like they all enjoyed it - the drinks were gone pretty quickly. Overall, still a good time despite the food being pretty average. It's a popular bar for undergrads and grad students to hang out at, as I had frequent this location during my time at Michigan. Definitely the "go-to" campus bar among my friend circles!

Yelp
I'm embarrassed to admit that this is my first time here. This place is like a monument for U of M students. One of my grad school friends owned this place, and still I never visited! I arrived here on a cool weekday around 5 pm. We were the only patrons in the dining area and were only there for drinks. Merlot and pineapple juice were great. The main draw was the location, which is in the center of South University, great for people watching. There is a lot of pleasant seating outdoors as well, with potted flowers and heaters . I will return to try the bar food, and enjoy the outdoor view.

Yelp
This a popular bar for both undergrads and grad students at Michigan. I've been here a couple times previously. The food is alright and the drinks are decent. They usually have good deals throughout the week. This time I went on a Thursday and got their burger special ($5.99 but costs more for cheese. sauce, toppings, etc.) with bbq sauce, onions, and pickles which came out to $8. The burger was very average, not quite sure if it was worth the money. The bun seemed slightly stale and the meat was lacklustre. The onions, pickles, and bbq sauce were alright, nothing special. The burger is 6 oz, but used to be 8 oz. A 1/2 lb of fries is also included which I subbed out for waffle fries for a dollar more. They tasted fine, nothing special. There's decent seasoning on them. Several people in my group also got drinks. I got a 64 oz (fishbowl) cocktail called the Purple People Eater. I think the price was around $18 which is definitely a pretty good deal for someone used to NYC prices. It tasted like those bright colored freeze pops. I probably wouldn't get it again, but it didn't taste terrible.
google avatar

Jessica Z.

Yelp
It seemed to be pretty busy, so service was slow, but I appreciated them nonetheless. We got drinks, and they tasted pretty good, but the food was ok. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and there wasn't a lot of the buffalo flavor but instead there was way too much tomato that overwhelmed all of the other flavors. Overall, the atmosphere was good and we had a great time.

Jane J.

Yelp
The staff gets treated poorly. I know a server that had to give up most of her tips, that's just how they do it there, so make sure to tip over 20%. They work hard and put up with a lot of crap.

Yelp
After realizing that I have submitted a surprising number of Good Time Charley's food photos, I decided that it was time to put fingers to keyboard and tell you about this place where I have apparently eaten my way through much of the menu! Good Time Charley's is an Ann Arbor staple in the West U area, drawing large groups of college kids and those hoping to re-live their college days. Students are drawn for the 64 oz fishbowls and long list of shots, but in my opinion, it is the food that keeps bringing guests back. The menu offers lots of burgers and sandwiches, and of course, the famous and sinfully delicious Styx, which are essentially large pizza rolls served with house made sauces. The finishes on dishes (rosemary fries, for example) speaks to the attention to detail in a place where you might not expect it, and everything I have tried has been delicious! I already mentioned the food as a reason to return, but the service has always been fast and friendly. Finally, the music is always solid and there are a lot of televisions to watch whatever sports game might be on that evening.

Yelp
A great place on campus to grab food and drinks with your friends and watch a game. My friend and I came here for a simple dinner. She got the pulled pork sandwich and I got the chicken tenders. I also got the "Love Spell." The food was tasty and the drink was really good, although I felt as though it didn't have much alcohol in it. Pros: - Great location on campus - Pretty good "bar" food - Huge drink menu - Great spot to watch a game - Our server, although clearly busy, was nice and tried to check up on us as much as possible Cons: - Wait can be a little long, especially when it gets busy or late at night - A little bit pricer than I would hope bar food would be Overall: - Good Time Charleys is a quintessential college bar that is worth visiting at least once

Yelp
Place: This place is so nice and welcoming. It is a sit down but mainly known for their drinks and trivia/karaoke. Service: The service is really nice as you sit down wherever you want and the servers come to you. You have to be lucky to get good seating in my opinion. Food/price: The food is overall good and their is a long list of drink menus. They are popular for their huge fishbowls that should be shared with 4+ people in my opinion.... The price is a higher up but again it is for the mems Audience: I believe before 8 anyone is allowed but after they do card 21+ because it is shifted to more of a bar setting. It is a hot spot for college students. Recommend/tips? I think they are closing so try to enjoy the experience at Charley's while you can. TIPS- they have free birthday shots~

Yelp
manager on a power trip. open booths. many. sat us at a table instead. Wouldn't move us. Waitress also confused. bizarre. There's no back story here. Put our name in, drank at the bar while we waited. Paid the bar tab. Seated. Asked to move and he got hostile. Booths remained empty throughout the meal for over an hour. Wow. Won't be coming back.

Yelp
A long time favorite hangout for college students and visitors to campus alike. This place is a staple and beacon for the university. Great atmosphere, great location and cheap drinks. What more could a young college kid barely old enough to drink want? Atmosphere/Appearance: Set on the corner of South University and Church street is this place, a mecca for hanging out. Lovely fenced in outdoor seating and music blaring with a live DJ on some nights, trivia on others. The bar is kinda the central focus here. Everything happens there right?! I mean, of course there's a kitchen kinda hidden away, but people come here for the drinks. Don't expect Michelin 3-Star dining or amenities here, it's a college bar. Lol. It's a great time though. Plenty of seating in the 3 sections of the restaurant and big glass windows so you can make fun of the people waiting in line to get in or to people watch those walking around outside. Service: I mean... come during lunch or an early dinner when it isn't chaotic inside, service is going to be pretty good. Come at 10:00pm or later on the weekend and good luck getting service at all. You're better off going to the bar, getting your drinks then bringing them back to your table (if you can find one). The bartenders are usually pretty fun though. Food: I've had their wings which are pretty good. Naturally I've had a whole slew of the drinks from their menu. They're all very good. They're known for their "Fishbowl" drinks which are basically 64 ounces of different versions of Long Island Iced Teas. There's at least 10 different kinds. I can't go over every single one of them, but there's something to fit everyone's taste buds. Value: Very good. Fish bowls are are about $12.00-$17.00 depending on the quality of liquor you want. There are always drink specials going on and every day of the week there's a different food special. You won't be disappointed at the end of the night with the amount of money you've spent. In conclusion this place is awesome. It's basically a landmark here in downtown Ann Arbor. Gotta give this place a try if you're in the area and up for some good, cheap drinks!

Yelp
Biggest menu of shooters I have ever seen! Great meet up place. Definitely should be included on campus area or A2 pub crawl list. Sit up front and you have a street view.

Mason M.

Yelp
Fish bowl drinks are great, BUT... the servers were not very kind to me and my friends. They had an attitude with everything we asked. The waitress took a very long time to give us our next round of drinks and our bill afterwards. The servers became irritated with us when we went up to the bar to pay for our bill when we were eating outside. Simple tasks to serve and please the guests were looked at as annoying and difficult. Great drinks, food, and vibes, however the servers were not kind.

Yelp
Famous fishbowls! Fishbowls are basically giant mason jars of mixed drinks that will definitely get you feeling some type of way if you finish a whole one by yourself. There are a lot of different types of fishbowls but my favorite one is the darkness because it tastes really sweet (the alcohol in it will sneak up on you because you cannot taste the liquor in it at all). It's made with citrus vodka, peach schnapps, strawberry liqueur, sour and sprite. Fishbowls aside, Good Time Charley's also boasts an impressive selection of shots. They are all printed on the backside of the drinks menu and it's said to be the largest variety in Michigan. I've also had the food here. Last time I ordered the Spinach Artichoke Dip (served with Parmesan flatbread) and a full order of Styx Mix, which are breadsticks stuffed with various cheeses and pepperoni. The Styx Mix may not seem like much but, trust me, they will fill you and a friend up. The carby deliciousness of the bread and the stretchiness of the mozzarella is amazing. I also liked the spinach dip but I wish that the Parmesan flatbread was less dry/hard. The service is also pretty great - I have no complaints about it. It wasn't slow for me. I would recommend looking into their nightly events before you get here with a group of friends. I came on a Sunday and it was karaoke night. The restaurant was mostly empty on our side and we weren't expecting to listen to loud karaoke the entire time we were there.

Yelp
Been to Good Time Charley's a couple times now, for lunch during the Ann Arbor Art Fair, and for drinks during a pub crawl. Good Time Charley's is known for their infamous colossal fruity fish bowl drinks. They are huge at 64 oz served in a giant mason jar and have over 20 different varieties of fishbowls to choose from. You have the option of ordering any cocktail as a 22 oz glass for $8.75 or a 64 oz fishbowl for $16.75 but the fishbowl is definitely worth the price because you will be sipping it all night. The fishbowls could be split but we usually end up each ordering our own. Some varieties of fishbowls are much more potent than others. Our bartender told us the blue varieties seemed to be heavier on the booze with a higher alcohol content. The Blue Balls, and Blue Baracuda are some of the more potent fishbowls. Our bartender was very friendly and helpful and offered recommendations. He suggested the Fishbowl fishbowl as his favorite which was raspberry vodka, Island Blue pucker, lemonade, and sprite. It wasn't overly sweet and tasted like a blue raspberry sweet tart. My friend ordered it and I had a sip and it was very good. I ordered the Pink Cadillac fishbowl which was dragon berry rum, pinnacle blueberry, strawberry pucker, pineapple juice and sprite. They were unfortunately out of pinnacle blueberry but the bartender subbed it for Stoli blueberry for no extra charge which was very nice. The Pink Cadillac was good but probably a little too sweet for such a large drink. The Pink Cadillac was also probably less potent than the fishbowl I had the last time I stopped in. Another friend got The Darkness which was lemon vodka, peach schnapps, strawberry liquor sour and sprite, also on the sweeter side. I think the other time I came here, I had either the Shady Lady or Liquid Lucy and they were good too. The fishbowls basically taste like Kool-Aid and you don't even notice you are drinking alcohol until you are halfway through them, so they definitely sneak up on you, lol. Dangerous yet delicious. Good Time Charley's also offers boozy iced teas, beer and premium fishbowls which cost a bit more than the traditional fishbowls. We most recently came on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday. We had 10 of us and they were busy but easily accommodated our large group. The host was very nice and suggested us taking a seat at a large wrap-around booth by the bar. Service was slow initially and it took awhile to get waited on at first so a couple of us ordered at the bar but once the sever did come over, she was great and brought out pitchers of water and was attentive, friendly, and very helpful. They have a ton of shot and shooter varieties at Good Time Charley's and for my friend's birthday they brought out a shot topped with whipped cream and a candle and the whole bar sang happy birthday to her. Atmosphere is fun here with a pub-feel, low light, and tap handles around the ceiling and fun music playing. Their food is also very good and they offer traditional pub fare. When I came for lunch during the Ann Arbor Art Fair, I had the California burger which came with melted swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado on a brioche bun. The burger was very juicy and delicious. The burger came with fries and I upgraded to sweet potato fries which were very good. The burger and fries were $11.99 and most menu items are affordable at around $11-$12. They also offer tacos, wraps, sandwiches, quesadillas, salads, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, nachos, wings, and more. Always have fun here! Great atmosphere, excellent friendly service, delicious food and drinks. One word...fishbowls! They are famous for them! If you stop in for no other reason, the fishbowl is a must!

Yelp
Watch out for the 4.5% "transaction fee" to "offset rising costs." That coupled with poor service put a huge damper on a former casual fav.

Yelp
So this was my first time at Good Time Charleys. My friends and I wanted to unwind after a long day of classes. We decided to come here for Happy Hour and it was perfect! If you're ever in the mood for great food and drinks then this is the place for you!

Yelp
As a non-local, I am huge fan of Good Time Charleys. The people, the service, the food, the drinks - I'm about it. Overall great vibes and solid Ann Arbor bar.

Yelp
Charley's is the quintessential college bar, perfect for watching a game and catching up with friends. During the warmer months, sitting on the patio is great. Food: Greasy, bar food. Which is exactly what you want when you're watching a game or grabbing a drink late night with friends! Good variety of appetizers to share with friends. Drinks: Decent draft beer list. I'm personally happy that they always have Short's Soft Parade. I also really enjoy the fishbowls (although you definitely have to be in the mood for them--they're overwhelmingly sweet). My personal favorite is the Raspberry Delight which is probably the least sweet one I've tried and it's strong!! Other good ones: Mad Tea Party and Ms. Parker. Steer clear of the Blue Barracuda. Service: Usually pretty meh. I've had to flag down a waiter many times here to get drinks or the check. But what can you expect? Definitely a college classic!

Yelp
Charley's is the best bar in Ann Arbor, don't @ me!!!!! Wednesday trivia is bomb, Brad the manager rocks, fishbowls are massive and only $14, and the food is solid (pretzel sticks with queso, buffalo chicken tenders, and nachos to be specific). I'm a die hard Charley's fan and I don't even go to school in Ann Arbor anymore. What? That's not pathetic! Can't wait to come back soon!!

Yelp
Came with colleagues for a drink after a long day at a conference. We found street parking nearby pretty easily (at 9pm - free) and were able to snag an outdoor table with no wait (on a Thurs night). We had some beers and enjoyed seeing the nightlife all around us. We didn't try any of the food or the famous drink bowls or shooters - maybe next time. We stayed until midnight and even though we didn't eat or order a ton, there was no pressure to give up our table. Definitely a laid back spot to sit and enjoy a beer.
google avatar

Josh A.

Yelp
Good Time Charleys was excellent to us. It was my first time going for trivia and the staff was super friendly. We had a reservation but one of the hosts helped us to be able to move our table so we could sit near other friends, which was so helpful and kind of him. The drinks were good size for the price you pay, and I definitely will return for future trivia nights

Maya S.

Yelp
The waitresses are rude and are so entitled I don't know why because it's not like they own the place it was so annoying

Yelp
Good Time Charley's is my favorite college bar in Ann Arbor for a couple very important reasons. First, they have a good-sized patio which is great for once every blue moon when the weather is actually nice in Michigan. But, most importantly, even though there is often a bit of a wait to get in and it can get packed, it's all worth it because of those fishbowls. For those of you unfamiliar with this incredible invention, a fishbowl is a cocktail served in a huge fishbowl. In fact, it's so large that you're supposed to share it with someone else. They have a selection of about 10 of them but we went with the Purple Rain. Fitting with Prince's recent passing. Even though the fishbowls taste like juice, they pack quite the punch. You'll be feeling nice after you're done with one these bad boys. Charley's doesn't have a DJ but they play music over the loudspeakers. Not loud enough so you can't hear who you're with but loud enough so you can feel the music. I'm such a big fan I bought a t-shirt so I can rep Charley's in Texas.

Yelp
Tried to go upstairs to Cantina, but they were closed, so ended up at GTC. The smell when you first walk in is FOUL and almost made me turn around and leave. Sat at the bar and I was hardly acknowledged (it was early and not busy at all, the staff were taking shots and trying new beer). Definitely a place for 21 year olds planning on making poor decisions, and not 30+ year olds in the middle of the day.

Jacob D.

Yelp
Music oddly cuts off making you acutely aware of all conversations going on in the vicinity. My friend holds their cider strangely. They brought us 8/8 orders correctly. I'll be back
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
I've liked this place for years. Its consistently, consistent. There has to be something to be said about that. Just has to. The food is really good. Portions are big. The drinks are big, from the fishbowls to the beers, they are all gigantic!! The space itself it actually larger than most of the other options too. They do things and they do them big and that is ok wtih me. Love it. Game days are mobbed. Early evenings, crazy! Sunday...perfect.
google avatar

Austin T.

Yelp
Food and drink wise, I'd give this place a 3, maybe 3.5. However, the service was really bad today. We came in on a gameday, which I understand being a little behind, but it took us an hour to get our food and another 15 minutes to get our check. Game days happen weekly here in the fall, so I really can't imagine why they haven't been able to figure out how to keep up the service on those days. The prices for food are actually really reasonable. Burgers and sandwiches are all right around or below $10. I ordered the South U Jay Walker burger, which comes with bacon, an egg, lettuce and two types of cheese. It was pretty solid, though kind of small. The bun was also really oily, which I didn't really like. The burger was cooked well, but I don't think it really had that much flavor. Fries were also just really average. I also ordered a 22 oz glass of the Pink Cadillac. I enjoyed it, as it wasn't too sweet. $8.25 is kind of a lot to pay for a drink, but the 22 oz is a pretty decent size, so I'd say the price for a drink is respectable. Again, the service was really what ruined my experience. It was busy, but I can only imagine it's like this every weekend, being that this is very much so a college bar. The restaurant is kind of dirty, which is fine, but everything just comes out so slowly. Our waitress was even slow picking up her money! In general, this is a fun environment to hangout with your buddies and enjoy a few drinks (maybe share a fishbowl!). However, if you're trying to get in and out for a meal/drink, don't do it on the weekends.

Yelp
Two words: Giant Fishbowls. You heard me correctly. Every single drink on their menu (and there are a ridiculous amount of 'em) can be made into a 64 oz. drink, which comes in a huge glass jar complete with large straws for you to share with friends. No wonder this place is a hit among college students, they know the right way to give them what they want, and that's vast and copious amounts of alcohol. What pairs better with alcohol than bar food? Good Time Charley's serves up some decent unhealthy eats for those days you just need to kick back a few (or 4). My friend and I shared the - Purple Rain ($12 to make it into a drink of monstrous proportions): huge, tastes like a blue Jolly Rancher, and very, VERY strong--lightweights beware - Twists & Styx ($11): we had the mix of pepperoni styx and regular twists with marinara and the "Twist" sauce--get this! It's their homemade salsa mixed with a ranch. Odd-sounding but actually pretty good. Come here to drink, sit outside on the warmer days, and contemplate life over a drink that's bigger than your head.

Yelp
Great place downtown for good drinks and food. The waitstaff is amazing and prompt, and are extremely welcoming. They also have karaoke!

Yelp
I probably ordered the wrong drink to get at Charley's. I ordered a marg, which I should have known better to get margaritas north of my home state Texas border. I was there to celebrate a rewarding, yet exhausting school presentation, so I was surprised that none of the alcohol in the marg affected me. It was a little too sweet to be called an alcoholic drink, much less a margarita. However, I did appreciate the typical college bar environment. So I would go back if my classmates wanted to and I'll make sure to try one of their more signature drinks.

Yelp
Charley's is your quintessential college bar -- that being said, for those looking for a good eat in Ann Arbor, Charley's has some solid All-American food offerings as well. When you walk in you immediately get hit with a "college bar" vibe with a bit of a grungy vibe, but still a solid atmosphere -- about par for the course for Ann Arbor college bars. Their food can also be a bit pricey, but if you go on Thursday nights they have a $5 burger and fries special that's pretty worth it. Service can be hit or miss depending on when you go and how busy Charley's is, with peak hours during games or weekend nights. All in all, the food is decent but pricey, service can be hit or miss, and you get exactly what you'd expect from a college town bar on the corner of campus.

Yelp
Drinks were not outstanding by any means and I felt like it was a standard college bar, even the fish bowls and 64oz just seemed standard and nothing special about them. Still was good and will recommend to anyone in Ann Arbor

Yelp
Great location, big restaurant, great drinks, great food. You have to keep in mind that this is a college bar, so the ambiance will be loud and college-y. For us, this was the experience we were looking for, since my husband is a UM grad and we were feeling nostalgic. We came here after the UM game after we had dinner at another place. We easily found a place to sit outside, although the table was still dirty as some people had just left. I just moved the dirty dishes to another abandoned table with dirty dishes. No biggie. We obviously wanted fishbowls and our waitress recommended the Danger Dane - it was delicious!!! Not too sweet and wasn't overly strong - I can see why this is dangerous. We also ordered the Call me Cupid, but we all liked the Danger Dane the best. We got top shelf fishbowls and they were still only $15! Super cheap for a high quality 64 ounce cocktail! For a late night snack, we ordered the famous Pizza Sticks. Half cheese, half pepperoni with a side of marinara and a side of house sauce (aka ranch mixed with marinara). They were, of course, delicious and exactly what we needed. Don't expect super speedy service here if you are coming at a late hour of the night as this place is crowded. The waitresses don't seem to mind if you flag them down though. If you come here, please tip your waitresses well. I feel so bad for them dealing with cheap, drunk college kids. They really are doing their best and are very nice. We will definitely be back to Charley's any time we are in AA!

Yelp
**The service has gotten much, much better. I think it truly depends on who you get as a server and how long they've been there. My two recent servers have been fantastic. They've taken care of me well. Because of this, and the fantastic products they put out, Charley's has a regular in me now. I will be back again and again. I'll just make sure to sit in my favorite servers sections when possible** The service here is remarkably bad. I was shocked over and over at how bad the service is here. It's like they just hire pretty blonde young women who have no experience in waitressing and put them on 8 tables. I mean whether it be the hostess taking us past 4 open tables, to have us sit where we can't see the game, then have another patron move her purse from a chair while she was in deep conversation with someone... was just bad. We ended up moving from that table anyways, and the hostess had just inconvenienced two parties. Ridiculous. Or how it took a while to get noticed. Not only us, but it seemed like a theme. There were two separate parties that came in during my time and they had to whistle and yell for a waitress. It was so ridiculous. Or how a waitress was leaving and made two tables near me close their tabs out instead of just introducing their new waitress. The couple next to me sat with empty cups for over 20 minutes. They had closed their tab with the one waitress, but I don't think another came to ever check on them. It was basically a way to end their night early. I've never seen a restaurant or bar where operating like that is okay... But no one seemed to question it, especially not this waitress that did it with a smile and expected a tip after she did that to them. The reason for three stars is because the drinks were really good. The fishbowl drinks were delicious and tasted like there was no alcohol, but once I stood up to leave, I felt it. They were sooo good. For the fishbowl, I will be back for the drinks. I got the nachos, and although there wasn't enough chips at first, they were delicious. We scarfed them down. I was genuinely impressed by how delish they were. So, although the service is terrible, I know I'll come back for the product. I think this is what makes this place what it is. The people putting in work to make products in the kitchen and behind the bar bring in the customers, but the girls out front aren't doing too hot. I know I'll be back for their products, and I'll just have to deal with the bad service unfortunately.

Yelp
Great food and drinks. Our server, Lily, was phenomenal. She was so attentive and sweet. Thank you Charley's!

Yelp
The aesthetic of this bar is perfect. I love the seating area located close to the bar. Our service was fantastic: quick, responsive, and thoughtful. If anything was every needed they helped right away. We got a fish bowl, the price of two drinks when you get the equivalent of three drinks. Very tasty and large menu that will definitely keep me coming back to try! The food is great as well. We ordered nachos, and while the first round came out cold, the manager noticed this without us even complaining, and gave us a new, warm one on the house.

Yelp
Meh. Not impressed. Not that great of a beer selection. They didn't even have the one craft on tap that I wanted (they were out). Food-wise, maybe we just didn't order the right things. I got the Georgia Reuben and my boyfriend got the Club sandwich. We split the two sandwiches. I really enjoyed my Reuben, but there was hardly any turkey on it. Slaw was tasty. Overall not bad at all. The club sandwich, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. The bread was dry, crunchy and basically evaporated into crumb form after biting into it. The sandwich was very dry overall, and the bacon was undercooked and fatty. The fries were good at least. Service was very sloppy and didn't seem to care or pay thorough attention to tables. I'd give it one more shot, but definitely nothing to write home about now.

Yelp
Went here off a whim of my brothers recommendation. I loved the mason jar aesthetic as much as the bar food that was to offer along with the experience. Will be back for round two and a jar to go!

Yelp
This place is the best. My boyfriend loves the pizza sticks and twists. Only complaini is that they used to have a dang good grilled cheese and the replaced it with a shitty panini grilled cheese on sourdough. Great place to watch a game. Would recommend the Jamaican Long Island fishbowl.
