The Best Restaurants and Cafes in Portland’s Old Town-Chinatown | Eater Portland

"This cute, curated snack bar and market is, in many ways, a return to the building’s origins: Goodies Snack Shop sits in the space once home to Teikoku Co., a market in the heart of Portland’s Nihonmachi (Japantown). These days, it’s a fun spot to stock up on snacks, candies, and noodles ahead of a riverside picnic. In keeping with the site’s heritage, there’s a strong focus on snacks from Asian-owned companies and beloved brands and flavors from Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and beyond. Goodies also continues to serve as a community hub, drawing crowds with events and pop-ups from kimchi-making classes to Lunar New Year festivities." - Zoe Baillargeon

Goodies Snack Shop in Portland’s Old Town Revives Its Building’s Legacy | Eater Portland

"On any given sunny afternoon I might see a couple of young professionals enjoying a cup of noodles at a tidy sidewalk table outside this 9-month-old concept store founded by Joyce Chung and Terence Brasch. Goodies combines grab-and-go snacks and beverages, Asian pantry staples, ample seating for people to spend time in the neighborhood, and flexible space for artists and entrepreneurs to host events. After learning the history of the 139-year-old building it occupies, the owners set out to revive the corner market legacy and to help shift perceptions of Old Town–Chinatown by hosting community plant swaps, kimchi-making workshops, block parties, street food pop-ups, and collaborations with nearby businesses. Chung and Brasch emphasize everyday neighborliness — greeting people by name, sitting outside, and partnering with their next-door neighbor to make the intersection feel safer and more welcoming — and say they are already seeing the positive impacts on foot traffic and neighborhood energy." - Eater

There is an enormous amount of human misery right outside the beautiful oasis of this ‘shop.’ I dialogued with the gentleman for about 60 seconds as I swiped my debit card. I purchased ‘house’ swedish fish and K-beauty under eye collagen pads. I really Love that the proprietors chose this Location. Why? Because they made it a destination on my google maps and offered up a snack for my journey.

goodies snack shop is a peaceful oasis in the middle of portland. it’s a thoughtfully curated selection of snacks, drinks, beauty products, dried goods and even dog treats! I always learn about some new fun products while shopping there. Joyce & Terrance are always helpful to narrow down choices and share the backstories behind the products they carry. Plus there is a shop dog! their sweet baby Hachiko! add this shop to your portland rotation ASAP!

This spot tucked away in Portland's Chinatown is a total hidden gem! You absolutely have to swing by - it's super cool and packed with the most fascinating snacks. Seriously, these goodies are like something straight out of a Thingtesting website, but even better when you can see them in person. The vibe? Oh, it's fantastic - totally chill and laid-back. I snapped some pics of their snack selection, which, by the way, is always switching things up. I'm definitely marking this place for a return visit. Check out the pics!

Google
Goodies not only is a cute shop ran by really amazing people, but also a beacon of change that can lift up the neighborhood. They curate an amazing selection of Asian snacks and goods while also being a space for small businesses/makers/artists to be showcased! If you’re on the West side of town, make sure to stop in and support Goodies!!

Yelp
Discovered this store because of the "Not 2 Sweet" asian ice cream popup (which was super delicious) yesterday and was surprised there's a specialty global snack store in downtown Portland! Their offering is quite unique. They have specialty seasonings, snacks, drinks and instant foods from all over the world (eg. Japan, Indonesia, etc) as well as offerings from small local Portland businesses like fun kit kat flavors, kewpie mayonnaise, crazy chili oil flavors and drinks. From the outside, the shop looks like a vintage lovely corner barbershop and inside the vibe is cute and trendy. There's also tables to enjoy snacks directly from the shelves and the popups they host. Area around is quiet and some random homeless due to proximity to Chinatown, but don't let that deter you from experiencing this specialty global snack goodness!

Yelp
Super cute snack store! You might never expect this to be here, but it's a great use of the space. Giant windows, wood floors, open shelves, happy plants, and lots of snacks... I like the vibe. They've got a small collection of excellently curated drinks and snacks. Super trendy brands, some niche Asian products, and more. I only took pictures of things I want to try! I took home some mushrooms drinks, anchovies, and a snack bar. Staff seems to know the products well so if you're not sure if something is tasty, just ask.

Yelp
Stopped here mainly because I heard they carried some Korean skin care. I bought the roundlab sunscreen to try out, I normally use the beauty of joseon one. The price was very fair. Lots of cool little Asian snacks & items. Saw a lot of items I don't see often or at all. Bought a few to try. Also got these sour apple rings there & my gosh, they are to die for!! The owner is super nice & friendly. We chatted it up a bit about the sunscreens. Love this little shop & everything it's about! Would definitely recommend everyone give it a look especially if you love Asian snacks.

Yelp
Old Town is my home, and for many years now it has grown to be a bit of a food desert. Until recently there was no where to get your staples or snackies, like oat milk or tuna or ramen or soda. Goodies has filled in the snackies-shaped hole in our hearts here in Chinatown, bringing an Asian-owned business to the heart of this historic neighborhood along with Korean and Japanese snacks. Whether it's peach ramune, hot pot flavored crisps, or real dehydrated fish snacks for your pets, you'll find something interesting, strange, and somehow perfect at Goodies. Did I mention Hatchi? There's a cute bodega dog named Hatchi. She is a Good Girl. She will gently greet you with a tip of the nose. Bonus: this location is stocked with small beauty accessories and plant goods. Occasional neighborhood plant swaps make this location a must-stop on your next Saturday Market visit downtown or incursions to the waterfront for the cherry blossom festival. Get good!

Yelp
Stopped in here after yoga to cure some hunger pains before my drive home. Goodies Snack Shop carries an assortment of unique food and gift items from around the world. I bought Korean noodles and French gummy worms. They did not disappoint. The gummies were the best vegan gummies I've ever had... maybe even the best gummies ever?! Yummy flavors and consistency. Just get them and you'll see what I mean. I met the co-owner and he was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the products. There's tables by the window if you want to stay. The only thing is they're located in Chinatown but you almost forget about that because the shop is so cute. There's no other snack shop like it!

Yelp
I have been meaning to check out Goodies after hearing about the shop from an Instagram account I follow! I live in the deep suburbs outside of PDX now so I love to hear about all these cool shops and businesses from others who go to Portland way often than me! Really enjoyed the shop with the variety of snack options - Asian snacks (picked up Lays nori seaweed and salted egg flavor for example), local BIPOC owned snacks companies, a variety of beverages (I picked up Sanzo!), and even the best protein bars (Barebells). Love seeing harder to find brands and inventory items here - so this truly a snack heaven hidden gem you should all check out! The owners were very welcoming and I enjoyed taking to them and hearing about their shop and what they offer. They have an adorable plants section as well and overall the ambiance is really nice! I'll be back and can't wait for my next snack haul! My 5 year old loves all the snacks I brought home and we have been enjoying our finds last couple days

Yelp
Stopped into this independently owned snack shop in Old Town today and I am so glad I did. There are so many unique items and the space is so fun and cheerful. The co owner I spoke with was so kind and friendly! I can't wait to try all the new to me tasty treats and drinks I got here, and they had some of my favorite snacks too, like Hello Panda cookies. I really appreciated that they had so many fun non alcoholic beverage options

Yelp
A must try in downtown Portland! I was instantly at ease walking into Goodies, the ambiance of this place is 10/10 with gorgeous plants, comfortable furniture and picture perfect seating area. The shop owners are welcoming and personable, and effortlessly made me feel comfortable in the space. Even got to meet their ADORABLE little dog. The variety and representation of Asian snacks and drinks here was super exciting, I love to see BIPOC small business in our city!! I know I'll be coming back to visit this cute shop and the amazing owners.
