Yelp
This was my first time trying a Gordon Ramsey restaurant, so I was really looking forward to it. While they did some things well, I can't say I was overly impressed. While it probably won't appear on Kitchen Nightmares anytime soon, it certainly didn't seem like a very good value for the money.
I ordered a Gordon's Combo which was a bit pricey at $19.99. It came with fish, chicken, shrimp, fries, and two sauces. The food was visually appealing, had good colors (except the chicken), and was garnished with a lemon wedge, and some parsley. I was disappointed by the small portion sizes though. It was almost like Gordon distracted me with all his yelling and slipped me kid's meal while I wasn't looking.
However, my fries were crisp and cooked to a nice golden brown color, so I can't complain about them. The cod was also crisp, tasted fresh, and wasn't greasy at all. However, it looked to be the size of a fish finger rather than a filet from a proper chip shop. The chicken strip was also small, seemed a bit grey and was dotted with small craters, that reminded me of the surface of the moon. It was really dry when I bit into it, and didn't have much chicken inside. The shrimp on the other hand were a home run! They were plump, fresh, and didn't have any shell at the end of the tail. They were definitely the highlight of the three proteins. The curry sauce was colorful and delicious, and tartar was creamy and went well with the fish.
The atmosphere is casual with some British accents here and there. The cashier was friendly, they prepared my food quickly, and an employee actually walked around the dining room to check on us. Something rare in a fast-casual restaurant like this. It's a shame about the prices and small portions because they really undermine the restaurant's appeal. If I were to judge Gordon solely on the portions, or the chicken, I'd tell him to hang up his jacket.
