Sensational experience! Food was exceptional, seasonal, varied, simple in presentation but complex yet well balanced in flavour. So many stand out dishes, but for me the scallop was the best I’ve ever eaten and my first taste of mutton was very delicious! Service was very friendly but attentive without being intrusive. The staff expertly talked us through our wine pairings with interest and passion. We had a wonderful evening at Gorse and highly recommend it!

Great to have a Michelin starred restaurant in the capital city and we'll deserved. You can see and taste how skilled and passionate the chefs are for their food, in every well created delicious dish. Felt welcomed from the moment we walked in the door and was well looked after. Exceptional dining experience all round, will definitely be visiting again.

An amazing culinary experience. So many fantastic Welsh flavours. Highly recommend the paired wines. Excellent service from the staff and great to be able to see the chefs working their magic. Every single dish was delicious.

Excellent meal at Gorse. The service is really friendly and enjoyed the open kitchen. We did the seven course tasting menu with wine pairing but will definitely do the ten course next time - great selection of wines and some quite unusual. Really love the dedication to Welsh produce, some amazing fish courses - this made the meal completely different to other fine dining experiences. Noticed that the ceramics were also Welsh made, great attention to detail. In our view now the best fine dining restaurant in Cardiff. We will definitely be back. I note other comments about the 12.5% service charge but we felt that the value of the set menus are really reasonable, especially when comparing against other restaurants. We personally had no problem with that charge and was well deserved.

Easily my favourite set course lunch I've had this year. We came early and the place was empty but the staff seemed excited to serve us and were super engaged with the menu and making sure we had a nice time. Cocktails were unique and delicious twists on classic mixes - highly recommend The David. The food was stunning, in terms of presentation, taste, quality, and overall experience. The favourite dish when we went was the deer, which was delightful and a great portion size. You'd be hard pressed to find anything this good at this price anywhere else - the £35 pp was worth every pence. Highly recommended and I will be back for dinner!

What a wonderful experience. Tom Walters new restaurant Gorse is revelation. To see a chef, alone in his kitchen, manage ten courses plus 3 pre-meal and 3 post-meal treats is impressive. Even more impressive is that every dish is flavour rich and full of local ingredients cooked with care and love. The service was gentle, attentive but not pushy. The gentle nature of the meal meant that we had eaten for three and a half hours without noticing the time go by Both my husband and I were overwhelmed by the deliciousness of the experience. We will certainly be back for more of these delights when the seasons change.

Amazing food and even better service. The wine pairings were brilliantly chosen and the staff were eloquent and confident in their descriptions without being condescending. Would definitely recommend!

A welcome addition to Cardiff’s food scene since May 2024, offering a modern lunch menu priced at £35. The restaurant’s Scandi-inspired design, with an open-plan kitchen and seating for 22, creates a cozy and contemporary atmosphere. The Meal Amuse-Bouche: The mushroom cone was a standout, creamy with a delightful caramelized taste. The bread had a beautiful crusty glaze and soft interior, though slightly oily. However, the seaweed butter didn’t quite complement the bread’s flavors. Starter: The venison tartare featured well-prepared cubes of tender venison with rye crisps, mustard, and green shoots. The flavors blended harmoniously. Main: The cod was cooked to perfection, accompanied by broccoli and kale that were beautifully done. The addition of a muffin under the cod was a clever touch, enhancing the dish’s texture and flavor. Dessert: The Italian meringue, slightly burnt on the edges, had a creamy depth that paired well with the caramel ice cream. The miso fudge, while intense and salty on its own, balanced perfectly with the other dessert elements. Service & Pricing Service was attentive and friendly, but the 12.5% service charge feels more reflective of London dining standards. While the service was good, Cardiff might benefit from a more tailored approach to such charges, in line with local expectations. Overall, a delightful experience with beautifully executed dishes, though some refinements could enhance the value perception for Cardiff diners.
