"The most scenic way to reach Ljubljana castle, which overlooks the city from the top of a hill, is by funicular – or by foot, if you like walking uphill. However you choose to get here, you’ll find this restaurant in the castle’s spacious inner courtyard, where it serves excellent local cuisine. Among the dishes that we enjoyed most, our favourite was the veal and curly kale – a superb fillet of veal served with the perfect accompaniment of curly kale and a fragrant mushroom cream." - Michelin Inspector

This place has won many awards, and understandably so. The food is inspired by the twenty-four separate gastronomic regions in Slovenia, and here they are experts at the many traditional dishes that scatter this country. The location (in a palace) and the decor are very unique, and if you feel that the place is particularly pmarket, the prices will in fact surprise you. They have managed to keep the restaurant grounded; it’s all about great food and speedy service. The wines are very well selected, and the beers come from a local micro-brewery. Our favourite dishes here : any of the homemade pastas or ravioli!

We came here for a « treat ourselves » meal and it did not disappoint. The location was magical, the menu was innovative, the food was delicious and our server did a fantastic job at explaining each dish and wine pairing. We chose the 4 course tasting menu and it was perfect.

We had the four course meal while on a short visit to Ljubljana. And that’s what I’d like to recommend anyone doing when visiting this lovely town! It was such a treat to be served these dishes, they were innovative without too much bullshit - it tastes just like it should. All the flavors were heightened and natural. Superb! If I ever come back to Ljubljana I will be sure to dine here again. Thank you.

I had such an amazing experience here! Apart from the food, the staff gave us such a warm and kind welcome. Particularly, Ula was very friendly and helpful. Recommended me her favorite wine which I tried and enjoyed myself. Overall, would highly recommended and I will definitely come back! My favorite was the elderberry dessert!

Very good meal, even with a slight mix up in the kitchen. The service made it wonderful. The building is also stunning. Extensive Slovenian wine list. We came for lunch it has 2, 3, or 4 course options with a selection of dishes across each section. If you come for dinner it is a similar flow, but with up to 6 courses.

We had a delicious and enjoyable 4 course dinner. 49€ per person for this quality was amazing. The standouts were the beef and cuttlefish dishes. The only miss for us was the seabass and strawberries (we found the pickled fish a bit bland). Service was friendly, helpful, and professional. The suggested wine pairing were well matched too.

Overall very nice place inside the castle. Octopus, their traditional pork and the fried chicken for the kids were extremely delicious plates. However, the other 2 dishes we chose were not as good as the ones I shared above.

Dining inside a castle is, by itself, an experience worthy of a storybook—but the prix fixe menu options at Gostilna na Gradu elevates that fantasy into an unforgettable culinary journey. From the moment we passed through the castle doors, the ambiance transported us. A purple hue flickered against stone walls casting its hue in the sky. The service? Impeccable—gracious, intuitive, and steeped in old-world charm. The prix fixe menu unfolded like a four-act play. A delicate amuse-bouche awakened the palate, followed by a starter of veal carpaccio—earthy, tender, and artfully plated. The highlight was the main course: steak with a reduction and the beautiful squid ink ravioli. Dessert was both whimsical and refined—a cheesecake with a creamy pistachio . A sweet, fruity finale that felt like a kiss goodnight from the castle itself. Pairing each course with a thoughtfully selected wine from the castle’s private cellar only deepened the magic. Dining here isn’t just a meal; it’s an immersion into elegance, history, and flavor. If you ever wanted to feast like royalty, this is your chance.

Fantastic food. Good service. A small hike to the castle but well worth it. The wine pairing was good. We had the set menu. Costed about $60. Need reservations.
