This gym is the BEST. Took a group boxing class with Kim - she was extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, and a total badass. The "regulars" in the class were all very welcoming and helpful, the music was great, the environment was awesome, overall great workout. Clean, friendly, and a good sweat. You won't regret going.

Easily the best gym in NYC. Randy and Rob have created an environment that not only helps you reach your peak fitness level, but have a hell of a time doing it. They are experts at pairing you up with the right trainer to put together a routine specific to your goals. My wife and I now box with 2X Olympic champion Hosam Abdin who’s also become a close friend - he’s broken down the sport of boxing in a way to learn proper technique and form quickly and easily, all the while getting us in the best shape of our lives. I’ve played D1 big east baseball and completed several IRONMANS but nothing compares to Abdin’s workout at Gotham. Check this place out - you won’t be disappointed.

My favorite gym in New York City. This gym got me in the best shape of my life and has become family to me. In a city that is so busy with so many options, I encourage you all to come check this gym out for a sense of home!

Just the best gym in all of Manhattan! The trainers and everyone who works there are so friendly and fun, it's never too crowded, everyone's focused on getting a good workout, and it's such a positive, supportive environment. Love it and feel lucky it's in my neighborhood.

Before I went to Gotham Gym, I was tiny, somewhat scrawny and not very strong. That all changed when I went to Gotham. The staff was very helpful and respectable. Thanks to their help, I am now able to lift 262 lbs!!! Thank you Gotham! We’re gonna keep getting this money!

I really love working out in this gym. I had been a customer of them for almost a year now. I liked the place and the equipment present in this gym. The coaches were friendly. I can properly execute good routines here.

Very disappointed by the lack of customer care. Great gym and have been coming here for the last two years. Yet, they wouldn’t help me re-schedule a class as it was going to take up a spot. I understand it all transactional at the end of the day but if a customer has been supporting you for two years, I’d expect a slightly different treatment.

Neat little boxing based workouts. Clean and you are able to get a total body workout in on their various resistants options.

Trained with Malik today. He was so attentive to my form and alignment and gently aided me in getting into proper boxing alignment. He was full of insight on the mindset of a successful boxer, which we were able to transfer to my mindset. What I really loved is how generous he was with helping me releasing tension in my shoulder. He gave me many tools to start practicing at home to loosed up my muscles. Thank you!

(KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A BLOG POST TURNED YELP REVIEW.) I have been following Gotham Gym on instagram for about two years now and have always been curious as to why so many models train there. In my mind I imagined this pristine, super high-end gym with vanity lighting, spa amenities and a very intimidating "you can't sit with us" vibe. I mean this place is where Victoria's Secret model's get runway ready, there must be a huge luxury component to it, right? To my surprise when I arrived there I encountered a small gym tucked away in the West Village with nothing too glitzy or glamorous about it. If you don't know about it you can probably walk by it and not even notice it. Except you will thanks to the amount of models and celebrities who hang out there. The space consists of a Boxing ring which is probably the gym's main attraction, weight area, small group fitness studio and a few cardio machines. No amenities like locker rooms or juice bars. What I really loved about the space is the fact that it has so much natural light, which is something very rare in New York especially at a gym. I went there for a one on one personal training session and was very close to dying at certain points but the adrenalin rush kept me alive (so poetic I know.) I will definitely have to try and review a group class very soon. The gym is membership based and classes are included in your monthly membership, personal training is not. However you can pay for a drop in class and the studio is also included in Classpass. After trying this gym I have to say I was really happy with my training session which consisted mostly of boxing. Boxing is a great workout for the body and for the mind. It's a mix of cardio, weight training, flexibility and agility. There is no other workout that encompasses so many elements, which is probably why so many models have made it their workout of choice. Now I still don't know why so many celebrities flock to this particular studio but my guess would be that the main reason is because Hugh Jackman works out there. The other reasons I can think of is that Gotham is located in a very quiet corner of a very quiet neighborhood and unlike most boxing studios this one doesn't stink, it actually smells great! The only downside I saw is that they don't have a real locker room with a changing area, what they have is a room with old wooden lockers and you have to bring your own lock. This would make my gym to office transition very complicated since you sweat buckets when you box and they have no showers! Other than that this gym deserves an A plus and I will definitely be back to see if I throw some more punches.

Best workout, best gym vibe and so much fun. For a one on one training session, ask for Simeon. He is beyond....you will get the best workout, learn so much, laugh and not know where the time went. Off the chart!

This actually looks like one of the best places in NYC for kickboxing. I actually got the pleasure of meeting rob a few months ago and you can tell that he has actually put his heart and soul into this place. He really does care about what he dose and his staff having the true NY vibe. Everything that you get here is designed to be a true NY experience. I love the layout and interior of the building. I also did like the awesome tee shirts and other things that they had to choose from in there as well. I actually did love the layout of the place and the hardwood floor. I wasn't quite ready to get a class in when I met with him due to a sports injury. Then I did actually leave the city to deal with some family issues. I do look forward to taking some classes there when I return to the city at the end of the year. I've been following this place on instagram and I do feel like it is actually a good place for progressive training and getting into the best shape of your life. It was good to meet with you Rob. I look forward to getting in a workout in the near future. There were just so many amazing quality's about this place. Its too great not to pass up.

A neat, one-of-a-kind elite boxing gym. Well-organized, clean, full of equipment. The staff is kind and professional. I got to work out with Frank and Sonny, both are the real deal with lots of experience. Whenever I needed an advice, trainers were there for me to help and explain things in detail. Some very dedicated and knowledgeable people come here, inspires to see their skills. This place is a good combination of tough and chill. Nobody's going to bother you here. Hands down the best gym in the city.

I have tried group lesson in a few different boxing studios in the city, what I enjoy the most is the pad work, so the maximum of pad work time I have, the best rating I'd give, hence Gotham gym is one of the best I have found in the city so far. The facility itself is very decent and the gym itself is very clean. Locker room is a little small but it serves its purpose. For a 60 minutes of group class, they typically start with 15 minutes of warm up (or it feels like 15 minutes) and teach you some basic technics. Then they pair you up with another student in the class and you rotate between holding pad and punch, following the trainer's demonstration. I personally feel that you can have a great work out if you and your partner are at the same level, in any case, I always get a better work out here than going to boxing gym where you don't get much pad work time and only rotate between different stations.

Wow I loved the boxing class. The instructor was really helpful and so was the front desk. I had to sign a waiver and put my information in the system before class. The only thing though was that it was so hot in the gym. I'm not sure if it was because there was no air conditioning or simply because they like it being hot and sweaty in there. The class was challenging in my opinion. I went with a friend and had fun in the class. I'll definitely be coming back to boxing here at Gotham gym!

I was going to sign up for this gym but after seeing how they treated someone who came in for an interview, I will be going elsewhere. Everyone who walks through your business doors should be treated with the same respect.

After all of the positive reviews, I was really looking forward to working out here. However I was sorely disappointed with the class. I took a boxing class here departing from Work Train Fight which provides awesome boxing classes. The instructor was more concerned with flirting with the pretty young women (and there were many) and singing all of the lyrics to the Biggy songs playing. He did not correct the class at all and looking around, the class really needed help with learning how to punch and move. Also, the instructor always had his back to me when rattling off the combinations making it hard to follow the class. The other important thing to note is that they don't have a real locker room. It is a room with two curtains barely covering the door. It is too small for all of the women that come through here. There are maybe 20 wooden Ikea type lockers and you need to bring your own lock. I highly suggest you change before coming here. If you want really learn boxing, go to Work Train Fight. You won't be disappointed.

This is not a "pretty people" gym like Equinox. People are not going here for meticulously vacumed floor, always wiped down benches, and Kiehls products. If you want that you're not going to like this place. I didn't think I could actually find a gym like this in Manhattan, especially west village. But seriously -- I've gotten some of the most intense workouts ever here. Midway through a workout here I saw this crazy strong girl doing a circuit of boxing pad work (she was so fast holy eff), then to bent knee deadlift, to squat, to abs. Then back to boxing. No rest. If this intensity appeals to you -- especially if you like the prospect of mixing boxing with barbell work (seriously wtf insane), then you should come to Gotham. Also Wolverine trains here early in the morning. nbd u kno

I LOVE Gotham. I came to New York for the summer to do an internship, and I am so sad to have to leave it behind when I go back to school. I wish I could take it with me! My starting point was pathetic, and I almost passed out (literally) after my first class. But the atmosphere is so friendly and encouraging that I couldn't NOT come again. Everyone here is just here to get healthy, not to show off. I started out at working out once a week, and now I'm up to four times a week! It's something I look forward to now. I definitely recommend the boxing class. The private training sessions are great too! Any of the trainers will get you into shape and are so nice. Mike, my trainer, was amazing! Go, and try out Gotham. I promise you won't regret it. Girls--this is NOT a macho, guys-only gym!

Been coming here for almost a year now and it is definitely enjoy coming here! Staff is very nice and welcoming every time you walk in, the work out is great and effective, and the price is super cheap compared to the commercialized $200-$300 a month gyms. Can be intimidating the first time if you come by yourself and have never boxed before, but really isn't that hard to pick up and people are super nice and ready to help.

I highly recommend Gotham Gym, particularly for those who are curious about the possibility of adding boxing to their fitness regiment, yet may feel slightly intimidated by the prospect. The space has a great energy that is both full service gym yet with an afficionado's passion for the sport of boxing, I love the great fights posters on the walls. I took a group beginner's class and my review is in large part based on my experience with Noah as the group leader of our lesson, Noah is patient, accessible, and able to balance leading a high energy session with individual attention-a difficult balance to achieve in 45 minutes yet he does. The staff was gracious and patient as well. I got the impression from some descriptions of Gotham that this space is a bit of scene yet for me walking in out of shape and green I felt comfortable and left being glad that I went.

Cool place with good instructors, also clean (doesn't have bad smell like some boxing gym). The class is challenging and dynamic, definitely a good sweat. I'm not sure if the shower in this place is working, most people don't shower here anyways but I'd like to have that optionality if I'm going to somewhere after the class.

Really kind staff and excellent pair boxing. They try to match you up with someone with similar experience level so you get the most out of your class. Two of the trainers rapped my hands, i did get $h1t for having a different gym's raps :) will definitely come again

Love Gotham! I've been going for two years and it's been great. The trainers are all so friendly and helpful, no matter what you're doing. Josh's Boot camp class on Wednesday is amazing and really challenge and inspire you! I wouldn't change a thing about it. Plus the variety is great between Boxing, Muay Thai, Boot camp or just using the equipment!

I love this place. As many others, I found out about it via Instagram thanks to the gazillion models working out here. I train with Sonny almost every day (only have so for a week) and I love it. I was new to boxing and quite scared to try it, but it's so addicting and you always want to get better. The 1 hour is usually split up between boxing/mitt work and strength and conditioning, but no one workout is the same! I've never been this sore/sweated this much before in my life! The gym itself is basic, no frills, which I like. No Kiehl's shampoo and candles, just honest and hard work going on here. Everyone's friendly and encouraging. Couldn't recommend it more!

not bad, but not great. most of the guys are nice but not very professional/ i see them hang around equipment - don't know if they're using it or taking up space / but this seems like a mans man / tom girl type of gym. it's a fighter gym heavily based on boxing. no showers / 1 toilet / and front desk isn't run great - i've seen some turnover there. for $100 a month eh... i don't appreciate the cursing i can hear amongst trainers

I had a really fun time. The class was a great mix of intense with proper technical instruction. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. It's a little out of the way for me but I'd consider joining.

Not gonna lie, I was pretty intimidated When I first walked into this gym. It's definitely a no frill gym with a huge boxing ring as the focal point in the middle of the room. As a 5'3" 113 lb girl my only experiences with group fitness classes has been quiet yoga and pilates centers or dance based cardio classes. However, being surprisingly athletic, this is exactly what I have been looking for in a workout. Definitely challenging and you will leave super sweaty, I felt accomplished that I could keep up for basically the entire boxing class as well as the muay thai class. After weeks of really pushing in my workouts but still not feeling as though it was enough, I woke up extremely sore the next morning. The staff is super nice and encouraging, I'll definitely plan on coming back!

If you want serious resistance work with barbells and free weights, Hanson Fitness and Blink provide much better alternatives. I've worked out at Gotham with my personal trainer for almost six month. The manager of Gotham recently installed two large boxing rings that take up over 50% of the gym space and leave a cramped work out space for people like me who are only interested in doing resistance work with barbells and free weights. Furthermore, the manager insists on playing very loud music through the gym speakers which makes it difficult to concentrate. When asked courteously to lower the volume a bit, the manager has repeatedly refused, even during off peak hours. In contrast to the manager, the staff at Gotham are courteous and friendly.

Great no-frills gym. They pack weights, cardio, a boxing ring, and crossfit equipment into a small space, so you've got a ton of options. Great trainers too; they clearly love what they do. It tends to get crowded at peak hours, so check it out on the weekend to see everything there. It's a fitness playground.

I love this gym! I have been coming here for a couple of months, and everyone who works here is super friendly/helpful but also very professional. They have all the equipment I could ever need to get a hard workout and when I run across something I don't know how to use, people are always willing to show me how or help me out. The community feeling is great, but it's also nice to be in an environment where like everyone is working out hard and the staff is really knowledgeable. If you are looking for a trainer, you should workout with Mike! He's awesome----laid back personality, but pushes you hard. If you are looking for a boxing/fitness class that will leave you in a full sweat and get a full body workout, then you should take Mike's Sat. class, I think he teaches during the week, too, but I can't remember right now. I have tried NYSC, Equinox, other boutique gyms/boxing gyms, and I've found no other gym that has the community feel and intensity of Gotham. If you're serious about working out/fitness/getting in shape, then these guys will take care of you!

I've been a member here for 5 years and I really like the vibe in the gym. Great staff and trainers, and everyone is focused on working out. However, the music is so loud that I can barely hear myself think, let alone my own music. It's gotten so bad that I am now thinking of cancelling my membership. It's too bad since this is a great local gym that isn't part of the over-hyped chains.

Tried boxing for the first time and absolutely loved the class Curtis taught. The class was large so I didn't get the attention to technique that I would've liked for a first timer but overall I got a good workout and had fun. Will be going back!

Mike Castle gave my husband and me a one hour private class at Gotham. Cardio, weights and boxing in intervals. It was challenging and fun. We will be back when we return to NYC.

I checked out this gym before but never became a member because it's quite small. Plus it's $1000 to work out in a tiny space- you could actually just get yourself a home gym for a cheaper price. Clean gym, super small facility, it can't handle more than 25 people. Not enough treadmills, equipment, or machines... the only perk?... they have a boxing ring. Don't go unless you are serious about boxing. Not a good gym for people who just want to work out.

Literally just joined yelp, to write my first ever review to let everyone know what a great experience I had at this gym! I went for the first time last night, and had a personal training session with Q. He was professional, friendly, thorough, and knowledgeable! (made sure I had no injuries/my workout history.. let him know I've been training for a half marathon so basically been running a ton.. he knew right away its probably bothered my knees, etc.) And then the fun began. He literally kicked my butt, in a good way! I had an awesome, dynamic workout. Going to be sore.. Of course, everyone comes here for the boxing, and it was SO FUN. Q taught me all of the basics, and I really got a great sweat in. I can see why people love this workout so much, because you feel super tough, and can really progress in your training with it. My girlfriends also came for a personal training session last night, and had a good time. We are all going to come back to try a class. The gym is definitely no frills like other users have said, but everyone's fun and energetic attitude make up for any missing juice bar. I got the idea that the gym is really a family, and everyone was super friendly/approachable. I hate gyms that you get nervous in,, and where everyone is super conceded/cliquey Hope to be back in the future ... can't say much about the pricing structure/options. I'm sure it isn't cheap, but nothing in NYC is. But definitely such a fun workout & I was super impressed by the staff.

I could not be happier to have this gym open up in my neighborhood. It's state-of-the-art, a great size (not too big or crowded), and EVERYONE that works there is a trainer. The classes are equally amazing, and it honestly makes working out fun. It's so nice to have finally found my gym! Amazing lighting and music too- all the essentials for motivating :)

I was a member for almost two years, then I moved to another neighborhood and cancelled my membership. When I was reviewing my bank statements for 2013 I found out they had charged my card twice in a month. So I called them (twice!) to get explanations. I was told I would be called back and nobody ever did.

LOVE this gym. The trainers are EXCELLENT. The classes are great. These guys are hard-core and every one of them have a heart of gold. I LOVED Mike's Saturday boxing class. I want to move back to the West Village just to be near this gym every day!!

Great gym with everything I need. Having this gym nearby has been one of the best things in my life. With old Printing House gone, Equinox being more of a social strutting scene than a gym, and crowded as Crunch has become, I'm grateful to have this boutique gym here. The place is clean and airy, the equipment is good, the staff is excellent, and from champion boxers to weekend warriors to housewives, everybody puts in a solid honest effort.

I don't usually write reviews, but after goiing to this amazing gym, I really felt like I had to. I have been wanting to join a gym for sometime now, but because I wasn't in the best of shape I always felt like I would feel out of place. After doing some homework and reading reviews, I decided to give Gotham a shot...It's the BEST thing I have ever done!!! The people there are the most friendly, encouraging, normal people that you would ever want to meet!! The workouts with Robert are awesome and working out alone is great too. The entire staff couldn't be any nicer or helpful!! Could the locer rooms be any nicer, sure..Could there be more than one bathroom, sure..but I think that would just take away from the character and make it a typical see and be seen gym. If you really just want to get a great workout, and surround yourself with great people, Gotham is definitely the place!!!

Gotham gym is my home. All of the trainers are family to me and the regular gym goers as well. The atmosphere is wonderful, extremely motivating. We all work hard to push each other to our limits. I feel very blessed to have found this gym, if I could workout all day everyday I would do it here! You can experience a range of hard and rewarding workouts from Mike, Rob, and all of the trainers. Love them all so much, and the results!

Very professional staff, equipment is in good condition. Good sense of community, and a nice array of different bags to work combinations on.
