Haitian Chefs Introduce Americans to Haitian Culture Through Their Food | Eater

"Nathalie Lecorps, daughter of Haitian immigrants and owner of the first Haitian food truck in the greater Boston area, uses her business as cultural education and requires customers to order in Haitian Creole. “For me, it’s not only about eating the food, it’s about experiencing the culture,” she says. Her menu is presented in Creole with English descriptions underneath so non-Haitian customers can understand each meal." - Annie Harrigan

Best Haitian Restaurants Around Boston | Eater Boston

"A few years ago, Cambridge lost its only remaining Haitian restaurant, Camie’s. The community grew excited when Gourmet Kreyol announced their food truck would start making weekly stops at MIT. Order a plantain sandwich stuffed with griot or fried chicken or a refreshing salad bowl, and wash it down with a mango passion fruit juice. Not only are they filling a gap in the neighborhood, but they also show up to cook meals like rice and sòs pwa, a rich bean sauce, for Haitians migrating to shelters in the area." - Ashia Aubourg

If you are anywhere near Mattapan, Boston, drop whatever you are doing and make a detour for Gourmet Kreyol. I don't say this lightly: this restaurant serves, without a doubt, the best Haitian food I have ever had. The flavors are vibrant, authentic, and perfectly executed—so much so that during my short visit to Boston, I found myself going back a staggering three times! I remember when it was just a food truck and I would check them out near city hall. The menu is a great, but a few items truly stood out. The Plantain Sandwich is pure genius—a savory revelation that swaps traditional bread for crispy, pressed plantains, holding together a delicious filling. It's handheld, comforting, and an absolute must-try. I also devoured the Okap Bowl, which was fresh, hearty, and packed with layers of flavor. No Haitian meal is complete without pikliz, and Gourmet Kreyol’s version is the perfect acidic, crunchy, and fiery counterpoint to the rich main dishes. It was just spicy enough. For sides, the rice with the black mushrooms (diri ak djon djon) was the ultimate expression of Haitian comfort food—deeply earthy and fragrant. Served alongside the other, equally delicious rice option, it offered a savory and aromatic foundation for the meal. To wash it all down, the Basin Blue drink was sweet, refreshing, and wonderfully tropical. The sheer quality and consistency of the food are why I returned not once, but twice more after my initial visit. Gourmet Kreyol isn't just a restaurant; it’s an essential cultural and culinary stop. If you are in Mattapan, Boston, you absolutely need to experience this for yourself!

I was first introduced to Gourmet Kreyol Food truck located near City Hall, through my daughter’s social media internship for an agency. Fast forward to today—my dad suggested I order takeout from Gourmet Kreyol, and since I was in the mood for Haitian food, I gave it a try. I won’t compare it to my mom’s cooking (most Haitians will say no one cooks better than their own family!), but because my household does a lot of takeout, I can confidently compare it to other Haitian restaurants. By far, Gourmet Kreyol ranks in my top five of Haitian restaurants. I ordered the black rice, shrimp creole (made to order), and a side of string beans and carrots. The food was both flavorful and satisfying. The black rice was cooked to perfection, the shrimp creole was well-seasoned and delicious, and the vegetables were tender and fresh. All in all, my meal was very appetizing...it hit the spot!!! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will definitely be back!

Let me start by saying this. I’m Haitian, and I hate eating other people’s Haitian food. Nobody’s cooking hits like my grandmother’s. That’s just facts. Straight-up it reminded me of her cooking. The flavors were deep, rich, and cooked with the kind of love you can’t fake. I don’t say this lightly, but this was some of the best Haitian food I’ve had outside of my own family. If you're Haitian, you already know how high that bar is. And if you’re not? This is the kind of spot that’ll show you what real Haitian food is supposed to taste like. 10/10. I enjoyed the hell out of it. I’ll definitely be back

The food was very tasty; they could put more fried beef in the plate. Came with 5 pieces and I had to order an extra side. Other than that blue lemonade was Amazing as well.

Lunch special Is phenomenal! I thought I didn’t like Haitian fried chicken, but these chefs can cook!

The food is okay: the stew turkey is delicious, the black rice is good, but the mac & cheese is dry, and the pikliz has too much vinegar. But the staff is unprofessional - there was a woman who was rude & charged me $2 because I didn't want ice in my drink. And she had an attitude! Then I found out she's the owner!!! WHAT!?!?! Bring back the little white woman, at least she smiles!

My first time trying this place via delivery service. I ordered the Okap plate with Haitian meatballs, Mac and cheese and rice and beans. Meatballs were too salty, could not eat it at all. Mac and cheese had a weird cheese/epis aftertaste. Rice and beans were perfection though! Haitian lemonade was amazing! The kremas cake was delicious! Next time I'll pass on the meatballs and Mac and cheese.
