Convenient location, easy parking, trendy rustic decor, friendly/solid service, great food, and reasonable prices for quantity - worth it for a fun outing, and a favorite of many locals. Insane (in such a great way) how many ways you can flavor and plus up grits!
Fried Green Tomatoes: We had fried green tomatoes earlier in the day, and these fell a little short. We got these off the happy hour menu, so we were missing the pimento cheese, which may have improved this offering. The happy hour version only comes with the bacon jam, which was tasty and a good complement to the fried green tomatoes. But the tomatoes were cut in relatively thick chunks, and so while the fried crust was delicious, the tomatoes were still more undercooked than perfectly cooked.
Fried Chicken Livers: The dirty grits, paired with smoked tomato sauce were so perfectly seasoned and tasty, and was great with the fried chicken livers. The fried chicken livers had a thin coating on it so that the crust didn't overwhelm the delicacy of the livers, and none of it was overcooked so that the livers were still tender and delicious. If you're a fan of livers, this is a must order.
Shrimp & Grits: The gouda grits were good, the shrimp were fresh and tender. We replaced the green peppers with collard greens, but instead of replacing, they gave us a side of collard greens and charged us for a side. So substitutions don't seem to be as acceptable at this restaurant but still good service.
Fried Chicken & Grits: The fried chicken was delicious, but was a little overly fried so that the crust was a bit thicker than I would've liked and some of the chicken was overdone, when there were thinner portions of chicken. The red grits were delicious though, and the collard greens that came with it, mixed in, were very rich altogether.
