The 10 Best Coffee Shops in Washington, D.C. | Condé Nast Traveler

"Grace Street, in Georgetown, is pretty straightforward: Responsibly sourced beans are roasted on-site, making up the base of drinks like pour-overs and siphon cold brews. Baristas are knowledgable and serious about their craft, so don't be afraid to tap them for a bit of beverage guidance. The pastries are pretty legit, too, and there's a whole blackboard filled with sandwiches of different city names—the Madrid is made of chorizo and chimichurri, while the Beirut has steak, hummus, and brined vegetables. It's not a meal, exactly, but it's definitely enough to hold you over." - Laura Ratliff

Google
One of my all time favorite coffee shops in DC! I first started going to Grace Street Coffee when they were still located on their namesake, Grace Street, in 2017. They've moved locations since then to a gorgeous spot right next to the Georgetown waterfront, but the quality of their coffee and friendliness, attentiveness of their service has remained the same. Their coffee menu is quite extensive and every single item is outstanding; as one of DC's most prolific local coffee roasters, it's so clear that they deeply care about the beans and unique, subtle flavor profiles of each roast. Their coffee is rich, flavorful, and smooth, and I am always so genuinely impressed by every drink I get here. Beyond the coffee, though, they also have a phenomenal selection of teas. I love their matcha (probably one of the best in DC), and their loose leaf tea is fantastic. One of my coffee shop pet peeves is when a barista just hands you a cup of hot water with a tea bag in it, but Grace Street truly appreciates the tea; they will steep the loose leaf tea for you for the right amount of time and with the right temperature of water, then hand you the final, completed beverage. It's a small thing, but the extra time to brew the tea properly really elevates the experience and shows how much Grace Street cares about making sure everything -- coffee or not -- is executed perfectly. They also serve a variety of food, including pastries from Pluma Bakery and some hearty breakfast burritos / bowls from Monstera. I've sampled a variety of pastries, including their monkey bread for a sweet treat and potato danish for a more savory bite, and they've all been great. The coffee shop tends to be quite crowded so it's hard to find seating, but if you manage to snag a table and/or spot on their staircase benches, it's such a lovely vibe. If not, there are a few picnic tables outside or you can take your coffee for a walk along the waterfront.

Google
Decaf latte was excellent. Beautiful sweetness and perfectly roasted on the light-medium side. The team is really passionate and knowledgeable about coffee. And the location on the Potomac can’t be beat.

Google
If you’re looking for a great cup of coffee paired with some delicious food this is the spot to go. I have high standards coming from NYC but this coffee shop was a pleasant surprise. We initially came for the coffee and pour over and ended up getting the breakfast burrito as well, definitely recommend if you’re looking for best of both worlds coffee and food wise.

Google
Food is a HARD NO. Do not waste your 17 / 20 bucks on food here. Coffee is just okay. They won’t heat up your pastries……

Google
Great roasts (done on-site - you can see their equipment when you walk in), bean selection, barista knowledge, and location. I particularly like their selection of pour over options, and their outdoor area (underneath the freeway, but hey). There's also an interesting selection of Japanese tea. Clearly a coffee shop that cares about their quality.

Google
Considering that the coffee scene in DC isn’t exactly top-tier, my expectations weren’t that high to begin with. Still, serving a V60/pour-over in a paper cup when you’re drinking in feels like a crime to any real coffee lover and not to mention it’s not very sustainable. The coffee itself was pretty average, but I did enjoy the lemonade! The location is cute.

Google
This shop has not only the perfect view, but the perfect staff and Coffee! Besides, the fact that they roast their coffee and house within view, this place is aesthetically pleasing, and has quality drinks. Whenever I’m on this side of town, I most definitely will pop in. Thank you so much for such a hospitable visit!

Google
Great coffee and nice location across from Potomac river promenade. The baristas excel in perfecting their art. The coffee was extracted exactly right. We came everyday to get our daily coffee dose during our weekend trip to Dc

Yelp
Did I just stumble across the best breakfast burrito in DC?!? I think so. I've been on the hunt for the past 2 years looking for a spot and have been disappointed every single time. After running with friends we popped into Grace Street for coffee and I was excited to see that they had burritos too (from Monstera burritos). The menu didn't have just 1, it had 6 different options. I tried the 'Sun Up' burrito that has eggs, cheese, fries, peppers, onions, pinto beans and salsa. The price was a little on the higher side, but that's to be expected in Georgetown. The burrito was a great size though. I was able to eat some for breakfast and then some for later on. The tortilla tasted fresh as well as the ingredients inside. I like that they add fries into the burrito opposed to potatoes. The fries add a little bit more texture. I'll definitely be back to try another breakfast burrito in the future! And I'm waiting for the day that they are on Ubereats or Doordash so that I can enjoy after a night out. Check them out

Yelp
Hot damn. I am not a morning person, but this burrito of my dreams? It'll launch me out of bed at dawn like I've been training for it. Big workday ahead and need fuel? Monstera. Hungover and in desperate need of resurrection? Monstera. Craving an instant dopamine blast wrapped in a tortilla? MONSTERA. The green sauce is straight-up addictive, and I still can't decide if the barbacoa or the bacon is my fave. I'm not even a big bacon gal, but this succulent crispy treat has me ready to betray my arteries. This gem is perched right off the C&O bike trail, so whether you're powering up before the ride or crawling back in need of replenishment, this spot is the perfect stop.

Yelp
This place was not good... I went here because an influencer posted it and that video was viral viral. My burrito was so bland. I just had Taqueria Los Perez, a true Mexican establishment in DC, and Monstera did not compare. It just does not makes sense for me to come back here. The owner Alex McCoy hates on influencers yet he uses them to blow up his new spots. PR companies need to stop using these influencers to advertise for high end chefs who don't even respect them... it's very very hypocritical.

Yelp
best breakfast burrito in DC! I got the beef and the fries inside the burrito are incredible!

Yelp
It's extremely busy when I visited, but it's well worth the wait. We got breakfast burritos and they were amazing. Good to huge portions and such yummy flavor. The peppers in the Santa Barbara burrito were spicy and gave the food a good kick. The Salsa Verde also had a bit of a spicy kick, but equally delicious. My Breakfast Boi burrito with bacon was perfect. Bacon was crispy, crunchy and the mixture of ingredients were delightful. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the Galvanina, a sparkling Clementine drink. Stop by this spot, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Inside Grace Street Coffee in Georgetown is Monstera serving breakfast burritos. On my way to a meeting nearby, I picked up the Breakfast Boi with barbacoa. The burrito is very filling and comes with French fries inside. It was good, but the smoked salsa verde that it comes with it really made the burrito. Grab napkins as it's messy to eat!

Yelp
Big breakfast burrito in Grace Street Coffee. I got the bacon filling. It was pretty good. It comes with a smoked sauce that has a good flavor.

Yelp
Stellar breakfast burritos AND tacos. First, the Breakfast Boi, which is great with barbacoa and chorizo. Loaded up lots of ingredients, including fries and salsa, this will keep your stomach full through the morning. Good breakfast fuel with a cup of Grace Street coffee. It's a bit up there in price for a burrito ($16), but I got two meals out of it. Don't forget about the tacos! A trio based on your choice of meat/eggplant will also keep you filled up because they are individually just as stuffed as the burritos. I was really happy with my choices for filling - chorizo, eggplant, and barbacoa. The chorizo had plenty of juices, so some of that leaked out of the taco. This is best enjoyed at a table. Honestly, the step seating on the side wasn't helpful and that was the only option when I went for tacos since Grace Street is so busy and filled with people studying or chatting there on the weekends. The staff does a good job of keeping up with the drink and food orders.

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast burritos, or burritos in general. Came here from word of mouth and it lived up to the hype

Yelp
After a night out drinking, woke up craving a breakfast burrito... and Monstera's barbacoa breakfast burrito satisfied my craving! It was large, messy and filled with many ingredients, which kept it interesting. Fav parts were the melty cheese, big pieces of tender barbacoa, sweet caramelized onions and peppers, and the super soft flour tortilla. Loved the salsa that came with too - perfectly sweet and spicy. Check em out if you're ever in need of a good bfast burrito!

Yelp
FROWN. Somehow this was the soggiest burrito I have ever consumed. No variation in texture, no density, just fluff. I walked an hour to get this burrito and was sorely disappointed. And for $23 with tip? Insanity. If you have mediocre cooking skills, crispy hash browns, cheddar cheese, eggs, bacon, and some paprika at home, you can surely whip yourself up a better burrito (and even freeze some for later). The three stars are mostly for the location's view of the Potomac.

Yelp
solid breakfast, large burritos stuffed with ingredients. they were out of the crunchy boi but tried the regular burrito with chorizo and with barbacoa (barbacoa was the easy favorite). burritos are tasty, the salsa is on the sweet end almost like a bbq sauce fusion (also tasty), wish the ingredients inside burrito were better dispersed but other than that they're a great and filling breakfast.

Yelp
Super big and yummy burrito, pretty expensive but definitely worth it. Inside of a coffee shop with a nice open ambiance and good service

Yelp
One of the most delicious burritos I have ever had in my life... was a bit wary paying $16 for a burrito however worth every dollar. Will be back to try the breakfast burrito

Esther K.

Yelp
Very Disappointed. It took 45 minutes to make a burrito...and we came in the afternoon, when it wasn't that busy.

Julia B.

Yelp
Incredible breakfast burrito, super tasty but all the ingredients were balanced so it didn't just taste like straight egg, would get again
