The smells of this place when you walk should be captured in a candle or something! I enjoyed the nice warm welcome I had when I entered the cafe. It was my first time here. I had ordered a boudin king cake prior for pick up; orders must be placed in advance. I had paid prior too, so it was super easy. I walked in, was greeted, got my cake and left.
The space is pretty big and could be good for groups. It looks like counter service as well, so separate checks would be easy too. There is parking off street outside and you are next door to Creole Creamery which is pretty amazing.
I tried the boudin king cake when I was home. I didn't know whether it was cooked or not, I assume it was, but wish I had some instructions or had the nice lady behind the counter let know some cooking instructions. But regardless, I heated the oven up to 400 and heated it up for about 10 or minutes. I tasted it and that bread was so freaking flaky and good. It basically melted in my mouth. I loved the bacon pieces sprinkled all over. There is a tiny container of syrup that is included if you wanna pour that on your king cake. I did taste a little before pouring it on and it had a spicy sweet flavor to it. So, I poured a little on a slice and I didn't exactly love it, so I just ate the cake as is. The crackling on top, that they call it, is not cracking. That is pork rines. True crackling is fried, cubed bacon fat which is the most calorific, heart attack pushing, delicious thing you will put in your mouth. I ate one of the pork rines and didn't care for it.
Overall, I did really enjoy that boudin. I don't know where the boudin came from or if they make it in house, but it was damn good and i am a boudin snob from living in Cajun Country for a while.
I will be back, it's a super nice bakery.
