14 Mouth-Numbing Sichuan Restaurants in NYC | Eater NY

"Five years ago it was the foremost Sichuan restaurant in Little Neck, Queens, home to many Asian restaurants, and then in 2018, it picked up and moved to the Manhattan Valley on the Upper West Side. Sour string beans with minced pork, Chengdu green bean noodles, ma po tofu, cumin lamb, and Chongqing stew chicken remained among its menu highlights, now with some Hunan thrown in, but there were some new things, too, like the relentlessly spicy “burning noodles.”" - Robert Sietsema

NYC Chinese Food Delivery: Restaurants Still Open During Coronavirus | Eater NY

"The owner hails from Beijing, and the menu reflects the cosmopolitan mix of dishes to be found in the Chinese capital. It started out in Little Neck, Queens, near the Long Island border, then established itself on the Upper West Side, where there are perhaps a dozen forward looking Chinese restaurants. Burning noodle is one standout dish, and so are kimchi fried rice, beef with long hot pepper, and eggplant with potato. Order online for pickup or delivery." - Robert Sietsema

19 Addictive Spicy Noodles in NYC | Eater NY

"This Sichuan outpost just over the Queens line offers Sichuan favorites. But for something really incendiary, order the Yibin burning noodles, named for a small city in southeastern Sichuan. Found on the restaurant’s separate brunch menu, noodles come gobbed with sweet soy sauce, red chile flakes, and Sichuan peppercorns, which leaves diners gasping and reaching for water. In addition to a little ground pork it also contains Sichuan peppercorns, ground chile, soy sauce, scallions, sesame seeds, and peanuts." - Eater Staff

Google
Cozy, classic American pub style food with an upscale touch! They do weddings here to there’s more formal dining available I assume.

We had a pretty nice experience here for Valentine’s Day. The hotel next door was beautiful — and the restaurant had a cozy, rustic feel that we really liked. When we arrived, we waited a while without being acknowledged and were standing in the narrow entrance for a while. During that time, the manager reprimanded the young hostesses in front of us which made us a bit uncomfortable. Once we were seated the night improved. Our waiter was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the drinks were excellent — definitely the highlight. The food, though, wasn’t great. The noodles we ordered were soggy and lacked flavor, which was disappointing given the setting. Overall, we still had a good time thanks to the atmosphere and table service. Unfortunately, due to the sub-par food and somewhat unprofessional interactions (or lack thereof), it didn’t quite live up to what we hoped for. We’d still come back for a second try, maybe on a less busy day.

Google
Really nice building and the food/drinks were good! Service was just alright, my brother got asked 4x to show his ID even though he was a groomsman…just seemed a bit unprofessional if you ask me given the amount you pay for weddings here. Even more upsetting was the changing room upstairs before the wedding had drinks that were all half used…you would think it would be fully stocked… the print outs for menus misspelled the brides name….and lastly the breakfast in the morning was just alright

We had a wonderful experience at Grain House! The historic charm of the space adds so much character, and the service was warm and attentive. The menu had a great mix of classic and creative options—everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. It’s a cozy spot for a relaxed lunch or a special dinner. Highly recommend if you’re in the Basking Ridge area!

Google
Placeholder 3 star, what looks like a promising beef rib was overdone and dry like a bad pot roast. The other plates around me looked solid, would give them another chance to raise the rating.

This is just a beautiful place to have a wedding! We have shot so many weddings over the years and we love working here! Food and atmosphere is great. There are so many areas to take photos and it definitely makes our job easier, lol! Cannot wait to work here again.

Google
Great easter day brunch at this place. I have been to this place couple of time. We had prefixed easter menu and it was amazing. All 4 courses were decent enough and entrees are significantly larger. I wish entrees could have been more flavorful. Our family had great family time with quality of food. Servers were amazing, polite and patience. Hence I am vegetarian, they were very accommodating about it. They were constantly checking in us about how are we liking it. Its an amazing historical building and one of the nicer family restaurants.

Google
Excellent service from Matt ! We went as a party of 4 adults and 2 young children with prior reservations. Beautiful and quaint restaurant, great food, and lots and lots of options. Sometimes it does get busy so please reserve in advance. We ordered the classic burger, the chicken and waffles, apple cobbler waffle, veggie burger and items off the kids menu. Everything was great and would certainly visit again!

Yelp
What a charming bit of history. Food and service was very good. It's a shame it far for me (live in Monmouth county) but it made for a lovely early dinner on a Sunday with family!
google avatar

Pete G.

Yelp
So I'm not big on the bad reviews. We went here for an anniversary lunch for my parents. We had reservations and figured it would be a pretty standard lunch. The lunch/brunch menu is really nice. Lots of options and really you could bring kids here. They could find something. It's St. Patrick's Day weekend so they had some specials. Nothing crazy corned beef and cabbage, lamb stew and fish & chips. We all ordered from the straight menu, except my Dad he had the corned beef. Our waitress was lovely. But, the service was extremely slow. By the time the food came, I really wanted to just leave. I had a burger, my son got French Toast, my sister a turkey club and my Mom a corned beef sandwich. Everything was cold. It had been sitting in the window. My son's French toast was really soggy. My burger was bloody and on a stale roll. Nobody ate. Except my Dad. Everyone my sister, son and mother got ice cream then we left. We were there a little over 2 hours for a meal that we should have been there for less than an hour. Again the waitress was nice, but it didn't make up for the experience. I wouldn't go back. Plenty of places like it close by that are better.

Yelp
My first impression was that I liked the ambiance of this old, country-style inn. And the service was deccent. However, I was pretty disappointed by the offerings at their Mother's Day brunch. It was VERY expensive, and then half the menu items they had advertised weren't even there. It was typical buffet food in warmers, not the elegant food advertised on their website. And then weird stuff was missing like you couldn't even get a bagel or some toast. Coconut shrimp? I can get that from the diner or pizza place. The mushroom ravioli in cream sauce were pretty good. But overall, for the specialty brunch, it wasn't worth the money.

Yelp
I recently held a small private event at the Grain House. It was a really great experience. Their event expert Lindsay was wonderful to work with and helped ensure that all preparations were complete. The staff supporting us on the day of the event were great-- they provided excellent service without feeling intrusive. The food was delicious and several of our guests noted how good some of the dishes were. The grain room was the perfect size for our gathering and was accurate to the specifications listed on the website. Some of our guests stayed at the Olde Mill Inn, which they found to be convenient for the event and comfortable.
google avatar

Kirsten K.

Yelp
The Grain House is always a good choice for an upscale lunch. I get the same thing every time --Shrimp BLT--and I enjoy every bite. The salads here are fresh and delicious. They make a nice cappuccino. I make my reservation through the app Open Table and have always been seated right away. I enjoy the historic building and charm of the old wood and stone construction. The interior is classy with formal place settings and cloth napkins. Most diners dress up a little to eat here. Staff is calm, polished, and polite. Parking is free in a big lot. The outside patio is pleasant too. The restaurant is easy to access right off of Route 287.
google avatar

Yelp
Check your bill carefully. We gave a cash tip and after we left someone added another tip on to the bill. Also the food - and interior - is meh.

Nancy L.

Yelp
i was so excited to be going to a Mother's Day brunch at the Grain House. Our reservation was for 1:15, it was not crowded at all, we were kept waiting at the door for some time. We were seated in a downstairs room, the buffet was two small flights of stairs and a long hallway away. one of our party just had a knee replacement. The food was cold cold the heat source, stern-o had not been replaced , the servers were weary and cranky. The buffet was not maintained properly. The deserts on the other hand were divine. At 90- per person, should have been better. So disappointed! Perhaps dinner is better, cannot recommend brunch at all.

Yelp
Went for NYE. Our table had the bacon wrapped short rib app, lollipop wings, lobster bisque, land & sea entree special, and a classic cheeseburger. We paired all of this with a glass of the sonoma pinot noir. Lobster bisque was okay. The crab meat on the "land & sea" special was drenched in salt and a bit fishy. But the steak was cooked to perfection. Wish it came with a side salad or a bit more asparagus. For dessert we had a slice of the chocolate cake, the flan, & a cappuccino. Our two servers + the manager on duty (Tony) were awesome. Extremely attentive, but also let us "be". We loved the ambiance and fireplace. The restaurant itself was not too loud and we could actually talk and enjoy. Cannot wait to come back!
google avatar

Michele L.

Yelp
Slow service. We were there with our newborn twins and toddler, so waiting over an hour for our food kind of made the experience unenjoyable. Overpriced for diner quality food.

Yelp
Grain House is a restaurant in a hotel in Basking Ridge. The hotel, Olde Mill Inn, has an exceptional reputation as a wedding site. I went to a Thanksgiving buffet with my family. The quality and variety of food options were excellent. Food was fresh and quickly replenished. Had something for everyone. Service at tables was prompt and accurate, both providing drinks and having the tables cleared. The decoration is Colonial, but lacks the charm of the adjacent building, which has a horse outside, which is smaller and George Washington did really stay there. Food is the same, ambiance better.

Stephen C.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for brunch, and immediately were taken by the atmosphere inside and out; very quaint and colonial. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and accessible, nothing too highbrow. The dress code seemed to be casual neat. We're looking forward to coming back for dinner and sitting inside although the patio was wonderful.

Yelp
I have tried both their lunch and dinner menus. Some of the items I enjoyed: * East Coast Calamari * Red Lentil Soup * Goffle Farm Chicken Panini * Steak Tips * Yukon Potato Gratin * Key Lime Curd Things that were not good (1 star off): * Ribeye Spring Rolls (the Cheddar cheese in spring rolls was weird) * Health Bowl (dressing was tasteless) I came here with a large group. The restaurant is in a very old building with creaky floors, uneven floors, low ceilings, and odd shaped doors. However, the private room we were in (Grain Room) was quite cute with a fireplace. The table was set up like a wedding banquet. The staff was attentive, and the food came out quickly. The bathroom was located in a confusing area; when you finish your business, you don't know how to get back to your table, even the staff acknowledged this odd placement issue.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere here. Real fire place. Feels like you've stepped back in time to a 1700s pub (which is what it is). Food is pretty good too. Good Caesar salad, def want to try a burger from here. Wife said it was good. The pork chop was quite good. The lamb was good too but seemed like it was missing a bit of flavor. The draft beer list is pretty decent too. Things like Kane on tap.
google avatar

Laurie B.

Yelp
As always food is outstanding. Service was horrible!! This is the second time in a row we have had poor service in the pub in the afternoon. Took forever for someone to ask about drinks. Finally someone came and took our orders. Long wait for food. Never saw our server again and asked a random server walking by for drink refills. Then another long wait for the check.

Ron M.

Yelp
Old rustic atmosphere from the 1700's. Good friendly servers. Food was very good. Ordered turkey club and veggie burger. Which was really good. For dessert got their signature personal apple pie with ice cream. Which was excellent. Prices are in line with the times. Really nice place.

Yelp
Celebrated with a friend her last day at work on December20.2024- lunch at Grain House. We had no reservations and there was nothing available. Diana went out of her way to find us a place at the bar. Thank You. The food - Octoberfest beer, French onion soup, Goat cheese salad, dessert & coffee - was delicious. The fireplace soo inviting. The perfect way to end a meaningful chapter & begin a new one. Not to mention the Christmas decor was beautiful.

Yelp
We were here a few weeks ago for a birthday celebration for my pop. The room we were in was off the deck and it was cozy and perfectly set up for our party of close to 40. The staff was accommodating but hard to find. The food was delicious and staff knew who had each entree without the need to auction off the food. Yay for that. :-) the bloody Mary's were full of every garnish your heart desires...I LOVE that. It makes a big difference. I would definitely recommend this place for large gatherings or celebrations.

Pammie P.

Yelp
Came here with the family to celebrate a birthday. Service was wonderful, the food very good. I brought in a homemade cake that the kitchen cut and served for a small fee per person. The rib eye spring rolls I ordered for the table were a hit!

Yelp
EDIT: Review updated to 4 stars from 1. As upset as I was about the treatment from this bar, Glen's message went above and beyond to resolve the issue. As a customer, I feel heard, which is incredibly rare after a bad experience with a restaurant. The bartender's behavior is still absolutely inexcusable, but hopefully Dave can learn from this experience and do better in the future. Glen, your message is greatly appreciated, thank you. TLDR: Do you like anti-semetic jokes and a bartender who says creepy stuff to your girlfriend? If so, this is the bar for you! I came to this bar for a wedding. It's close to the Inn we're all staying at and figured it would make sense to have a drink and relax before the reception the following day. I was wrong. The bartender, Dave, was heinously inappropriate to my girlfriend, multiple times. My girlfriend is quite literally on the verge of tears in our room while I am writing this. Dave, the bartender addressed her as "hey sexy" on two different occasions. He felt the need to say things like "oh she's backkkkkk" and "there she isssss" when she came back from the bathroom and didn't even get close to ordering a drink. Dave felt the need to tell me to "break the stereotype and tip double" after finding out I was Jewish. He additionally asked for my girlfriend's Mother's number in a weird "I'm just joking manner" after finding out her age and telling us "she sounds like a total catch, I'm game." In what world is this appropriate?? I want to be very clear about the fact that I could hear everything being said to every other patron in the bar due to my proximately. He addressed everyone else as "ma'am" and "sir" and never said anything even remotely creepy. I had three friends there, one who is being married tomorrow, and they are all equally appalled as well. Absolutely disgusting behavior from the bartender Dave. I'd like to add on that after finding out all of this, I declined to tip, a first in my entire life. I was encouraged to do so by both my girlfriend and my friends since we didn't have any cocktails, only beers, wine and whiskey. After the treatment we recieved, it seemed justified. Bartender Dave reacted by storming out of the establishing and screaming "HOPE YOU HAVE A NICE NIGHT!!" before slamming the door shut. Stay very far away from this bar and grill. At least, until they get rid of this absolute lunatic of a bartender.

Yelp
Okay, we ate here in 3/19/24. first time. Will not be the Last time either. Place is very Nice and Cozy inside. (the area with the Fireplace and bar) clientele was a mix of Young and older types. with no Riff-Raff!! which was great. So many people blasting their phones with videos etc. its Disgusting!! The service was Excellent! The Food was Very tasty and fresh. cooked just right too. We Split the Ceaser salad. which was not your typical Ceaser. still Good though. I had the Special "Artic Char" Which was Delicious! my friend had the "Berkshire Pork chop" which she said was also delicious!! we also had desert. something Chocolaty. I forget what it was. I never have Desert. this one was Very Good!! If you haven't been here. do yourself a Favor and Go. you will not be disappointed!! I gave it four stars instead of Five. only because the menu only has one pasta dish. otherwise, I would have given five stars.

Yelp
We made reservations in advance for dinner. We were so warmly greeted upon entry and during our entire dining experience! Fantastic hostess /waitresses. The food was so delicious I had the sautéed sesame Rock BASS and for dessert a hot apple pie. The food was so delicious and so amazing and so flavorful. I love my fish and my pie. I highly recommend it. The pie was freshly made . Even the Icecream on the side was epic. I would definitely come back to this restaurant. and it's historical! Enjoy walking around and see the amazing old building that has historical George Washington -significance..-

Gail L.

Yelp
We had a lovely meal outside . It was a great night of pleasant weather , friends and good food. We had the salmon , grain salad with salmon, grouper and Caesar salad with shrimp. Everyone was happy with their choices. Dessert was good. I thought cake was good not great. Service very attentive. Ambiance is very friendly and inviting .

C G.

Yelp
Good food. Pleasant service and wonderful environment. The grounds are lovely and you feel like you're having lunch in a revolutionary pub

Stephanie H.

Yelp
I made a reservation for this past Friday Dec 13 2024 for the Pub. We were seated in the main dinning room. even though there were tables available in the Pub. The service was poor. It was soooo loud with kids running around that we couldn't even hear each other. Ambiance...there was NONE! Very disappointed after going there for years. Not sure I will ever go back! I had to write a review Stephanie H.

Yelp
LOVE the historic feel. The low ceilings, the fireplaces, the old windows. Love love love it. Even the bathroom has charm - curtains, a powder room mirror, and carpeting. It even smells old...but in a good way. Almost like a museum restaurant. Sat outside today for a Sunday brunch. They have an excellent brunch menu - something for everyone! They also have fun cocktails: mimosas, espresso martinis, and I also saw some watermelon martini with a slice of watermelon on the brim. This is an underrated location for sure. Had French onion soup and a caesar salad - both we excellent. The soup came in a very cute "cauldron"-like bowl. Service is quick and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. My only complaint is about the bugs. So. Many. Bugs. Okay- I know we are sitting outside in a garden on a patio in the summer- but there were ants, flies, and small bugs everywhere. All over the table. I kept needing to slap my arm or take a bug out of my friend's hair. If they could control the bugs...it would be a lot more enjoyable.

Yelp
What a lovely place! It's a converted grain mill with original beams. The fireplace is huge, with beautiful oak paneling. Our server was attentive, and we got our meals quickly. The filet mignon was a little undercooked considering my order, but not enough to send it back. The asparagus had a nice char, and the scalloped potato had good potato flavor, not drowning in cheese and cream. The meatloaf was made of very finely ground meat, so it was pretty soft. The cauliflower was cooked well, and the potato croquette was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. For dessert we shared the lemon curd with sliced strawberries and crispy phyllo. It was deliciously tart/sweet. We enjoyed our experienced very much!

Yelp
I haven't been here in probably 10 years but took my wife here for lunch today. We both had French Onion Soups which were excellent and we split a Pilgrim Panini which had turkey, stuffing, cranberry mayo and cheddar cheese on Multigrain bread. It was so good and something different for a change. Plus the service was excellent and the atmosphere (we sat right in front of the fireplace) was cozy and welcoming! We will be back again soon, I am already craving that sandwich!
google avatar

Mary-Ann B.

Yelp
I've been coming to the Grain House for yrs. Tonight, I ordered two of their delicious Bacon Burgers with fries, to go. As a Jersey girl, I couldn't believe that the Grain House couldn't have included a few packets of ketchup with those $40, "To Go" Burgers and Fries. Right? Where am I? Iowa? Ireland? Iceland? When u go on a secluded picnic, on a gorgeous night, with ur guy who has been roofing ur shack all day, u expect at least a Heinz sachet. Right? This becomes especially disappointing as I specifically asked, while taking the bag out of the gentleman's hand at the restaurant, "Did u put Ketchup in there?" My bad, don't trust anyone. They were skimpy on the fries, but hey, I couldn't choke them down dry, anyway.
google avatar

Yelp
The ambiance couldn't be better on a winter day, first time snowing in 2 years! Very cozy and historic. The food was very good too. We came for brunch but k look forward to returning for dinner when there might be a little more personable service. Our person was ok, but very bare bones, would have been nice to get someone warmer for our first time there. But we hope to be back!

Yelp
Absolutely the worst!! They accept large parties, and they don't have not enough servers to help and when you ask for extra help they give you an attitude!! And say it's there method to only have one server for 2 tables of almost 30 people, It's absolutely shocking and there hostess needs to be in the kitchen, she doesn't have people skills, with her response to me I thought she was getting ready to throw down like I was at the newark McDonald's not at a historical restaurant. They have extremely poor customer service.. I am so disturbed at the way this place runs and the attitude of the staff. The food is not worth the abuse of the staff. I would love for the manager to post on my review!

Nick A.

Yelp
Wife had a Burger bacon Let Tom Onion Fries Onion Rings and a Coffee..Totally Excellent. I look forwards to going back and having one myself. I had Fish & Chips but substituted Mashed Potatoes. Mashed Potatoes were tops. Fish..really.. batter should be much thinner and one extra fish added even if $ must go up. Nice place to visit.

Yelp
No more thanksgiving fix dinner at this place, I don't mind giving good tip regardless of service but when you being charged w tips then the waitres will give shitty service, we had to ask for coffeee when we have a desserts

Yelp
Best service ever thank you Nathan!! Food fantastic too!! Fire place and ambience perfect for date night!!

Yelp
Came here today with my brunch meetup group and our reservation was lost. The hostess and manger were thankfully able to accommodate us after a little wait. The restaurant was filled and they were turning people away without reservations. Our hostess had made ours a month ago but somehow it was lost. After we were seated our server greeted us and took our order right away. Our food came out promptly and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. My seasonal salad was quite tasty with the fried goat cheeee. It totally made the salad. The ladies salmon looked really good as well as the burger and panini. I'll definitely be back as we were accommodated so nicely.
google avatar

Alice L.

Yelp
The food wasn't very good and the restaurant smelled awful, like the carpet was old and dirty. I really wish I could have given a good review as it's historical and has such potential.
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
All the waitress staff were rude nasty. Unorganized not sure where the management was. I asked for a beverage and was yelled at and told to wait. I mean I don't mind waiting but she was taking my tables drink orders?!?! Entire waitstaff as well as the lady with the hoodie greeting people as they entered, the nicest and most helpful were the bussers. (That's why they get 1 star) maybe it's time to switch up the staff. I will never ever go back.. I went so you don't have too..
google avatar

Frank J.

Yelp
Grain House is friendly, the food is tasty, and the service is superb. The only thing they need to work on is their wine list. It's almost exclusively American wines and has few French and Italian. That said, what's listed is generally good and excellent value. Among their entrees, the lamb shank is outstanding, the hamburger special is out of this world [Angus beef], and the grilled shrimp is excellent. There are a few waiters that are particularly good: Laura and Justin. It's wise to make a reservation, and when making it ask for these waiters. They are professionals and will really enhance your dining experience.

Yelp
The food was freaking DELICIOUS!!! The staff is so friendly and the service is quick and efficient! The interior, including the beautiful fireplaces, are a total vibe!

Yelp
Allow me to begin by saying, a have a great respect for the building, its history and its potential to be something amazing. I was not going allow Lou M's "crazy-cakes review" to get under my skin, because that dude is cray-cray, but the amount of unsavory reviews had me leery of the reservation I made. Nevertheless, it was date night, and drinks and a meal out is always something to look forward to. I ordered a cocktail, Spring Fling, comprised of Peach/orange vodka and soda water. Clean and simple. It came in a highball glass. It tasted like...soda water. It should have come in a rocks glass. A highball was too big and caused the drink to be 1% spirit, 99% water. I sent it back for a glass for Chardonnay. Realized at that point, our waiter was also our bartender. I felt bad I had insulted him. Appetizers: my husband got the Caesar salad, me, having to be gluten free, ordered the Mini Taro Chip Tacos. They were mini and adorable. From the description, I expected, you know, tacos. In reality, these tacos were void of any and all flavor. They were the blandest tacos I've ever experienced in my life. They included, pulled chicken, garden vegetables, queso fresco, avocado, cilantro. Tasted nothing. Husband gave them a try and was confused by the lack of flavor, but at least I wasn't crazy. That's ok, weird, but onward. Entrees are coming. Husband ordered the hanger steak, I ordered the grouper. Blackened Grouper with succatash and key lime butter blanc was ok. I tasted something. The seasoning on the grouper was ok, cooked nicely, veggies were buttery, no key lime hint, but it was fine. My husbands hanger steak was completely de-void of flavor. Like, how??? It tasted like, nothing. During this time, our original waiter didn't return. The staff that bussed tables were kicking it into high gear. We were not offered a dessert menu, but when a waitress came by to check on us we just asked for the check. This was not our first time here, but it was definitely our last. It's a shame, because as I started, it has the potential to be great. So now I'm sitting home with a pineapple seltzer with an added shot of lime vodka, tortilla chips and Wegmans Queso. Filling the void of flavor.

Yelp
Had a great time here as it was the venue for my co workers wedding. Firstly as you walk in to the right the bar and restuarant is there which is very cozy with with an old fashioned look. I like the dim lighting and fire place which makes it intimate and appreciated the lack of music so common now in places making it hard to talk to your company. The bartenders and waitstaff were friendly though we only drank at the bar. The Wedding, reception and cocktail hour were all excellent though. It was very efficient how during the cocktail hour they converted the hall where the wedding took place to the dining area very quickly. The catered hourderves were terrific, some of it included herb mac n cheese, seared tuna on cucumber and pulled pork sliders. The fillet of beef entree was delicious and the other fare was nice too. The catering team were all great and can see why this place is set up in conjunction with The Olde Mill for weddings. Not sure how much it all goes for price wise but this was a fun, nice looking venue for a wedding or otherwise if they offer it.

Yelp
Very family friendly place with amazing service. The staff was friendly to the adults as well as the kids. They have vegetarian options. The food was delicious! I had the quesadilla. I ate it fast because it wasn't going to taste as good cold. The waffles were basic, but the berries were delicious. The avocado was good. This is a great spot for a family or a date. Next time I go, I will get the burger!

Yelp
If you want to dine in a beautiful, old, and historic restaurant, look no further. This one has lots of character and charm. There was a beautiful large wood burning fireplace in the front of the dining room. We were very happily greeted upon entry by the host. We had reservations for 4 on a Sunday evening. Glad we did because the dining area filled up quickly. We began our meals with the edamame and the East Coast calamari. The calamari was very tasty and it included some zucchini which was different but nice. The edamame should have been grilled much more. We've had much better. Our main dishes included the veggie burger, two orders of the classic angus beef burger, and the grain house salad. In between the apps and the main dishes we waited much to long. All of the burgers were cooked to order and tasty. They held up very well in the brioche roll. The sweet potato fries were bland and didn't appear to have any seasoning. The grain house salad was a big hit and the portion was generous. As coffee snobs, we all thought the coffee was very good. The service was very good and friendly. Our waitress covered the entire dining room and she did an amazing job. Nobody was complaining There was a large private lot for parking. The prices were very reasonable for burgers and salads. Nice dining experience with great ambiance.

Yelp
We had high hopes going into this restaurant and outside of its charming Revolutionary Era decor there is much to be desired. The service was a little on the slow side but not incompetent, average. The food was just lackluster with nothing really standing out. Our dinners were good but nothing we couldn't have gotten at a diner. Overall nice but you can't put lipstick on a pig.

Yelp
Really loved this cozy spot! We sat right next to the fireplace. The hostess was very accommodating with our situation in reservation which is an added bonus for sure. The food was yummy as well! The pastry basket hit the spot as an app. The avocado toast was petite but had some big flavors. And the banana appetizer was interesting and definitely worth a try. My favorite dish was the ham and cheese quiche. It was soft and fluffy and super flavorful. The breakfast quesadilla was great as well and the apple cobbler crumble waffle was the perfect fall breakfast. Highly recommend this place! The only thing I didn't like is the staff asking every few minutes if they can take your plate when you're clearly still sitting and picking.

Yelp
First time my girlfriends and I came here for dinner. They walked us through the restaurant to get to the tables outside. The restaurant was so cute and quaint! Definitely many seating options that were spaced out which made us feel comfortable with the pandemic going on. I got the clean margarita which was good, but was smaller in size and had a lot of ice. We were very happy with our food. The avocado toast was awesome. We had the burger and summer salads which were very refreshing. Have to say we were slightly disappointed in our service. Our waiter seemed like he was in a rush to get out of there. We didn't get much time to look at the menu but it was fine we ordered when he asked. We also overheard him mentioning specials to another table nearby. He didn't even tell us about specials. His personality just came off like he couldn't be bothered. We were brought a soda by Laura who was so friendly and and warm in the one minute she spoke with us. We will be back again but we would prefer a friendlier server like Laura.

Yelp
We were passing through and stopped here in a whim and we are lucky we did. Worth stopping in just for the history of the place and well preserved interior but the food and service was excellent. We chose from the sunday brunch menu. I had the waffle apple cobbler...awesome. Son had fine choc chip pancakes. Applewood smoked bacon was great. The side of scrambled eggs was done to perfection. Wife's cobb salad was very good.

Yelp
Grain House was food where I needed, when I needed. Although rain was threatening, they were seating indoors with a wait or outdoors with no wait, so we went outdoors. Tables were covered with umbrellas and we never got wet even after the rain came, although I don't think the waitress really wanted us to stay outside at that point... sorry! I will be honest, the food was not the focal point of my visit so I do not have a great memory of what I ordered. I think we split a dessert but I do not recall what it was. Sadness. I really appreciate the local ingredients and overall the food was a hit. This is a nice upscale place at a relatively moderate price point, worth revisiting at some point when I can give it the attention it deserves.

Yelp
We drive by this place every day, it looks like a quaint, rustic restaurant. The ambience was lovely and there was a fire in the fireplace. Although the restaurant looked nice, my fiancé and I were both thoroughly disappointed with the food. We went for Saturday Brunch. We ordered the breakfast flatbread (cheddar, ham, mushroom, egg, and onion jam), short rib hash, and egg white frittata. The flatbread had orange marmalade, NOT onion jam and was incredibly sweet. When I mentioned it to the waiter, they explained that it was indeed marmalade. The kitchen staff had a different menu than the patrons- ummmm what? They did remove this from the bill for us. The short rib hash was entirely disappointing. The meat and potatoes were ice cold though the egg was fresh. The "short rib" tasted and had the consistency more of canned meat to put in a slow cooker. We ate only the egg and the waiter completely ignored the fact that he took two plates still full of food off the table and we did NOT want to take any of it home. The egg white frittata was fine. Edible, cooked, though not very flavorful. We could only eat the inside portion cause the edge was overcooked. We will not be going back for brunch again. Maybe the buffet on Sunday is better.

Yelp
Healthy menu options. Nice staff. Quick service. Easy to find with a lot of parking. I would go back.
