I've been craving good Salvadorean food since I lived there may years ago - this place is excellent. I had pupusas with curtido, yuca frita and a big glass of delicious tamarindo, for $22. I wish I lived next door - it's that good.

Really enjoyed my meal here. The staff was extremely helping and accommodating. The pupusas, repollo, and tomato sauce were perfect. I'd also recommend getting the chicken tamales. The corn tamales tasted a little off and the texture wasn't great, in my opinion.

I really enjoy eating at Gran Villa the food is great it reminds me of El Salvador when I was growing up,this place makes delicious pupusas, soups are excellent especially the beef and vegetables soup. My family like to go there for the variety of food. You also get the best customer service, staff is excellent.

EL SALVADOR 🇸🇻 Eat the World NYC review: Sometimes a human being just needs a quick pupusa fix. Luckily the place closest to me is very good at making them, and quite a bit of other Salvadoran dishes. A recent return visit also found the hearty soups to be worth exploring, full of chayote and warmth perfect any time of year. ° The restaurant also has a full line of American breakfasts and sandwiches, which brings in a lot of the surrounding blue collar workers that are not yet ready to make the switch to tasty Salvadoran breakfasts and pupusas like many of the families sitting at the tables. ° Oh, and a quick P.S.A.: Don't eat pupusas with a fork and knife you animal!

As a Salvadoran it is difficult to find places with authentic and delicious food. Walked in here on a whim and was greeted with a smile. Place was clean. So many food options but had to go for the típico and pupusas and I was not disappointed! Stayed after to talk to the owner and his wife and they were the sweetest people! Would highly recommend! And plan on coming back!

Good portions , good prices, tasty, unfortunately no beer. Proper glasses and dishes ( no disposables) were a delight.

Stopped by today to dine in with my mom and I just had to leave a review. The food was absolutely amazing, everything was fresh and super tasty. The service was incredible, I loved everything. And let me also say that everything in the restaurant was SPOTLESS. I don’t think I’ve seen a cleaner restaurant. 10/10

As a vegetarian, I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. I asked about manteca (lard) in the beans, and the staff took it upon themselves to assure me that there was no pork, no beef products in any of the non-meat dishes. They were so kind and understanding, and made great suggestions for vegetarian items. We took a bunch of pupusas, with spinach, loroco (edible flower), beans and mushroom, all with cheese as well. It doesn't say on the menu, but the $3.50 per pupusa actually includes sauce and coleslaw (that's why there's a two pupusas minimum). There's also guacamole, rice, plantains... everything made to order and quite fast. Pay cash or card. Order to go or stay here. There's a TV but the volume is low enough to talk over it. Restroom in the back.

This is a nice place to come and eat. I had come around 12:30pm and was hoping to get a breakfast sandwich as it was on the menu with no time frame for breakfast. Unfortunately they couldn't serve breakfast as it was the afternoon. I got the alfredo fettuccine with chicken. The alfredo was so bland and milky but the pasta was cooked well and the chicken was flavorful. My party also ordered some pupusas which is their specialty. If you come here i would recommend it. I also got an horchata but it wasnt to my liking. It tasted very sweet and grainy. The servixe was quick and she was nice to explain what they had available. The place was half full but not loud. They were getting lots of to-go orders so they were pretty busy.

The service here was amazing and the food was delicious. The environment of the place was also really good and calm it was a good ambience to eat in . The pupusas are just right especially with the salad and the tomato sauce . 10/10 would recommend.

I love the hospitality of this shop. They let me sample their chicken tamale and that was such a kind gesture while waiting for my pupusas. It was a good tamale too which strong masa flavor and on the softer/wetter side of the masa. I also ordered from their hot spread. Got their pork chop with yellow rice, didn't want stream veggies or plantain so I got pasta on the side with refried beans. Their refried beans are a bit different, a bit of a smoky flavor to it. I thought the lunch itself was ok, as the pork chops were a bit dry. The star of the show was definitely the pupusas. There are many flavors on the menu and I think it was top notch delicious. Ordered the mushroom with cheese, and pork and cheese and the fillings were more than most places. The texture of the cheese reminds me of cheese curds from Canada which has the squeaky feel to it. The mushroom flavors were balanced with the cheese. The pork and cheese flavor were balanced. Adding the pickle and sauce only enhanced it even more. There are many tables in the restaurant for you to enjoy your food. I staffs and owner are also very kind and friendly. Go here whenever you have pupusa craving.

Very close to rating this place a 5 but the chicken was a major let down to justify that rating . The baked chicken had no flavor beneath the surface and tasted very under seasoned . I couldn't stomach it . I ended up replacing it with some frozen chicken from my freezer . Everything else on my plate , from the cheese papusas to the yellow rice and beans and fried plantains were excellent ! I even sampled their beef when I ordered and it was excellent ! On a second occasion , I got their meatloaf . I'm certainly no fan of meatloaf , but I can be fair and tell you all that it didn't taste bad but just simply was not my cup of tea . The restaurant has a very homey feel and service has been great on both occasions . If they can improve their chicken options including the quality of their chicken papusas , I'd rate it a 5 . As it stands , it's a weak 4 .

Today I asked my bf to stop by and check out the food as he was walking by (I'm Salvadorean) so I figured it would be a good spot to try. The food on the counter looked great, however the service was not. I was on the phone getting the options spoken to me to decide what to get. We were asking questions about prices since we have never been here before and we're trying to get something we would enjoy at a comfortable price. We asked only about 3 questions when the employee behind the counter asked my bf to tell me "Dile que se ponga las pilas" (meaning, tell her to make up her mind). Keep in mind I am making an effort to order over the phone! How impatient! Additionally, when I did choose what to get, my bf recalls him slamming the food onto the Togo plate. As a first time customer, this is not the type of service you want to receive. We tried the chicken lasagna, it's quite good. However, due to the lack of hospitable respect I don't believe we will be returning.

Came here for lunch. The staffs are friendly. The restaurant looks clean. It's a few blocks away from Costco. As soon as you step up to the counter, the staffs tells you the specials of the day. You have a choice of fish, beef stew, baked chicken, white rice or yellow rice, smash beans or lentil beans, and potatoes. There are others items on the menu. We ordered baked chicken with rices n beans, chicken cheese pupusa, and pork n bean pupusa. The chicken looks dry but it was very moist inside. The meat falls of the bone. The chicken cheese pupusa has a nice little spicy to it which makes it every flavorful.

A small yet homey restaurant located few blocks away from Costco. Excellent service, affordable price, generous portion and mouthwatering food are what you can find here. We ordered the following, *Pork, Bean & Cheese Pupusa [$2.75]: 4/5. It came with a bowl of pickled cabbage slaw and tomato puree. It was my first time having pupusas and so I asked my server how to eat. Here is the instruction: Cut the pupusas in pieces or half, put the slaw on top of the pupusa and add some tomato puree on it and then you EAT. It was flavorful and cheesy and definitely a must try *Baked Chicken with Sweet Plantains and Rice [$10.95]: 4/5. Original combo is bean and rice but I asked for sweet plantains. That was probably the best sweet plantains I have ever had. It was sweet, a bit crunchiness outside but soft inside. Baked chicken was cooked well and they gave us generous amount of food The owner is super NICE!! He gave us complimentary Horchata and vegetable.

Love going here on my lunch break from work. He always has a good assortment of foods that really makes indecisive. Had the salmon last time and yummy like everything else. Only thing is I will be leaving my job soon and won't be there like I used to for lunch but hopefully pass by when I have a chance. Great food from this small restaurant everything taste good.

Great food with incredibly kind staff! Popped in here with a friend because I was hungry, and we ordered entirely based off the server's recommendations. Delicious!! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming- feels like you're eating a meal at your friends house! I went for the papusas as those seemed the most popular and it was amazing, especially paired with the crunchy slaw. I tried the pork and bean (which was my favorite) as well as the cheese and jalapeño. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area!

Visited Gran Villa on my mission to find some delicious pupusas and they did not let me down. I ordered 2 frijoles con queso (beans and cheese) pupusas and they were absolutely out of this world! The price was very fair $5.50 for 2 (or 1 for $3). They packaged my order efficiently which I appreciate. They gave a fair portion of the curtido and salsa in separate containers. They accommodated me with forks, spoons and napkins. Also I ordered a side of white rice and beans & I have to say that their white rice is probably the best I ever had. I will be returning and highly recommend them to anyone looking for delicious food cooked with love !

Interesting enough, I read my review from 5 years ago and I can say that my opinion of this place has drastically changed. I love this place. The pupusas are great here but to my surprise, one day I tried something else besides Pupusas. Their baked chicken with casamiento and a side of plátanos maduros and crema will make you a very happy person. The food is delicious. I almost had a heart attack when it was closed for a few months due to the pandemic. Glad they're open once again. Definitely come and enjoy!

I got the $10.95 special, which comes with rice, beans, meat, and soda. The portion was huge. The owner was extremely friendly and bought us a Chicken Cheese Pupusa to try on the house. Super relaxing and hospitable environment.

Came across this place previously and saved it based on reviews. Took a detoured trip to pick up food today and it did NOT disappoint in the least. Picked up a mixed of various papusas (first time trying). Had the cheese, chicken, and beans. Gooey, cheesy perfection. Had some other sides as well. Met who I think was the cook/owner - Extremely nice. Place was clean, well packaged and quick service. I don't write reviews often but this is definitely one to save for a return to try more of their food options.

First time trying this place due to it being highly recommended via word of mouth...Esp. for the pupusas. Being the only Asian in the restaurant, I was worried the staff wouldnt understand me and would only speak Spanish. But to my surprise, not an issue! I observed one waitress serving most of the tables, and two people behind the counter for the hot food selection and the cashier register. There's also a kitchen in the back. I used to work in this area a few years ago but this place wasn't opened yet, otherwise for the $8.95 lunch special (with soda/bottled water) alone, they would have been very popular at my old job. Anyone in this area knows, there isn't much decent eating besides fast food joints and deli stores.... So this place is a gem! And they accept all major credit cards with a $10 minimum. I bought two lunch orders and two desserts just to sample the menu. And also tried the highly recommended pupusas with pernil (pulled pork) and cheese in it. (Which was freshly made on the spot, it came with some spicy Cole slaw like item in a bowl and another bowl of sauce that's tomato based. My companion found it to be savory and a taste of El Salvador, since it's a dish that's within their daily consumption. The lunch orders I got was chicken stew and another chicken dish covered in creamy sauce with mushrooms I think. And the rice came with beans and some veggies. It tasted like a nice home cooked meal, with generous portions that delayed my dinner time lol Personally I found the dine-in portion to be larger than the to-go order, but only by a little. And folks, they make a mean cup of Joe !... The aroma will relax you if you ever get it one on the spot and half and half, and milk was accompanied. They sugar selection was well versed with mutiple options available as well. The flan I ordered is light and sweet, and the texture is very smooth and easily dissolved, kind of like soft tender tofu.... I liked it. The tres leche wasn't the best I've ever had, but it's not bad and def. Better than some others I've tried through out the years and in different neighborhoods. The two can drinks I got, I thought was soda but they're juices...With a interested texture, like filtered like water, it's thicker than that, tasted good, just extremely high in sugar...47grams...Like yikes! lol The owner Mr.Luis Lopez was very hospitable, he greeted us like he saw old friends, even though we only had one Salvadoran at the table lol The rest of his staff was also very friendly and made our dinning experience very homey. This is def. A very nice little mom and pop shop kind of restaurant, that covers what you'd get at the local deli as well;..I mean their menu is very versatile lol

Pupusas and the cabbage salad side have been my favorite food lately. I was hungry and looking for a place I could pass on my way home. This place came up and I ordered 2 pupusas just to try it out. Today I went back for more. The pupusas and the salad were amazing. Place is clean and closed inside during COVID. They have a distance cubes on the floor. Great selection of drinks ok the menu. They have a buffet style kitchen with other great Spanish foods on display. Two days in a row and will be back.

Salvadorian restaurant, 1st thing that popped in my head was pupusas and best believe I was coming in. Started with a corn tamale and it's exactly how I remembered it when I was young, You know what they say about them flashbacks when eating food the pupusa are amazing too. Highly recommend, I'll stop by way more often.

Excellent. A caveat: I am not previously familiar with Salvadorian food. But I grew up eating Colombian food and this was both highly reminiscent of and on par with the best Colombian I've had. The pupusas were like big, meat-filled arepas and I loved them. The platano maduro was perfect, not seriously underripe like it is in so many restaurants. The spicy slaw (I can't recall its name unfortunately) was a very nice contrast to the sweetness/saltiness of the other dishes. I enjoyed every bite and look forward to returning.

First, let me apologize for this SUPER LATE review! I visited this restaurant in January and was so busy with work and studying that I hadn't had a chance to write this review. Any way, the food and service was so good that not writing about it has been bothering me. My boyfriend is Salvadorian so we're always looking for the best pupusas in town besides when his mom makes it for us. The pupusas at Gran Villa are so good that we're dying to take his mom to eat there. The cooking here is very authentic. Everything was so flavorful and you can tell it wasn't rushed. The restaurant is very clean and very nice. Not a typical hole in the wall restaurant, although those are he places with the best foods. This place was designed very nice and elegant. My boyfriend felt like he was eating with his family. I'm telling you, if you're looking for great authentic pupusas this is your place! The service here was phenomenal. The staff and owner are very nice people. They really do treat you like family. The owner offered us different dishes just to try on the house! Such a nice guy. Our bill was also really good. I think we paid around $30 for two people but the portions and their services was well worth it. I can't wait to go back.

Whenever we visit New York, we primarily eat Chinese food due to being in Flushing. When we headed to Brooklyn (sunset park)I absolutely wanted to eat something different. I love Salvadoran food, but it's not hubby's fave so I don't get to eat it often though it's quite prevalent in Los Angeles. When you walk in they have steam table hot items for quick carry out or seat yourself and a waitress will help you (menu is already on the tables). There was a steady stream of customers, lots of families and kids having brunch (pancakes, eggs and beans, etc) and lunch items as well. They started us with a complimentary chicken tamal. I also ordered platanos maduros with beans and cream. They use red beans here. Hubby ordered a steak, beans and rice dish. The tomato based sauce and peppers were very flavorful, but I didn't care for their rice being so bland. The pupusas were good! But when we ordered more to go the were very slow. Overall, a chill family dining spot.

Ordered #1: Oxtail, yellow rice, sweet potato and sweet plantain. +can drink. Ordered #2: Porkchop, yellow rice, veggies and sweet plantains. +can drink. This was a nice find near Costco. Good size portions for take out, though was slightly disappointed when I only recieved one pork chop. Flavors was good. Will come back and try their pupusas. Price was decent.

I live around the erea, and the food here is unmatched to any other restaurant in Sunset Park. This is my go to spot for lunch, and those days where you would like to order in Instead of having to cook. Everything is so well seasoned and VERY tasteful. The Salvadoran breakfast, pupusas, lemon chicken and salmon are to die for! Everything I have ever tried is delicious, but those are just some of my favorites. I am a customer for life!

Nicest owner I've met. Let us sample the food before buying takeout. Everything is delicious so the hard part is to restrain yourself to buying too much. I went with the pork ribs platter $9.99. Amazing deal when you compare to $5 slice pizza at industry city a few blocks down.

The food here is fantastic! Super authentic and the service is great. The hospitality was on point. I will definitely be returning. I got the baked chicken with rice and beans but I was eyeing the soup that another customer had and I think I'll try that next. Came in here originally to try the pupusas because we've been looking for one in Brooklyn area and although they weren't the best I've had, they were really tasty!!!

Stopped by this spot for lunch and it was a great experience. You will be treated like a KING! The waiters were very friendly. There is a wide variety of food options from Breakfast to Dinner. Today I had steamed salmon with yellow rice, brown beans and potatoes. The waiter even gave us free sweet plantains (maybe because it was our first time there). Love this place and highly recommend!!

Came here for the second time with my family and everyone agreed this was the perfect meal choice! Food was tasty and made from fresh, quality ingredients. Lots of options to choose from that Sunday for a platter: salmon, ox tail, beef steak, pork chop, and all different styles of chicken (bbq, stew, roast, and grilled). Service is top notch and one of the main reasons I'll come back- everyone is SO nice and extremely accommodating! Prices are low and portions are large, my kind of eatery. Ambiance is casual and low key, perfect for fun conversations! Absolutely give Gran Villa a try if you have the opportunity.

I wanted to try the food here and it was good as I thought. Daily special for $ 7.95 you get the rice, beans, a juice and meat. A few different meat choices. I asked for roasted chicken and a bit of stew steak and they didn't charge me extra. One of my sons wanted French Toast and it was 8:29 Pm, they made it for him gladly. So, all in all, service was great and so was the food. Will be back.

Love this place! Amazing food with great customer service. Their pupusas and tamales are my favorite. Placed an order here today for Father's Day and the owner was nice enough to help me to my car with all my bags. Highly Recommended!!

This is a wonderful place, serviced by wonderful people, serving wonderful food. Pupusas never fail to be high quality accompanied by a generous amount of pickled cabbage and tomato sauce. Even the more marginal menu items like the unexpectedly refreshing lemonade are made with care. The wait staff and owner are super friendly. They never fail to welcome the whole family to the place. On occasion we have even gotten a free sample from their test menu. Deliveries can take a while in peak hours so eating in is a good call. But, hey remember while you are waiting, the finest pupusas in Brooklyn will arrive. Eventually.

I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars bc it's the best pupusas you could get in Brooklyn (at least from what I know). But also because the hospitality is fantastic.

This is closest I get to my moms home cooking. AUTHENTIC SALVADORAN FOOD. Once you go here you won't go back to the others in town. I've been going to gran villa since they open FREQUENTLY. It is an absolute gem in the most unexpected block on 3 red avenue but worth the trip. Pupusas are spot on like my mommas. Even my parents that are not easily impressed and rarely eat Salvadoran cuisine outside of our home go to gran villa at least every week. Their típico plate is delicious. I steer away from their steam table food. Although they serve huge portions I don't like it. If you're in a rush I guess you can give it a shot. The staff is friendly and patient. Try the marañon juice it's my favorite. For anyone claiming solber or other pupusa joints are better they are lying I SWEAR. Take it from a pupusera and someone who frequently visits the motherland. This review is for vegan and vegetarian people. Very cheap prices and great service. Unfortunately not many options for vegetarians or especially vegans. I got the jalepeno, bean, and cheese papusas and sweet fried plantains. These tasted good if you are in the mood for some comfort food. However they are also oily/greasy if that matters. Would give it more stars but not great for vegetarian and vegan options.

Finding salvadorean food is really hard in Brooklyn so I came to this spot and ordered Tamales de Pollo and takeout of Rice, frijoles liquado, and meat. First of all the tamales were horrible. They tasted like they were days old and didn't have a good taste. The frijoles didn't have any flavor either, like they needed to add more salt to it or something and ultimately it was expensive. I am very very disappointed!!!! It is a no from me.

This is the best Salvadoran food in Brooklyn! You can't get any better. Their food is very authentic and always delicious and fresh. Oh! and their pupusas are always TO DIE FOR. Honestly, every time I come here I am never disappointed. I've tried everything from the pupusas, to their breakfast omelettes, to their coffees, to their ethnic drink called "horchata", and everything always exceeds my expectations. I always leave with a happy stomach and an even happier heart when I come here. What makes this place even better, is the staff. They are truly amazing, happy people. Next time you're around Sunset, stop by this hidden gem, you won't regret it!

Wow the food here is so good! I usually come for the pupusas,( which i highly recomend; not too greasy, just right ) but my husband had the oxtails and omg it was so good i was eating from his plate lol. Everyone is so nice here.

Go to Gran Villa and do yourself a favor, get yourself some pupusas. You'll thank me later. I popped into Gran Villa, a small family owned and run restaurant, after spending the day drinking at Brooklyn Kura and Five Borough Brewing. I had worked up an appetite and thought pupusas might hit the spot. I ordered two: one chicken and cheese and one pork and cheese. They were so good I had to order a third, bean and cheese. They give you a bowl of vinegar based cole slaw and some mild salsa that you spoon on top. I added an horchata, a creamy rice milk drink, and was one happy camper. Service was friendly, and I ordered three pupusas to take home. All of this including tip was less than $20. That's a steal in my book.

I was looking for somewhere to grab a quick meal from and stumbled upon this place on yelp. I had been craving pupusas after failing to make them at home myself. This place did not disappoint. They had the cheesiest pupusas ever! I ordered 10 bean and cheese pupusas for my family. The masa was on point. They gave me a huge container of delicious curtido, a pickled slaw that brings freshness to the pupusas. I topped mine off with plenty of salsa and curtido. The salsa was not super spicy, to my liking, and very flavorful. I highly recommend this place. Pickup was fast and easy. I ordered right here from Yelp and my order was ready on time. The staff was very friendly and even gave me a sample of some of their meat, which had lots of flavor and the sauce was so good. I will definitely be circling back for more food in the future. 10 pupusas was enough to feed my family of 5- 2 adults and 3 kids. They are very filling and big.

Last weekend my girlfriend and I went to the monthly open house at Koch Comics Warehouse in Sunset Park. If you're into comics, fantasy, sci-fi, or anything kool from the 80s or earlier, you should definitely check these guys out (www.kochcomics.com). But, before our adventure, we needed to feed ourselves, which we ended up doing Salvadorian style at Gran Villa. I've never been to El Salvador, but if the food there is anything like what I ate at this place a trip is Definitely in order! Gran Villa is a cute family run and owned spot that was bustling with life when we walked in. Seems like it's a big local hangout. I ordered their Eggs Ranchero with beans and sour cream with a side order of fried sweet plantains. The beans were FANtastic and the plantains some of the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot. My girlfriend ordered some Pupusas, a traditional Salvadorian dish made of thick handmade corn tortillas that you fill with your choice of shrimp, pork, beans, cheese or anything else you want. I'd never tried one before (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pupusa). Take it from me, you haven't been living till you've had a pupusa from Gran Villa. OMFG, the pork, cheese, and bean combination was beyond words. We also ordered their homemade guacamole, which was absolutely delicious. Their coffee was darn good too. The staff at the place is really friendly and you truly feel like you're at a friends house for your meal and not a restaurant. It reminds me of my favorite Dominican hole-in-the-wall place in Hell's Kitchen, where I live, called Lali's (www.yelp.com/biz/lali-restaurant-new-york). Next time you're out in Sunset Park you definitely need to stop by this hidden gem!

When flying to El Salvador is not an option and your are craving some damn great Salvadorian food, BAM here it is!! They are so amazing, super friendly and warm service, once you go, you will be hooked. The Pupusa's are picture perfect, and taste so balanced and rich, they have so many different types to choose from, all made to order. But their tamale de lote is OMG F****in God they are so good with the Izalco cream, damn man, you just get there and eat!! Tony is super passionate about his food, so nice to see this dedication. This is our families official spot for Salvadorian food and we live in Queens! Honestly I think this food is better than in El Salvador, lol. WB

I've only ordered from here for lunch from work. Prices are good and the serving size of the pupusas is good.
