I’ve been a lifelong customer of Grand Butchers and have always appreciated their products and service. Unfortunately, my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed, and I feel I can no longer support this establishment.
A few days ago, I purchased a whole chicken, but when I got home, I noticed it was in an unacceptable condition—bloody and, frankly, disgusting. I immediately contacted the store, and a male employee was incredibly polite and accommodating, agreeing to exchange the chicken.
The next day, when I went to make the exchange, things took a turn for the worse. A female employee, who I later found out was the manager, appeared noticeably upset as soon as I mentioned the issue. She told me I’d be refunded, but when the male employee reminded her that he had agreed to an exchange, she reluctantly complied. Her attitude was unprofessional, and her frustration was evident as she abruptly grabbed the chicken and tossed it into the trash.
While I understand that returned food can’t go back on the shelves, her approach felt dismissive and disrespectful. Feeling unsettled, I called the store afterward to express my concerns about her demeanor. Instead of listening, she became defensive and argumentative. It wasn’t until I reminded her that I’ve been a loyal customer for years that her tone shifted, and she eventually apologized.
This experience was disappointing on so many levels. A manager should set the standard for excellent customer service, and I don’t believe her behavior reflects that. After years of supporting this business, I’ve sadly decided not to return. Their loss.
