"More than 11 years into its journey, Grand Coffee opened a second location a block away from its mini cafe on Mission Street. The shop also serves its coffee at the Grove at Yerba Buena and keeps customers buzzed during Ramadan. Located next door to Alamo Drafthouse, the new shop is spacious and bright, and working through a two-person Chemex at the tiled bar is a delight." - Paolo Bicchieri

"Grand Coffee is the preeminent coffee roaster in the Mission. You’ll find their coffee at a bunch of other coffee shops and plenty of grocery stores across the city. But come to their small operation on Mission St. to get an affordable and tasty shot of espresso inside a space that’s always bursting with communal energy. Despite only having a few seats, there’s always someone here crocheting, chatting it up with the barista, or creating an elaborate drawing on a to-go cup to be added to their small wall of artful cups." - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong

"After meeting Adrian Lopez at Rintaro and watching him demonstrate tableside pour-over technique, I began using Grand Coffee at Nightbird; Grand roasts the Axolá Women’s Cooperative beans and their demo helped shape how we present and talk about coffee to guests." - Paolo Bicchieri

"I found Grand Coffee, a longtime Mission District favorite founded by Nabeel Silmi, is partnering with Jerusalem Coffee House for Ramadan and selling a box of four coffees (boxes go on sale in early March) so folks who are fasting can drink in the evening or before dawn and avoid coffee headaches; at a burn rate of about a bag of coffee a week, Silmi says this helps prevent those headaches. The $100 packages are largely the same as last year—Silmi hopes to sell a few hundred—but with one big difference: as a Palestinian American he is donating proceeds from the box orders to the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA), the same cause Grand has supported through sales of its La Llave blend for years. Silmi emphasizes the urgency of the need, saying, “Right now, about 10,000 children have been killed since the Israeli genocide started October 7,” and argues that raising money through coffee sales is the very least they can do." - Paolo Bicchieri
