"Grande Sunrise boasts a number of seafood dishes that aren’t very common in Minnesota, or elsewhere in the Midwest. For example, the caldo del buen sabor is a soup full of shrimp, tilapia, clams, mussels, scallops, squid, and crab. There’s plenty to satisfy those not into the seafood thing as well, from carne asada tacos to pozole to pollo en mole." - Will Simons

On our visit to Minneapolis we stopped in here for our first night dinner. We really liked the place. The food was very good and the service was top notch. Good selection of Mexican beers and menu items. The queso with chorizo was a big hit as was my pastor burrito. The birria taco were very good also. We also ordered the tres leches dessert along with the churros. The churros came out piping hot and were delicious. The tres leches cake was a bit on the dry side but still very tasty. If you are in the area, this is a good place to stop and eat.

Google
Went here and they had very good chimichangas. I also liked the white nacho cheese and queso they poured on it, very good. A little spicy as well, but not too spicy. The place was also very conveniently placed as it is along both Route 22 and Route 7 buses

Marianna Dambrosio

Google
Great Mexican restaurant in a convenient Minneapolis location. The food is amazing, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. A bit pricey, but worth it for the quality. I recommend the quesabirria tacos which come with 4 tacos and a small cup of stew.

Three of us ordered one of the Parrillada combination platters and it was amazing. Beautiful, delicious, and plentiful. All for a reasonable price. The staff were kind, professional and attentive. An enjoyable dinner and experience!

Google
Took my wife here on a date night. We had the intention of getting takeout but were met with such enthusiasm at the door we decided to sit down. Our waiter was fast and funny! Our food was fast and delicious! Our drinks were fast, strong and delicious! My wife randomly found this place and we enjoyed every second!

Google
The bierra tacos I had were good but my husbands three amigos left him less than satisfied. The chili relleno was burnt on the bottom, tamale was very dry. The chips were light and crisp. The restaurant has seafood in its name and so I wish to go back and try something off the seafood side of the menu.

Google
Some incredible food here, the ceviche was wonderful. We all really enjoyed our food! The restaurant is small and quaint, near the airport off highway 62 inside a neighborhood. The parking lot is small. But their service was excellent with a smile and there is nice decor. I want this restaurant to do well despite not being in some high traffic area or commercial area. Please go check it out! We will definitely go back.

Google
Had to get out of the mall of America to come here due to the lack of decent restaurants in the mall. As soon as you walk in you are greeted & feel welcomed from the very nice people who run this place. The service was fantastic & friendly, but of course the food just made it even better. It had flavor and just looked really good. The octopus taco was so delicious, the enchiladas were great with the rice & beans that I was just happy it wasn’t like my previous experience at the Mexican restaurant at the mall, I even got some sweet plantains as an appetizer which was just to top off a great dinner. The drinks were also very good & it just shows that they do their best to make sure you enjoy your food. If I ever come back to Minnesota I’ll def. Come back here again

Yelp
If you're looking for good Mexican food, this is a spot you should check out! We were staying at GWL, but coming from MOA and looking for something other than fast food, where everyone can find something that they like to eat. Mind you, there's 10 of us, from grandmas to grandchildren, and we all have very different tastes and it's 9 o'clock at night. All I can say, is that we will definitely be back again! Very good Mexican food and right in the heart of Minnesota. We are from Southern California and we hardly ever eat Mexican food outside of SoCal just because...we live about an hour from the border and I'd like to say that we have the best Mexican food north of Mexico! Well this place did not disappoint! I had a garlic shrimp dish, my husband got the quesabirria, two others ordered chimichangas, and someone else ordered a huge bowl of meat. We barely took any food home because most of us wiped our plates clean, literally! Everything was fresh and flavorful. Only two teenager girls took a small amount of leftovers home. The service was on point also. Our waiter kept our drinks filled & got us everything we needed quickly. Everyone was super friendly there and it's a very chill place. The chairs are covered with plastic which was a bit odd, but other than that, it was clean and homey. There's even an outside seating area, if you want to enjoy some fresh air. They have specials every day and a decent happy hour too. Wish I had taken pics of our food, but I gobbled it up so quickly that I didn't get a chance. See you next time Grande Sunrise!

Yelp
We stopped by on our way from the airport north. We got there around 5:30 on a Thursday and there weren't many people there. We always have Mexican food with the friend we picked up. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and told to sit wherever we wanted. The chairs are covered in plastic and we did sink in a bit but hardly noticed as we talked and enjoyed our drinks, chips, salsa and queso. They had to come back several times before we were ready to order. It was really filling up and seemed pretty popular. We ordered quesadillas, enchiladas and tacos and everyone enjoyed our food. I had the tacos which were street style with onions and cilantro. I got chicken, you could choose your meat. I really enjoyed them. The service was quick. It had a neighborhood Mexican feel. It wasn't fancy but it was comfortable and friendly with good food.

Kolade B.

Yelp
Very tasty tacos in a hidden location. It has a rustic but yet enjoyable vibe. Everything from the paint to the chairs makes you the environment feel very sentimental. Kinda like you are eating over at your Tia's casa. The drinks are priced very well and so are the tacos. The shrimp Tacos was my fave. They made it just they way I like them. Tamales were. The service was sweet. I'll definitely come back.

John A.

Yelp
Food was ready for takeout in 5-10 minutes. I ordered a steak burrito and the steak was chopped into small pieces which made the eating experience that much better. With fries included, the price was more than fair! Will definitely be back.

Mikey A.

Yelp
Oh Grande Sunrise, what would I do without you After visiting atleast 10 times since moving into the neighborhood, I can safely say this is my go to takeout place when I'm craving any mexican food. My favorites on the menu are the chimichanga and the chorizo queso. I dream of having a grande sunrise chorizo queso fountain at my wedding. The portions for the price can't be beat, and the food is always fresh and delicious. Bonus points for having a parking lot behind the building! Lastly the service is always quick and people are always welcoming. The interior could use a little bit of updates, but feels very cozy and homey. Do yourself a favor and stop by if you're in the area!

Ken V.

Yelp
Authentic, delicious with excellent service. Not fancy, but worth a trip out of your way!

Jill F.

Yelp
Staff is so kind. Very accommodating. Love to joke around with you. Their specialty is seafood but my favorite item is just the chicken nachos and a classic margarita...heaven on earth!! I love sitting at a sidewalk table but the inside is really nice too. Highly recommend!!

Sandi C.

Yelp
The service, the ambience, and the food was excellent. I had the shrimp and it was so good I would've eaten it forever.

John G.

Yelp
This place is our favorite local spot hands down. The family that runs it is incredibly sweet, and the food is absolutely delicious, and very well priced. The service is always fast and friendly, and the ambiance is perfect for family, friends, or just a regular night of the week. Also, the margaritas are exceptional.

N R.

Yelp
We stopped here by chance and were pleasantly surprised. We loved the neighborhood vibe of this place. The food came quickly, was very good, with generous portions, and was fairly priced. The service was exceptional. Looking forward to another visit to try a few items we couldn't get to this time.l!

Charles H.

Yelp
Always excellent service and food. The margaritas are also great. And I think this is the only bar restaurant that is a 5 minute drive from the airport. So if your flight is delayed this is the spot.

mory y.

Yelp
The best of the best! I really enjoyed my food! The quality of the food is amazing! We are from California and we went there by chance. Such a great experience.

Isaac R.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious, I have been looking for a new favorite Mexican restaurant since I move to the area. I think I may have found it! I had the Chimichanga, a Barbacoa Taco and their delicious orange and straw juice drink.

Lexi M.

Yelp
Best birra dishes I've had, food is very fresh. very authentic ambiance, very good customer service.

Yelp
This location in South Minneapolis used to be the Singapore restaurant that had been vacant for a very long time until Grande Sunrise took over the location a couple years ago. I was excited to try it out when they finally opened, since I only lived a few blocks away, but was a bit hesitant how good it would be since there were two other Mexican restaurants in the nearby area as well. The first time I went inside, I was greeted by the friendly staff, and the interior was fairly small, but inviting (I was the only customer inside). I ordered a beer, and took a look at the take out menu, since I was going to take the food back home for the family. The menu was fairly extensive with pictures, and they had certain deals of the week, including reduced prices on their tacos 3 days a week. I ended up choosing the ground beef nachos for the wife, 4 tacos for myself (ground beef, pastor, carnitas, and the asada), and the chicken nuggets to my (then 5 year old). I got extra homemade hot sauce on the side). Since I was the only customer inside at the time, my order came out in less than 12 minutes, and the take out bag weighed a ton! When I got back home and unpacked everything, I noticed some nice details on the to go cartons. The cooks had perforated the package to my daughter's chicken nuggets and fries so the steam could escape, and her food stayed hot, and everything had that just out of the fryer crispness to it. I couldn't help but sneak a few of the fries, and they were excellent (battered as well). The chicken nuggets also put McDonald's to shame. There were also about 9-10 nuggets in there, along with a boatload of fries. The ground beef nacho's my wife ordered were a work of art, and it was enough food to feed two people. The 1/4th of a sliced avocado on top was a nice touch, and they were also probably the best nachos I ever had. My 4 taco's were also very good, with great flavor, and they were packed with meat, onions, and cilantro. The hot sauce was excellent as well, but may be several levels above the standard midwestern palate (no worries here though, my motto is mo hotter mo better!). They also have a mild sauce. We all had leftovers for the next day. All in all, I was very impressed! So much so, that this is now the only place we go to if we are feeling like Mexican food. The food is fresh and consistently well made every time, the service is fast and friendly, and the portions are huge. Grande Sunrise has also recently received their liquor license as well, and they have a small selection of margarita's and tequila on hand. I hope this restaurant becomes a permanent fixture in our neighborhood. If you haven't tried Grande Sunrise out yet, you are sorely missing out on this great gem. I can't say enough good things about this family owned restaurant. There is plenty of street parking (non-metered) and a small rear lot. p.s. Don't forget to get the fried plantains, it even comes with a glaze for dipping!

Bailey K.

Yelp
Fast and great service! The food came out quickly and was delicious. Definitely recommend.

Kristin W.

Yelp
My parents and I greatly enjoyed this restaurant while in town. Would recommend the guacamole and burrito with carnitas. The burrito was huge but reheating leftovers later was still scrumptious! The service was friendly and exemplary and the food was delicious! Highly recommend.

Paula P.

Yelp
It was okay. My family and I are Mexican and lived in the Chicago area for many years. Trust me when I say that I know what high quality, authentic food taste like. So, we came and were able to sit wherever. Our server was nice and food service was pretty quick. The music was also good and at a comfortable noise level. As for the food, We ordered the empanadas de camarón to start. There were three and they were kind of small. The taste was okay, but not wow-ing. I ordered the sopes. Out of the three of us, this was the best thing we got. I'll say that the maza was kind of thin so it's not really a sope you can pick up with your two hands. Typically, it's a bit thicker, but everyone prepares it their own way, so it's not the worst thing. Next, we got the menudo. This was unfortunately a bit disappointing. It was too salty, lacked flavor, lacked meat (panza). Hard to tell if they were going for a pozole or actual menudo. The last dish ordered was the Tres Amigos which is a platter combination of one Chile relleno, one enchilada, one tamale. The chile relleno was layered with melted cheese and beans. I know that some may prepare it with beans, so I won't be too picky in that regard, but it was not that great. Enchiladas are also made with a variety of salsas and can be prepared differently. To this, I simply recommend they use Chile Guajillo for a more authentic flavor. As for the tamale, it was sad. For Spanish speakers, la maza no estaba lo suficientemente cocinado y hico que supiera seco/ pegajoso. Basically, it was undercooked, sticky, and dry. It's safe to say that my family and I won't be coming back. Lastly, I want to add the fact that I really don't like leaving negative reviews, especially amongst the crowd of positive reviews. Still, I believe it's important to take constructive criticism whenever possible in order to successfully improve in life. I wish this restaurant the best of luck and hopefully they may improve on the quality of their ingredients and flavor.

Yelp
Another great neighborhood restaurant! If you're a fan of seafood this is the place for you. While that's not my favorite type of food, they have plenty of other options to choose from. I ordered the carnitas plate. This comes with a generous portion of shredded pork, rice, beans, and salad. I also got a side of corn tortillas. Incredible flavors and everything tasted fresh--not microwaved or reheated. There's also a tremendous selection of Mexican sodas, beers, etc. Jarritos Mango is one of my favorites. The house-made salsa is excellent and tacos are only $2 each. They also have daily specials. While there, I had a great conversation with the owner, who was the epitome of customer service. The other staff there were friendly and attentive. This place is definitely worth checking out. I'll be coming back!

Yelp
Thank goodness for the Crosstown! It makes what would otherwise be a challenge trying to find Grand Sunrise really easy. Once you do, don't be surprised by the low-key corner storefront with Spanglish signs. Don't be fooled, either. This is a first-rate restaurant with an excellent menu of Mexican seafood and other dishes, prepared unlike any other restaurant in Minneapolis with which I'm familiar. The homey dining room is decorated as most restaurants are in Mexico, with multi-colored banners on a clothesline stretching across the room, along with other native paraphernalia. The service is fast, very friendly and efficient. And the food is wonderful. Of course one can get a variety of tacos, including shrimp, and they're very good. But you must try one of the many delightful seafood dishes. The molé is quite good; not too sweet, and not bitter. Mine was served with an enchilada. If you like restaurants with great food, friendly service, this South Minneapolis neighborhood gem will make you very happy indeed.

Brandon W.

Yelp
What a wonderful surprise. Fresh ingredients on all our meals and on top of that the customer service was top notch. The 1.50 tacos where nice and the nachos had a wonderful citrus sauce that was mixed in the Pico de Gallo. The spicy cheese enchiladas was great and spicy!! A must stop if you're in the area.

Keyla D.

Yelp
I stopped by yesterday with my daughter and the food was amazing. Drinks and everything. They are very patient and they took the time to serve us. It was my first time yesterday trying out the food. Will be back soon.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I had a great dinner here. I dined outside. I ordered a shrimp taco and fish taco. Both were delicious, colorful and fresh. The server was friendly. I would return here in the future.

Maya G.

Yelp
My only regret is that I didn't discover this place sooner! We had ceviche tostadas, whole snapper with an excellent sauce, and cheese enchiladas. Everything was fantastic and the seafood was done just right. "Wow, this is really good" was said multiple times.

Jacob S.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Amazing food. Great prices. This family owned restaurant goes above and beyond to provide great service and food. I have dined in 15+ times and since covid have done take out 10+ times. Can't beat their tacos and burritos. Every time someone comes to visit this is where we go!

Daryl A.

Yelp
Was craving some Mexican food And found this place and didn't disappoint!!! Good tacos and tamales! Server was good as well

Shane K.

Yelp
Come for the tacos, stay for the Negra Modelo on tap! While I haven't tried the seafood yet, we've been here numerous times for the tacos. While there's nothing super special about them, they do taste great and they're rather cheap! (I think they have a deal on tacos on multiple days). They also have some of your other typical Mexican fare and daily deals on certain dishes. But this place is for the fishes. I know they have an extensive seafood menu, and considering I was unfamiliar with most of the names, I am itching to get back and explore! A great addition to my 'hood!

Karen S.

Yelp
Remarkably good seafood ! I went here for lunch last week and enjoyed a fish taco and a shrimp taco . I knew I needed to introduce my husband to the place. We went for dinner and enjoyed calamari appetizer . The grilled shrimp plate O had was delicious. A generous number of juicy large shrimp . So tasty ! He like his enchiladas also. The staff is friendly. The place is clean and festive looking. There were not many diners while we were there but it was a holiday weekend. Prices are reasonable for the high quality food. Now we plan to return with extended family.

Ken W.

Yelp
Excellent (the best I've experienced in some time) service, food is great! Staff is fun and charismatic. It looks like a hike in the wall as you drive by. It's not! And so very delicious!! Not your run of the mill Mexican food!

Kyung L.

Yelp
Had several items off the menu delivered. All of them poorly packed/transported, hard to identify what they are, very unappetizing appearances, fajitas with no tortillas. No surprise, 5 out of 5 items I ordered all tasted bad, worst Mexican food I ever had.

Dillon G.

Yelp
The food was great, the atmosphere was nice, overall a very cute little south Minneapolis establishment. Clean and relaxing environment. Service was fast and friendly. I'd highly recommend trying this place. Happy hour from 2-5p seems like a great deal.

Maria M.

Yelp
Absolutely loved it! Food was superb and service was great! The ceviche was delicious exquisite I was satisfied beyond words! Highly recommend it!

Mary K.

Yelp
Pretty solid food, very good service. Disappointed to not get the "eco-friendly" takeout packaging they mention on their menu. Worth trying again, though.

Katy T.

Yelp
Pretty good spot! It was nothing spectacular, but the food was good, the service was hospitable, and the setting a-ok. The plastic covered chairs were surprisingly comfortable (a real nice squish) and my michelada was delicious, though large. Which really isn't a complaint--I just couldn't finish it all.

David S.

Yelp
I found this place looking for ceviche in Mpls and I am not disappointed. I liked the ceviche "el viagrazo" I liked the place, and the service. This is still a hidden jewel and I hope stays that way because I don't want it to become too busy.

Abbie F.

Yelp
I was driving to the post office today and there was a sign outside that said 1.25 tacos. I love tacos and so I decided to go inside. Once inside, the man who greeted me was very nice and took my order for two steak tacos, two Carnitas and two al pastor tacos. He then told me they also had shrimp and fish tacos And so I ordered two shrimp tacos. Note, the shrimp and fish tacos are not a special on Wednesdays. I brought them home and once home I was so happy with my tacos! The shrimp taco is out of this world! There are tons of shrimp and the cheese and the avocado and everything else that is amazing. I also tried one of my other tacos and that was delicious too! I am so happy those places in my neighborhood and I will definitely be going back to sample some of the other items on the menu.

Nick H.

Yelp
Came to check this place out and was really glad! We saw the signs for $1.50 tacos which brought us in and they were delicious and the price was right! (Tried steak and carnitas) Nice music on. Nice service. Feels authentic. I will come back for more than the tacos next time! They have a different deal every day. Mexican beers are $3. Thanks!!

Maggie J.

Yelp
Ate here for the first time tonight and I was pleasantly surprised. Empanadas were delicious and so were the shrimp tacos. Portions were impressive for the price!

Sonya S.

Yelp
I ordered Sopes and it's the best. Our friends ordered burrito, taco, enchilada and they all claim it's the best ever. Plus one had a strawberry margarita- champ! Since we were a deaf group, our waiter was very friendly and used gestures to communicate. Five stars for this place!! Will definitely bring my family next time for dinner.

Corrina H.

Yelp
We have a friend that lives close and go to this restaurant every single time we visit. The food is always delicious and prices reasonable. I like the guacamole and enchiladas and my husband always gets the ceviche. Definitely recommend!

Sam I.

Yelp
Excellent seafood, very, very tasty, great variety, and great quality! As close to eating seafood in Mexico as it gets.

Maija J.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood spot! Authentic Mexican food, primarily seafood based but with plenty of meat and veggie options available. Service was fast, professional and friendly. Portions are large, prices reasonable, and menu is extensive. They were totally fine with tailoring my order as well. My only complaint is that the carnitas was a bit dry in my taco and the iceberg lettuce "salad" that comes with every dish seems wasteful- not sure who is eating it with no dressing. It's pretty to look at, but I fear most of it gets wasted. Also, more limes please! We will definitely be back!

Olivia L.

Yelp
This place was awesome - tasty and the service was great. I made a yelp account just to post this because the owner was so sweet. I got the shrimp fajitas, the shrimp was not too chewy and the flavor was so savory. We went on Valentine's Day and they gave us free champagne, and even handed me a rose during dinner.

Aaron B.

Yelp
First went here on Halloween, and only wish I had been in many more times since their opening at the beginning of the month. Picking our food we munched on some of the house chips and salsa which was quite good! Managed to try several of the tacos including steak, chorizo (my favorite), carnitas (the missus' favorite), and pastor. It comes standard with traditional Mexican taco toppings (cilantro and onions) and their house-made salsa verde with an appropriate amount of spice catering to the midwestern clientele; I added the hot sauce to our server's surprise, and it was fantastic with a nice balance of heat and flavor, especially good with the chorizo. What's even more impressive is the depth of their menu balancing Mexican and seafood dishes. As a hefty carnivore, I'm quite excited to get back and try out the Molcajete Mixto! This is a great spot for lunch, and look forward to trying this for dinner. Nice clean atmosphere, friendly service (family owned and operated from what I can tell), and great food! This is now in my arsenal for one of the better Mexican joints in town. They don't have a website (yet) but they do have a Facebook page, check it out. There has been a couple glowing threads on the area NextDoor (https://nextdoor.com/news_feed/?post=69355924 | https://nextdoor.com/news_feed/?post=68863485) if you're looking for additional reviews. Highly recommend all you Yelpers check this joint out and give it some social love!

Brian N.

Yelp
Of all the Mexican restaurants in the Twin Cities, this is our favorite. $2 tacos ($1.50 on Thursday), a diverse menu selection and world-class service. They have a large array of seafood, traditional options, and beers or wine. My girlfriend had the carnitas and pastor tacos, I the sopes al pastor and we shared the mixed ceviche. Everything was fresh and flavorful, including the ceviche! They even brought me some special hot sauce from the kitchen that was fantastic with so much heat. If the amazing food and top-notch service aren't enough to get you back, they have different daily specials and happy hour. Go here, you will not regret it.

Jessica A.

Yelp
Excellent family run and owned restaurant with owners that are invested in this community. And the food is on point from the tacos, shrimp empanadas, tamales, and burritos. They know how to do Mexican seafood! Great food and excellent service. Great patio service and takeout.

Mary Kay B.

Yelp
Really great food, definitely will return. They offer many shrimp dishes that originally was a bit concerning but it is absolutely fabulous. Don't be frightened.. get the shrimp!!!

Kristiaan V.

Yelp
Tried for the first time tonight. This place is legit and if you love authentic Mexican food, this is the spot. Plus they have amazing seafood dishes. We lived in Southern California for over 15 years where we were spoiled with Mexican restaurants and this is right there with them. Margaritas are awesome too! Muy Bueno!

Brian W.

Yelp
Lunch break a la mexicano style.. Service was slow but food was well prepared.. Worth a tgif lunch visit, I will go back.. Good place!!

Natasha S.

Yelp
Awesome tacos and great service! The barbacoa and carnitas were the best. Virtually no wait time.
