Food was EXCELLENT and the people were super friendly! I’m so glad I decided to give them a try! Fish, grits & eggs!

Google
INCREDIBLE. The essence of your greasy spoon diner- affordable, cozy, and friendly service. We will most certainly be back!

This was the diner experience I was hoping to have today. Can’t wait to go back

Google
You want a tasty diner? This is your place. Crazy tasty veggie omelette, excellent home fries. I can't think of a better breakfast in town, honestly. Extremely friendly staff - be prepared to be part of a diner-wide conversation. Counter service and a few small tables. The space is small and narrow. But it's warm, it's yummy.

Google
Everything about this place is absolutely fantastic, I loved the cooks, I loved the food, the atmosphere, it is very welcoming there. The conversations had are going to be remembered and treasured, I will always remember this place. The best hole in the wall restaurants I've ever been, if I come back to Pittsburgh, I'll definitely come back here. Bradford and Charlotte.

Google
I was just in with my lady. She had the beef bacon sandwich and I did the fish and grits. Then was offered the bean pie — same recipe served to Malcolm X and Ali when Grandma B served them. Everything was amazing. Love this place.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and fellowship. The owners are hilarious. My son and I went for breakfast last weekend and enjoyed every second of it. Best pancakes I've ever had and you gotta try the beef bacon- it will change your life. If you don't like the food, your tongue lied.

Yelp
Food is always fire I haven't had anything from here that wasn't delicious. I love the service, I remember years ago I accidentally placed my food on top of my truck it flew off I came back they got me right I always appreciate the love shown here. Ambiance is a home feeling I love it here

Yelp
Looking for a hidden gem in the Pittsburgh Hill District? Welcome to Grandma B's! Amazing service and delicious food. Darian is a friendly and personable chef that aims to please. Everything we tasted exceeded our expectations.

Yelp
Honestly didn't try the food. Walked in a whole hour before closing and they refused to serve me and my boyfriend who were going around town trying out new spots since he just moved here. It was a group of older men hanging around the front staring at us like we were lost? I was so confused and taken aback by the attitude. Giant waft of chemicals hit my face going in yet still looked dirty. Sign was dangling off the front window in a sad way. Not sure where grandma B was but I'm sure her cooking is great. With the lack of professionalism in there I'm not sure I'll ever be curious enough to come back after that experience. Best of luck y'all.

Yelp
In town from Maryland for a pens game and stopped here the following morning. Great food, great service and some great peeps! Will be back !

Yelp
This is a hot spot for breakfast and all my friends kept telling me to try it. The hours on Yelp and Google are posted wrong, because when I arrived they said they close at 1:30p on Sundays and 2:30p Monday through Saturday. Although I arrived at closing time, they were nice enough to take our order as the last order of the day, since I drove 30 minutes to get here. This is a cash only spot, so keep that in mind when ordering. Man....I ate this food so fast I did not have a chance to take a picture. The "AL special" gives you a chance to experience a fulfilling breakfast of pancakes, cheese eggs, potatoes, and turkey bacon. I ordered the French Toast. They gave me three pieces which were perfectly cooked throughout and topped with butter and powder sugar. I honestly did not need much syrup, if any. Overall, this is one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while, outside of my own. I will come back, but next time I will call ahead for pick up.

Yelp
To know this little gem is nestled in my neck of the woods brings my heart delight. I had the pleasure of dining in for Saturday morning breakfast with my family. The vibe of Grandma B's is so relaxing & comfortable that you feel like your sitting in your own kitchen reminiscing & kicking back with your own family. You feel welcomed by everyone the moment that you enter. (I must warn you that this is a very busy establishment with that said; the wait time is impeccable for one person to maintain. It's actually fun to watch how he does it, while being engaging in conversation & laughter with the customers) Now let's get into the heart of the review....THE FOOD! Incredible & delicious is an understatement....I can see myself returning frequently to experience the full menu. Everything I had was completely scrumptious. If you want that "down home country breakfast" this is certainly your place. Sidenote: If you're coming with a crowd of more than 5 you may have a wait because the front end can only accommodate around 15 or so comfortably. They also offer take out as an option. Either way you can't go wrong.

Yelp
GARBAGE, it's greasy as fuck, bland as fuck, the drinks they make taste like ass n is overpriced mfs don't know the difference between French toast n pancakes, I rmeber I ordered French toast platter, went to pick up n they got it wrong so I asked them to fix it n when they gave me back my fixed plate they gave me pancakes AGAIN n then I went back n just complained so they said they'd fix it n give it to me for free WHY TF THEY GIVE ME PANCAKES A THIRD FUCKING TIME, I haven't been back since 2021 it's 2024 n I'm still mad at that shit, try o'learys on the south side !!! VERY GOOD, not greasy prices are amazing n they give u good portions O'Leary's 10/10!!

Tracy M.

Yelp
The food was great, but the service was even better! We had the Philly and a cheeseburger. Cash only and they close early afternoon. Everyone who came in ordered the French toast so I would try that if I were in the area again.

Yelp
I had a taste for some grits and not many places up here serve grits, so I decided to go to Grandma B's today. As usual it was packed (which is a good sign for a eatery) but the flow was smooth. I dined in today because I didn't want my grits to be cold by the time I made it home. I ordered French Toast, eggs, grits, with sausage and orange juice. My food came out in a timely manner, it was nice and hot just the way I like it. Everything was good. This establishment is CASH ONLY and parking is available along the street. So depending on what time of day you go parking may be a little challenging but worth it

Yelp
The food is delicious. We went in with no cash, so had to leave and come back. It was empty when we returned, but got busy with takeout orders right before closing. Carried on conversations with the cook the whole time we were there. Super friendly! The sign said don't distract the cook but he kept everything straight with a full grill and eggs to order while still talking to us. Had the dirty grits with shrimp and peppers, along with a piece of fried fish. Food was some of the most flavorful I've had out in a long time. Fish was lightly battered and moist when i but into it. Will return.

Yelp
Walked here from a professional development class. Very small place. The staff was super friendly and the food was bangin'! Got Al's breakfast special, colleague got the loaded chicken fries. Everything was delicious and the sweet tea was homemade. As the sign says, if you didn't like your food, your tastebuds are lying.

Carlos M.

Yelp
The food lives up to its name. The food truly did taste like something a loved one, such as a grandma, would make. Definitely try their sauce if they ask you. The service was quick, and it felt cozy in the building. Make sure to bring cash, as it's cash only.

Yelp
Great breakfast! French toast slaps! The owners are also very nice, always feel welcomed when I come in (:

Yelp
Amazing food, fresh food. great service, chef is friendly and kind and they make the food right in front of you- fast- 10/10. I recommend you make a stop here if you're stopping through Pittsburg in the AM.

Yelp
This is a great place for breakfast, one you should visit. The staff is super friendly and the food is rock-solid, overall a very enjoyable time. We arrived a little after 9:30 AM so it was not too crowded. Everyone was very friendly who came by for either takeout or eating in. I got the platter that comes with a little bit of everything French toast (was VERY good), grits (the ol' fashioned kind), kielbasa ( a little spicy but very good), and eggs. CASH only and I did not see an ATM, so be prepared for that. Prices were reasonable. All is all a great place to have breakfast.

Kee J.

Yelp
Wonderful service, great food. Visiting from indiana and I'm glad I made a great choice.

Yelp
Wonderful breakfast spot. Maybe you saw it featured on Anthony Boudain's Parts Unknown? A real community place where everyone is friendly and the portions are generous. It's a small room where the kitchen is front and center. Although the sign says "Don't distract the chef," the chef was jumping in on conversation and greeting customers. Everything we tried was delicious. There are some unusual dishes, such as Fish, Grits and Eggs with Cheese. A unique place and lots of fun.

Yelp
Was visiting U of Pitt and read about this place. So glad we came to eat breakfast here. Got a basic slam dish but it was the best pancakes (and especially home fries) I've ever had. Took a bit of time to get served but that was because they were slammed with takeout orders. Not a lot of space to eat inside.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped by while visiting Pittsburgh and ordered the Philly cheesesteak, and I would definitely go back for it. It's hard to find good halal places like this. While the man was making my food he offered to throw in some fries, just so I can try them since he said they were really good. I said no, only because I wasn't that hungry, and didn't want them going to waste. Next time I'm in town I'll try them for sure. The place is definitely a hole in the wall, and sort of a bad location, in the middle of nowhere, on a pretty empty block. It looks like one of the old school burger joints; big bar counter and a few tables. The brothers who worked there were super pleasant and made me feel comfortable in a room full of dudes. They do close for Jummah on Fridays, around noon, so make sure you call ahead if you plan on going around that time.

Yelp
Best breakfast in the city!!!! Hand down food was amazing will definitely come back. Food was hot and fresh!!!

Yelp
Great small owned business to support. The guys are super cool and the food is delicious. I have been there twice for breakfast. First time I got the Big Al's special with hot cakes, turkey bacon, eggs and potatoes. The young man who was working encouraged me to get the tea and it was bomb . Second time I got the French toast plus meats (with sausage and bacon). The French toasts were my favorite of the two visits. I also got 2 teas the second time cause that was too good I needed more for later. They are popular so it does take 20-30min for your order so order ahead and know that it's cash only. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good breakfast spot in Pittsburgh.

G L.

Yelp
Phenomenal mom and pop restaurant in the heart of The historic Hill District. The breakfast was a reminder of home. Pancakes and Home fries were the best.
google avatar

Yelp
Grandma B's is a pretty small restaurant, but a lot of people either come alone or with a friend/significant other. They also have a couple larger tables toward the back of the restaurant that seat around 4 people each. My boyfriend and I shared a Philly cheesesteak with fries and a breakfast plate with pancakes, sausage, potatoes, and an egg. Their Philly cheesesteak by default came with a few toppings that aren't normally on a Philly cheesesteak (lettuce, tomatoes, mayo). I personally thought this made the cheesesteak better, but my boyfriend didn't agree and took them off. Fries were delicious. The sausage on the breakfast plate seemed overcooked and the egg was definitely overfried. The pancakes and potatoes were fine. Although I wish our food came out faster (took about 25 minutes total), the kindness of the owners made up for it. Taste | 3.5-4 Atmosphere | 3 Presentation | 3 Service | 3.5 OVERALL | 3.5-4

Yelp
Loved the food. Was a last minute choice, but was the best choice yet! Very happy with the taste of the food!

Yelp
This place is a hidden jem. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional! The cook was handling orders and talking to customers. This place is definitely worth 5 stars!

Yelp
Written on the wall behind the Grandma B's counter: "If you don't like the food, your stomach's lying." My stomach told the truth about the Dirty Grits and Home fries I ordered. As well as the sample piece of French Toast, which was probably the tastiest I've ever eaten. Dirty grits contain--you guessed it--grits, plus peppers, onions, cheese and shrimp. Very good and very filling. Didn't stop me from plowing through the home fries. And then, we'll, there was that French toast. I overheard several patrons ordering breakfast sandwiches, and since Grandma B's is a neighborhood joint with regulars, I'm going to presume that those are a safe bet....so think I'll try one on my next visit. Speaking of which: on my next visit I will bring cash, because it's required. Not only do they not accept American Express, they don't accept any form of payment other than green pictures of dead presidents...or founding fathers, in the case of a Benjamin Franklin.

Yelp
Best diner In Pittsburgh, everything tastes amazing, chefs and workers are all too nice, and amazing prices. If you're looking for great food and atmosphere as well as a great conversation, this is the spot to be

Yelp
Super small slice of a shop, that is halal and cash only. Pepsi products. Seating at both bar and along wall. Staff friendly and welcoming. Shrimp and grits came w onions peppers cheese and tomato. Next time we'll order extra toppings and shrimp. The shrimp were teeny but I'm used to gulf shrimp, so I wasn't expecting that size. The grits were the fluffiest we've eaten! Really tasty.

Yelp
First off this is a cash only and second its worth every penny In the time of the current plague we wanted good hearty breakfast ... social media (ig) led us to Grandmas its a small place that in the days before the plague would have had some counter seating you can call and order or you can walk in an order super friendly service warmly greeted we ordered French toast cheesy eggs And home fry potatoes I did not realize you can call ahead (next time) There is no gathering in the place (thank you) and mask wearing is strictly enforced the guy at the grill must have eyes in back of his head one didn't even make across the threshold and he said "NO MASK" I appreciate that, as I work in a place where people do not socially distant. The friendly gentleman at the register must listen to the news because he said over 140k (this was a few weeks ago) lost to this. Grandmas is my new favorite breakfast in all of Pittsburgh People that actually care. Food that is amazing good my French toast sandwich was so good menu has so much good food ps check out their ig for the daily videos of tasty food parking on the street and people eating in their cars which we did because we were so hungry.
google avatar

Janet C.

Yelp
I went here off of a roommate recommendation, and absolutely loved it. When I arrived ten minutes before opening, the door was already open, ready to save customers. As I looked for bike parking, a kind elder across the street offered to watch it. The cook was friendly and steadily enforced the mask policy to make everyone safe. Also the food was great for the price! Go here for good food, great service.

Yelp
One of the best places for breakfast in the Burgh. Gotta get that tea too!!! It's a special place with a humble spirit. Welcomes all manner of people's. Everybody shows respect no matter Who they are!
google avatar

Yelp
Very good! I got breakfast today.... French toast to be exact. Arguably the best in the city. My daughter loves their beef bacon. Small place with big taste!!!

Kelly S.

Yelp
Grandma B's is the neighborhood spot!! Dorian and lil man will take care of you!! My favs are the loaded fries and allll the breakfast foods. Fried fish and grits , kielbasi , french toast , potatoes , everything . This time I got the breakfast loaded fries with kielbasi and they were hella good. The sauce makes it. Their ice tea is super good too.
google avatar

Yelp
Every time I stop in it's "Hey Aliquippa!!!" with warm smiles! I love this place, for a quick bite to eat and good conversations. Food made right in front of you. I'm a fan of the fish and grits that come with eggs. Made just how I like them.

Abubakir S.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh! Everything they have is delicious, but you must try their French toast. They're always very busy so be patient when you place an order.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall the staff was very friendly. Food is homemade and well prepped. The portions were hearty and prices good. CASH ONLY. I went with the Al's special

Yelp
My favorite breakfast place! The area feels safe. Family like atmosphere. The Owner/Chef works so hard to make sure the service and food is always of quality! Check them out! I get Dirty Grits and Steak or a chicken loaded A++

Yelp
Absolutely, a four and a half star restaurant. Grandma B's is the best diner in Pittsburgh. I ordered French toast with beef sausage which was good. Though the highlight of the meal was certainly the Philly cheesesteak my friend ordered. It was the best cheesesteak that I've ever tried. I highly recommend ordering the cheesesteak for your first meal here. I take full responsibility if you don't find the cheesesteak to be outstanding.

Yelp
I'm from California and was in Pittsburgh for less than 24 hours to meet some people. If I can't go to Philly might as well settle for something in Pittsburgh! Please see my attached photos. I bought 2 Philly Cheese steaks and they were AMAZING! I don't know what kind of fries he uses but they were fantastic. I ate half of one and took the remainder back on the plane with me....IN MY CARRY ON!!! The staff was friendly as well. Bad neighborhood? I don't think so, come to they Bay Area and I can show you bad neighborhoods. It was safe enough for me, a Central Asian, to go in, have my order freshly prepared and leave my uninsured rental car outside. FYI: The place is closed Friday 1-2:30pm (or was it 2:15, I can't remember).
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
After breakfast, I was already planning when I would return for lunch because the food is just so good. Between us we had the French toast, the fish sandwich, the veggie omelette, home fries and grits and no one in our party of six left disappointed. This is definitely not going to be your classic restaurant experience. It's a very tight space with a couple larger tables in the back and a good amount of bar stools. Beverages are bottle service only so if you sit for a while just plan to make a purchase. It's not a big deal though because the price is absolutely right! There is little on the menu that will cost you over $10 and that is even after tax. It's definitely a good hidden gem if you are just outside of downtown or looking to sneak away from the hustle and bustle as a group of one or two.
google avatar

Jayme S.

Yelp
Fire. Fyre . FUEGOOOO. So good CASH ONLY I got the French toast, cheesy eggs and bacon combo. I'm usually really picky about French toast.. this was really good. The place is very tiny, but well worth it! The employees there were welcoming and nice to talk to. Looking forward to Visiting again!!

Yelp
While visiting Pittsburgh from Chicago, we just had to stop by this halal establishment. We ordered the cheeseburger, Philly cheese steak with fries and sweet tea.The food was hand down delicious. The sweet tea was quite good as well. Only thing I didn't appreciate was the service. We got to the restaurant around 3pm after driving an hour out of our way. Since the business is listed to close at 5pm, we were kind of taken aback by the attitude of headchef/part-owner who announced that he is ready to close down the shop and leave for the day. This happened right after we walked in. Though we were happy he took our order, he relentlessly complained to his other co-workers about how he is ready to leave and had it for the day. There was no sign of the door stating that they were closing two hours early for the day. As a customer, I was really uncomfortable with my 2 year old son. I really wish that I wasn't treated this way because the food was delicious and halal. I hope the management/owners read this to improve their service standard. Now, the service doesn't have to be a five star restaurant quality but customers should be treated in a decent manner.

Yelp
I had the fish grits and eggs with cheese. It was so good I ate every bite and ordered shrimp fried rice to go everyone was friendly I'll definitely be back.

Emyli P.

Yelp
Always amazing!!! Love everything they have! Great cooks and environment too. Had the French toast, eggs, bacon, and home fries today. To say I thoroughly enjoyed it is an understatement! Wow was it delicious!!

Yelp
I've frequented this place on several occasions. The food is consistently amazing. The staff is always nice and respectful. I'd recommend this place to anyone!! Keep up the good work fellas.

Yelp
Great authentic tiny little diner in the Hill! Easy to miss! Halal Breakfast sandwiches and grits! Much better than other diner fare in other neighborhoods. If you like diners and local flavor this is for you! Only downside is it is tiny!

Yelp
Took the family after reading a write-up in the NY Times (https://nyti.ms/2vz6aOw) for lunch yesterday. GB's in seven years appears to have become a neighborhood institution. Dorian, the owner, seems to know everyone who comes in the door and those who are hanging around outside. I feel like he will remember us when we return and ask about how school is going for my son. The place is narrow, with a counter extending to the back and a few two tops (so seating for a dozen or so). We went for a late lunch on a Wednesday and didn't have to wait to sit at the the counter (although another patron nicely moved to make room for the four of us). We sat in front of the grill and talked with Dorian through most of our meal. His younger brother and one other helper make the place run smoothly. We ordered at Dorian's suggestion: Al's Special (eggs, french toast, potatoes and bacon), Steak and Eggs (the sauce on the steak was delicious), fish sandwich with fries, and a sort of poutine (shredded chicken, cheese, Dorian's sauce). We finished everything. The steak and eggs was our favorite. Dorian is the star here, knowing his customers and making them his friends. He told my son, who is attending graduate school at CMU, to come with any problems he has and Dorian will help sort them out. Really nice experience.

Yelp
I saw Grandma B's on Parts Unknown and I decided to visit on my trip from Texas. I sat right down and ordered the Big G Combo. The chefs could not have possibly been friendlier. The sign warns not to distract, but they made it a point to include me on their conversation, as I was alone. About five mins later, I saw the "Cash Only" sign. I had no cash, and they had no ATM. The chefs bought my meal for me and stated that they "take care of out-of-towners." They didn't want me to come back with money afterwards. The act filled me with gratitude. Oh, and the spicy turkey kielbasa was the best part. Totally worth a visit.
