Best Restaurants for Korean Food and Barbecue in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"This longstanding Korean barbecue and tofu stew restaurant is outfitted with wooden tables, booths and benches, along with walls of televisions playing K-pop music videos. Headed by a chef that’s been cooking for over four decades, the small family-run restaurant serves homestyle classics like bulgogi, galbi, spicy pork, seafood pancakes, and well-portioned tofu stews. The banchan selection is generous and varied with kimchi, bean sprouts, potatoes, tofu, and greens. For two or more people, opt to barbecue meats at the table, while single portions are prepared in the kitchen. One of the old-time favorites in the area, this place is a must-try." - Helen I. Hwang

Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Hype I had high hopes for this Korean restaurant, but unfortunately, it turned out to be quite a letdown. Food Quality: The dishes were underwhelming, especially the soondae, which was extremely dry—as if it had been overcooked and then reheated in a microwave. The B1 beef was also on the dry side, though the B4 dish was slightly better. What surprised me most is that this is the first Korean BBQ place I’ve been to that doesn’t serve fresh vegetables with the BBQ. That’s a basic expectation for Korean cuisine and it was disappointing not to have that. Service: The service was indifferent at best. The staff didn’t seem to care much about the dining experience. They rushed to bring the bill the moment they thought we were finishing, which felt rude and unwelcoming. Atmosphere: Despite the restaurant having plenty of empty tables, even on a Friday evening, the overall experience didn’t make me want to stay longer or return. With so many other Korean spots offering better food and hospitality, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Went here with my partner spontaneously and it was AMAZING. We got beef sundubu, galbi, and kimchi jiggae. The galbi was so so delicious. We had a great experience. We will definitely be regulars here from now on.

Tofu soup is very strong. The first taste is delicious, but the more eating it, the more greasy, sweet and salty it is. If you enjoy strong taste, you will like it. But I think it will not be healthy for body. It’s both the first and last trial for me.

This is my first time coming to this location. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The food and the service is ok. The food here to grill yourself is expensive, minimum order to grill is 2 items and each item is over $29 per, not worth to come here and grill on your own. The food does taste good but pricey. If your hungry and don’t want to wait, come check this place out. What to expect here: Enough parking spaces No wait time Here is a list of foods I ordered and my bill was over $70

I ordered combo and I was expecting the soup was more tasty, but it was below average unfortunately. Bibimbap was good! The service was great when I went there. The parking was full and couldn’t find any so parked on the street.

Stopped in here for lunch with a friend on a weekend and we were seated immediately. We chose the Original Combo lunch (serves two) and split it. It came with three meats and all of the sides. Plus it also came with a tofu soup and two drinks. We managed to eat it all and we were pleasantly full! My favorite part about this place is that they came and kept track of cooking the meat for us. Yes, we had the Liberty to add more meat if we wanted or turn it ourselves but the lady who was sort of monitoring the dining room made her rounds pretty frequently and would come and turn our meat or place our meat. I appreciate it that she did the hard work and we just got to sit back and enjoy lunch. I would definitely return here. It was a great meal at a great price!

Google
Not a fan. Everything was ultra salty. I even ordered a soju to rinse and wash it down. Ladies didn’t seem too please when I asked for more banchan because the food was just extremely salty and needed the bland to balance out. Will not be coming back. Not worth it unless you like ur food with extra salt bae on top 🤷🏻‍♀️ (coming from someone who’s been to Korea and multiple states and city 😅) I’ve had much better, take your business elsewhere 👀

Google
I only did not want to give a good decent rating only because I believe it’s all about customer service, taste of the food and cleanliness when it comes to restaurants. We had made an order for the group and had asked if the meal came with rice, she said yes. She did not mention to us that it was the purple rice. When I was taking a picture of the menu, the lady had grabbed it with force instead of waiting for me to hand it to her. Some of the utensils were dirty and the plate too. It had like a hard residue. At first I thought it was water stains but as soon as I touched it to confirm, it was like a hard residue of something. We did not bother to say something because we were already uncomfortable from saying something before the food was even served. Overall, the price is a little high for me for the amount of food that we had. It’s good to eat in here if you don’t have a big appetite and you just want a little portion but if it’s a bigger group and you want to enjoy, I definitely do not recommend since it is not a buffet style (not unlimited) for the meats or the sides.

Yelp
My friends and I recently celebrated a birthday at Grandma Tofu and Korean BBQ, and it was an amazing experience! One of our friends was craving raw marinated crabs, and this place, along with Chon Ju Jip, was the only spot in San Diego we could find that served it. I'm so glad we chose this place! I hadn't been here in over ten years, and I don't remember it being this good. We ordered the Budae Big Pot (army stew), which was supposed to feed two, but my three friends and I couldn't even finish it, and we only had one other dish, the spicy raw marinated crab. The birthday girl loved the crabs, and though I tried a couple of bites and another friend tried one, it wasn't really for us since we don't usually eat raw foods. However, it was creamy, buttery, and not fishy at all--better than sushi in my opinion. The army stew was delicious, and we ordered extra udon and ramen noodles. The soup was so flavorful, and the free purple rice was the best I've had. The side dishes were amazing with unlimited refills, and the Korean servers were so nice and welcoming. These two dishes cost around $80, so with tip, it was just over $100--a great deal for four people. The parking lot is small and can be tough to navigate since there are many good foodie places in the same plaza, so we went just before lunch, and the parking lot was completely empty.

Yelp
We live in Vista. Over the years, we have had the privilege of tasty food, bakeries, and tea shops coming to town and or nearby in North County. But no tofu! Or cold noodles! At this quality and price. So! We still travel to Convoy for Grandma's Tofu. We love their tofu offerings, pork, beef, and, on occasion, their seafood option. And during the summer, we love their cold noodles. You cannot beat them. The price, the quality, for tofu stew or cold noodles, they are simply the best. The only downside is that sometimes the, although friendly service, does run a little slow. But, we don't care. These places are gems and the wait is worth it. I literally, and sincerely, I am a HUGE foodie, had the best bowl of cold noodles today. I run hot. I sweat a lot. Today was a hot one. And I was cooled down and refreshed by their delicious bowl of cold noodles. Highly recommend. We will be back and back again. See you there next time!

Yelp
Was in SD and needed some yummy tofu soup to heal from a night out! I got the Tofu Stew Combo and chose the Medium Spice Mixed Soondubu with Galbi. I really wanted to enjoy the tofu soup but it was lacking a bit of flavor T-T After I put the kimchi from the banchan in, it tasted a lot more flavorful. Not sure if it's bland for the other soup options. The purple rice is only served until a certain time (?) but it was pretty good so I highly suggest coming in when it's served! The meat was pretty tender, but I can't compare it to Kaju or BCD. I went with a group of 6 and we were seated right away! Nice homey feel. Service was a bit slow during lunch time.

Yelp
I came here with my daughter and boyfriend. We ordered the Seafood big pot (stew), Ddukbokki, and seafood pancake. It was a lot of food for 3 people! Really great flavors, tasted authentic! I loved how the portions are huge, intended to be eaten family style, just like at grandma's house! Great ambiance that feels like home!

Yelp
My friends and I wanted to enjoy some Korean food and one of them recommended we go here. I ordered one of their cold noodle dishes and found it refreshing. This place gave a lot of side dishes and we tried to figure out which ones we liked the best. The workers here were really nice while sometimes difficult to reach since it was busy when we went. The please was a bit loud but overall enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
When we first entered, no one greeted us right away. It took the waiters 5 min to seat us. Maybe they were understaffed? We had a party of 4 but only 2 of us were there. While we waited for the rest of our party, we asked if we could have banchan while we waited. The waiter was rude and said that we had to order first. I don't mind ordering first but the way he said it was so rude. Maybe a language barrier? The rest of our party came and we were able to order and get our banchan. The food was okay, it took a while for it to come out. There was an annoying fly that kept flying inside the restaurant.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and nothing I've ordered has ever let me down or made me feel regret. Whether you're ordering the tofu soup, BBQ, or appetizers you always leave satisfied. On top of that, the banchan ALWAYS tastes freshly made and always hits the spot. Other places have the driest fish cake and it makes you wonder how long it's been sitting on the counter. It's too good to let the banchan go to waste. Service is fast, but they still maintain quality, so no complaints here. Great for groups of 4 This is my first time getting the spicy raw marinated crab. It's about 6 whole crabs you can probably split between 2-3 people for $30. It is not too spicy, more on the mild end. Some places make it too spicy sometimes. I'd come back for the spicy raw crabs again. Seafood pancake - good mix of meat and veggies. Not too much. Not too little. It's super crispy on the outside but not burnt. Japchae - good flavors and not bland. It's not overpowered by sesame oil like most places. You can't go wrong with dumplings either whether it's fried or boiled.

Yelp
TEN OUT OF TEN!!! This was my first time trying raw marinated crab so I didn't know what to expect. The flavor was delicious! Spicy and very oniony. I enjoyed every banchan dish and they are unlimited by request. The ladies who worked here are super nice and came by to check on me a couple times. Will 100% be coming back!

Yelp
We ordered meat combo a which came with one tofu stew, a larger family size tofu soup (army style? I forgot what name they gave it), 2 appetizers, a soju cocktail to split, and of course the banchan. The meat was just alright, the large tofu soup was tastier than we expected. Nothing really stood out.

Yelp
Grandma's tofu house is a great place to eat and watch kpop videos. The bibimbap is delicious and with the saucers left at your table , you are free to customize your dish The banchan selection is quite exquisite as you see different varieties. My favorite is the sweet potato. Always says gamsamehda to your servers and they will be happy to feed you.
google avatar

Dayna K.

Yelp
This place is pretty underrated. Food was great and flavorful. They even have spicy raw marinated crab that's hard to come by in San Diego. I loved their tofu soup and banchans were great. Service was good. And ambiance def feels like grandmas house.

Yelp
Came in on a Friday around 8:15 - we found street parking but it's usually a miss during these peak hours. For our party of two we were seated pretty quickly and depending on your size, it wouldn't be long (we saw a table of 7 get a spot after us as well) We ordered the beef soondubu and the dumpling one and I swear - SD is a few dollars more expensive than OC prices ($17 for tofu soup) I did enjoy the banchan and thought the spicy wasn't that spicy. It was enjoyable and I liked the type of dumplings they used. We also got the purple rice but we didn't get asked to add the hot water/tea for our stone pot. The place does close at 9:30 on the spot so don't try to come too close to closing!

Yelp
This restaurant is diagonal from Cross Street Chicken & Beer. The parking lot can be a little tough at times. We parked near Cali Banh Mi. Came here with my friend the other day for lunch and they were busy! We placed our name on the waitlist, but we didn't have to wait long for a table. Also, it was my first time here and I must say it's much bigger inside than I expected! The interior was warm (lighting) and stained wood detailings. On the tvs they had KPop artists such as Ateez and BoA music videos. And for the kids, Disney Channel. On each table they had a rectangular box which held chopsticks and spoons. We also were given napkins, a small metal water cup, and a tall water container. I loved the utensils because they were skinny, long handled, and had a good weight to them. To eat, we ordered: - 1 Haemul Pajeon: Seafood and Veggie Pancake, it is served with a dipping sauce on the side. I really enjoyed this Korean Pancake because unlike other places this pancake was bouncy! The plate was massive and so we took about half of it home. - 2 purple rice (they also offer white rice): this came out in stone pots so the rice was kept hot throughout our lunch. Very fluffy, a little bit of chew, deliciousness. - Galbi Jjim: my first time having this (they also have a spicy version). And omg!! It was really tasty. There was a sweetness and then you have the black pepper taste that coated the rice cakes. The rice cakes were cooked beautifully. And there's also radishes in here which people might mistake as potatoes! The carrots were perfectly stewed. Be sure to use the scissors to cut the meat off the bone. The meat was so tender with a bit of crunch from maybe fat or some sort of marbling. -- not quite sure since usually I don't eat this sort of meat. But I would 100% get it again! The workers were very sweet and attentive. They made sure to look out for you whether-- reminding you to be careful because the stone pots are very hot and sizzling. They smiled and wished us goodbye as well. We were very satisfied with our meal as we walked out. Would come here again!

Yelp
This is where we bring our friends who want to try Korean food maybe for the first time! It has so many options so it's great to try the entire experience. Soups, bbq, even vegetarian options. Love this place will be coming back.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
The older worker is great. The younger one told us she was going to get the hot water and a separate bowl for the rice, but didn't do so until we asked again. It wasn't even busy so I would expect her to remember. The tofu soup is not good here. There was so little in it and the flavor was shallow. The biggest problem was with the clay pot the rice came in. It was in bad condition and so burnt flakes were falling into my rice. I picked some out. This seems pretty bad for people's health.

Yelp
I am OBSESSED! This is my first time here and their tofu soup is AMAZING!!! I ordered the mandu soondubu and kalbi combo and a seafood pancake appetizer. I love how they give banchan on the side. My fav one is Anchovy fish, I haven't had them in FOREVER!!!! Dumpling tofu soup is DELICIOUS!!! The flavor is there, soft tofu, bubbling deliciousness!!! Seafood pancake has so much seafood!! I would highly recommend this place! I ordered Togo so I had limited service. The lady on the phone was nice. When I got there at 1115 the tables were already half full. Highly recommend for SD tofu soup craving (mine is now SATISFIED)

Yelp
OVERALL: HANDS DOWN FAVORITE. KOREAN FOOD PLACE. I wish I could say it tastes the most authentic (but I've never been to Korean). Whenever me and my friends crave Korean food, its always Grandma's Tofu house. We've pretty much tried everything there :). Parking sucks (its Convoy what do you expect) but if you do find street parking and then walk like a quarter mile, there is dessert next door that is delicious. It's always super busy and at least a 20 minute wait (personal experience) but worth it!!
google avatar

Quynh N.

Yelp
This is our place if we want to eat Korean food. My son also love the food here. Great customer service and it's great for big party too. I love that thế have the combo which you can choose meat dish and soup. It's a great combo. Lemonade is good. The only problem here is parking. Parking is small and sometimes it's hard to find.
google avatar

HK H.

Yelp
It's super hot out! Summer always makes me crave Asian chilled noodles of any kind. My girlfriend and I tried both cold noodles here (one is mixed in a spicy sauce, the other is a chilled noodle soup). Both were refreshingly delicious, though I would say the noodles themselves were a little over cooked for my taste. The service is a typical Asian restaurant: folks leave you be unless you ask them for something. We lingered a little bit catching up on a Friday night. No one gave us a hard time and the table was turned over in no time.
google avatar

Deanne L.

Yelp
I would give this place a good 4.5 stars so far, especially for their bulgogi. I'm surprised the ratings aren't as high. I've visited a few times already and each time has been great. My favorite thing to order is the Tofu Stew Bulgogi Combo ~$25 because it was perfect to share with my friend, but I believe it's also good for just one person. It comes with a standard size bowl of your choice of tofu stew, bulgogi, and rice. I fell in love with their bulgogi! It's so tender, flavorful, and not chewy. The tofu stews are okay, I've had better tasting ones elsewhere, but still no complaints each time. I recommend their dumplings, I always order them. They're always different sizes so I like to assume that they're made there. They serve soju so that's a plus. Good service and food comes out hot and quick
google avatar

Brenda P.

Yelp
Ordered on postmates from here last week and I have no complaints at all. I went with the beef soondubu (tofu stew) and beef bulgogi combo which came with a side of rice and some traditional Korean side dishes. Everything was packed so nice and neat and the food arrived warm. The type of side dishes that were included were: napa cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi, fish cakes, sweet potatoes, and fried anchovies. The soondubu had generous amounts of beef and tofu and the bulgogi was cooked perfectly. Can't wait to dine in and try other items on the menu.
google avatar

Laura J.

Yelp
I got the tofu stew combo, the beef soondubu with beef bulgogi. I really like that there is an option to get a combination so you get a little bit of each thing. But one thing to note is that the portion is smaller than if you order them individually. This makes sense, but the only thing is because you get less rice and soup in the stone pots, the rice and the tofu soup dried up rather quickly. Other than that, I really like the soondubu very flavorful, a good amount of beef. And the beef bulgogi wad delicious and there was a very good amount for the price.
google avatar

Alejandra A.

Yelp
I was not impressed with the food quality. My all time favorite Korean dish is the tofu kimchi soup... but here it was bland and it was not a soup at all. It was more like a thick stew. The side dishes were ok but they didn't taste as fresh as other places. I didn't try the BBQ so maybe that's where their good food is but I guess we will let someone else speak to that. The service was ok. It was early in the evening so not very many people there. I'm used to getting the side dishes before the main meal so now I have grown accustomed to that. Therefore, getting the side dishes with my main meal was a little bit of disappointment. The ambiance was good! Plenty of seating and calm atmosphere. Overall it was an ok experience.

Yelp
Omgosh.... Errrrr I'm Korean from Korea so this place is really really bad imo... Korean grandmas definitely do not cook their food like this place just fyi... I ordered seafood tofu soup... come on... how can you be a Korean and owns a restaurant and cannot cook a simple spicy tofu correctly?!!! the waitresses were Korean ladies so I'm sure there is a Korean chef in the kitchen somewhere right....?! the soup was super water down and there were handful seafood and of course I can tell very poor quality. Even BCD tofu house tastes better... Dolsot bibimbap.... It was watery for some reason.. my gf and I took some time and waited so the bottom of the rice to be Krispy... but due to too much water maybe from veggies, the rice never got Krispy. Pls, put some seasame oil or something, this was very bland and tasteless. I had to put a lot of gochujang and eat with kimchi... Sundae bokeum spice wasn't bad but soondae was over cooked and liver and other parts didn't look fresh....

Yelp
We came at 6:30PM specifically for the purple rice, but then they didn't have it available. Service was not great either, stingy with refills for banchan. Also requires that everyone gets their own plate or "extra plate fee." What's the point of going to this restaurant if food is at best mediocre and service is low. Better quality korean food/ service at the other places in Convoy.
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Korean cold noodles. I got number 73, the Bibim Naengmyeon. It was so good, the sauce was sweet with a bit of spice. The cold noodles and soup helped cool down my mouth whenever the spice hit. Wow! The sides were also amazing. The fish cake and eggplant were the star sides. We were seated really fast and there's such a large variety of food on the menu so there's something for everyone. Parking in the lot is a bit hard, but it's expected of Convoy area. Plenty of parking down the side street!
google avatar

Karina J.

Yelp
My partner and I are obsessed with this place. We've had to set a rule limiting ourselves to only go once a month but we break that rule too often. Their pork soondubu and seafood soondubu is amazing. We normally get extra spicy for both and they definitely don't hold back on the spice level. Lunchtime or early dinner is a good time to go because you can normally get seated right away. The staff is always very friendly and will bring more appetizers as you finish them. They're normally playing K-pop on the speakers with the music videos on the TV's. I enjoy watching and listening while I eat. They also have a second set of TV's that shows MTV or other channels with the sound off. It's a chill atmosphere with a good amount of booths to sit in.

Yelp
Grandmas is okay for Korean food on Convoy! Not the best, but will satisfy for Korean food cravings. I love their selection of side dishes here at Grandmas. They give you so many AND they are all high quality/delicious. I prefer Friends Tofu House over Grandmas. Seafood Tofu Soup Medium (6/10): Pretty decent, I would say I would've preferred a more flavorful and spicy broth. Not very spicy for a medium. Service is great and I love the vibe. They always have something good on the TVs too.

Yelp
This place continues to offer great food and service. Came for a 7:30 pm dinner and were seated right away. Food came out quickly. Banchan spread was varied and numerous. Japchae was more than just noodles; it included a mix of cabbage, carrots, and bulgogi. Soondae (with organ meat) came out hot. Soondae held up really well unlike some other places where the soondae is crumbly. Goonmundu had a light, crisp shell. Rest of the patrons were quietly chatting, so even though it was busy, you can hold conversations. Really nice family ambiance.

Yelp
Grandma's house has been an old reliable for us but our most recent visit was disappointing. For a weekend lunch crowd, it was moderately busy, we were acknowledged and seated right away. It was easy to place our order because we were familiar with the menu and knew what we were craving. I ordered a beef soondubu and my husband the bolgogi entree. After that it was silence for awhile. They even said they couldn't fulfill my order of hot barley tea because it would take too long to brew. They also only brought out the side dishes with our entrees, probably so we're not asking for more as we wait for the entrees. The sides were reliably tasty and there are 8 different ones. My beef soondubu on the other hand was pretty bland, I had ordered it mild but typically there was a still a rich broth flavor, but this time tasted watered down. There was also very little beef in that soup. Hopefully just a one off experience.

Yelp
Authentic Korean food for a reasonable price. Samgyetang and Galbitang tasted good and authentic. Panchan (side dishes) experience was diverse as well.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't wrote a review for this place! We visit here quite a bit when we crave Korean food, especially their cold noodles! They have a wide variety of dishes, from Korean BBQ to tofu soup, or other authentic Korean dishes. To start the meal, their side dishes (aka banchan) are great. 8 different dishes and all of them are very delicious. Tofu soup has good flavors, but kinda what you would expect. I love their cold noodles! They are actually why we like this place. They have several different kinds of cold noodles and they are all really good. The serve here is also good. We always come in and have a table to sit right the way. This is one of our go to Korean places in San Diego.

Yelp
I love this plaza, there are so many great places to eat and Grandma Tofu is the best bet if you want some good Korean food. Since I work in the area, my coworkers and I stop in here for lunch at least twice a month. I always get the bulgolgi, the meat is always tender and tasty. Service is pretty quick if you are trying to fit lunch in an hour. I love all the little dishes that come with every meal. The place is clean and can fit a large group if you have one.

Yelp
A staple. An icon. A queen. Always a good choice for hearty, good ol, comfort favorites. The kimchi pancake, fried dumplings, and a soondubu always hit the spot. Plus their bonchon is always on point with a variety of choices. Love this place.

Yelp
Me and the wife enjoy this place as the food quality is good. However, last few times we arrived we noticed the waitress turning people away when it was 820pm stating kitchen is closed. So today, me, wife and kids were coming down from Oceanside as we were craving for tofu soup. We were there at 830pm and was told kitchen was closed. If you plan on not serving after a certain time you should change your hours. It's terrible to know a place with good quality food is turning people away an hour before their indicated closing time of 930pm. We watched people walk in and turned away.

Yelp
Food- the soybean paste stew was very salty. We had to exchange the soup with dumpling soup because the first one was very salty. The banchan were also salty so we did not enjoy them as well. However, the dumpling soup was good and had a good broth flavor minus the saltiness unlike the other dishes. I would rate the dumpling soup as 4 star. Service can be better though. They rarely checked on our table and we had to flag the wait staff with requests like asking for more purple rice. My friend had already aded her rice to the soup that was taken away and she wanted to eat rice with the soup. The waitress appears to be unhappy with the request, as it did not come with the soup but my friend said she she will pay extra for it. Then to replace the soup, she first asked if broth can be added until we asked for completely new soup. Ambiance was casual and the bathroom was clean so 4 stars for that. Overall, it will take few more months for us to return, as their food is more in the saltier side.

Yelp
After working out at the gym, it was time for lunch! We walked around the area since it was a few blocks away from the gym and saw a crowd outside of Grandma Tofu so we decided to take a chance on it. It's a small mom and pop shop with less than 20 tables but there's a crowd growing outside with Koreans waiting so there must be some merit?? Anticipation is rising. We ordered the soondubu + galbi combo, seafood pancake and the bibim cold noodles. The ban Chan selection was decent but the kimchi and the cucumber kimchi was sour and too fermented for my taste. Would have been better in a soup. The soondubu and galbi had decent flavor and it came with mixed rice in a stone pot. So cool! The cold noodles had good flavor but there was barely any beef!! It was 2 pitiful thinly shaved beef slices and I kept digging in my bowl for more. The seafood pancake had more batter than green onions and seafood. I was not a fan. Overall rating I probably wouldn't come back.

Yelp
The customer service is not that good. A couple times they mixed up my orders and they even told me at my face that they couldn't make the purple rice but my friend got the purple rice instead. But I still like the food in here .

Yelp
I went to this place because I didn't know what to eat and my friend recommend this place because it is their favorite tofu soup place. They were busy at all but when they are busy, they are pretty attentive and try their best to sit you as soon as possible. I went another time because my friend was asking what is a good depression food and i immediately thought of this because good soup warms my soul and makes me happier. Their portions are pretty good. At first I thought it was small but it is because I got the combo so it makes sense because just soondubu, the bowl is a lot bigger that the portion is good! I love the sides and how delicious it is. I love that you are able to ask for more but you only get one egg for your soul though. However, the parking is small and it can get pretty busy at times.

Yelp
One of my favorite Korean restaurants! The side dishes here are amazing! I really like how they put the rice in a hot stone so that we can have crispy rice if we want to, omg it tastes soooooo good! Our favorite is the mix soft tofu soup and Galbi combo! Always hit the spot! It's also very spacious inside and the music is not too loud just to my liking

Yelp
Great place to come for some delicious tofu soup and dumpling soondobu. My one complaint would be that the dumplings were so big that there was not enough soup inside the pot. The dumplings had good meat and flavor and there was a lot of ban chan to choose from. My favorite was kelp seaweed salad and the kimchi! I went with spicy and it definitely had quite the nice kick so be careful going that spicy. The servers were very nice and refilled our side dishes as many times as we asked! I really appreciate them asking us how the food was as well! Feel free to come here for some nice warm soon dobu! I forgot to mention there was purple rice with multigrain rice grains that tasted extra delicious.

Yelp
I may be biased to say love this place. My son, in laws, wife, parent and myself wouldn't be asking more than what they offer as Korean food. Thanks to old friend who introduced this place to me I have been dining here probably last 6-7 years. I tried different items on the menu myself and with family members.

Yelp
I ordered 2 sundubu's (Soft tofu stew) and was extremely disappointed. The flavor of the soup was flat, flavorless, and left much to be desired. The amount of meat that was "included" was as minimal as possible, and the ratio of meat to tofu was disappointing to say the least. I really tried to finish this soup, but ultimately could not. As I said, the soup itself was extremely watered down and not even the correct color (Because of added water or stock/broth to manipulate the "volume" of the soup). I see many good reviews on this, and who knows? Maybe they just had a crappy day and I picked the short straw. Still not a good first impression and will no longer be ordering from here. A disclaimer: If anyone here is new to Korean cuisine, I promise you this-This isn't it. I recommend ordering/dining-in at Friends House Korean also located on Convoy. They get it right every single time-the flavors, the atmosphere, the meat/veggies/tofu ratio, the food portions for a good price point is always spot on. The only reason why I took a chance and ordered from Grandma Barfu is because Friends House was not accommodating deliveries today due to a high demand in orders. Which goes to show how much better it is. Take it from me. Order from other places like Friends House and get your money's worth for quality and portion-and of course, authentic Korean cuisine.

Yelp
Pretty solid Korean food in the convoy area. They offer a plethora of different Korean dishes from bbq to stews, to noodles, to stir fried dishes. There's something for everyone depending on what you're craving! My go-to is their soft tofu soup (soondubu), which comes in a bubbling hot ceramic pot and they have a variety of options from vegetarian to meat and seafood. You can adjust your spice level from non spicy to spicy. It comes with an egg that you can crack into your bubbling hot soup, but I always ask the kitchen to crack it in for me while it's still cooking. The best part is the purple rice it comes with. It's fluffy, chewy, and cooked to perfection. At the end, don't forget to add hot water to the pot where you leave the last layer of rice to create nurungi (scorched rice) soup. My favorite part of the meal! The ban Chan (side dishes) are complimentary and delicious! They change it up every once it a while and there's a lot of variety. Free parking in their lot! Pro tip: go get dessert at bing haus a couple doors down to cool down after your meal.

Yelp
SUPER EXPENSIVE!! The rice was dry and in need of water. The combo was almost 30 dollars each and it's much smaller and more expensive than every Korean tofu place I've been. The soup was not hot enough to cook the egg. We had two combo orders and added an egg to one pot and waited for a new egg for the other soup. The other egg they gave us was spoiled and they wanted to charge us for a replacement. It's understandable that the egg we were waiting for wouldn't cook, but neither eggs were cooked. Soup tasted like miso, which is not bad but not what I ordered. Service was subpar. ALSO THERES A SHARE PLATE FEE!! 4 dollars per person you share with. If the combos were not already 30 dollars and maybe around 15 I would understand the share plate fee, but really?? A fee for a 30 dollar dish?? The share plate fee is only disclosed towards the end of the menu in small print. At least tell us?? Like seriously you expect us to just know or go through every detail on the menu?? I didn't want to order anything on the last page so I didn't pay too much attention on the details. Just crazy. I'm not from the area. I was visiting a friend and I can't tell if it's the area or if LA has just been spoiling me. I seriously can't believe that two combos ended up being 70 dollars. TDLR; food average over 25+ dollars, there's a share plate fee they won't tell you, food is gross, portions are small, and service is meh. Also side dishes are lacking.

Yelp
The food here is good but not exceptional. There are many Korean restaurants around the area that can give you the same level of satisfaction. But what I do really like here is the friendliness and cleanliness. The inside is quite big and comfortable. Not overly loud or cramped. It's casual and nice for dinner. I recommend coming with larger groups because the menu items come in pretty big portions so for 2 people you wouldn't be able to order much. They can open up the center to make it a KBBQ grill or if you order a big sharing soup they will put the pot of soup there.

Yelp
This is my first time coming to this location. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The food and the service is ok. The food here to grill yourself is expensive, minimum order to grill is 2 items and each item is over $29 per, not worth to come here and grill on your own. The food does taste good but pricey. If your hungry and don't want to wait, come check this place out. What to expect here: Enough parking spaces No wait time Here is a list of foods I ordered and my bill was over $70 My pictures are on my google account. Follow this Yelp account and my google account for more reviews of food and places. The food here is amazing and you must try. Staff are very friendly.

Yelp
I got the WORST food poisoning from here...I got their bossam and it came with raw oysters which I am pretty sure is what gave me a stomach bug. I've been to this place before for other food items which were good but this experience scared me off from eating any of their other seafood. This day, the service was a little off than usual...the staff were not that attentive to our needs but whatever it's fine. I usually really like this place but I would highly discourage you from especially trying their raw oysters...

Yelp
I've eaten here multiple times throughout the year but this was once of first questionable experience. We came in as a group of 6 and ordered a large hot pot that had a mix of noodles, veggies, and protein. On top of that we order multiple appetizers to start us off. However we were told we would get an extra charge of $6 per person since we technically only order "one entree". The hostess and waitress's were not helpful with any questions we had and they were kind of rude when bringing us dishes. We also got questioned the two times we asked for more water. All of which was unnecessary and made the experience of eating there not the best. The food itself isn't bad. The hot pot dish is a great item to order if you want a little bit of everything. As for the raw marinaded crab, the flavor just tasted like spicy soy paste. It was difficult to eat since they didn't give us the tools to crack the crab so we had to figure out how to do it ourselves. I would not recommended this dish.
