I have heard so much about Granny's Fish N Grits and decided to try it the last time I visited my hometown of Birmingham, Alabama and I made sure I went early to avoid the crowd.
Let's get started.
Granny's Fish N Grits is a Birmingham food truck. I'm accustomed to this because we have food trucks all over Atlanta and the concept is great. The food truck is parked on 3rd Avenue and 9th Street. When I arrived there wasn't a line so I was excited.
Parking: There is minimal parking on the street and I'm sure the later it gets, the more difficult it is to find a parking space. I parked at the Church's Chicken and prayed my car wouldn't get towed:-)
Ambience: The food truck is parked near Church's Chicken. I don't recall outdoor tables so it appears there is take out service only. I was told to get there around 7pm to avoid the crowd. It is my understanding the hours are 5pm -3am and the later it gets, the more patrons you have to deal with. The menu is available with a list of all of the offerings.
Menu: There are several items on the menu that include grits, fish, chicken, shrimp, bacon, sausage to name a few. I decided to try the super bowl which consisted of grits, shrimp, bacon and sausage. The combination of the items was absolutely amazing. The grits were creamy and the toppings added the right amount of flavor.
Staff/Service: Since I was the only person in line, it didn't take long for my dish to be prepared. The cashier was extremely friendly and made sure she got the order correct. I waited about 5 minutes for my dish, so the service was fairly quick - which I like.
Taste: Oh my! The dish was amazing! I was surprised that I liked the dish as much as i did. I didn't know how I would feel about the shrimp and bacon combination, but the flavor was on point. I shared with my family and they loved the dish as well.
I will definitely be back and share the great review with family and friends. If you live in the Magic City, this is a must try. I give this food truck 5 stars. The food makes you want to slap your momma, your husband and your children. All I can say is wow!
