The 38 Essential Toronto Restaurants

"Wine should always be easygoing and approachable, at least according to Grape Witches owners Nicole Campbell and Krysta Oben, who opened their bottle shop and bar (including a seasonal patio) in the west end of the city. They offer parties and workshops with an aim to stimulate conversation and educate palates in the process, aided by their quirky yet handy “Badge” guide, a litmus test to determine how “wild” you want to go outside your usual tasting comfort zone (based on variables like acidity, minerality, savoriness, bitterness, sweetness, and more). And although full meals aren’t the thing here, Campbell and Oben have curated a high-quality assortment of crudites, cheese plates, and tinned seafood to enjoy between glasses." - Tiffany Leigh

"Toronto’s notoriously rigid licensing laws were relaxed at the beginning of the pandemic to allow shuttered restaurants, bars and retailers to become bottle shops, selling takeaway alcohol in order to bolster their businesses. A slew of fine new vintners have since opened their doors, including Grape Glass, launched by Nicole Campbell and Krysta Oben in June, which specialises in natural wine."

wow. thanks for single-handedly carrying the Ontario natural wine importing game. found my favorite elusive wine producer here by a stroke of luck (I was just visiting Toronto) and I could’ve cried! the patio is beautiful but the flights left something to crave. it was ok, i think i just had a weird day (as a big natural wine person!). truly some spectacular selection, great vibes, the food looked nice for snacks - and i especially appreciated the grape fountain. thx for existing!

This is such an amazing wine store. The descriptions of the wine are so great. Worth the trip in and off themselves. They are accurate, fun, and their symbol system is really wonderful. Makes it easy to pick out great bottles. I have always got wine that was at least very good. At all price ranges ($40-$150) I have had some really special wine. Cannot recommend it enough.

I really liked the selection of wines that they have! Both that we got taste good and staff are very friendly and helpful. I really appreciated that they had Quebec and BC wine! I had such a hard time finding non-Ontario Canadian wine in Toronto.

Wonderful selection of wines by the glass or bottle, or if you’re having trouble choosing, try a flight! To be enjoyed at their indoor seating or on their charming little back patio - or you could always buy a bottle to take home with you. They also have light snacks available. Love this place!

I love visiting for a glass of wine on the back patio or to buy unique bottles of wine! You can do a tasting flight before buying which is so helpful. Their olives are phenomenal too. Dog friendly!

The place is nice, but I had a pretty bad experience with the customer service. I arrived at 4:30 on August 7, 2024, which was a Wednesday. The girl who was at the front of the house was very condescending and rude. I asked politely if the canned salmon was good, and she responded in a very condescending manner, “Why would we sell it if it’s not good?” I understand her point, but I was asking nicely. Overall, I love the place but wouldn't go back just because of the customer service I received.

What a delicious natural wine bar. So many options and a diverse price range offers in new comers to natural wine for questions which are happily answered by staff. Upbeat and happy is everyone who is working there, and the front outdoor patio is lovely. Sign their petition on their site so they can open their back one!

Great ambiance for selecting the perfect wines. So many unique choices and an easy system to understand. I was recommended this place by a wine maker friend and I finally got to go and visit and it was totally worth every minute. There are chilled wine options and 'last chance' options as well. They sell fresh bread and really good chocolate as well.
