Interesting spot right off the BeltLine, near Piedmont Park. Grass VBQ Joint is nestled on the side of Orpheus Brewing. Right now, you have to order online and come to the pick-up door. There's little to no interaction (I am assuming due to COVID). You just walk up and find the bag and ticket with your name, and grab it. If you get there early enough, you can eat at one of the few tables on the patio/deck.
I ordered The Groveway, which was a pulled jackfruit sandwich topped with VBQ mustard, green onions, and chow chow, on a toasted bun. It came with a side of Zapps chips. I also ordered a banana pudding cookie! Friends ordered the Nashville Hot Chickn, macaroni, jerk wings and baked beans.

The Groveway - I loved it! I went with this because I am someone who prefers straight up vegetables, fruit, or maybe even a black bean burger over imitation meat. The flavor was nice and I think my favorite part was the toasted bun. The jackfruit and combination of VBQ mustard went well together. Without the bun, the jackfruit was ok, but with the bread it made me feel like I was eating a real bbq sandwich. I was also excited that they sell Zapp's chips. I went with the voodoo flavor which has always been my fave. Now the banana pudding cookie.... I had high hopes for this as I've had and enjoyed other vegan desserts. The cookie was super soft which was a plus! However, the taste was lacking. A friend and I both tasted the cookie at the same time. We stood there looking at each other for a about 20 seconds waiting on the other to comment (or for the taste to kick in), because we didn't taste anything)! I was thinking maybe because it followed my sandwich which was so flavorful, until she said she couldn't taste it as well. The banana flavor felt more like an after taste.
The Nashville Chickn sandwich and the jerk wings were a win. If you're not vegan, just know the textures a little different, but overall good flavor. We thought it was creative how they had a wooden stick in the chicken to give the appearance of a bone. The Nashville Hot Chickn' was very close to a real chicken sandwich.
The baked beans were a NO-GO for everyone, which was interesting because this is the one dish
I think there shouldn't have been very much difference. It's beans. It felt like they were trying to do too much with the fake bacon bits, etc. I tasted more of this than that spicy/sweet flavor of baked beans - which was not really there at all. I didn't try the macaroni, but according to my friends, it wasn't bad at all.
Overall, it was a cool experience and I enjoyed sitting out on the patio. I'd go back if I were bringing a friend who's on a plant-based diet to try it.
