22 Must-Visit Culinary Pit Stops in Oregon | Eater

"Two-year-old Grateful weaves together farming, fermentation, and deep nourishment. It’s the only winery, cidery, and brewery hybrid in Mount Hood, and it’s owned by Katrina McAlexander, a third-generation farmer and fermenter. Don’t miss Grateful’s newly debuted Mt. View cherry lime hard seltzer, inspired by the owner’s grandmother’s homemade cherry limeade. While you sip, take in the fresh mountain air with an unmatched view of Mt. Hood’s north face. Reservations are required for tasting room appointments, but guests (plus kids and dogs) are welcome to drop by the “Grateful Gardens” sans reservation to enjoy some sunshine." - Janey Wong

Drove past on the way to Hood River and decided to check it Out! Glad we did! Escaping the smoke in the Bend Valley and came across this little slice of heaven. Had an IPA & sparkling rose and took in the view! Nice place that we both thought would be a great venue for a gathering. Small menu but the pizza looked pretty good! Glad we stopped.

Google
Here are the Pros and Cons: Pros- - Amazing view of Mt Hood and surrounding area - Nice outdoor area with tables and space for yard games, partially covered - They offer more than charcuterie; pizzas and salad. The pizzas are pretty good - Staff has always been nice to us and we never experienced a long wait like some of the other reviewers. We did make a reservation beforehand for our party of 8 though. Cons- - The wine is not good. I hate saying this but it tastes cheap. - The beer is decent.

Google
The wine and beer flights are great. Wine flight was all white wines. Beer flight was ipa variety and a surprisingly good rice lager. Flight is free with bottle of wine purchase. Views are hard to beat and service was incredibly friendly. Also the complimentary bread with butter was amazing. I wanted to buy a tub of the herb butter by itself.

Small spot. Get a reservation. Great pizza; a bit knife and fork (flop). Beer is decent. Views are next level.

In my opinion, this place is the hidden gem of the greater Portland area and should be on the list of anyone visiting. We come here every summer, and we visited a couple weeks ago on my birthday. The view is the most spectacular view of Mount Hood anywhere, the pizzas are amazing (I recommend the pear and Gorgonzola) and the ciders are absolutely delicious (I am a cider connoisseur) We have two small kids in their family, friendly it a great place to soak up all the good things of the Pacific Northwest and walk barefoot in the grass. You can also picnic.

What an excellent spot! The pear pizza and holiday pie were both absolutely delicious, and the beer flight was a treat. We especially enjoyed the ube ale—so fun and tasty! The view was incredible, and the vibes inside were really lovely. Friendly and helpful staff too. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
Beautiful place…but I agree watch your credit card bill. When we arrived,, I went inside and ordered a glass of wine and a beer and paid while the hubby sat outside with the dog. After enjoying their beautiful outdoor area, the hubby went in to get a crowler to go while I hung with the dog. The bill came to 86 bucks and he said that can’t be possible as we closed our original tab. (I signed it and tipped generously). She was adamant (to him) that we didn’t. When I went back in to straighten it out she said it was a simple mistake and blamed the other gal who just left her shift and said she was just coming out to get us. She wasn’t that apologetic. Something smells fishy. Too bad…it’s a beautiful place.

We came here for my birthday and had a wonderful experience. Great food, great beer and great view of Hood. Our server Moses was awesome- super friendly and accommodating. I accidentally left my purse and to go box behind, they had already closed but Moses made sure to wait for us to come back and retrieve it before he left. So kind! Thank you Moses!!

Yelp
I am leaving a review because I just thought about this place and how good the pizza and cider was, and managed to find this Yelp page after doing some digging on what this place was called again. I was visiting Oregon from LA and we took a day trip up to Mt. Hood, stopping by here on the way down. My wife and I each got a flight, one of beer and one of cider and an Arugula pizza. The location was very cute and rustic modern with excellent views of the mountainous region and surrounding fields. I specifically remember how absolutely delicious the cider was, possibly my favorite set of ciders I've ever had; they were dry and fragrant, and perfectly fizzy. The pizza also comes specifically to memory as being very rustic and delicious. Lastly, I also recall the beer being very refreshing and delicious but were outshone by the latter two in my opinion, purely due to how they suited my personal tastes. Glad I was able to relocate where this location was, I was hoping they delivered their ciders via mail but it seems they do not at the moment. Will have to revisit this spot next time I am in Oregon.

Yelp
Very disappointing! The food is subpar for the outrageous pricing formula. The explanation about the menu is ridiculous, please simplify it for human beings. I used to work for the health department, this is not acceptable. Also, the beer is not good, either the lines are bad or your brewer is lazy. I'm guessing the latter. Staff was adamant about "Bobby the Brewer" being lazy and not even able to change the kegs. Get it together, the opportunity is endless but the owners are lazy and it trickles down to the employees. The tick tock girls at the bar talked about the owners bouncing paychecks too. Crazy concept but Good luck

Yelp
Friends and family joined Grateful Vineyards Mt. Hood Libation Society, so they invited me to a members only VIP event when they picked up their wine, cider and beer. The drive from Portland is gorgeous with stunning views of Mr. Hood. When we arrived in what felt the middle-of-nowhere, we entered the tasting room where we were allowed to try two complimentary beverages. I sipped the Sparkling Rose (normally $18 a glass / $68 a bottle). It was cool and crisp with notes of under ripe strawberry and fresh cut peach that lead into a delicate finish of citrus peel and candied ginger. I think the other one I tasted was the Riesling with notes of apple, apricot and pear and a dry style finish ($14 a glass / $38 a bottle). I chose the Sparkling Rose to accompany the hearty complimentary raclette they served. Lots of cheese, potatoes, mushrooms and cornichons made this quite filling. That didn't stop us from splitting a delicious seasonal salad composed of fresh spring greens, Gorgonzola crumbles, crushed hazlenuts (a popular addition in Oregon!), orchard pears, balsamic vinaigrette and a balsamic glaze drizzle. We also ordered a fantastic artisanal pizza with pears and arugula. Since it was a bit nippy, we ate our leisurely lunch inside. Later, we strolled through the tulip field, where one of my friends picked and purchased a few to take home. What a beautiful place to spend a lazy afternoon! I'm so grateful we had this marvelous adventure.

Yelp
Ordered: -Pear Salad -Pear Pizza -Supreme Pizza -Sparkling Rose, Pinos Gris, Sparking Riesling, Riesling, Pinot Noir Pro: -This is an amazing place to go to enjoy good food, hospitality, and get an amazing view of Mt. Hood -They had a set menu option which includes three generous pours, individual salad, pizza for 2 and fondue for $55!! -All the food is delicious & much of it appears sourced locally. The pear salad & pizza was stand out to us!! Ingredients appear to be high quality and made with care -Our favorite wines were the Sparkling Riesling, Pinot Gris (my favorite & I usually enjoy only reds), and Pinot Noir -EV charging available -Outdoor seating for the warmer months -Fireplace seating during the colder months Con: -In the colder months you may not see Mt. Hood due to poor visibility, but the interior of the restaurant is very cozy and festive. There are a lot of windows to see the vineyard which is beautiful in itself

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. The view here is stunning. Luckily we just happened to visit on a crisp, clear fall day, so we had stunning views of Mt. Hood for the duration of our visit, which just happened to be on my birthday. So to say that I was grateful would be a total understatement. :) I made reservations online well in advance of our preferred date and when we arrived we were pleasantly welcomed and taken right to our reserved table. It made us feel so special and cared for. Because it was our first time here, our server explained the menu options which included flights and food. For drinks, we opted for the wine and cider flight, then a single pour and then we got root beers to go! For food we started with the fondue, then had a salad and their seasonal pizza, the apple pie. Everything was delicious and the service was incredible.

Yelp
I have never felt more unwelcomed at an establishment. We came in about 45 minutes before closing. There were several open tables both inside and outside. They were not willing to seat us and said we could get a drink and sit outside. We went to the patio to take a seat and what seemed like the manager, came and told us we could not sit there, but instead to go way out in the uncovered area....during a heatwave. A a party of four came in after us and they were seated right away....inside. It was insulting the way they acted. Be better!
google avatar

Geoffrey C.

Yelp
Party of 4 had reservations inside on a nice fall day. You definitely need reservations to sit inside so plan ahead of time! If not, you'll just sit outside like most people do. Wine is really good and flight gave us everything we wanted across the board. Pizza was also delicious and complemented the wine. Before and or after your resevation, walk around! The whole area is beautiful on a clear day with Mt. Hood as your backdrop.

Yelp
This place is outstanding! It's gorgeous with a great view, food and wine/cider. I just loved this place!

Amber A.

Yelp
I came in today and it was colder outside than inside the building I can't believe they would continue business in this heat with a broken AC and force employees to withstand the heat. Do better for your employees. Food was great I feel horrible for the chefs.

Michelle E.

Yelp
I was apprehensive to come here based on some really low reviews but we had a great experience. If you know up front that the outdoor lawn area is more of a beer garden with no food service and plastic cups to chill in the lawn, then there's no surprises. We made a reservation a day before and sat on the patio and ordered food and had flights. The menu was clear and straightforward and the wait staff helped us order just what we wanted. While it was a tad confusing, they were super helpful and kind. The wait was a little slow but it was a busy weekend. We had a great pear pizza and a pepperoni pizza, both fresh and hot and tasty. The wine flight was good, it's not Oregon wine country but it was decent. We will come back in the fall when we come to pick apples and peaches. Lovely experience.
google avatar

Serena H.

Yelp
Had cider and an apple pie pizza at their tasting room. Reservations are a must (via OpenTable) if you want to sit indoors. Service was great for a busy Saturday afternoon. The tasting room also has a fireplace and looks stuck somewhere between modern and rustic. Overall a very nice visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Apparently a lot of people who left bad reviews were going to the whineeery. This is a great place if you know how it works up front. The "regulations" people whine about are perfectly reasonable. Here it is in a nutshell: outside lawn is basically a beer garden. Plastic cups, no flights, no food. Simple. If you want full winery experience of a flight and food go inside. But they have limited staff and space so there may be a wait. Now that's out of the way I enjoyed this place. Wine decent but little over priced. Best value, go for ciders. Pint glass, great cider. Ambiance 5 stars, great views, lawn, flower patch. Live jazz on weekend. Staff was nice. Adjust your expectations and there's no reason for bad reviews.

Yelp
Found this hidden gem last year and love this place! Friendly staff and great ambiance! The service was excellent, the apple cider and root beer is made in house I believe! It's sooo good! The margarita fire wood pizza was don point! Sunflower fields are mesmerizing against the blue sky and the MT Hood gazing out! My summer go to escape from the city!

Yelp
We've been coming to Mt View Orchards for about 7 years. It is our favorite place in the fruit loop. We've loved seeing them grow and expand over the years. We follow their Instagram closely and have been eyeing their pizzas. So we came up from Beaverton today specifically for their pizza. The line was long, but it didn't take too long to order. We were surprised, however, to learn you can't just buy pizza. You MUST buy alcohol or soda to have the privilege of buying a pizza. We don't day drink very often and don't really drink soda. So we had to order two root beers and toss one of them. Such a waste! We got the pear pizza, and it was really tasty, but it was overshadowed by the stupidity of having to order beverages. We won't order food from there again. It soured our experience. We'll be back for our annual cherry picking, but not for their food.
google avatar

Rishi P.

Yelp
The view is what you're going for here of mount hood. It was nice an quiet outdoors but due to heat we sat indoors. We only had drinks as it was only packaged a certain way and could get just a salad or board. Since we were having pizza later we skipped food but looked delicious. Cider sliders were big so it was tough to finish. Definitely okay with sharing this with 3-4 people. Afternoon was not as busy but they sat us at a big table with view even though it was just two of us which was nice.
google avatar

Sylvia C.

Yelp
Stop for the margarita pizza and ciders! They have wines for sale and for tasting as well. We were full from earlier in the day, but we still got a couple pizzas and some drinks - food is only for order as sets of pizza and drinks (they will work with you to figure out the best combo). We sat outside on a very hot day, but the breeze and the clear views of Mt. Hood from the covered area was worth it.

Angela S.

Yelp
Many a review complains about regulations. Seems these are just adult children who don't want to be told "no" for something they want. Excellent outdoor area. It's more like a wine and beer garden, with an indoor food and tasting area. The main emphasis on wine, cider, and beer, rather than an eatery. Expect to order a couple of drinks. The pizza appeared delicious, but I came for wine and outdoor views. Beautiful views outside. Awesome sunflowers and Vineyard chill vibes. Bring a Picnic and hang outside with your drink selection. Would recommend. When the clouds aren't around, you'd see the stunning Mt. Hood. This is exactly what I personally was looking for.
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
For a vineyard they had a strangely low number of wine options and quite a few beer options, but no matter the reason to come here is definitely the view of Mt. Hood. The wine was fine and I am sure my boyfriend liked the beer. Confusing set up with the indoor vs outdoor situation too and like the porta potties were gross. Don't come here if you want a fancy place to drink wine (read: plastic cups). Do come here if you want to just hang out with your friends and drink and look at the mountain. Definitely family friendly too with a playground.

Prathyusha S.

Yelp
We went to this place because we were in the area and had heard great things about it but it was a bit disappointing. What I loved is the amazing view of Mt. Hood in the backdrop of vineyards, lots of seating, easy parking and good pizzas (especially try their pear pizza). But we didn't make reservations and they didn't let us sit inside or outside on the patio because they said those were reserved. This was at 4.30 pm and they close at 6 so I'm not sure who had reserved for the last part of the day. We also tried to call them in advance but no one answered so we couldn't reserve. They also didn't let us choose anything from the menu inside and directed us to a small tent outside to order food and drinks with limited choices. We also didn't get to sample any wines or try their flights which I would think is the norm for a wine bar. The service was disappointing although this time of the year they are pretty busy because of great weather and longer days. I would have loved to try their extended food and drink menu but I probably will not be going back unless I have a reservation.

Yelp
Fantastic experience. Arrived early for our reservation, so we browsed their farmers market while we waited. Beautiful view of Mount Hood, framed by a blue sky and the vineyards. They offer glasses of beer and wine, as well as flights. For the non-drinkers, they had a delicious apple cider someone in our party tried. We also split the pizza, which was topped with pears, sausage, and arugula. If you don't have a reservation, don't fret! They have first-come first-serve seating in front of the covered reserved patio with the same beautiful view. However, it filled up quickly, right as they opened. Seating include folding chairs and tables that can be moved around, as well as picnic tables. Note these are spots in the sun, no shade.

Arianna S.

Yelp
The easiest way to ruin a vineyard experience is by over regulating it. They have really ridiculous rules about where you can sit if you want food and you have to order food and drinks in their preselected pairings. Nothing a la carte. The options: $55pp 3 drinks/flights, burrata board, salad, pizza $45pp 2 drinks/flights, salad, pizza $35pp 1 drink/flight, pizza $25 kids deal, 2 drinks, cheese or pepperoni pizza If you don't drink alcohol, probably don't come here. Only NA options are root beer, cream soda, apple cider. They'll let that be one of your required drinks, but you're way overpaying for it. This place seems totally mismanaged. They have one of the best views of the mountain, they should be making a killing, but everything feels kinda cheap. Plastic mismatched seating, plastic cups, mismatched patio covers. The salad was good and the peach pizza was really delicious. Wine was kinda meh, cider was also nothing special. The "pineapple" cider had no pineapple flavor at all. It's disappointing. I feel like their location has so much potential, but it needs a complete overhaul.

Katrina R.

Yelp
Delicious food, good wine, and amazing views. We easily made a reservation on Open Table and had great service. Family-friendly on the patio, as we brought a 3-yr old and a 5-yr old. It's a mom and pop feel, very chill. We also loved cherry-picking in the adjacent orchard. A beautiful afternoon.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
If you're looking for cute date spot, this is it! They have different sets you can pick from - starts off with one tasting and one seasonal food pairing and it goes to 3 food pairings with 3 tastings (you can also swap out one of the tastings for a full sized drink). I got the Grateful Feast Tasting Experience, which was the 3 tastings + 3 food pairings. The pairings we got: pear salad, cheese fondue with garlic bread, pear and apple & pizza.
google avatar

Joe K.

Yelp
The cider is delicious. The beer is great. The food is delightful. The view of the orchards and vineyards is great. But when the clouds clear be prepared to be amazed.
google avatar

Jesse G.

Yelp
This place is totally lovely. We came on a rainy cloudy day and there wasn't a view of the mountain, but it was still peaceful and beautiful. We got a sampler of cider and a piece of pizza and sat in one of the tables outside under the covered porch (we didn't have a reservation so had a bit less of a selection of where to sit). The ciders were well-made and interesting, and the pizza was absolutely delicious. Both balanced each other out. We also got some ciders to go and can't wait to try them. The grounds had a pick your own dahlia and pick your own pumpkin patch and a sunflower patch on the way out. It was peaceful and calming to walk around. I'd definitely recommend dropping by!
google avatar

Kerrie D.

Yelp
An absolutely STUNNING location with lovely outdoor seating on faux fur covered benches, fresh flowers and fireplaces/pits. We sampled a wine and a cider flight and ordered a large vegetable pizza for the table. We had a wonderful time eating, drinking and playing a group table game with Mt Hood right in our backyard! Staff was amazing and attentive, while we were there, one of the owners was stopping in at tables thanking patrons for stopping by. and welcoming them to the vineyard.

Yelp
Stunning views, delicious wine and hard cider, with a menu of unique pizza offerings makes Grateful Vineyards a standout in an area with so many wonderful vineyards and orchards. Did I mention the million dollar view? Located in Parkdale, this vineyard has unobstructed views of grand Mt. Hood standing proud and snow capped. Definitely the money shot! I'm so grateful (cheap pun I know) to the women who works at Plenty in Hood River for recommending this vineyard. frequently I take the scenic drive to Mt. Hood from Portland. Over the years I have established favorite places so I tend to visit and revisit them over and over again. seeking to find new treasures, I asked if she knew of vineyards with exceptional views of Mt. Hood. Her recommendation for Grateful Vineyards was spot on! Sitting out back, enjoying good conversation and a delicious hard cider, with spectacular views of Mt. Hood, an image so picturesque, well, it just doesn't get any better! Located near the lavendar farms and so many apple and pear orchards, Grateful Vineyards is the perfect place to end your day, to sit, relax, and breath in the beauty of this enchanted area in the Pacific Northwest.

Yelp
OWNER - Genuinely curious what the deal is with your DMV level rules and regulations for dining and drinking. Literally TSA level customer service to spend almost 80 dollars after tip for two glasses of wine in PLASTIC CUPS and a small floppy pizza. We came with our dog to grab a pizza and enjoy some wine with a view. The view is beautiful. Asked to be seated on the patio and were asked if we had reservations. I look outside and it's maybe no lie 20-30% full. I say "no is that necessary to sit outside??" She said yes for the covered patio portion. I asked if we can sit outside of that covered area (covered area by the way was maybe 30-40% full and NO ONE was sitting outside of that area which takes up most of the outdoor seating!) She said you can't get food in the non covered area. Why??? She mentions we can sit inside but no dogs allowed. Sweet thanks!!!I ask if we can take the pizza to go since we drove from Portland to eat here. She says no to go orders. AWESOME THANKS SO MUCH!! I'm like wtf is going on here. I ask another lady who worked there assuming this can't be right. She looks around like we're making a narcos deal and says she'll make an exception that we can eat food literally 15 yards from the covered area where people are eating. Mind you we came here before and ate in this exact non covered area and she says on Saturday and Sunday it's fine. So then why are you hassling me on a Friday. Why so many rules. YALL NEED TO WORK ON YOUR SERVICE. Never been so annoyed and been in more of a who's on first situation at a business.

Yelp
What a disappointment. We were excited to stop here as it seemed like a great fit for a light lunch and drinks with a view. But upon walking in to less then pleasant staff, I was already turned off before even being seated. Lukewarm reception, despite not even being busy, and their offerings are overpriced and restrictive. They do NOT sell any food, other than their pizza pies that are served only when you order a Tasting Menu. $30/per person or more, depending on which tasting you do - with 1 Pizza Pie for every 2 people. Their wines were ok. Their pizza was blah. Super salty, soggy from the toppings. With so many beautiful wineries, cideries, farms and eateries in the area - many also with great views - opt elsewhere and don't waste your time and money on this one.

Yelp
* I have a lot of favorite pizzas - first and foremost the Italian DOC style from Naples, but also Chicago, Detroit, New Haven, even a great chick pea crust pizza as is the specialty in Tuscany. * Grateful Vineyard served us perhaps the best pizzas I've ever had (I have not been to Naples yet!) on a nice, sunny, Sunday afternoon visit in Hood River, OR, on the Fruit Loop (lhttps://www.hoodriverfruitloop.com/). * I'll try to remember the 2 styles: 1) Pear, arugula, balsamic, bacon. 2) Pepperoni, mama lil's peppers, mushrooms, parmigiano. * You can't taste it, but in the pic, you can see the thin crust, the burnt bubbles - part of the Napoli DOC and result of a 900 degree F oven - and generously and perfectly distributed toppings. * We both had a 4 wine sampler - white/Riesling, sparkling/Spumante, rose, and red/Pinot Noir. * The service was so friendly, relatively quick, and it was not crowded at all. * The only thing to note - the 3 tier, per-person charge "set menu" format is IMPOSSIBLE to understand - your server will have to explain it, and still, you should just tell them EXACTLY what you want in terms of food and drink, and let them sort out how to charge you for it. * This was a 5 star experience for sure - come for the wine AND the pizza!!!

Larry G.

Yelp
Outstanding experience this past weekend at Grateful Vineyard. Pleasant and efficient service. Unbelievable views. Had the Orchard board and a Pear pizza. Both were excellent. Afterwards took some photos of the mountain through the Sunflower fields. Beautiful day.

Yelp
We we went in to enjoy a pizza and wine flight on our fruit loop tour but we were told that we needed reservations maybe 20 people in the whole place and she let us know that we can go out to the little trailer outside to get the same drinks and food. I would pass on this place if you are doing the fruit loop tour.

Shirin Z.

Yelp
This use to be my favorite place of all time but all the regulations have completely ruined this place. Inside and out. I would not recommend this place in a million years. If you had asked me this before this Summer when they had normal policies I would have recommended this place, but I will be taking them off of all my blogs. Regardless of all the money spent on the wedding and catering, I will now no longer support Grateful Vineyard and recommend others do the same. Their new policies are now ridiculous and not accommodating.

Yelp
After a good hike, my body needs a little food and some drinks, and found this winery at the perfect location! Flight came with Riesling, Pino Grigio, Pino Rose and Pino Nor. Red is always my go to drink, but their Pino Grigio was very refreshing and served very well with think crust Pizza. We tried Pear & blue cheese with caramelized onion and crispy bacon. Also egg, arugula and some veggies. Egg comes from local firm and they baked pizza onsite, order to be made, so we ate them right after coming from the oven, was so good! And the view... imagine sitting back at your back yard, sipping a couple of glasses of wine and viewing the magnificent Mr. Hood. Breath taking and also very relaxing under afternoon sunlit. I would do another hike just to give me an excuse to come back here!

Yelp
Lovely vinery with Mt Hood in the backdrop. Stopped by (with no reservations) during my recent trip to Hood River and this vinery is gorgeous! What amazing views of Mt Hood with the vineyards all around you. We tried their rose and it was delicious! They have indoor and outdoor seating. For the outdoor seating as well they have some covered seating and some open air picnic table seating. We wanted to enjoy the view so chose the outdoor picnic tables. Staff was polite and we had no wait time and were asked to pick whatever table we preferred. They also have a sunflower patch right next to this vineyard. Stunning location. Highly recommend if in the area to take in the views and drink some wine.

Yelp
Amazingly beautifully set vineyard with a stunning view of Mt. Hood. It's a little off the beaten path but it is WORTH IT. There wasn't any available fruit on the trees, but all of the blossoms in bloom made up for it. Very comfortable outdoor seating options either under a tent or right outside looking at the mountain in the distance. We got both the wine and cider flights (the blackberry cider is definitely a winner along with the reserve Pinot Noir) and a veggie pizza to share. The pizza was nice, plenty of toppings with a slightly charred crust. A beautiful place in a beautiful setting, who could ask for more? One of the owners was walking around and checking in on everyone as well, really sweet guy. Its a little distance from Portland, but I've heard there's a cherry stout on tap that I may have to go back and try.
google avatar

Traci M.

Yelp
If you want a more informal vineyard to visit this is a good one. I would say the best bang for your buck is the wine bottle with the full pizza deal. I was with two other people and the price comparison for a flight vs the bottle option was a no brainer. The weather was perfect and loved the flower gardens they had. The pizza was pretty decent and stone fire it seemed like. Try to do the mt hood fruit loop every so often, so if you like to check out different places everytime you go to this area it's worth checking out. It also can get very busy here so maybe worth making a reservation if you want to sit inside/have a more formal atmosphere

Yelp
dont come for the food. Beautiful environment, amazing setting, but the worse gluten-free pizza on the planet! These days gluten-free does not have to be disgusting, tasteless and a disappointment . the crust was like a hippie granola biscuit. What a complete waste of money for a pizza that was virtually inedible. we ate the smattering of sauce and pepperonis off the top. hardly any cheese - they skimped on that. The staff brazenly and outwardly asks for tips and I am finding that trend more and more unfavorable. Do your job, your job is to get me a beer, you did not provide any special services to me or anyone else - so get over it. you poured a beer in aplastic cup and handed it to me. Over priced and mediocre food at best but the setting is really quite stunning.

Yelp
Nice setting with ridiculous rules. This vineyard/cidery/brewery experience is a nice laid back environment with excellent views of Mt Hood. The pizza was pretty good and the beer was mediocre but passable. Service left something to be desired There are 2 service areas: the tasting room with adjacent reservation only patio or the lawn where there are shaded tables. If you have a reservation, you can get a sampling of foods with your wine tasting. If you don't have a reservation and sit in the walkup area, you are limited to beer and cider and can only order pizzas (no salad or charcuterie), and you HAVE to order 2 drinks in order to receive the ability to buy a pizza (??). Firstly, the kid manning the drink cart outside clearly had no interest in doing anything beyond the bare minimum that his position required. We had members of our group who are gluten free so I then inquired inside the half empty tasting room about ordering a salad. Of the two teens I spoke to inside, neither could tell me why this was. Ok, fine, not their policy and I'm sure the owners have their reasons. But here's the thing: I have worked in food service. There are often rules that stipulate purchase of food to get alcohol or the like. But never have I been required to buy alcohol in order to get food and I can see absolutely no reason other than trying to push tasting room sales to have such a limited menu for walk-ups. The person I asked about it simply said that there was no way they could accommodate the sale of a salad to someone without a reservation. To add injury to insult, come to find out that the same pizzas ordered in the reservation area come with additional toppings which is just a wild decision to me. So if you order the pear pizza inside it comes with arugula and bacon but outside you just get cheese pears and balsamic. Like, what reason do you have to make the fare visibly different to the people without reservations? Incredibly asinine in my opinion. This unfortunately soured me on the rest of the experience. I think as long as you go into the experience knowing what to expect you'll have a fine time; I was just annoyed and disappointed with their seemingly nonsensical rules. I probably wouldn't recommend it with other options in the area.

Yelp
Will be our go to stop in Hood River area from now on. Beautiful weekend in September. Great staff and outdoor scenic views in the orchards and vineyards. Pizza, salad and 2 drink combo is a great deal! So much to do at Grateful Vineyard so make sure you allow a couple hours for a visit.

Yelp
Have now made the trip to this picturesque estate on two separate occasions and I am beyond impressed! Friendly, knowledgeable service, fresh inventive pizza, delectable offerings of wine and cider and million dollar view to too it off! Friends planned a minnie celebration for my 30th birthday and we had the most wonderful servers. Katrina especially completely made my evening in a moment that I embarrassed myself a little and made my group of friends a wonderful experience after months apart. This vineyard takes all covid precautions, is clean and gives groups ample space from other guests. Great for families or a trip out with friends , or even a romantic date. If you live farther out like myself, make sure to plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the drive as you ride to this picturesque location. By far my favorite winery and cannot wait for my next visit!

Yelp
I'm so sad about the decline of this place. We discovered it before Covid, made the drive fairly often from the Portland area and LOVED it...great pizza, decent Pinot Noir and a wonderful relaxed setting with a fabulous view. Sadly, it has a very negative vibe about it now with a way overpriced pairing menu. Not sure if they got too big for their britches or what but I really miss what they used to be a few years back.

Yelp
Came here with three girlfriends at the end of July (yes, this review is belated, don't you know that time means nothing these days) at the start of a weekend getaway. What a perfect meal to get the weekend off right! We had a reservation right as they opened, and I was so glad we did as there was quite the queue when we arrived. We were promptly seated at a table outside with the most gorgeous view of the vineyards and Mt Hood. Truly, the views here are worth the price of admission alone. However, the food & drink offerings don't disappoint. We each had a wine flight, the cost of which could be applied to a bottle to take home. The wines were delightful, so it was an easy decision to opt for a 'free' tasting and pick up a bottle to go. (I opted for the riesling - smooth, honey-scented, and not too sweet - for my mom.) We also ordered three pizzas, as we were ravenous and our server told us that three pizzas would not be too much food for four people. Spoiler alert - it was. Still, we weren't mad about taking essentially a whole pizza with us as leftovers and having it to snack on later. The pizzas were a thin-crust Neapolitan style, but a little on the oily side. The margherita was really tasty, but the star of the show was their seasonal pie with tart cherries, which was out of this world. We felt very safe there - masks were required inside, and the tables were well-spaced outside with plenty of room. My one complaint/recommendation would be to please, please get some umbrellas for the outdoor seating! It was around 90 degrees when we visited, and the sun directly overhead made us yearn for shade. The tables and chairs are metal, and metal heats up quickly, and, well... we would have gladly stayed for another glass of wine with our meal if we could have sheltered under an umbrella. If they make this change for next season I'll be a very happy camper.

Yelp
This place was beautiful. We had a great overall experience. A few negatives then I'll get the outstanding positives. 1. We had a reservation for right when they opened. Even though all the tables were open- we were sat over on the edge- next to the bussing station and the loud open kitchen door. At any pizza joint that wouldn't have bugged me- but we had our hearts set on a romantic experience and hearing the cooks conversations wasn't on our list! 2. We were sad to learn that the wine served wasn't grown on location - but from a neighboring vineyard. (They plan to sell their own wine, but this location is new to wine I think I remember her saying!) 3. The wait staff answered our questions about wine pretty shortly and didn't give us much info/ knowledge about the wine. It wasn't a typical vineyard experience. More like a restaurant on a vineyard. 4. This is no ones fault- but it was such a cloudy day we couldn't see Mt. Hood at all GREAT THINGS: 1. Pizza was incredible. I loved the seasonal pizza with some fig/ balsamic drizzle, peaches, and tons of other stuff. It was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Whatever their seasonal pizza is- try it. It's probably amazing! 2. Wine: we did a flight to try their four options- and then ended up getting glasses of Pinot noir. All 4 were great- the rose and Pinot noir were exceptional. 3. Wait staff was very kind. We asked to be moved 1/2 way through the meal to get away from the loud kitchen, and they obliged- and didn't make us feel bad for asking. 4. The manager gave us some stickers and business cards after having a great conversation with us about Portland and Bend. 5. THE PROPERTY: truly, a highlight of our trip out to Oregon. The dahlias were in FULL bloom in late September. The orchard was so fun to walk through- and we got to meet Carlos the steer- and feed him pears from the ground. This would be so sweet with kids! 6. Price: great price for what you get. We will be back If we're ever in town.

Yelp
We enjoyed our first visit to Grateful Vineyard today. It was a beautiful clear day with great views of Mt Hood. I don't drink much so they were kind enough to take a discount on my ticket. The pizza and salad was delicious! Will come back in summer with the doggies!

Yelp
Staff was rude and not attentive. Per person only option on set items is not good for all parties. No exceptions. What about people who chose not to drink. ...... too many good wineries in the area to be treated so poorly. After we were left alone while staff were chatting at bar with each other we left. One glanced as we got up and started chatting again. Totally didn't care people were leaving. It's one thing to get an award........ it's another to be worthy of it long term. Please note it was not busy.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous. Amazing view of Mt Hood. We were lucky to visit on a clear sunny day in April. We had the food pairing + beverages, and we were very pleased. The menu offers one salad, a fondue course to share, and a pizza paired with 3 drinks. They were able to accommodate my wheat restrictions. I felt comfortable asking questions about the preparation, and I the staff was very open and honest. They offer a gluten-free crust that tastes delicious, one of the best ones I've had. It was very nice to have so many options on the drink choice as well. It was a very pleasant experience, and I am definitely looking forward to being back.

Yelp
We made a reservation for our family of four as we had heard the pizza was great. Our children were not welcomed (they could sit at a picnic table in the wind and rain). Other families who were at Mt. Hood Orchards also wanted to enjoy the pizza and drinks, but this establishment is really only for adults. I wish they had been more clear about that on their website before we drove all the way out there.

Yelp
The Grateful Vineyard is such a beautiful spot for wine tasting and making memories. :) The pizza is so delicious, and the view of Mt. Hood is unbelievable. I'd suggest outdoor seating if the weather allows for it!
